A/N: REWRITTEN

"Where are we going?" I asked laughing as Derek pulled me through the woods. The sun was almost about to set.

"It's a surprise," I could practically hear him smirking.

I groaned, but kept following.

Then we reached our destination. It was the meadow. I hadn't been here since the second time I kissed Derek. The flower beds were still blooming. Through the trees, I could see the sun peeking through.

"Wow," I breathed out, letting go of Derek's warm hand.

He and I laid down somewhere in the middle of the meadow.

"I had completely forgotten about this place," I said, rolling over so I was laying on my back.

"Do you think we can save Jackson?" He asked, staring at the sky.

"I honestly hope we can, but I don't know," I said with a small voice.

"It's my fault he's like this anyway. I'm the one who bit him."

My eyes met with his, "It's not your fault, Derek. You weren't the one who made him become the kanima, it's go something to do with his past."

"I still feel responsible," he mumbled.

Derek moved, propping himself up on his elbow, looking down at. me.

There was an expression on his face that I couldn't place.

"What?" I asked, smiling. "Why are you looking at me like that?"

"Nothing," he shook his head, "I'm just happy. Happier than I've felt in a long time."

I slid my hand up his arm and to the back of his neck, my fingers playing with his hair.

Smiling softly, I watched as he slowly leaned down to capture my lips. His lips were so soft like a baby's bottom.

I wish I could do this all day, I would if I could.

I turned off my car and rested my head on the steering wheel. I was feeling a little tired lately.

Derek told me to meet him at the animal clinic. Apparently, Deaton could help us to catch Jackson.

Getting out of my car, I buttoned up my jacket as I heard Derek's car pull up.

"Hey, Maddie," Cassie's voice echoed in my ears.

My head shot up and I gave her a smile that didn't reach my eyes.

"Let's do this," I whispered, mostly to myself.

As Derek, Isaac, Cassie and I walked inside the clinic's glass doors, Scott started talking.

"What's he doing here?" He referred to Isaac.

"I need him," Derek answered.

"I don't trust him," Scott said.

"Yeah, well, he doesn't trust you either," Isaac replied.

"And Derek really doesn't care."

I rolled my eyes at them.

Cassie chuckled.

"Now where's the vet? Is he gonna help us or not?" Derek asked rudely.

Deaton leaned against the wall. "That depends," he started. "Your friend, Jackson. Are we planning to kill him or save him?"

Derek said, "Kill him" at the same time when Scott said, "Save him".

"Save him," Scott said, giving his alpha a look. Then he turned to Deaton, looking determined, "Save him."

Deaton placed a tray of herbs on the operating table as we all stood around the table.

Isaac went to pick up a bottle, but Derek grabbed his wrist, pulling it back, "Watch what you touch."

He then leaned over the table, "So, what are you? Some kind of witch?"

"No, I'm a veterinarian," Deaton deadpanned. "Madison and Alex are the witches," he added, glancing at me. I gave him a short smile.

"Unfortunately, I don't see anything here that's going to be an effective defense against a paralytic toxin."

"We're open to suggestions."

"What about an effective offence?" Isaac asked.

"Derek already tried," Cassie spoke up, "He nearly took his head off. Maddie's dad emptied an entire clip into it. Jackson just got back up."

"Has it shown any weakness?" Deaton quizzed.

"Well, one. It can't swim."

"Does that go for Jackson as well?"

"No," Scott answered, "he's the captain of the swim team."

"Essentially, you're trying to catch two people." Deaton turned around and grabbed something out of a draw. He held up a coin. "A puppet and a puppeteer."

"One killed the husband, but the other had to take care of the wife. Do we know why?"

"I don't think Jackson could do it. His mother died pregnant, too, and she was maybe murdered," Scott explained. I think he couldn't let the same thing happen to someone else."

"How do you know it's not part of the rules? The kanima kills murderers. If Jackson killed the wife, then the baby would of died too."

"Does this mean your father was a murderer?" Scott asked.

"Wouldn't surprise me if he was," Isaac answered. Cassie rubbed his forearm in a comforting way.

"Hold on. The book says they're bonded, right?" Deaton asked. We nodded. "What if the fear of water isn't coming from Jackson, but from the person controlling him?" He held up a jar of Mountain Ash. "What if something that affects the kanima–" makes a circle around the coin. "–also affects it's master?"

