Today, we were all watching over the other Rating games that took place. The matches were interesting to say the least, Sairoarg Bael showed considerable strength and really seemed to be the only team we may lose against. There was his pawn, a nobody who took 7 pawns. When I say nobody, I don't mean the same as a pompous bastard talking about a commoner, I mean an actual nobody. There is no data on him at all and his robe was designed in such a way that a shadow was cast completely across his face, he was an anomaly and Sairoarg wanted to keep it that way. Then there was Sairoarg himself, a no nonsense king. If it was acceptable and strategy wasn't too big a part, he seemed like the type of guy to sweep the enemy and actually succeed. He was a dangerous man, a man who could ignite my instincts.
Then there was Diodora Astaroth which has been a common name across our group the past few weeks. He has shown his interest in Asia and according to Koneko, he held an eerie smile while he did so. There is also the Khaos Brigade rumour from Azazel which after watching his Rating Game against Seekvaira Agares I could see it was true, he was dangerous like Sairoarg but not actually himself. Diodora seemed like a pawn to either get at us the Youth Devils or his brother and Satan, Ajuka Beelzebub who used to be Ajuka Astaroth. The snakes from Ophis allowed him to completely overwhelm Seekvaira when he shouldn't have been able to.
Then just as Azazel was telling us that Diodora was our next opponent in the Rating Game, he arrived. His dark blue magic circle flashed inside the room and his body appeared a second later with the eerie smile Koneko described to me weeks before.
"It is I, Diodora Astaroth, and I have come to see Asia."
As his body came through into the room something else shone and caught my attention. It was a light blue and when I looked towards it, I saw a blue crystal in the shape of a tear and I felt somewhat nostalgic as I took it all in.
I could feel my body being drawn towards Diodora but my hands were shaking at the same time, hell my whole body was currently shaking. There was something about it that was familiar to me, it also smelt familiar, familiar to my own even.
"Gin-kun? What's wrong?"
I turned to look at Rias who had called out to me and my mouth hung open slightly, no words were coming out. I lifted my hand slowly and pointed at Diodora who pointed at himself until he followed my gaze and lifted up the necklace to be seen by everyone.
"W...Where did you get it?"
"My father took it when he completed a job."
Completed a job?
"C-Could I see it?"
He nodded twice keeping the same eerie smile. He lifted the necklace away from around his neck and offered it to me, a pain shot through my head as I saw it close up and when I took it from him I felt the strength in my legs completely disappear and images started to flood into my mind. Images of a silver haired woman and a black haired man who both looked Japanese. The woman had hazel eyes and the man had brown eyes.
My eyes widened as two names came into my head and I could feel the tears running down my cheeks. The people in the images was Tsukiyomi Kara and Tsukiyomi Kazama.
"Haha-ue..."
"Is that yours?"
A voice broke me out of my musing and I looked round the room feeling slightly faint, when I looked at Diodora he tilted his head like he was reiterating the question.
"Ye-yes, it was my mother's. Can I have it?"
"I doubt you'd give it back to me right now. How about we use that as an extra for Asia, hmm?"
Once he asked it we both turned towards Rias looking hopeful, my own more hopeful than Diodora's and was amplified by the small tears that were still rolling down. I could see pain in Rias' eyes, she couldn't do it but she wanted to get the necklace back for me. She was conflicted because Asia was like a sister to her and she wanted to get on my good side, and from the sight of me now it would go a long way for her. I can agree myself that it would go a long way if she could, I would be in her debt for it.
"I'm sorry Diodora but I will never trade Asia, she is like a sister to me. Is there any other way to get the necklace back for Gin-kun?"
"Then there is no deal. Give me the-"
A gust of wind passed by everyone, we all turned and saw Azazel holding a Light spear to Diodora's neck and chest. Azazel's expression was a serious one and one I only saw once before during the peace treaty. He is normally cheery no matter what but now he was serious, maybe even angry.
"I think you should change your mind Astaroth. I am willing to kill you to get the necklace back for Gin-kun, the treaty be damned."
Diodora's smile evaporated at the stinging feeling of the light spears against his body. He then breathed a heavy sigh.
"Fine .. keep it but if you lose in the Rating Game against me then i'll take it back and Asia along with it."
