A/N: I haven't graduated from school yet so I'm just gonna wing it on what happens, also I think American and Australian high school graduations are different.
"Wake up!" I heard the voice of my annoying sister. I groaned and buried my head under my pillow. "Mads! It's graduation time, get up and get ready."
"But I'm tried," I mumbled, half asleep.
Silence pierced through my ears, and suddenly, my blankets were ripped from my body.
I shivered, curling my body up. "Noooo," I whined, rubbing my eyes.
"C'mon, get up!" Allison jumped on my bed, landing next to me. She pulled the pillow away from my face and I saw her smiling at me. "Happy graduation day."
"Thanks Allie," I gave her a half smile.
She smiled back, getting off my bed and shutting my door on her way out.
I rolled over onto my back, staring at the ceiling. A smile etched its way onto my face. Today was my last day of high school. The end of the start of my life...or something like that.
I got out of bed, yawning shortly and exiting my room to go and get something to eat.
"Morning." I looked up and saw Dad smiling at me. He walked over to me, pressing his lips to my forehead.
"Good morning," I smiled back at him.
Opening the fridge, I went straight for the ricotta and put it on the bench, and got the raisin toast and strawberries.
I put the bread in the toaster, setting the timer so it will only just be golden brown.
Once the raisin toast was ready, I put the four slices on the chopping board. I took out a knife from the top draw, took a swipe of ricotta and smeared it across the four slices.
I paused, about to slice the strawberries, and looked up and saw Dad and Allison looking at me weirdly.
"What? Do I have something on my face?" I asked with a look of innocence.
"No," Dad shook his head, "we're just proud of you, you've come so far, and the years have gone by so fast."
I glanced down, feeling my cheeks heating up. I licked my bottom lip, "Aww, shucks," I put on a southern accent.
Allison playfully narrowed her eyes whilst Dad chuckled. I shot them a cheeky smile, before continuing on with the strawberries.
"So would your mother."
I froze at his words, before smiling sadly. I hope so.
I closed my eyes, letting my body soak in the water in the shower. The water was almost hot, just the way I like it.
"There's a weakness in the window, place my foot prints in the dark realm, there's lonely voices like a scarecrow in the hallway like a lost cause," I sang. When I was younger, I used to be a BIG fan of Angels and Airways, and Sirens used to be my favourite song.
I grabbed the vanilla and mango body scrub, poured some in the palm of my hand. Rubbing both hands together, I cleaned my whole body, then washing off the soap under the water. Next I washed my hair out with shampoo and conditioner.
A few minutes later, I turned the water off, stepping out of the shower and towelling off my body and hair. I wrapped it around my body, walking out of the bathroom and into my room.
I closed the curtain windows, then dropped the towel.
I put on my under clothes and slipped on a white tank top, denim shorts and tied on my converses. Opening my closet, I grabbed my red and white jersey jumper.
I got out of Dad's red SUV, grabbing my bag from the floor. I squinted my eyes at the school in front of me. This was it. The last time I'll ever be here as a student. It was definitely nerve racking, but also exciting at the same time.
I twirled around, facing Allison with a nervous expression.
"How do I look?" I asked with a slight shrug.
"Amazing, beautiful, gorgeous," she listed as she, Dad and I made our way over to the school building.
I smirked, pushing away the nervousness, "I was aiming for sexy, but those will do."
She laughed, "Then you probably should of gone for the 'biker chick' look."
I giggled, adjusting my shoulder strap.
I watch as Allison glanced over to Dad who kept a stoic face, "Oh come on, that was a little funny, Dad."
"I'm laughing on the inside," he replied.
I huffed a laugh, shaking my head.
"Hey Madison," my eye darted over to where the voice came from. It was Jeremy. "Allison, Chris," he nodded to them in greeting.
"It's Mr Argent," Dad said formally.
I watched Jeremy nod nervously. Shaking my head, I grabbed a hold of his hand and looked back to my family.
"Don't scare him," I scolded like a parent to my father.
"What are you? A war veteran?" Jeremy raised his eyebrows.
"Ex-war veteran," Dad deadpanned.