"Meaning what?" Isaac asked.

"Meaning we can catch them. Both of them."

As I retreated back to my bedroom, I saw Allison sitting laying down on my bed.

"What's up?" I asked, taking my shoes off.

"You know the rave party?" I nodded. "Well, this guy, Matt, he asked me to go with him and I said yes. I don't know why I did that, at the time I was trying to go find Jackson and then Matt popped up."

"Matt does look a little sketchy," I said with a chuckle. "How are you and Scott?"

"I don't know," she said, sighing. "It feels different now that we're keeping our relationship a secret. I can't hold his hand whenever I see him at school because there are cameras everywhere."

I sat down on my bed. "If it makes you feel any better...I can't be seen with Cassie or Derek. I don't really want to know what will happen when Gerard finds out about Derek and I."

After school finished, I went home and changed for the rave. Cassie managed to get some tickets online.

As I heard voices downstairs, I took my shoes off so I wouldn't make a sound and quietly walked near the basement door.

"All right," Dad's voice echoed. "The party's in a warehouse just inside the industrial sector. Allison has learned that Jackson Whittemore will be there seeking his next target out of the crowd. Since we still have little clue as to just how strong he is, we need to be extremely cautious. When Allison has Jackson's location and has determined him to be at the optimal point where we can take him down, she'll signal me. 'Optimal' meaning as far away from the crowd as possible. There will be no collateral damage tonight. Go head."

I heard someone walking up the stairs so I quickly hid behind a wall.

"As willing a participant as she seems, your young protégé there also appears to be under the impression that we are planning a trap," Gerard explained.

Guns clicked.

"I think she doesn't need to know any more than that," Dad said.

They must be talking about Allison.

"For the rest of us then, let's be perfectly clear. You don't trap a creature this dangerous. You kill it."

I frowned, backing away from the basement door.

Hands circled around my waist, pulling me closer to the person. I smiled, turning my head to the side, I saw Derek looking down at me.

"Hi," I whispered.

"Hey," he whispered back, kissing my neck, "I don't like this idea."

"I will be perfectly fine," I assured him, "I promise."

"Yeah, but I still don't like the idea, especially since you'll be dancing with other people."

I turned around to face him fully, looking amused, "Are you jealous?"

"No...I'm just very protective over you..." He pressed his forehead agains mine. "Because I love you."

"I love you too," I whispered, before kissing his lips.

When we broke apart, I spoke again, "I was listening in on my dad and Gerard earlier. They're coming here tonight, to kill Jackson. So please be careful."

He nodded, kissing me one last time.

I pulled away from him and walked over to Cassie.

"Everything will be fine," she said, squeezing my hand.

"I hope so."

She and I met up with Scott inside the building, he handed over the ketamine over to Cassie.

"Why me?" She asked over the loud music.

"Because I need to make sure that Argent doesn't doesn't completely ruin the plan. Okay, look, you better do it intravenously, which means in the vein. When you find him, you pull back on this plunger right here. In the neck is probably going to be the easiest. So when you find a vein, jam it in there, pull back on the trigger. Be careful."

"Yeah, we'll be fine," she promised.

As searched the crowd for Jackson, he was walking towards the stage area. Cassie quickly came up behind him and brushed her fingertips against the back of his neck, making him turn around. She lightly pressed her lips to his neck.

I walked up behind him, running my hands down his back. He looked at me with no expression so I smiled flirtatiously and pressed my myself closer to him.

To be honest it felt way too weird to be this close with Jackson.

Somehow Jackson turned around, now he was facing me. Greeeeeat. I made eye contact with Cassie and she nodded at me. The three of us dance to the beat of the music.

Jackson brushed his lips against my neck, making my heart jump. They wouldn't leave which made me feel uncomfortable. I wished it were Derek instead.

Cassie moved her arm and slowly grabbed the needle, bringing it closer to Jackson's neck.

Then he gave me a murderous look. "She belongs to me," he said in a monstrous voice, knocking Cassie and I to the ground.

The needle flew out of her hand.

