I decided to be nice and put up this chapter early, make sure you read the tiny note at the bottom.
"I can't...breathe!" Adam said as Cogsworth was tightening his black suit.
"Today's the day, sire!" Cogsworth said, oblivious to what his master was saying, "Remember about how far to bow and choose your words carefully!" The day had come that Sagittarius, Adam's cousin, was going to arrive at the castle. Everyone was excited, but also very nervous, especially Adam. He hadn't seen his cousin in twelve years, he still wasn't sure if Sagittarius would even recognize him. Adam tried to put it behind him, but with Cogsworth breathing down his neck all morning, it was hard to put things behind when Cogsworth keeps reminding him.
"Cogsworth! STOP!" Adam said as he finally go him away from him, "I get everything! Just stop! I'm just as flustered as you are, but I'm not talking about every single detail!"
"Sorry sire." Cogsworth said, "I...was just trying to help."
"I know." Adam said finally calming down and trying to loosen his black jacket, "Let's just try to keep our emotions to ourselves for the time being."
"Yes, sire." Cogsworth said, trying to calm down.
"One more thing, Cogsworth."
"Yes, sir?"
"LOOSEN this jacket!" Adam said, "You made this way too tight!"
"I should've put silver on you sooner, Mistress!" Claudette (the former dresser) said.
"She looks beautiful in silver!" Babette added, "What do you think, Mistress?"
Poor Belle, she was having a hard time breathing, let alone trying to answer Babette's question. First, Babette put tied the corset much too tight and the silver dress that Claudette made was too small, even for Belle. Especially the sleeves, they were so tight that it was hurting her left forearm where she got scratched by one of the thorns on the rose bushes.
"I think she's just too amazed to speak." Claudette said with a smile, but the truth of the matter was that...Belle didn't have the heart to tell Claudette the truth that the dress was much too small, nor did she have the heart to say that the corset was too tight. Belle just kept to herself as Babette and Claudette put on the finishing touches to the dress.
Once they were gone, Belle looked in the mirror. She looked like she had an hourglass figure, Belle was petite, but not that petite. There was also a large ribbon in the back that wrapped around her waist. Belle couldn't reach it because of the tight sleeves, she just had to get through the whole day in the tight dress, but...she wasn't sure if she could do that.
Just then, she heard a knock on the door.
"Come in." Belle said as she continued to look in the mirror. That's when she saw Mrs. Potts coming in, when she saw Belle, she was really surprised about the silver dress that Belle was wearing.
"Belle, are you okay?" Mrs. Potts asked.
"I'm-fine." Belle answered, but Mrs. Potts could tell on the look on her face that the dress was too small and too tight to be on her.
"Dearie, that's way too small for you." Mrs. Potts said, "What made you think that you could wear that?"
"Not me." Belle basically said, that's when Mrs. Potts realized that Belle didn't choose to wear that dress. "I can't get out of it, everything's too tight."
"Turn around, let me see if I can untangle the knot in the ribbon." Belle slowly turned around, she could feel Mrs. Potts trying to loosen the ribbon, but no matter how much she tried, she couldn't untie the ribbon. The knot in the bow was just too tight to untangle. "Sorry dearie, I can't untie the knot."
"That's okay," Belle said, "I'll live."
"I should give Claudette a piece of my mind for doing this." Mrs. Potts said.
"Claudette didn't do the knot," Belle added, "Babette did, but...don't get on them about it."
"My dear, you can just barely be able to move and if that corset gets any tighter," Mrs. Potts added, "you could fall to the floor!"
"Not if I'm careful." Belle said, "Well, I might as well join Adam downstairs before he gets so nervous, he'll turn back into his room."
"Good point about that," Mrs. Potts said, "but don't push yourself, I can tell that you're uncomfortable being in that tight dress."
"Well, I can't get out of it!" Belle urged, also making her point. She knew that Mrs. Potts was only looking out for her, but neither of them were able to untie the knot in the ribbon's bow. Belle just had to make the best of the situation as much as she could. Mrs. Potts could only nod her head as she opened the door for her.
Adam was getting even more nervous while he was standing in front of the grand staircase. He was starting to hear the galloping of horse feet, he knew that there was only a few minutes until Sagittarius entered the castle.
"Sire, try to calm down." Lumiere said, waiting near him.
"I can't." Adam said in a nervous voice, "I'm nervous!"
"He's your cousin," Lumiere said, "You should be happy."
"My cousin whom I haven't seen in twelve years!" Adam added, "I can't do this!" He started to turn around, but Lumiere grabbed him by his jacket. He understood his master's worry and nervousness, but he had to try and conquer this fear. Adam was just about tell Lumiere to let go...until he saw Belle slowly coming down the stairs. His fear of meeting his cousin again was pushed aside when he saw Belle, Lumiere wasn't too surprised because Belle has had that kind of power ever since his master fell in love with her.
When Belle finally came down to their level, they also noticed the small silver dress, but Adam didn't want to point it out. Lumiere had told him not to say anything rude about a lady's clothes.
"Belle...uh...you look wonderful!" Adam said, Belle could see the look in his eyes that he noticed that the dress was too small. He just didn't want to mention it, she was glad that he didn't. She already gotten the talk from Mrs. Potts, she didn't need to have it again.
"What's going on out here?" Cogsworth said coming into the room, "Sagittarius will be in here in a few minutes."