Okay, my best friend mouthed, looking away. I smiled, shaking my head.
"Let's take some photos," Allison said, getting her phone out. "Madison, get your cap and gown on now."
My lips twitched and took my bag off my shoulder. I unfolded the gown and slipped it on, then put the cap on. The colours were white and burgundy, but mostly white.
I stepped closer to Jeremy, wrapping one arm around him as he did the same. We turned to the camera and smiled.
"Perfect," Allison smiled, looking at the picture that was now on her phone.
"Hey," I heard another familiar voice.
"Hey Ben," Jeremy and I said unison, "Ashley."
"Have you seen Natalie?" She asked.
"No, sorry," Jeremy replied as I shook my head, but caught something behind her.
Natalie and Isaac. She looked really angry and he just looked plain guilty. I decided to not listen in because I wanted to give them some privacy.
Dad took some more photos, so did Cassie's mother, Jeremy, Ashley and Ben's parents. By the end, my cheeks were hurting.
Finally the graduation ceremony started on the lacrosse field. The vice-principle gave a speech about the senior year group and plans for the future. That took about 15 minutes and then Ashley got up on the stage for the valedictorian speech.
I clasped my hands together tightly as the nervousness took over my body. My name was the first one to be called out since they were going by alphabetical order by last names.
"Madison Argent," the vice-principle called through the microphone.
Quickly pulling my hands apart, I casually but formally walked up the steps and onto the stage.
"Congratulations."
"Thank you," I smiled, gently taking the scroll from his hands.
I walked off the stage as he called up another name.
"Ashley Athens."
Soon enough, he had called out all of the students. We were all smiling.
"Everyone, I give you the graduated class of 2011."
All of the seniors cheered, including myself, throwing our caps in the air.
After collecting my cap back, a hand landed on my shoulder, making me turn around. I laughed, wrapping my arms around Alex, squeezing him and inhaling his scent.
"Happy graduation Maddie," he murmured in my ear.
"Thank you." Smiling, I pulled back and moved over to Julie who was holding Aaron.
"Hi," I whispered, although I don't why I needed to do that. "I swear he gets cuter everyday."
Aaron opened his eyes at the sound of my voice and cooed. I almost swooned. Oh my...
"Yeah, I know," Julie chuckled, smiling back at me.
Sniffling, I blinked back the tears. "I'm gonna miss you guys so much."
"We'll miss you too, just remember we're only a phone call away," Alex promised, rubbing my back.
I nodded, glancing behind Julie and spotting Jordan. There was an emotion on his face that I couldn't place.
"Go talk to him."
I looked back to Alex then to Jordan. I nodded, walking over to my biological Dad.
"Hey, thanks for coming," I told him.
"After everything I missed out on in your life, I wouldn't miss this for the world," Jordan promised, smiling sadly.
I shook my head, "You've got to stop beating yourself up for putting me up for adoption. You're here now, that's all that matters."
"Miranda would be so proud of you," the smile never left his face, "just like I am and everyone else."
I looked over to where my group of friends were and I couldn't help but smile. As if sensing I was staring, Jeremy looked over to me and blew me a kiss. I chuckled, turning my attention back to Jordan.
Surprising him, I wrapped my arms around him, tightly as if I was afraid to let go. I nuzzled into his neck, breathing his scent.
"Are you smelling me?" He asked.
"Yes," I said, pulling back, "I don't know how long I'll be gone so I want to remember what you smell like."
"Really?" He raised his eyebrows, "I probably smell terrible."
Staking my head, I answered, "No, you don't. You smell nice, like home...like family."
Focusing my eyes, I saw Jordan's eyes get watery. "I think that is the nicest thing anyone has said to me in a long time."
I smiled, hugging him once more.
"Have you got everything you need?" I heard Dad asked as I took off my graduation gown and handed it to Allison with the cap.
"Yes," I nodded, "swimmers, towel, phone, wallet, food–"
All of the graduated class and four teachers were going to the beach today.
"Sunscreen," he cut me off, "we forgot the sunscreen."
"I won't need any, remember?"
"Right," he breathed out, nodding.
"You've gotta let me go, Dad," I gave him a look.
