A/N: REWRITTEN
When I walked through the door, Mum was there waiting for me.
"You have someone here to see you," she said with a fake smile. I could always tell when she was fake smiling and when she wasn't.
I frowned, but followed her into the living room. Stoping in my tracks when I saw Jordan. I really didn't expect him to come over. But then my face lit up.
"Hey," I greeted him, giving him a hug.
"I'll leave you guys to it," Mum said, "I need to go shopping." I waved as she walked out the door.
"So, Agent Devereux, how was work today?" I asked, chuckling.
He chuckled, sitting on the lounge, with me copying him. "Tiring. There are strange murders going on. I think it's supernatural."
I nodded, "Yeah, it's called a kanima, giant lizard-shape-shifting...thing," I frowned, chuckling slightly. "I'll be right back."
I stood up and ran upstairs to my room. I put my phone on charge when I heard my window start to open. I couldn't see the person because the only light in my room was coming from the moonlight. Quietly, I tip-toed and grabbed the person's shirt, pinning them against the wall.
"Oh, it's you," I sighed in relief, taking a step back.
"Are you okay?" Derek asked.
"Yeah, why?" I nodded.
He pushed off the wall, kissing my forehead. "I'm glad you're okay." Then grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the door.
"Where are we going?" I asked.
"I told you I wanted to meet Jordan," he simply said.
The two of us entered the living room.
"Um, Jordan, this is Derek Hale, my..." I trailed off, not really knowing what to call him.
"Boyfriend," Derek jumped in.
I couldn't help but smile.
"Secret boyfriend, so you can't tell anyone," I told Jordan.
He nodded, still looking at Derek. "I remember you at the hospital. You wouldn't leave Maddie's side. One time you even stayed over night."
I smirked, raising my eyebrows at Derek, "Oh really?"
He chuckled and I swear I even saw him blush, "I may have been a little protective."
I ran out the front door, but then stopped when I saw a familiar red ute. Laughing, I opened the passenger door and sat inside.
"You could of called," I smiled.
"I wanted to surprise you," Jordan said, "surprise." I laughed.
"I don't understand why you and Derek need to be so secretive."
"I didn't tell you that, did I?" He shook his head. "Okay. Well, Gerard declared war on all werewolves, and if my parents find out I've been dating another werewolf, there will be consequences."
"Oh, I'm sorry. Also, what do you mean 'another werewolf'?" Jordan quizzed.
"My first boyfriend was a werewolf, his name was Elijah. Kate eventually found out and killed him." It didn't hurt as much to talk about it anymore.
"Didn't the hunters have a code back then?"
"They did, but she never followed it," I explained.
Jordan pulled into the school parking lot. Everyone was looking at his car.
"Thank you for taking me to school," I said, smiling and reaching over to hug him.
"No worries," he returned the smile.
I got out of his car and walked up to the school doors where my group of friends were waiting.
"Who was that hot thing?" Natalie asked, her eyes trained on Jordan's car as he drove out of the parking lot.
"Jordan, my dad, so keep your paws off him," I narrowed my eyes at her. Cassie shot me a look when I said the word 'paws'.
I shrugged.
I had two more exams today and to be honest I'm surprised that I got any studying done with what has happened over the passed few weeks.
During the lunch break, Gerard called Allison and I into his office.
"So, who did you say you were studying with tonight?" Gerard asked my sister.
"Just Lydia. We're prepping for our world history exams," Allison answered.
"And what about you?"
"I'm going to visit Alex and Julie," I said.
"History was one of my favourites, especially military history. Ever hear the phrase, 'Know thy enemy'?"
"It's from The Art of War by Sun Tzu," I told him.
"Very good," Gerard seemed impressed, then turned to Allison. "Know what it means?"
"In order to win a battle, one must know everything they can about their enemy."
"Right," he nodded, "your father and I happen to be having that very problem. We've got an enemy about which we know next to nothing. It's killed one of our own, among others."
"I've heard," Allison whispered.
"Did you hear Jackson Whittemore didn't show to school today?" Gerard asked.
"He didn't?" I acted innocent.
"His parents called and so did the police. You two wouldn't know anything about that, would you?"
I got ready to lie once again, "No, we don't."
