Adam was lying in bed when his mother, Lydia, said that she had to go back to the world of magic to have a discussion with Veronica, Belle's mother, and that she was going to be gone for the night. Adam didn't show it, but he was happy that his mother was going to be gone for the night. Before she left, Lydia handed Adam the black stone she gave him, that way he wouldn't have to go so far for it in case he needed her. There were a few popping noises and Lydia was gone.
As soon as Adam was sure that his mother was gone, he got out of his bed and went over to one of his windows. All of the windows were dressed in dark black curtains because of Adam's sensitivity to the light, but since his mother told him that this was going to last for three to four days, he wanted to see for himself whether the light still had an effect on him. There was still some sunlight out so...he open the curtains only a little. A ray of sunlight came into the room and when Adam saw it...nothing.
He didn't have that dread of pain that he got when he saw the light, like the first time a match was lit in front of him and he didn't want any part of the light the match was giving off. Adam no longer felt any dread from that one ray of sunlight, so he started to open the curtain even more. He still didn't have any reaction to the light, nothing could express how happy Adam was, finally being able to be in the sun once again. When he completely opened the curtains, he saw the beautiful view of the sun starting to set. He reached out and touched the window, but that was when he saw his hand.
Adam saw the plush light green fur that his hand was covered in, he brought up his other hand and saw the same plush fur. He had to see his reflection, he went into the bathroom, but then he saw that the mirror was painted black.
'Mother.' Adam thought to himself, 'She's that determined to make sure I don't see this. Well, I need to know what I now look like, whether she likes it or not.' He went back to his room and tried to find the enchanted mirror that Rouge gave him when she cursed him to be a beast. Adam looked in his usual spots that he would hide the mirror, but he couldn't find it. He started to think that his mother took that with her. Adam knew that there was one other way for him to see his true body...and he would have to go outside in order to do that. He also knew that it wasn't safe for him to go outside of his room, looking the way he does now. He would have to wait until nightfall, when everyone is asleep, in order for him to venture outside safely.
"Been quite sometime since I've seen you." Adam recognized that voice, he slowly turned around and saw...Rouge.
"What are you doing here?" Adam said, looking back out the window.
"I thought I would come by and check on you." Rouge answered, "First time I've seen you like this, what happened?"
"You know very well that I still have a hard time talking to you." Adam said, still staring out the window. Rouge took a deep breath as she approached Adam.
"Believe me, Adam," she said, "if I had known that Lydia was your mother, I would've done something a whole lot different. Right now, your mother is more than sore with me about what I did, it's to the point where she doesn't want me around you."
"Then why are you here?" he asked, "You might get caught by her."
"Whether you or your mother like it or not, Lady Temps assigned me to look out for you and Belle." Rouge answered, Adam raised his head and looked at Rouge.
"Why did she do that?"
"Because...you're the first half-sorceress/half-human person in the human world to become a sorcerer. There's a very good chance that Belle may choose to be a sorceress. If that does happen, Lady Temps wants to make sure that both of you are protected."
"Not to be rude to her, but she sounds like she takes care of everyone." Adam said.
"Lady Temps takes care of every sorcerer and sorceress that lives in the world of magic," Rouge said, "she sees every magical being as a part of her family. Does it seem strange? Yes, it does, but in the world of magic, we value many things. The most important ones are love, hope, faith, friendship...and family. We teach those lessons to the people curse as well because...sometimes, they don't realize how important those values are until they experience them."
"Explains what you did to me." he added as he turned back to the window.
"I know that you're still...sensitive to what I did to you," she added, "but I will let you and Belle know that I'm going to protect the two of you, just like your mothers. I already see you guys as family to me because your mothers are my closest friends. I know that you and I are going to have...difficulty trying to get along, but I will let you know that...I won't cause you anymore pain than I already have." Adam raised his head slowly...and looked at Rouge, he can tell in her voice that she was being honest. He wanted to trust her, he wanted to give her another chance.
"Rouge, I am trying to get past what happened," Adam said, "but everytime I see you...I think you're going to change me back."
"Into the Beast? I wouldn't do that!" Rouge said, "Ever since I...did that to you, I've been watching you. I watched you change, that enough is proof to me...that you're worthy of your human body. The man I'm staring at right now...is now worthy of the title 'prince'."
"If I were a man." Adam added, "I don't know what I look like now. My mother said this form I'm in is my 'true sorcerer' form, I don't know what I look like because the bathroom mirror is painted black and I think mother took the enchanted mirror you gave me. All I know...are these hands of mine." Adam looked back at his plush light green furry hands.
"Do you really want to see what you've become?" Rouge asked, Adam closed his hands, looked at Rouge and said;
"Yes."
Rouge just nodded her head, then she went to the ground and grabbed the floor. She started pulling something out of a blue light on the ground. Adam didn't know what it was...at least, until Rouge was done pulling it out of the ground.
"It's a mirror, Adam." Rouge explained, "You're just looking at the back of it. Just...be careful with this one."
"Why?" he asked.
