A/N: REWRITTEN
"We'll talk after," Deaton said to me before looking over to Scott. "They're coming back so we don't have much time to talk." He grabbed a cotton ball.
"What are you doing?" Scott asked the vet as he applied some liquid on the wounds.
"It's rubbing alcohol," Deaton said. "You don't want it getting infected, do you? It might take a while, but you should heal."
"How do you know this? Actually, how do you know anything?"
"It's a long story, but what I can tell you is that I know about your kind."
Deaton and Scott started talking about a book with all the mythical creatures.
Then Scott and I hid in the next room.
"Hello Alan," I heard Gerard greet Deaton. "I thought you retired."
"And I thought the hunters operated by a code."
Gerard and my dad said they wanted to know what killed on of the hunters. Deaton explained the wounds, saying the scratch on the back of the hunters neck was to paralyze, while the deep gashes on his chest and abdomen were the cause of death.
Once they left the clinic, I walked in to the operating room as Scott told us he was leaving.
"Madison, have you ever heard of light witches?" Deaton asked.
"No, I've only heard of dark witches," I responded, slightly confused.
"Okay, well, light witches are exactly the opposite of the dark ones. They draw their power nature and supernatural things, like a full moon."
"That's not so bad," I said.
"But there are consequences. If you use too much power, it will start to drain your energy, sometimes you'll get nose bleeds and then pass out, or worse...it could kill you." I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding in.
"What else?" I questioned.
"Light witches are known to protect anyone and everyone they can. At times it will be hard to resist to help someone. They can sometimes tap into the weather, but I've only heard about that so I don't know if it's true."
I nodded. I'm a light witch.
The pack gather around the subway, getting ready to train.
"I say we watch Maddie first," Erica broke the silence, she turned to me, "let's see what you got."
I shook my head, "Uh-uh, I'm not a werewolf, therefore I don't need to train with you guys."
"Erica has a point," Cassie stated. "What if one of us starts to shift and then we attack you? How do we know that you can protect yourself?"
"I'll give you an aneurysm," I said in an obvious tone.
"You can't always count on your powers."
"I was trained when I was fourteen, I know how to protect myself," I told them.
"Then show us," Isaac said rudely.
I crossed my arms and narrowed my eyes at him. "Why don't you show us, Isaac?" I sat down on a chair, also crossing my legs.
And so he did, but failed multiple times. I got so bored I almost fell asleep.
"Does anyone want to try not being completely predictable?" Derek asked just as he turned around Erica jumped onto him, wrapping her legs around. Before she could put her lips onto his, I did a small wave of my hand and she flew across the room.
"Don't even think about it," I said with a deadly tone.
"What the hell?" She yelled, standing up from the ground.
"Don't touch what's not yours," I answered sweetly, pushing my reading glasses up my nose. In the corner of my eyes I could see Derek smirking.
"Are we done because I have about a hundred bones that need healing," Isaac quizzed.
Derek looked sympathetic, walking over to him. He grabbed Isaac's arm and broke it. I flinched.
Derek explained that he is not teaching them how to fight, but is teaching them how to survive. He said the hunters are planning something and they have to beware of the new creature, so he is trying to teach them everything he knows quickly.
Allison and I were sitting outside the school, she was doing homework and I was studying again. Nearly every ten minutes she would try to talk about Jordan, asking me this and that.
I put my head up and saw Stiles running to us.
"Do you know where the bestiary is?" He asked.
She chuckled, "I think you mean–"
"No, I mean bestiary," he told me, before turning to Allison. "And the two of you, I don't wanna know what's going in your heads."
"Um, can you describe this thing?" I asked.
"Uh, probably like a book, old, worn–"
"Bound in leather?" Allison raised her eyebrows. "Gerard has one."
And then he took off. About two minutes later, he came back.
"Where does he keep it?" Stiles gasped for air.
"In Gerard's office."
He took a puff from his asthma puffer.
"You know, drug dealer have been using disposable cell phones pretty successful for years." I laughed.
"My parents check every e-mail, call and text message I send," she shook her head.
