Chapter Forty Five: Cries Of The Night
Black's POV
Ouch... My stomach stings like a bastard... Where am I? Ack! It smells like the ocean in here...
"So, there I was, standing in the middle of the streets late in the night", Someone said in a low tone of voice to my far left as I cringed and moaned in drowsiness, slowly opening up my eyes to see a rectangular light cage hanging high above me on chains that were connected to the white ceiling.
"Here we go again", A male voice sighed as a few other voices giggled to what he said.
"There, right in front of me was a monster with huge ass claws and razor sharp teeth. It ran right at me and at that point I thought I was going to die. But guess what?", A man said abruptly with excitement, making me blink as I slowly and wearily pulled myself up from where I lay and yawned quietly.
"We already know. A girl with white hair and blood red eyes saved you bla bla bla", A female voice said in annoyance as I slowly looked to my left, surprised to see six people all sitting around a large bag pack filled with many supplies and cans of food... Huh?! My heart skipped a beat as shock struck me like lightning, making me panic to my new surroundings. W...was I kidnapped?!
"Hey, the kid's awake", A gruff male voice said without any expression from the far back of the group as they all ceased what they were doing and all stared at me with small smiles and surprised looks whilst I stared at them in fear and shock to where I was... "You feeling well?", He asked me...
"She woke up a day earlier than you expected 'doctor'", A girl said sarcastically to a man who wore a lab coat and small, round glasses who sat adjacent to her to the right.
"Yes. Indeed. Well, now that she's awake we should welcome her to our group", He said, blinking and giving me a warm smile which loosened me up a lot... I think I can trust them... Sorta.
"Hey, um... Come sit next to us. Don't worry, we're not like those mean creatures and bandits", A girl around my age said comfortably to me in a warming, pleasant tone that gave me the green lights to approach them... I raised myself of the ground, pushing both my hands against the cold stone floor as I slowly made it up to my feet with a small grunt. Damn. Just how long was I asleep for?... "Don't push yourself too hard. You still have that wound on your stomach"... Damn. So that's what it is... Actually. I feel like there's more to it. Hehe. It's more of a throbbing pain.
"Thanks... I'll be alright", I said shyly in a low tone of voice as I began to walk up towards them sluggishly because of my intense drowsiness and for a fact that I did NOT want to hint that I have some sort of anomaly for being completely able to walk without any problem... This is going to be hard for me...
Corrupted Sapphire's POV
She's close. Very close... Haha! All we need to do now is to grab her attention then make her bite the dust! She will pay for humiliating us back in Hythin!
Black's POV
"Black. That's a cool name", One of the males said in a strange accent with a smile plastered across their face, making me turn a slight red as I stared down at the rubble-infested black, grey smoked road. The air held a hideous smell of sulphur and carbon in it, making it very difficult for us to breathe as the sun barely shone any light through a large magical barrier that took the form of a giant glass dome which surrounded the corruption-effected area... Half of the human zone. "And your last name as well", They added.
"Thanks. What's your name?", I asked as looked back up, staring dead ahead at the mildly populated streets infested with purple spills and red blood smears. Children and a few other people walked in groups, all scavenging the nearby debris of a destroyed building for food and whatever they could find... I clenched my fists in anger, straining my eyes before the man answered me.
"Moskovin Nikolai", He said. "A pleasure to meet you". The man stood to the right of me with both his arms folded like he had business to attend to. He wore a brown trench coat and light green trousers as well as jet black leather gloves. He had light green eyes, a nice semicircle shaped moustache and black hair. "C'mon people, introduce yourself to her. She's one of us now".
"We did not an hour ago, Nikolai", The doctor let out a depressed sigh from my left. "Your amnesia is really getting on my nerves...".
I chuckled, blankly blinking as we continued our walk down the haunted street, hearing moans and grunts of despair. The air was cool and had an eerie feel to it... Like someone was following us... A very familiar someone. It's probably my mind playing tricks on me again...
"Um... How old are you, Black?", The boy who walked directly to my left asked, making me sniff the air for a split second then turn my head to face him. He was a little taller than me and according to him, he's my age... But he looks a tad but older. I smiled warmly, broadening my amazing light blue and light red, unnatural eyes slightly as he looked down at me with a small friendly grin.
Blinking once more, I answered him with my 'sweet' tone of voice that held pure innocence. "Sixteen I think. Or fifteen. It's hard for me to remember little things". He raised an eyebrow, staring deeply into my eyes with his light brown ones before I turned my head forwards to notice that the sun was getting lower... And at an incredibly fast speed! Holy hell! It's like fifteen times the normal speed!