"I know, I know," he smiled, wrapping his arms around me.
"I'll be back this afternoon, it's not like I'm leaving you completely."
"I know," he repeated.
"Dad," I complained, getting embarrassed.
I heard Allison chuckle, "You're embarrassing her, Dad."
"I don't care," was his reply.
I sighed, rolling my eyes. "Okay, you've gotta let go or I'll miss the bus."
Seconds later, he actually let me go. "Be safe, okay?"
I nodded, smiling and waving, before walking over to the yellow school bus.
Inside, I found my group of friends already sitting down. Natalie and Ashley in one row, Jeremy and Ben in another, so that left me with Cassie.
"Hey, I'm sorry about last night," she said as soon as I sat down next to her.
I shook my head, smiling. "Don't worry about it. I'm over it already."
She smiled back, bumping her shoulder with mine.
An hour and a half later, the bus stopped at our destination. I stood up from my seat, stretching my muscles. One by one, we all got out and started heading down toward the beach.
"Who wants to come for a swim?" Jeremy asked as we put our stuff down on the sand.
"Me," Cassie beamed, stripping out of her clothes, revealing her bikini. The top was a lilac halter neck and the bottoms were stripy coloured; pink, white, green, yellow and purple.
"Ben and I gonna go walk around," Ashley said, lacing her fingers with Ben's, we nodded and then they walked off. Natalie and I decided to stay with everyone's stuff and sun bake.
I took off my jumper and laid down on my black and white striped towel.
"So when do you think you'll go to uni?" She asked, laying down on her own towel.
"Seven or eight months after I gave birth maybe. I haven't really planned anything out yet," I replied.
"Would you still go to Florida?"
"I don't know," I sighed heavily. "I've wanted to go to Florida University ever since I wanted to study nursing, but will they even except me now with the extra baggage?"
"Be positive," she exclaimed, "you never know what could happen." You could say that again.
"Looking forward to Yale?" I asked, turning my head to look at her.
"Yeah, definitely," she nodded, "but I'll miss you, Jeremy and Cassie." Natalie had gotten excepted into Yale with Ashley and Ben so she wasn't going to be alone there.
"I'll miss you too," I smiled.
Sitting up and opening my bag, I pulled out a plastic snack box filled with mix slices of fruit. I opened the box, popping a halved strawberry in my mouth.
"Want some?" I offered her.
She nodded, picking up a piece of kiwi fruit. "Thanks." Then she laughed, "I swear you are the poster child for healthy food."
I chuckled, picking up another strawberry.
The weather was getting hotter with every minute. Going for a swim looked really tempting. Ashley, Ben and Natalie had joined Cassie and Jeremy in the water a couple minutes ago. I wanted to as well, but a part of me felt self-conscious because of the triskele on my lower back.
Pushing those silly thoughts away, I stood up, kicking off my shoes.
"You gonna join us now?"
I jumped, putting a hand over my heart. "You scared the hell out of me, Jeremy," I said sighing.
He chuckled, water dripping from his body, "So are you coming?"
I stared at him for a couple seconds before nodding, "Yeah, I'm coming."
I reached down and lifted my tank top off and over my head. As I dropped it onto my towel, I heard whistling coming from behind me so I turned to see who it was. A bunch of shirtless guys I didn't know. I flipped them the bird, before turning back to Jeremy who was laughing.
I glared at him.
"Sorry," he apologised with a smile on his face, "it's just that I don't think I've ever seen you do that before. Have you?"
"Yep," I said, undoing my shorts and pulling them off, showing off the rest of my pink and black bikini.
"Nice tattoo," he commented. "What does it mean?"
Dammit, he saw it.
"Uh, thanks." What does it mean? Well it means that I'm tied to my ex-boyfriend for life. I'm not telling Jeremy that, no way. A triskele can have many different meanings, right? "Mum, Dad and Allison."
"It's beautiful," he smiled softly. I nodded in thanks.
We walked down to the shore, and I put my foot in to test it. It was freezing! Quickly, I yanked my foot back out.
"You know what? I might go back to our bags–" I never got to finish what I was saying because Jeremy had thrown me over his shoulder.