"What about you?" He asked me. I shook my head.
Stiles groaned, "Alright, can you get the book?"
"Not without his keys."
I watched as another lacrosse player was violently thrown down.
"Oh my god," I covered my mouth with my hands.
"Come on! Is that thing even a teenager? I wanna see a birth certificate!" Coach Finstock yelled.
He sat down next to Stiles, "Who or what is that genetic experiment gone wrong?"
"Eddie Obomowitz, Coach. They call him 'The Abomination'."
"Oh, that's cute." I laughed.
Allison started pretending to shiver, "I knew I should of brought a warmer jacket."
"You're cold. Here, take my coat," Gerard started taking his jacket off. Bingo.
"Are you sure?"
He helped Allison put the coat on.
"Yeah."
She went through the pockets and fished out the keys.
"Good god, is it always this violent?" He asked, keeping his eyes on the game.
Handing the bundle of keys to me, I gave them to Stiles as he walked passed me.
A lacrosse player was taken away and I couldn't help but laugh.
Coach started looking for Stiles, but then came across Boyd in crowd.
"You! You! You play lacrosse?"
"Uh-uh," Erica held him back. "Derek won't like this."
"Yeah, but I will." Boyd stood up and took his jacket off.
"We got ourselves a player!" Coach praised.
A few minutes later, my phone buzzed.
'Still nothing' - Stiles.
I saw Scott get tackled and then I heard a crack. Everyone immediately ran to him. To be honest, I couldn't be bothered. But my eyes widened when I saw Scott walking back with Gerard and Allison.
So, Scott is joining us for dinner. The whole ride home and quiet, except for Gerard making small talk.
As the four of us walked through the front door, I heard Mum start talking.
"Good, you're back. Dinner's almost ready."
"How was the game?" Dad asked.
I stood next to Allison.
"Why don't you ask the star player?" Scott walked between the two.
"Hi," he greeted. My parent's faces were priceless.
As we started eating, I'm pretty sure everyone could feel the tension.
"Alright," Gerard broke the silence. "Why is everyone so quiet? Is it that uncomfortable that they dated?"
"Did you ask them if they'd be uncomfortable?" I asked, taking a bite of lettuce.
"Okay, I know it's been a few centuries since I was a teenager." I snorted. "But even back then, we dated and broke up all the time."
"We're fine," Allison smiled. "Right, Scott?"
He looked her in the eyes, "Totally fine."
"Then why did you break up?"
"She dumped me?" My sisters jaw dropped.
"No offence, Scott, but I think maybe Allison felt the two of you were just growing part," Dad suggested.
"As if the father's opinion isn't biased." I rolled my eyes. "How do you know they weren't as passionate as Romeo and Juliet?" Allison smiled.
"Romeo and Juliet committed ritual suicide," Dad replied. "They could of used less passion."
"I never really liked Romeo and Juliet," I commented.
"Can we please talk about something else?" My sister begged.
"Okay, how 'bout we talk about where Madison will go after graduation." I glared at Gerard for a couple seconds.
"Um, I was thinking of going to Florida for university," I told them. "They have a really good nursing program there."
"So, you want to be a nurse," Scott said from besides me.
"Yeah," I smiled at him. "I wanna help people." I turned my gaze to my parents. "I wanna save peoples lives." They knew exactly how I put that. I never wanted to be a hunter and I never will want to.
As Dad asked Scott if he could help the the desert, it felt like someone from the pack was in trouble so I stood up fast.
"I need to go," I blurted out.
"Where? What's wrong?"
"Time of month." Don't judge! I was under a lot of pressure.
I saw Gerard drop his jaw.
I got out of my car and ran inside the school. I don't why I was there, it was just a feeling.
I heard noises coming from the swimming pool so I went to check it out. Poking my head around the corner, I was Derek and Stiles in the pool, Cassie and Erica were in knocked out near the tile wall, and there was a lizard thing about to touch the water.
"Did you see that? I don't think it can swim."
"I don't think I can do this much longer," Stiles panted.
"No, no, no! Don't even think about it."