"Cogsworth, don't worry!" Lumiere said, quickly releasing Adam's jacket, "Everything will be fine." Just then, the front doors opened up. There were two male servants, one with a yellow coat, the other with a blue coat. They walked inside and walked up to Cogsworth and Lumiere.
"Cogsworth, it's been many years." the blue coat servant said.
"Yes, it has, Brimley." Cogsworth said professionally as he smiled.
"Hmm, you're still the same stuffy man that I remember." Brimley said, Cogsworth opened his eyes in surprise as Lumiere and the servant with the yellow coat laughed.
As for Adam, he just held onto Belle's hand. She could feel how nervous...and scared he was by the way he was holding her hand.
"But by the looks of things," Brimley said, "the only one who's changed...is his highness here." When Brimley took a step towards Adam, Adam started to remember him. Brimley was the head servant to his cousin like how Cogsworth was the head servant to him. "It's been so long, hasn't it, your highness?" Brimley asked. Adam was so nervous that he didn't speak at first, or at least until Belle squeezed his hand a little.
"It's...nice...to see you...again." Adam managed to say.
"Well, before we get ahead of ourselves," Brimley said as he and the yellow coat servant headed to the front doors. As they opened the doors, Brimley announced, "I shall introduce his royal highness, Prince Sagittarius Amoux Clovis Rainier!" When the doors completely opened, there was a man, no older than Adam, wearing black and silver velvet clothing, standing at the entryway. It was Sagittarius that Adam was staring at, he felt his heart jump into his throat.
As Sagittarius was walking up to him, Adam started to noticed his features. Sagittarius had black hair and blue eyes, but his eyes had a splash of purple in them, so they were more indigo than blue. He got those features from his father, King Randolph Rainier, but he saw the features that he got from his mother, Henrietta, and that the both of them share. They had the same broad shoulders, long arms and legs and stiff necks. The only difference that Adam could see...was that Sagittarius was about, at least, an inch taller than him, but the one thing that defiantly surprised him...was that it looked like Sagittarius didn't age. Sagittarius looked the same age as Adam does, but Adam knew that...Sagittarius was 31 years old. How could he look so younger? How could he look the same age as Adam?
When Sagittarius stopped, he was no more than a foot away from Adam. Adam tried to swallow the lump in his throat as he bowed his his cousin. When he stood back up, Adam had the biggest surprise. Instead of bowing back, Sagittarius just...bear-hugged him. Another thing that Adam forgot about his cousin...was that he was stronger than Adam was. Belle wasn't too surprised about this reaction, mainly from all the information Lydia and Mrs. Potts told her, Sagittarius loved Adam more than life itself.
When Sagittarius released Adam, Adam quickly grabbed his chest because Sagittarius was holding him very tightly.
"Sorry Adam." Sagittarius finally spoke, "I forgot how strong I was."
"Not...surprising." Adam finally said, Sagittarius just chuckled.
"It's...been so long since I've seen you." Sagittarius said, trying not to sound choked up, "Last time I saw you...you threw a table at me." That's when Adam started feeling bad.
"You're...not too upset?" Adam asked.
"Was I surprised? Yes. Upset or angry? No." Sagittarius answered, "I don't have the heart to be angry with my only cousin." Adam could only smile, he was happy to know that Sagittarius wasn't upset in any shape, form or fashion.
"I have someone...I want you to meet...Sagittarius." Adam said, he turned to Belle and held out his hand. Belle took it and stepped forward, she then curtsied...or at least she tried to. The dress was squeezing her waist when she was trying to curtsy.
"You don't have to act so formal around me, milady." Sagittarius said, both, Belle and Adam, were a little surprised. "Anyone who's friends with my cousin are friends of mine."
"Well...I'm more than...a friend, sir." Belle said standing back up...and feeling relief from the dress.
"Oh?" Sagittarius said, he then looked at Adam.
"Cousin...I want you to...meet Belle Arc-en-ceil," Adam said, "my...fiancee." Sagittarius didn't say anything for a few minutes, he just kept on looking at Adam and Belle back and forth.
"Hmm...a lovely lady you have, cousin." he finally spoke, "I can't wait to hear the details about the wedding." Adam felt relief when Sagittarius said that, he was worried that Sagittarius might not approve. "My dear cousin, you're always worried about what I might say."
"What do you mean?" Adam asked.
"Don't try to hide it." Sagittarius said as he smiled, "You haven't changed much."
"Neither have you." Adam said crossing his arms, "You haven't changed at all. You still act and look the same way I saw you years ago." That's when Sagittarius' face dropped, something was telling Adam that he touched on something. He then saw his cousin look over at Brimley, Brimley was nodded his head 'yes'. Sagittarius then looked back at Adam.
"Adam," he said, "no offense to your...beautiful lady, but I need to talk to you...privately."
"Are you referring to...just you and I?" Adam asked, his cousin nodded his head 'yes'. Adam could tell that Sagittarius wanted to talk to him about something important, but...it felt wrong for him to leave Belle out of it.
"Go ahead." Belle said, Adam just looked at her, "I'll be out here if you need me." Adam still didn't like the idea about leaving Belle out of the loop, but...he has his chance to figure out what happened to his cousin over the twelve years he hasn't seen him.
"All right then." Adam said, "We can go into the parlor." Both, he and Sagittarius, walked into the parlor, but before he closed the door, Adam looked at Belle one more time. She just smiled and urged him to go in with his cousin. Adam smiled back, nodded his head and closed the door.
Whew! Another chapter! I'm going to let you readers know that I'm going to be slow about writing the next chapter. I need to finish my college homework first.