Diodora then disappeared away in the same dark blue magic circle that he appeared in the room with. I felt a smile come to my face seeing that he had left, there was no way I was going to let this go, i'd die before it leaves my grasp. I undid the clasp on the chain before guiding it to the back of my neck and redid the clasp allowing the light blue crystal to rest upon my chest like it did my mother's in the past.
"Azazel … Thank you, thank you so much."
"It's alright kiddo. I couldn't let something like that go, i'm sorry I couldn't find anything about them."
"That's ok Azazel, i'm thankful that you took time away from your work to look for me even if at times it was for you to escape from paperwork."
I let out a small wry chuckle straight after making Azazel's smile turned crooked as he looked back at me. He then turned towards Rias.
"Rias-chan, would you be able to ask your Lord Gremory to speak to Lord Astaroth? To see if there is anything else of Gin's parents."
"Of course, i'll do it right now. Hopefully, Tou-sama is free."
Rias then went and did so leaving the rest of us to our own devices. I moved myself to the corner of the room and I was followed by Azazel, who seemed to have a question.
"What is it Azazel?"
"Well … You know about the machine I made to create photos of people's memories. If you want any done then tell me, I fixed the straining problem a month or so back."
I liked the sound of that, a memory is nice but you can see it all in front of you with a photo. It's also easier to tell others about, if it's something grand then they are more likely to believe you with a photo rather than just words. I nodded to him with a smile.
"Yeah, i'll tell you when I found some."
With the necklace staying around my neck, I took the tear in my cupped hands and allowed my hands to be coated in chakra and react with th tear as only mine could. I could feel the knowledge of my mother come through intertwining with my own along with her presence.
I'm unsure if it's the same with all Nekoshou but my family has always passed a tear down created by the parent to their child. This tear is one of their own tears which has been crystallized after being basked in chakra from a silent forest at midnight. We also incorporate a small portion of our mind into it, it's for sentimental moments really. It's for those times when you feel alone or scared and only your parents voice can make you feel comfortable and not afraid any more. It's a very precious item to my family and i'll be creating one for each of my children.
Dozens of faint pictures appeared in front of me surrounding a single video that showed me as a toddler with short silver hair barely being able to walk. Everyone in the room could hear the voices of my mother and father in the video. I could feel my heart being tugged as either of them uttered a word, a sense of want filled my body. Seeing them like this made me want to see them in front of me and hug them, live together, eat together, laugh together.
Since the video had started, the room went quiet to let me listen. The only outside voice was Rias' talking to her father but it was faint and from the signatures around me she had moved away from where she was originally behind her desk.
The sound of their voices was nostalgic, I couldn't even remember anything about them until seeing their faces. My features being the same as my father's with hair identical to my mother's. They sacrificed themselves for me and I was able to stay alive, I was lucky enough to find the tear and possibly even more. They are the voices and faces of two people I will never forget again.
…
The next day I found myself in the Underworld with Rias and Lord Gremory alone in a carriage as we were heading towards the Astaroth territory. The carriage was filled with silence, they had both tried to strike up a conversation but it fell shortly after it began as I was in no mood to talk. I was too focused on what else the Astaroth's took from my parents.
We were invited inside quickly where Rias and I split off from Lord Gremory and Lord Astaroth, as we were taken away by the head butler. He took us through the whole castle to a single wooden door which led to the basement of the castle. He opened the door for us and the candles on the wall lit up one by one illuminating the basement. The butler then led us down the narrow stairs into the large basement that was filled with expensive looking trinkets and weapons.
The musky smell of unpolished metal filled my nostrils but it was an odd feeling as the room was completely void of dust, I couldn't see any at all. Off to the side was dull looking swords that belonged to warriors in the past, tiaras that had lost their shine and jewels that were scuffed or chipped from lack of care. Everything had their own individual scent but there was something, possible a few that held the same scent as my necklace.
I placed my palm against the cold stone floor and channelled the chakra within the basement causing every single item in the room to become covered in a thick white light that ran along the edges. Everything became separated by their outlines passing through every objects.
"Rias, if anything here belongs to me then it will have a thicker white outline."
I turned to look at her when I finished and she nodded to me with a determined expression. If she had long sleeves she would have rolled them up by now.
We then got to work scouring the basement that was full of random trinkets.