"Shit, we need to head back to our camp", The eldest female said from the back of the group with a hint of hatred in her devilish voice filled with spikes and daggers of betrayal. At the age of twenty two, she has yet to learn what 'other's' are. She only thinks about herself... I can easily tell... Obvious.
We stopped in our track abruptly in full sync, ceasing the endless melody of our cracking footsteps as we watched the children stop playing suddenly and stare up into the sky as their parents rushed towards them in fright and haste... I wonder why...
"C'mon guys, let's go!", Nikolai exclaimed, making us all turn around to face him and nod simultaneously... But I didn't... I gulped, seeing the shadows of the nearby buildings stretch longer and slimmer as the sun reached the point of no return. The horizon. "Black?".
"What's happening?", I asked him... He opened his mouth and squeaked gibberish as if he was too afraid to speak.. Hmm? I tilted my head to the right, looking at the other's to see their reactions and surprisingly, they were all frightened...
"N...Nothing! Let's go, NOW!", Nikolai was finally able to said, making me jolt in fright and take a single step back, stepping on a piece of broken glass which caused it to shatter into a million pieces as it emitted a terribly loud noise... My heart nearly skipped a beat to how frightening the atmosphere quickly began. My blood ran as cool as ice as the others began to look around them frantically in fear of the dark... But why the dark? Wait... One of them said something about monsters and bandits... I get it now. Things lurk in the darkness of the night! "C'mon girl, we can't afford to lose valuable time!"...
"O...ok!", I said, ready to walk forward as they all began to move until the sound of weeping caught my ears... It rung like a bell, causing my eyes to widen and a terrifying chill to crawl down my spine... A child... Dammit... They sound close... This part of my always wants to help others in need! Damn me! Damn all of me!
"Black! Hurry! It's getting too dark!", The doctor exclaimed as I grit my teeth like vices, cringing to my subconscious decisions... Fuck! I have to go!... SAVE THE CHILD!
"Do you hear it?", I asked, turning my back to them slowly as I stared out into the distance, seeing the shadow of a dog run past... I have to... Go. They're crying for help! Someone has to save them! "Their cries?".
"Don't worry about them! Worry about yourself!", The woman exclaimed angrily at me, hissing and spitting at the ground loudly before kicking up some dusk into the cool, dusk air... The clouds were now purple, and the street lights were turning on right now... "Leave her! Let her die trying to do something stupid! Wasting your life for something like this! Pfft!", she spat.
I trembled in anger, gritting my teeth twice as hard as I clenched my fists and crouched down, leaning down as I stretched my right arm down to the ground where a shiny piece of sharp glass lay beside the others underneath me. I scraped the tip of my fingers against the dusty road as I grasped onto the makeshift glass blade, hearing their footsteps become distant as I reeled myself back up and blinked into the early night, staring up ahead as the crying of the child continued.
At once, I pushed myself as hard as I could against my fears and ran as fast as I could to the noise. My footsteps were terribly loud and warned everything of my presence. I need to do this no matter what! I... I can feel the adrenaline begin to change my body!
I ran to the other side of the street, hearing the voice coming from the road to the left which I immediately sprinted off to. My legs became warmer for some reason and my hair shortened, making me smile slightly. I'm back in my male body.
Frost's POV
I held the glass blade in my right hand in reverse, leaning forward as I sprinted as fast as lightning straight towards a bright light up ahead where many broken down cars lined up like traffic. Right there, I could see who was crying. It was a little girl, held in the hands of her mother who sat on the ground on her knees alongside around seven others. They looked like they had fought a lion, soaked in blood and covered in dirt from head to toe. Only one hundred and fifty metres away till I'm there! My right eye is amazing, able to see such detail at this distance. Haha!
Fifteen men stood around the area, all wearing
red bandanna's around their dirty faces which hid their hideous smiles as they watched one of their members hold a gun to the woman's head proudly, ready to pull the damn trigger and end her life for good... Not on my watch! One hundred metres left to go! And I'm in spotting distance! The light intensified, causing me to cringe before my eyes adjusted to it properly, finally able to realise that it was a large bonfire in the middle of them all in a large clearance. My heart raced against time as I kept on abusing myself to push on and never give in to my fatigue, causing my chest to ache... But out of all the man and hostages there, I managed to spot two girl sitting on the front of a red car. One had pale long hair and the other had turquoise hair, causing my eyes to widen in shock as I immediately knew exactly who they were... Sapphire and Diamond.