"Trust me, you don't want to know. Just...don't touch the glass itself. You can touch the frame, but don't touch the glass." Adam could tell that Rouge was serious about not touching the glass, so...he slowly went to the other side of the mirror, raised his head and saw the reflection. Nothing could express his feelings when he saw what he had transformed into.
Adam had his human body, but his hands, arms, chest and torso was covered in the plush light green fur, the rest of him was light green, but he didn't have the plush fur other than his hands, arms, chest and torso. His nightshirt and his pajama pants were also torn because of his transformation. He also has two red stripes coming from his eyes, down his neck, to his chest, almost like he was crying blood, but what surprised him the most was the two large wings on his back, they looked like...what a butterfly would have. The wings were a lime color with two red stripes on each one, one on the top the other on the bottom.
"I don't know what to say." Adam said, still staring at his reflection. "I look...so...so..."
"Green?" Rouge asked.
"No...girly." Adam said, "Not to be rude to you."
"I'm not offended." Rouge said, "I don't blame you for thinking that...considering the moth-like qualities that you have."
"Moth? I was thinking I look more like a butterfly."
"You would've had more color on you rather than just green and red and the antenna coming out of your forehead are feathered rather than being thin." Rouge said, "Besides, moths have fur on them, butterflies don't. Best guess...you're probably a moth sorcerer."
"A Moth sorcerer?" Adam asked, "I wasn't expecting that."
"I don't think anyone would expect that, but I guess you became a moth sorcerer because of the same reason your mother is a porcupine sorceress."
"And...what reason is that?"
"Nobody wants a porcupine around them because of the quills on them," Rouge explained, "Not a lot of people want moths around them either."
"Why not?" Adam asked.
"Because people find them annoying because they like to flutter around the place and also they think they don't do much," Rouge answered, "but there's a lot more that moths and butterflies can do that people don't know much about."
"Such as?"
"You want to be convinced too? Fine, you know the golden silk you used to make Belle's golden gown? Moths make the silk that we use to make our clothes. They also use different kinds of sounds to fool their predators. You may also have the ability to control and understand moths and butterflies."
"What makes you think that?" Adam asked, Rouge pointed over to the window. He looked at the window to see a whole bunch of butterflies covering the top part of the window on the outside. Rouge saw the look of confusion on Adam's face, so she walked over to the window and opened it. A little yellow butterfly flew out of the group inside the room and flew over to Adam. Of course, he took a few steps backwards, but he ended up stepping on one of his wings which caused him to fall backwards.
"Are you all right?" Rouge asked.
"Yes, I'll be fine." Adam answered, the yellow butterfly then landed on his right hand.
"You don't have to fear me, master." The butterfly said, Adam's eyes widen when he heard it talking to him. "My name is Chaux and I'm your lookout."
"You don't...have to call me 'master'." Adam replied.
"I think it would be appropriate for me to call you that." Chaux said, "You're the first moth/butterfly sorcerer in over four hundred years. I also help new sorcerers or sorceresses with their new powers, my sister also does the same thing. So, as I said before, I'm also a lookout. I look out for your safety from other magical beings and from the humans. It's mine and my sister's job to do that for you." Adam was still skeptical about believing Chaux, but he knew that he also didn't really have a choice. He looked over at Rouge, she could tell by the look on his face that she should go.
"I'll see you later, your highness." Rouge said, she threw red powder on the ground. The red smoke engulfed her and she was gone. When Rouge was gone, Adam looked back at Chaux.
"Chaux, there's another reason why you're here, isn't it?" Adam asked.
"Yes," Chaux answered, "Veronica sent me."
"Wait! Belle's mother sent you?"
"Yes, she did. Veronica sent me down here to look out for you and Belle. She's also worried about Belle's decision, she just sent me to protect her in case you and Veronica can't do it."
"Here I'm thinking that my mother sent you." Adam said as he got up from the floor.
"No, Lydia doesn't know that I'm here." Chaux added as she flew off Adam's hand, "Good thing too, otherwise I would've been squashed on the table by now. I think a part of her doesn't want you to know the power you posses, mainly because you...didn't choose to be a sorcerer."
"What kind of powers do I posses?" Adam asked.
"We have to wait until everyone's asleep in order to do that." Chaux replied, "We don't want anybody to see you...like this."
"That's very true." Adam said as he stared in space. He and Chaux waited until nightfall.
About a few hours later, the sun disappeared and the moon was full and very bright.
"Shall we go outside, Chaux?" Adam asked as he looked over at her. She flew over to his left hand, she groaned as she closed her wings.
"Yes, but you should cover yourself until we find a place where no one can see us." Chaux said, Adam could tell by her voice that she was getting tired. He went over to his closet and grabbed one of his large purple capes. He threw it over his back and covered his wings, he grabbed the hood and pulled it over his head. When Adam removed his hands from his hood, he felt the antenna that Rouge pointed out, they were very soft to touch. "Don't touch the ends," Adam looked back at Chaux when she spoke, "The ends are sensitive, so don't touch them." Adam brought his hands back down and pulled his cape closer to him. He walked over to the doors, opened them and slowly made his way out.