I squealed, before laughing.
"The view is amazing down here," I said sarcastically as he started walking into the water.
"Thanks. I got it from my mama."
I laughed again and the next I know I'm being thrown into the water. I didn't even get a chance to scream.
I swam up to the surface, the water coming up to above my stomach, wiping the salt water from my eyes.
"That was not nice," I glared weakly at him.
He just shrugged so I threw some water in his face. I watched as he got an evil glint in his eyes. Quickly, I held my breath and went back under water, swimming away. I squinted my eyes through the blue-ish green water, seeing a familiar blue leopard print bikini bottom. I resurfaced, accidentally catching Ashley and Ben making out. They jumped apart when I yelped out in shock.
"Madison," she complained, blushing.
"What are you doing?" Ben asked with wide eyes.
I pushed away the image of them sucking faces, and hid behind them. "Jeremy's after me. Have you see him?"
They both gave me a look, raising an eyebrow.
I nodded shortly. "Right, sorry. Well, continue on."
Turning around, my eyes found Cassie and Natalie so I swam over to them.
"Have you seen Jeremy?" I asked once I reached them.
"No, why?" Cassie asked.
"I think he's after me," I whispered, looking around for him. I could find him in the water or on the beach.
Before anything else was done or said, something grabbed a hold of my ankle and pulled me down into the water with a yelp. I shook my head under the water as I saw Jeremy's smiling face looking at me.
I swam upwards, taking a deep breath of air and wiping at my slightly stinging eyes.
"Again, that's not nice. I thought something was trying to drown me," I said seriously, but underneath I was laughing at how easy it was to fool him.
"Maddie, I'm sorry," he sincerely apologised.
I kept the serious face, then splashed him. "You fell for it!" I laughed, swimming over to the shore as I knew Jeremy wasn't too far behind. I could hear the girls laughing too.
I put on my black sunglasses and laid down on my towel, sun basking, although I knew I wouldn't get burnt. Yay for me. In the back of my mind, it was telling me to go back into the water, but I was hungry and a little from all that swimming.
"Don't fall asleep on us, Maddie," I heard Cassie's teasing voice.
"I won't," I muttered with my eyes closed.
"Hey, can I ask a question?" Natalie asked. "Madison?"
"Yeah, sure," I nodded.
"How close are you and Derek?"
My eyes snapped open and I sat up to look at her. "Why do you want to know?"
"I'm just curious," she answered, shrugging.
Okay... "Well, do you mean when he and I were together or now?"
"Now, definitely now."
I frowned, looking down on my towel. "I...I think he and I aren't as close as we were when we were together. It's completely different now, and a little awkward. Trying to be friends with an ex isn't as easy as it seems."
"I totally understand," Jeremy spoke, nodding, "when you try to be friends with them, you're reminded of the good times and the bad."
My eyes met with his. "That's exactly it."
Ashley cleared her throat, gaining our attention. "How about we not talk about him, huh? This is our last day with Madison, so I want to create good memories, not reminisce in the past."
My jaw dropped, but then I began to smile. Opening my bag, I pulled out my iPad, typing in my pass code to unlock it. I tapped onto the camera icon, and stood up.
"What are you doing?" Ben asked.
"Ashley said to create some good memories so that's what I will do," I smiled as they all stood up.
Turning my iPad to the landscape angle, I fixed the camera onto them. Ben and Jeremy were on either end and the three girls were in between them.
"Everyone ready?" I asked with raised eyebrows.
"Yep," they chorused.
As that word left their lips, I tapped on the capture button.
I took off my sunglasses upon hearing my phone vibrating from inside my bag. I grabbed, frowning when I saw Derek's name appear. I declined the call, then turned my phone off completely.
Standing up, I put my tank top and shorts back on. I was starting to feel naked in my bikini.
Glancing behind me, I saw my friends talking so I decided to take this moment to disappear from the group and walk around.
I stopped walking when I reached a rocky cliff that was connected to the sand and ocean. The view was amazing; the bright sun shining down on the blue water. It was truly beautiful.