Jackson begin walking away, but Isaac came out of nowhere, grabbing the needle and jamming it into Jackson's neck. I stood up, Cassie following.

"Hey, could you go find Scott and let him know we got Jackson?" I asked.

"Yeah," she nodded, smoothing out her dress and walking off.

I quickly ran off, looking for Isaac.

I found Stiles instead and followed him to a large container. Opening the door, Erica was there, about to wolf out, Isaac was there, a little freaked out.

"No, no, no! It's just us. Don't freak," Stiles said really fast.

I closed the door shut and just stood there, wondering if Jackson was awake.

"Is he okay?" I asked.

Isaac walked up to him. "Well, let's find out," he brought his claws out, going to scratch Jackson, but he caught Isaac's wrist.

He groaned in pain as Jackson started crushing it.

"Okay, no one does anything like that again, okay?" Isaac held his healing wrist, breathing heavily.

"Oh, I though the ketamine was supposed to knock him out," Isaac grunted.

"Yeah, well apparently this is all we're going to get. So let's hope whoever's controlling him just decided the show up tonight."

Jackson's eyes shot open.

I looked over to Erica with wide eyes.

"I'm here," he announced with the monstrous voice, "I'm right here with you."

Stiles crouched in front of him, "Jackson, is that you?"

"Us. We're all here."

"That's not creepy at all," I whispered sarcastically.

"Are you the one killing people?" Stiles questioned.

"We are the ones killing murderers."

"So all the people you've kill so far..."

"Deserved it."

"See, we got a little rules book that says you only go after murderers."

"Anything can break if enough pressure's applied."

"All right, so the people you're killing are all murderers then?" Stiles guessed.

"All," Jackson confirmed, "each and every one."

"Well, who did they murder?"

"Me."

I frowned, crossing my arms. Where's Cassie and Scott?

"Wait, what? What do you mean?"

"They murdered me." I took a couple more steps back as Jackson's eyes were slitted like snakes. "They murdered me."

Stiles stood up and walked backwards.

Jackson's claws slowly came out and scales appeared, going up his arm.

"Okay, all right. More ketamine. The man needs ketamine. Come on."

"We don't have any more," Isaac said, holding up the empty bottle.

"You used the whole bottle?" I asked with wide eyes.

"Guys," I heard Erica whisper fearfully. I turned to see Jackson in half kanima form and snarled at us.

"Okay, out, everybody out." I didn't have to be told twice.

We all closed the door and leaned against it.

"Okay, get something to hold the door," Stiles told us, but then the kanima bursted through the wall and took off.

I followed Stiles outside the building and saw Derek. I sighed in relief that he was okay.

Then I saw the Mountain Ash line.

"Hey, um...so we kind of lost Jackson inside, but it's..."

I slowly walked up to the line and put my hand up against it. A blue spark ignited between the invisible barrier and my hand shot backwards. Frowning, I looked down at the mountain ash.

"Oh, my god! It's working. Oh, this is... I did something," Stiles praised.

"A little help here," I said, putting my hands on my hips.

"Scott," Derek said out of the blue.

"What?" Stiles asked.

"Break it."

"What? No way."

"Scott's dying!" He yelled.

"Okay, what? How do you know that?"

"Oh my god, Stiles, I just know! Break it!"

Stiles got down on his knees and separated the mountain ash. Derek bolted.

I let out shaky breath, hoping that Scott was okay. Then I remember Cassie went to look for him and I haven't seen her since.

I ran after Derek until it led me to an abandoned room.

Derek was kneeling near Scott so I grabbed Cassie, she was half awake.

"You found me," she whispered.

I smiled softly, tears threatening to fall, but I wouldn't let them. I help her stand up and walk out of the room, with Derek carrying Scott behind me.

I sat down next to Derek as Deaton finished working on Scott. Cassie was still passed out.

"Thank you," Derek said to him.

I placed my hand over the stab wound on the back of his shoulder, healing it. I gave him a small smile when he looked down at me with shocked expression.

"Who attacked Scott and Cassie?" I asked quietly.

He looked down at me with an expression that looked like regret, "Just some hunter who wanted to get rid of them."

I searched his eyes, before nodding. My gaze dropped to his lips and I started to lean in. I pressed my lips to his and he slowly kissed back.
