"Cogsworth!" Belle shouted, "Where are you?"
"Coming!" she heard him say from far away. Belle decided to stay near the library doors since that's where she was going. She had to make sure that Cogsworth knew about Sagittarius, Adam's cousin, coming here in nine to ten days. She wondered how she could do this all on her own.
"I can't do this." Belle whispered to herself as she banged her head against the library door.
"You're going to hurt yourself, dearie!" Belle lifted her head and looked to her left to see Mrs. Potts holding some small towels.
"Mrs. Potts," Belle said as she stood up, "how long have you been standing there?"
"Long enough to see you hitting your head on the door." Mrs. Potts answered, "I haven't seen you do something like that, is there a problem?" Belle sighed and leaned against the library doors. She was about to say something until Cogsworth came around the corner, sweating in a panic.
"Sorry Mademoiselle," Cogsworth said, wiping his forehead, "What's the problem?"
"Remember the letter you gave me and asked me to give it to Adam?"
"Yes ma'am." Cogsworth said as he swallowed his nervousness. "What was it about?"
"Well, it turns out that it was a letter from his cousin." Belle said.
"Sagittarius?" Mrs. Potts asked, "Oh my goodness, how long has it been since we've heard from him?"
"Twelve long years," Cogsworth answered, "We haven't seen him since the master ran away from his castle and shouted at him that he never wanted to see him again."
"Well, believe it or not," Belle added, "Adam sent him a letter last night and the letter he got this morning was from Sagittarius, saying that nothing could express how happy he was receiving Adam's letter. Sagittarius also said that he'll be here in nine to ten days."
"WHAT?" Cogsworth almost shrieked, "Sagittarius? Here? In nine days? how are we going to prepare ourselves?"
"Cogsworth, calm down," Belle said, "we have plenty of time get everyone together and make sure that everything in the castle is in tip-top shape for Adam's cousin."
"Wait, speaking of the master, where is he?" Mrs. Potts asked, Belle was a little worried. She hadn't thought about how to explain this predicament, she didn't like to lie to the servants, but she really didn't have a choice.
"Well...he's got a nasty head cold." Belle lied, it was the only thing she could think of, "Adam doesn't want to come out and let the servants catch it. He also doesn't want to disturbed by anyone, if there are any questions that need to be answered by him, they have to tell me and I'll send it up to him. Adam also asked me to bring some books up to his room so he can brush up on his studies while he's resting."
"Oh brother, of all the times for him to be sick!" Cogsworth said in a worried fluster, but before he actually got worse, Mrs. Potts grabbed his ears and said in a calmly matter;
"Cogsworth, let him rest, he can't help it that he got sick. Besides, I think Belle will do a fine job taking care of other matters here in the castle and if the master doesn't want to be disturbed, then we won't disturb him, right Cogsworth?" Mrs. Potts pinched his ears tighter until he said;
"Yes, of course, We better get started." Mrs. Potts finally released his ears when he said that. When Cogsworth felt relief, he went downstairs to tell the servants what's going on...while holding his ears. Belle breathed a sigh of relief, she was afraid that Cogsworth or Mrs. Potts would go up to check on Adam.
"You won't have to worry about him." Mrs. Potts said, Belle looked at her, "I'll deal with any problem Cogsworth has. He gets worried over every little thing or problem that pops up."
"Thank you, Mrs. Potts." Belle said, "Adam really doesn't want anyone to bother him, except..."
"You?" Mrs. Potts smiled, "I'm not too surprised. As I once said, nobody has shown him any love since his mother passed away. True, he had Sagittarius, but considering what happened between the two of them, the master didn't want anything to do with him."
"What exactly happened with them?" Belle asked, Mrs. Potts' face dropped.
"You mean, the master talked about Sagittarius, but never talked about him with you?"
"No, he hasn't," Belle answered, "but when I saw his reaction when Cogsworth first mention Sagittarius, I didn't want to push the issue about who Sagittarius was. I'll be honest, I want to know what he's like so...I could prepare myself." Mrs. Potts smiled and looked around, making sure that there was no one else around and then said;
"Let's get inside the library and I'll try to explain it to you." Belle opened the doors for Mrs. Potts and they walked in. Both of them sat down on the couch as Mrs. Potts recollected her memory. "Did the master tell you about his past?" she asked.
"Yes," Belle sighed, "His protective mother and his...abusive father...I don't know any man could treat their wife and child like that."
"Everyone feared him...even us." Mrs. Potts said, "Because of the way he treated the master, Adam never really had a...male figure, so to speak, in his life. When we found out about Sagittarius, we were surprised that he loved the master so much...and how the master was able to open up to him. When...his mother, the queen, passed away, it was hard on all of us...but, of course, it was more harder on the master than on anyone else. Sagittarius told us that he was willing to let the master stay with him, he said that 'he deserved to have a real family'. Some of the servants didn't understand what he meant..."
"But you did?" Belle asked.
"I did, the master was a bit apprehensive about living with his cousin because he was ten years older than the master, but Sagittarius was right, the master did 'deserve to have a real family'. We let the master go live with Sagittarius, we never expected that anything bad would happen...until four months later, the master came back. I was the first person to know that he came back."
"How?" Belle asked, Mrs. Potts closed her eyes as she remembered that night.
"I heard something that night," Mrs. Potts said, "I got up out of bed to investigate, I looked in the foyer and the parlor and couldn't find anything or anyone, but then I heard noises coming from the kitchen. I walked in and what do I see...the master with a cloth covering his right hand. He looked so scared and was crying, that's when I saw the cloth turning red. I tried to ask him what happened, but...he was too scared to say anything. I mended his hand, it looked like something made of glass hit his hand or he hit something made of glass. When I was done, he took off to his mother's old room."
"The West Wing?" Belle asked, Mrs. Potts nodded her head 'yes'. "I feel so bad for him."
"We all did, we didn't understand what had happened, but we sent out a letter telling Sagittarius that the master was back here. When Sagittarius came here, the master was just furious as he could be. I could see the anger in his eyes as he looked straight at his cousin. Even though his hand was bandaged, the master picked up anything he could get his hands on and threw it at his cousin until Sagittarius and his servants left the castle. That's when everything changed, especially how the master treated everyone. He suffered so much, no child deserved that."
"You're right about that," Belle said, "no one should deserved to suffer so much. I don't know how, but Adam wants Sagittarius to come here. He told me that someone gave him some valuable advice. I don't know who, but by the looks of things, he's trying to give everything a second chance, considering that he was given a second chance of being...a human again."
"Everyone deserves a second chance," Mrs. Potts added, "even if you don't think you deserve it. For a long time the master was in pain, but now that you came in his life, he no longer has that pain anymore. Right now, the master asking his cousin to come by is a big step for him. I don't know how this will turn out, but with you by his side, I think he'll be able to get through this." She patted Belle's right hand, got up from the couch and left the library.
Belle knew that Mrs. Potts was right, nobody deserved to suffer as much as Adam suffered. She wondered how Adam was doing, especially when he couldn't be out in the light. Right now, the best thing that she could do right now was help the servants get ready for Sagittarius' arrival...and make sure that nobody bothered Adam.