Before I knew it, I was already a good fifty metres away which caused me to gain a lethal dose of adrenaline which relieved me of my chest pains almost immediately. There were two men with their backs to me up ahead, each holding an assault rifle in their possession aimed downwards diagonally which made me smile warmly and demoniacally as I reeled my right hand far behind me and got ready to attack...
"Tell your kid to shut the fuck up already! Boss! Can I just shoot her?!", The man who held the gun to the woman's head cried in anger and frustration.
"Do whatever you want. But he warned, he's close", Sapphire giggled, staring right at me as I stared back at her with my glowing light red and light blue eyes before I locked mine back onto the two men before me and released the safety lock of my charged right hand, letting it fling straight across the base of the one to my right's spine. The glass blade cut shallowly onto his flesh, but was more than enough to send him into a fit of paralysis instantly. In the same motion, I hit the second man and before he fell, I snatched his gun from his hands and dropped my glass shard... Oh crap!...
"Huh? Are you two alright?", One said from up ahead as I gripped onto the smoothly sanded wooden stocked AK47 which had a nice reddish tint to it. Firmly and as fast as possible, I smashed the stock against my right shoulder and brutally held onto the barrel with my left hand. "What?!", He exclaimed the moment he turned to see me. I ran towards the group, using this chance to cleanly take them out without accidentally killing any hostages because of a bullet passing through their soft flesh.
Before I knew it, they all had their eyes on me and all took action. But unfortunately for them, I had time on my side. Literally. Time seemed to slow down in my perspective, reminding me dearly about Mindy as I grit my teeth and performed a clockwise spin the moment I was in the centre of the place, just to the right of the bonfire... With rage and adrenaline running through my flaming dark veins, I pulled the trigger and fired a bullet into each and every one of them just below the pelvis for a non lethal takedown. Not my taste in these situations, but it's better than massacring them in front of children and parents!
I threw the gun away, facing the hostages with a small smile as the bandits groaned in pain to my attack. They all stared up at me with disbelief and at the same time, with thanks... Haha! They were a piece of cake! They have terrible reaction timing- I coughed, just noticing two similar faces in the crowd which made me nearly collapse from a heart attack... W...What?! Since when?!
"I knew you'd come Frost!", Lizzo exclaimed in happiness as her chains rattled against the stone hard ground... If I saw her earlier... Then this would've BEEN a massacre... I'm so lucky... Hehe...
"F...Frost! You came!", Phase said cheerfully as the child ceased crying. Haha!
"Well well well. Look who came out of the darkness and became light. Black Heart. Hehe, what should we do sis?", Sapphire chuckled from my left, making the hostages gasp in fear as I grit my teeth and immediately shoot my attention straight towards her... She stood before me, a good five metres away with her sister Diamond who stood to the left of her. They both held their dangerous claymores in their hands, pointing it downwards honourably. Diamond's one shone a purplish, corrupted light as her white cat-like ears and tail too had a purplish tint of infection. The same goes for Sapphire... Her blade ignited into a blazing dark purple flame, lightening up the entire area brightly in a purple tint which made me take a step back... Just like Hythin, huh?...
"Make him pay for making a fool out of us back in Hythin!", Diamond exclaimed in a wicked laugh which send down eerie vibes down my spine... C...Crap... I took another step back, gritting my teeth painfully before I opened my mouth to say something...
"What's happened to the both of you?!", I asked. The both giggled and sighed.
"Corruption and our ambitions have taken over us. And that's to never lose to anyone. With this power, we're invincible! The duo guardians of Hythin! YOU made a fool out of us back then! You even made me pull off cheap tactics to lower your guard but you kept on resisting! Tonight will be your last Frost Richtofen! Let's make it a good one", Sapphire yelled aloud...
... I took in a deep breath of air and blanked my mind... Then exhaled... And finally, I smiled...
"Then let's. But first, let them free. Or else you won't get your fight and I'll run away", I threatened, making them both hiss at me angrily... Their ambitions are their weakness... Let's see how this ends. Hehe. I already know the ending.
"Fine! Be sure to use your Night's Melody! We want to see you fight to your fullest!"... Haha... If I do that then I'll win instantly. Their ambitions are blinding them... I want to win by using a little something. The ability I didn't know I had that Quarter told me about. The ability to use their greatest fear against them. And right now, that would be losing! I'm at a great advantage!
Phase's POV
The battle's about to begin... Frost should have the upper hand but... He can't use his blackness to fight them off. It's too ineffective against Corruption.
I'm just wondering, why does he smile even when his life is on he line?
Lizzo's POV
I know what Frost has unpredictable strength and all but he's still HUMAN! He can't push himself or else he'll get himself killed...