"I miss you Mum," I whispered, looking up to the sky, "I wish you were here."
I closed my eyes as soon as I felt the tears were about to arrive. I'm not going to cry, not anymore. Blinking them open, I stared back out into the ocean. I could barely hear the people on the beach if I used my natural hearing. It was so peaceful up here, I was I could stay here forever.
"Madison."
I immediately froze, hearing a voice I should not be hearing, but at the same time I've wanted to hear for a long time now. In that moment, the tears rolled down my face freely, but I didn't turn around because it was all in my head. I didn't want it to be real.
I took in a deep breath, shaking the thoughts from my mind.
"Madison," it repeated again, softly but sternly.
Vigorously, I shook my head. "You're not real," I spoke, biting my lip.
"For now I am."
"No," I whispered hoarsely, my eyes darting all around the ocean view in front of me, "no, you're not. It's all in the head."
Then a hand touched my shoulder. It was warm and soft. It was real.
I turned around, facing them. "How is this possible?" My vision blurred.
"You got what you wish for," she whispered, "You must have a guardian angel watching over you."
"I'm so sorry, Mummy," I was close to sobbing any minute. "Dad said you'd be proud of me, but a part of doesn't think so because of what I've become."
"I'll admit I was disappointed at first, but you're my oldest daughter, I can never stay mad at you," she smiled, "and I've grown a liking to my granddaughter. I can already tell she's going to be as beautiful, brave and stubborn as her mother."
I chuckled, wiping my tears away, but more continued to fall down my face. I wrapped my arms around Mum, tightly.
"I have to go," she said, breaking the silence.
"Please don't leave me," I pleaded.
"But I have to, Little Red. I cannot stay." Closing my eyes, I shook my head into her shoulder. She sighed deeply, "I've been watching over you for a long time and I will always watch over you."
"Ne me laisse pas nouveau, je ai besoin de ma mère," I replied, blinking the tears away. (Don't leave me again, I need my mother.)
"I'll always here, right in your heart," she kissed my forehead, "Prenez garde, mon enfant." (Take care, my child.)
My mother then disappeared into thin air, but not before whispering three meaningful word.
"I love you."
"Flight for Villeurbanne, France has arrived," a female voice spoke over the intercom.
I turned to face Allison, who nodded, saying she was ready. Her, Dad and I stood up and began walking toward the terminal. Villeurbanne was the closest airport to Annecy so Carole was going to pick us up.
"You nervous?" Allison asked me.
I shook my head, "Not nervous, just really, really excited."
"Where do you want to go first?" She asked. "I'm thinking La Vieille Ville, La Tournette or Lac d'Annecy. They are the three top attractions in Annecy. So I was thinking when we are jet lag free and settled in, we could go to those places."
"Sounds good," Dad said with a small smile.
We sat down in our seats, but I was separated from Dad and Allison. I guess there wasn't room for a third. Opening my bag, I pulled out a book called 'Torment' by Lauren Kate. As I opened up the book, something fell out of it. I frowned, picking up the two pictures. I remember printing them out from my iPad.
The first one was of Derek and myself. My hands were curled around his jacket, pulling him into me as we kissed, and his hands were gripping the bottom of my shirt.
The second one was of him and I as well. We were making a silly face. I had my tongue poking out, while he had one of his eyebrows raised and his mouth was puckered up like he was kissing.
Sadness washed over me as I secretly wished things were back to normal, when we hadn't broken up or when he hadn't bitten Mum. I love him. But I hate that I still love him. I shouldn't–I shouldn't love him, not after what did and said to me.
Thinking back to the night at the lake house, it made me wonder if I even want to return to Beacon Hills.
A/N: This is it, as it says in the chapter title, well for now at least.
Sorry there was no Derek, but Madison and him need a break.
I hope you enjoyed reading Daydreamin', I know I enjoyed writing it. Sometime in January I'll post the sequel. It'll be called 'Take Care'.
If you haven't read my other book 'Demons', I recommend you do :) It's another Derek Hale love story, but sort of a slow burn.
Have a merry Christmas and a happy new year! I hope you have a wonderful holiday.
Goodbye for now!