"Well, let me tell you what I know. I know that a teenager's first instinct is to protect their friends." He stood up and began walking over to Allison. "And I believe my granddaughter would always want to protect her friends, even if it meant lying. So I want to ask one more question and this time, with a small advantage." He put his hands on my sister's shoulders and her breathing sped up.
I knew exactly what he was going to do. Whenever Gerard thought I was lying, he would always do this.
"I'm not going to hurt you. I just want to get a sense of your pulse," he said, moving her hair and feeling for her pulse. "Think of it as a game. All you have to do is tell the truth. Do you know anything about Jackson being missing?"
"Is he in trouble?" Gerard asked.
"I don't know. I don't know," Allison stammered.
"Does this have anything to do with Scott?"
"No. I mean, I don't...I don't know," she stuttered.
"Your pulse jumped," he stated.
Allison quickly stood up and faced him.
"It's because your scaring me," she said.
"Oh, I'm sorry sweetheart," he apologised, "that was definitely going way too far. And you're not Madison."
My sister shot me a confused look. "No kidding," she muttered.
"It wasn't right for me to use tactics like that. I'm sorry. You can go back to class, but Madison, you stay."
I nodded to Allison, silently telling her it was okay.
When she left the office, Gerard turned to me with a cold expression.
"Last night, your father and I went looking for a shape shifter called the 'Kanima'. Then I saw the funniest thing–" It probably wasn't even funny... "–Your friend, Cassandra, in werewolf form."
My heart just sank. "Does Dad know?" I asked.
"Yes, along with all the other hunters," he said.
"She's innocent," I promised, even though I knew it wouldn't do anything.
"That doesn't matter anymore, there's no code. Is there anything else you're not telling us?"
"Like you said, 'a teenager's first instinct is to protect their friends'. I would never tell you of all people anything." I made a move to leave the office, but he grabbed my wrist tightly.
"If I find out anymore secrets that involve you and werewolves, there will be trouble," he threatened.
I parked my car in front of the old burnt down Devereux home. It was in better shape than the Hale house. Reaching into the passenger seat, I grabbed my shoulder bag and started walking up the dirty steps.
Looking around, I could literally feel the dead witch's power flow through my body.
"Alex?" I called out.
"Down in the basement," I heard him yell back.
I clutched on to the strap of my shoulder bag as I tried to find my way to the basement. There were splotches of burnt bits on the walls and floor, even a hole was missing in what I thought was the kitchen.
"You used to live here?" I asked, frowning as I saw Alex and a very pregnant Julie.
"No, this place burnt down in the late 1800's," my uncle answered.
I nodded. "So, what am I training?"
"The basics," he said, placing un-lit candles around the room. "Since now you're a light witch, your powers will be out of control like when you first got them."
"Shouldn't we see her new powers first?" Julie asked, rubbing a hand over her stomach.
"I have knew powers?" My face brightened.
Alex placed an old flower pot on the ground in front of me, a meter away. Apparently, I can blow up things...
I put my hand out, my fingers slowly curling up into a fist. A few seconds later, the pot bursts, crumbling to pieces.
"Was that supposed to happen?" I looked over to the Devereux's with wide eyes, feeling slightly overwhelmed.
"Yeah," Alex said, looking impressed. "That was only your first try and you seem to have it under control."
"Let's try something else," I said, smiling.
The candles lit themselves up.
I laughed at Jordan for the millionth time tonight. After I finished training, he called me over for dinner. He made tacos. They were the best. Even though I've been to a lot of places, I have never tried tacos.
After we finished eating, I asked Jordan if he could show me some old photos, which he gladly did.
I opened the photo album and the first picture was of Jordan and Miranda at prom.
"Wow," I breathed out. "You were high school sweethearts?"
"Yeah," he nodded. "At first she thought I was a jerk, but eventually I won her over." I laughed.
A couple pages over, there was a photo of Jordan and an old person who I thought was his dad.
"Granddad?" I guessed.
"Yeah, my dad, Samuel," Jordan answered. "It was taken at the wedding."
"Do you still talk to Alex?" I quizzed.
"Every now and then," he answered with a short nod.
I pressed the home button on my phone and checked the time. My parents would probably be worried, even though they know where I am.
"Thank you for dinner and...talking," I said, smiling. "But it's getting late and my parents might be worried so I'll see you sometime soon." I stood up and gave him a hug.
The family is the first essential cell of human society.