We picked through the numerous jewels and necklaces finding a number of the same thing. They would be the spoils of war, things they have taken from their fallen opponents or thing they have collected from their subordinates on the battlefield. The weapons and armour around the room support that, silver chunks of metal still holding onto their enchantments from hundreds of years ago. Energy signatures fading away from them.
As I picked my way through the piles of stuff, I came across a book on Nekoshou. A book on Nekoshou that rightfully belongs to me and inside was a lock of silver fur and a picture of a silver sword behind a glitzy shield up on a wall. Those two weapons weren't here in this room but they were here in the castle, it was a fleeting vision but I saw it on my way here. It was atop the doorway that led onto this wing of the castle. It was something that I will be taking back with me no matter what, I will tell him of his son's traitorous ways if I have to.
I put the book on the table by the butler to allow him to check it off the list of items and went back to look for other things, as I did so Rias came to me with a bracelet. It was blue in colour and from the outline it was definitely something of mine belonging to my mother. I slowly took it from her hands and stared at it in wonder. A bracelet made out of pure Lapis Lazuli with my mother's chakra in constant flow inside it. I turned back to the table and placed it down on top of the book.
Looking to the room again, I watched as the outlines of each item stayed thick meaning there was still something of mine here in this very room but what, I was soon to find out. We both then went back to looking for whatever remained.
The last item here that was mine was found by Rias who had looked quite happy with herself for doing so. It was a small jewellery box that was locked through magic and something that hadn't been opened in a long time. Locked through the use of Senjutsuu, I applied my own to it making a light click sound reverberate through the room and the lid popped itself open. Inside the box was a key and two rings, one for a women with a diamond on top and another for a man that was a simple band made out of polished cobalt. They were wedding rings and from the feeling I got, they were my parents.
The key however was something for me personally, it was for me when I became of age to fully take it in. It's a chakra key, one that unlocked my family's spirit and dramatically enhanced our sense of smell and touch. Everything had a distinct feel and scent, this was to help me differentiate things that other people couldn't even other Nekoshou. Whether it had been useful in recent years I don't know and I don't know whether it will be either.
I closed the lid back on the box and took it over to the butler who jotted it down too. I picked up the bracelet in my free hand and teleported them both to my dimension pocket while leaving the book out. I took it into my hands and we left the room heading back towards the main hall. As we left the basement I turned to look at Rias who looked at me cheerfully, I had to thank her. Holding the book down next to my left side, I placed my right hand onto her left cheek and I kissed her on the lips, quickly.
When I pulled back from her, she was surprised with dark red cheeks.
"Thank you for this. I owe you."
I gave her a slight smile before turning round to the butler and start to be led through the halls.
…
As we came back into the main hall, Lord Gremory and Astaroth was already there waiting for us. When we arrived Lord Gremory saw Rias' embarrassed expression and smiled lightly. Lord Astaroth then turned to me.
"Did you find everything of yours, Tsukiyomi-dono?"
"There is just one thing left, Lord Astaroth."
I took the picture from the book and showed it to him.
"The sword and shield is my fathers, I would like that back as well."
"Of course, you may take that as well. I am sorry for the deaths of your parents, if you had become a devil much sooner then me and my men would have spared them."
I could only nod at his words, they were fake and very much so at that. He couldn't care less and he only said it to look like a good guy in front of Rias and Lord Gremory. The word 'Liar' started to repeat itself in my mind as the butler who led us through the castle gave me the sword and shield. I took the shield in my left hand and looked at the slightly bland sword that was locked into place behind the handle of the shield. It needed a good polish.
I then sharply bowed my head to show a sign of respect but not a full one and then turned towards the door of the mansion so I could let myself vent. The two maids standing by the large doors opened them for me and I passed by without acknowledging them. With the air of the underworld now flowing against me my body then relaxed slightly as one word was released from my mouth.
"Liar."
It feels like a while since i wrote this big a chapter for this story ... ah well.
A big step forward for Rias in the eyes of Gin right there. Even though Azazel had given Rias the idea, she didn't wait a second to do so.
Even with Gin still disliking the devils, he is coming out of it, day by day for certain individuals and Rias is doing her best for that to happen as quickly as possible.
The sword and shield is merely memorabilia of his father and won't be used at all.
That means there was three things in total from his mother and two things from his father, with one thing from both of them.
I'll see ya all next time, Ciao-nya.