"Could you just trust me this once?"
"No!" Derek yelled. I rolled my eyes.
"I'm the one keeping you alive, okay? Have you noticed that?"
"Yeah. And when the paralysis wears off, who's gonna be able to fight that thing, me or you?"
"That's why I've been holding you up for the past two hours?
"Yep. You don't trust me. I don't trust you. But you need me to survive, which is why you're not letting go."
All of a sudden it gets quiet until Derek yelled out, but it got muffled.
I ran into the pool area and the lizard thing noticed me straight away.
"Madison?!" Stiles yelled.
The tail whipped me across the back of my neck, but I quickly moved out of the way. Then my eyes went back on to Stiles who dove back under the water.
I focused back on to the giant lizard, but it wasn't there. I felt its tail curled up around my neck. I coughed, glowing my eyes. Giving it an aneurysm, it started screeching in pain while throwing me against the tiled wall.
My face scrunched up with pain as I fell to the ground. I slowly rolled onto my back, trying to ignore the pain.
"Tell me you got him," I heard Derek say.
I saw the lizard appear over me.
"What is she doing here?" I guess Derek has noticed me.
The lizard tilted its head at me, like it was curious. I felt my eyes start to get heavy, and my body felt weak and lethargic from head to toe,
I heard voices, but it was hard to make out.
I blinked a few times as my vision started to darken.
I opened my eyes, jolting awake at the sound of glass shattering. Taking a few deep breaths, my vision started coming back.
"You're okay now," I heard Derek whisper, squeezing my hand. "Can you sit up?" I nodded, before frowning. I don't even wanna know how long I was out for...
I slowly sat up, still holding on to his hand.
"Who knew Derek had a heart," Stiles mumbled.
Derek ignored him, locking eyes with me.
"I'm fine," I whispered, standing up, clinging to his shirt. "Thanks," I smiled at him and Scott, who both nodded.
"Let's go wake those two up," Derek said.
We walked over to Erica and Cassie and shook them until they woke up.
"What are you doing here?" Cassie asked.
"I had a bad feeling and followed it," I said.
Once the girls were fully awake, the four of us walked outside, towards the two boys.
"Is that even a language?" Stiles complained.
How are we suppose to figure out what this thing is?"
"It's called a kanima," Derek announced.
"You knew this whole time?" Stiles asked.
"No, only when it was confused by its own reflection," Derek answered.
"It doesn't know what it is," Scott frowned.
"Or who," I mumbled.
I took a few cautious steps backwards, before turning around and walking to my car.
"Leave your window open," Derek whispered as he walked passed me.
When him, Cassie and Erica left the school, I walked over to Scott and Stiles.
"You distracted the kanima for me," Stiles pointed out.
"It's because I love you, both of you as brothers," I smiled.
"Awww," Stiles smiled back. "We love you too, as a sister."
"Yeah," Scott nodded.
I laughed, pulling both of them in for a hug.
I returned to my room from the bathroom. I jumped out of my skin when I saw Derek sitting on my window seat.
"You seriously have got to stop doing that," I gasped. "You love scaring me, don't you?"
I'm pretty sure I saw his lips twitch with humour.
"Are you sure you're okay?" He stood up.
"Derek, I swear I'm fine," I told him, closing my bedroom door.
"I could've lost you, and I've lost so many people..." He trailed off.
"Hey, I am right here and I'm not going anywhere," I promised, walking closer to him.
"I know," he whispered.
"I need to tell you something," I said sighing, "last night I went to see Deaton about my eyes glowing purple. He told me that I'm becoming a light witch, which basically means I'm some sort of protector," I explained, leaving out the nose bleeds and possible dying. He doesn't need to know.
I locked eyes with him and could literally feel how curious and confused he was. So I walked closer to him to the point where my chest was touching his.
"You're confused," I stated.
"Maybe," he whispered.
I chuckled softly as I felt my eyes shift purple.
"That's something I'm gonna have to get used to," his lips twitched into a smile.
My hands ran up his chest and his eyes immediately shifted red.