Adam kept his cape close to him as he kept his eyes for anyone that might be around. He was a little worried about someone seeing him, the way he looked now...seemed more strange than when he was transformed into the Beast. When he was transformed into the Beast, it felt like...it didn't fit his skin. It was like his Beast form...was much too big and too...bulky to fit him, but with his moth form, it felt perfect...like his human skin. Adam just only hoped that nobody was around to see what his true magical form looked like.
When Adam walked out to the outside, he was happy that nobody saw him and, for once, he was happy that most of his servants sleep like the dead.
"Chaux, what next?" Adam asked, but she didn't reply. He looked at Chaux, who was lying on his left hand, she still didn't move our say anything. "Chaux?" he said as he used his pointer finger to touch her. As soon as he did, Chaux moved and groaned.
"What time is it?"
"Were you asleep?" Adam asked.
"Sorry, I couldn't help myself." Chaux answered, "I'm not nocturnal like my sister."
"Noc-what?"
"Nocturnal!" she repeated, "It means being able to be awake at night and sleep during the day. I'm diurnal or, in other words, I'm awake during the day and sleep at night. I'll try to stay awake until my sister gets herself here. Anyway, what were you saying earlier?"
"We're outside, what's next?" he asked again.
"Do you know anyplace out here that you can hide in?" Chaux asked.
"There is one place I know." Adam said as he started walking. He knew that there was one place that no one would dare go near because...it was a special place and it was sacred to Adam. He also knew that nobody had been there...except for him...ever since his abusive father was alive. Adam walked deeper into his larger gardens...until he came to a path with hedges on both sides.
"Master, where are you going?" Chaux spoke up when she noticed the hedges.
"One, I thought I said you don't have to call me 'master'." Adam said, "Two, it's a place that no one knows not to go near except for me because...this is a very special place to me."
"Why?" she asked.
"I'll tell you in a minute." Adam said as he approached a black gate. He opened the gate and walked through to enter...a rose garden. Chaux couldn't believe her eyes.
"I think I'm in heaven." She said as she flapped her wings.
"About time I found you!" said another female voice, Adam looked around, wondering who said that. Then, there was a green butterfly coming towards him.
"Don't be worried, mas-I mean Adam." Chaux said as she flew over to the green butterfly, "Meet my moth half-sister, Citron."
"I was looking for you, Chaux." Citron said before she looked over at Adam, "Pardon me, where are my manners? I'm Citron, I'm your lookout."
"Both of us are," Chaux raised her voice, "don't hog the job all to yourself! Anyway, now that you're here, I'm going to get some sleep." She then flew over to one of the leaves on the rose bushes.
"You'll have to forgive my half-sister, Adam." Citron said as she flew up to his face, "She gets a little grouchy when she's tired."
"I saw the proof." Adam said.
"Well, since you're down here...and my sister is now passed out," Citron added, "I'll tell you how to work some of your powers."
After a couple of hours passed, Citron told Adam how to make silk from his hands and control moths on which way to fly or to defend him from an attack. She even taught him how to fly with his brand-new wings.
"You're a quick learner, your highness." Citron said as Adam landed back on the ground.
"I am now," Adam said, "some of the lessons I learned came from the woman I love so much."
"Now that you've gotten the hang of flying," Citron added, "care to practice more on your powers of controlling the other moths?"
"Sure," he answered, "but I need to ask a favor from you."
"Which is what, sire?"
"Double-check that everyone's asleep. Don't come back unless you're sure that everyone's asleep."
"Okey-doke." She said as she flew over to the castle. When Adam saw Citron fly to the castle, he was hoping that everyone was asleep. Adam wanted to remove his cape and hood so that his body could 'breathe', so to speak. He looked at his rose bushes, the pupils shrunk and his eyes glowed bright blue. Suddenly, there were little lights on the bushes. They slowly flew off the bushes and flowers, they were moths. Adam raised his hands as they glowed green, the moths copied his hands.
If his hands made the shape of a circle, the moths made a circle. If he moved his hands to the left, the moths flew to the left. If he moved his hands to the right, the moths flew to the right. If his hands made the shape of a heart, so did the moths. They copied whatever Adam's hands did, he felt the power from the magic his posses, but he did whatever he could not to let it go to his head. Adam was making another circle when he saw Citron out of the corner of his eye.
"So you're back, that must mean the everyone's asleep." Adam said, he grabbed the hood and pulled it off.
"Adam, wait a minute." Citron said as he took the cape off his back.
"What's wrong? What did you do?" he asked worriedly, just then, he heard a noise. Adam quickly turned around, there was no one at the gate, but he heard rustling. "What was that?" he added.
"I'm trying to tell you!" Citron said, "I brought a certain someone!"
"What! Who?" he asked, even more worriedly.
"I know that voice anywhere." Adam's eyes widen, he slowly turned around. That's when he couldn't believe what he saw...it was Belle, standing at the gate. When he saw Belle and heard her gasp, nothing could express how he felt.
I've been busy, I hope everyone is enjoying this. I've had a few requests about Anton (Gaston's brother), so next chapter I'll get into it.
