Chapter 2: We Are Family

"I mean, c'mon. You can't just break into our apartment in the middle of the night and expect me to hit the road with you," said Sam.

Sam and his brother, Dean, had just left Sam's apartment and were now walking down the stairs of his apartment building.

"You're not hearing me, Sammy. Dad's missing and I need your help finding him," replied Dean.

"He's always missing and he's always fine."

Dean stopped at the step landing and looked at his younger sibling.

"Are you going to come with me or not?" he asked, raising his eyebrows as he stared into Sam's face.

"I'm not," replied Sam.

Dean sighed heavily and rolled his head back once before looking at his younger sibling once more.

"And why not?"

"Because I swore that I was done hunting for good," answered Sam.

"Well, it wasn't easy, but it wasn't that bad," replied Dean, rolling his eyes.

"Oh, yeah? When I told Dad that I was scared of the thing in my closet, he gave me a .45!"

Sam raised his eyebrows.

"Well, what was he supposed to do?" asked Dean.

"I was nine years old!" yelled Sam.

Dean turned around and headed outside, pushing open the door. Sam followed after him.

"Do you honestly think that Mom would've wanted this for us?" asked Sam.

Dean simply ignored Sam's question. Sam sighed and tried once more.

"Dean, we were raised like warriors."

They walked to Dean's car, Dean remaining silent until they had reached his driver's side door. He sighed heavily.

"I can't do this alone."

"Yes, you can."

"Alright, you're right. I can, but I really don't want to do this alone."

Dean looked at Sam, his younger sibling. After a few moments of awkward silence, Sam finally sighed, cursing under his breath.

"Well, what was he hunting?"

Dean smirked triumphantly and walked Sam over to the trunk of his beloved Impala. Dean unlocked it and opened it up all the way, handing Sam a manila folder.

"Here."

Sam began to look over the folder, but then he paused.

"Wait. Why did you come get me and not Alex?" he asked.

Dean sighed heavily.

"After you left all those years ago, she felt utterly betrayed. She was mad at Dad and me for not stopping you from leaving. One night, we left for a job and when we came back home a couple of days later, she was gone. No note, nothin'. I haven't seen her since. I've tried talking to her and sometimes she replies to my texts, but for the most part, we don't really talk."

Sam sighed and ran a hand over his scruffy face.

"Alright, I'll help. But first, let's go get Alex and then we'll all find Dad."

Sam shut the trunk closed and climbed into the passenger seat while his brother drove.

"Alex, you're so beautiful."

Alex sighed as Jason, some kid from the club that she had gone to last week, pulled her blouse up over her head and then began kissing down her neck.

"Thanks," she replied, trying to get into the make-out session and feel any sort of feelings.

She pulled his head up from her neck to kiss him on his wet, pink lips when suddenly, there was a pounding on her front door.

"What the hell is that?"

She pushed Jason off of her, causing him to fall to the floor, and she went over to look through the peephole located in her front door. She looked out of the peephole and standing outside of her door were two people that she never expected to see ever again in her life.

"What the fuck?"

She quickly grabbed her shirt from off of her floor, threw it on, and then turned to face a very confused Jason.

"Look. Unless you want to die, you should probably go out through the fire escape like, right now."

Jason's eyes widened, but he obliged without any questions and climbed out through the large window in Alex's bedroom. She shut the window and then opened her front door.

"Hey, sis. It's been a really long time."

Dean entered her apartment first followed by Sam.

"What do you want?" she asked, her arms crossed over her chest.

"Help. Dad's been gone for three weeks on a hunting trip," answered Dean.

"Well, I don't want to help either one of you."

She looked over at Sam, her eyes filling up with tears immediately as she took in her twin brother.

"You've gotten taller."

Sam chuckled and watched as the tears began to fall from her eyes.

"I'm so sorry," whispered Sam, his own eyes filled with pain as he took in his sister.

"How could you just leave us? Leave me?" whispered Alex.

Sam looked at her sadly.

"I'm here now. I'll make it up to you, I swear. Please just help us."

He pulled her into his arms for a hug and she returned it hesitantly, sighing as she inhaled his scent. Sam brushed back her hair gently and then he frowned.

"What the hell is that?"

Sam pulled Alex's hair back even more to inspect her neck, which was covered in hickeys.

"Um, they're burn marks from my straightener?"

Alex bit her lip and looked at her brothers, who looked livid. She rolled her eyes.

"Alright, fine. They're hickeys."

"I'm gonna kill whoever gave that to you," said Dean.

"Dude, he marked her up pretty damn good," commented Sam.

Alex glared at him and Sam looked down at the floor with his hands in his pockets.

"Dean, you can kill him later. Now, let's go find Dad."

Alex grabbed a duffel bag from her closet and haphazardly threw some clothes into it. She then walked over to the front door where her brothers were waiting.

"Glad to have you back, Lex," said Dean, calling his sister by the old childhood nickname he had for her.

He threw his arm over Alex's shoulders and the three siblings headed downstairs toward the car.
