Fatal argument
A/N:- Thanks for the reviews and enjoy the next chapter.
For the umpteenth time that day, Shizuo let out another sigh. It wasn't going to work. Emi was restless in the new place, every time he settled her down, she would wake up and cry again. He wasn't getting any work done. "Shizuo, why don't you go up with Izaya?" The documents in his pocket weighed him down.
Closing his eyes, he opened them again looking around the desk seeing each and everyone's face. It wasn't just his work that was getting disturbed and it hadn't reached lunch time yet. "Sorry. Can you keep an eye on her for a few minutes?" They all nodded, Erika squealing quietly as she fussed over the little girl.
Checking that Emi was happy, the blond let out another sigh, getting up from his seat. If this was Izaya's answer. Then the letter in his pocket was his. Making his way over to Tom's office he knocked twice on the door. When it came down to it, Tom was his boss. "Come in." Pushing open the door, he took a seat in front of the desk.
"Shizuo. Was there something wrong?" He was hesitating, his hands clenched by his side. He had been at TGOI for years, now that he was thinking of leaving it was becoming a lot harder to do. "Shizuo?" Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out the envelope and placed it on the desk between them. "My resignation."
His boss's eyes widened, mouth drawn into a thin line. "Are you sure? If you and Izaya are having-" Shaking his head, he pushed the envelope forward. "This is my decision." Tom sighed taking his resignation. "You know I have to give this to Izaya. He makes the final decisions." Damn it. But maybe his lover would listen to him now. "I know."
"It will be a shame to lose you." Shizuo said nothing leaving the room. He didn't look at his workmates as he sat back down. Emi giggled reaching for him. "Shizuo. Do you want anything do drink? I'm making the drinks." Shaking his head, he forced a smile. "No thanks Kadota." Unstrapping his daughter from the pushchair, the blond gently lifted her into his lap. "Aba." Shizuo smiled. "Almost. Just a bit longer."
Sitting at his desk, he tried to get some work done, knowing it was pointless. Did Izaya know yet? He had seen Tom leave his office, was it to tell his lover? Around the table his work mates were blissfully unaware of the dilemma he was facing. Kadota was trying to silence Karisawa while Kida was openly flirting with Mikado.
Shizuo didn't make it to lunch time. Less than ten minutes later, Tom walked back through the room, disappearing into his office, the door slamming shut. That couldn't be good. Seconds later static filled the room an angry hiss from the tannoy. Everyone covered their ears as Izaya's voice made it crackle with feedback. "SHIZUO HEIWAJIMA. MY OFFICE NOW!"
The speaker whined loudly, fizzing into silence. Immediately a loud continuous wail filled the room. Shizuo felt his eyes widen, staring blankly into space, completely shocked. His lover had shouted. He had called him Shizuo instead of Shizu-chan. "...Shizuo?" Blinking quickly, he stared at his workmates, seeing that they were all looking at him. "Woah! That bastard sounded pissed. What did you do?"
Mikado thumped Kida. "Not in front of the baby." Speaking of. Cradling his little girl to his chest, she clutched to his shirt. If his ears were still ringing, he couldn't imagine how Emi was feeling. "Shh. The loud noise has gone now." Removing her dummy from the bag, Shizuo handed it to her, the tiny hand grasping onto it and putting it in her mouth.
Once she had calmed down, the blond used his thumb to gently wipe the small tear-drops away. "Kadota do you mind looking after her for a bit?" His friend and colleague nodded, standing up. "There we go. I need you to be a good girl while I go and see what your father wants." Emi was silent, soft crimson eyes staring back at him.
Carefully he shifted his little girl into Kadota's arms. "Thanks." Taking a deep breath, Shizuo left the office, heading for the lift. Izaya had sounded angry. No scratch that he had sounded furious, everyone in the company would've heard it. Reaching the elevator he paused in front of it. The doors and panel were shiny and new. The lift had clearly been replaced.
Even so he walked straight past it, memories flooding back of when the damn thing stopped, when he needed it to actually work, when he had given birth in the useless thing. Not yet, he wasn't trusting any metal contraptions. Walking straight past the new lift, he headed for the stairs instead. Trudging up the stairs he wondered just how bad things were going to get.
Shizuo's footsteps quickened at the thought of yet another tannoy announcement. Reaching the top of the building, he headed down the small corridor, seeing that the door was open, his lover was standing in the door frame, arms folded, sharp crimson eyes glaring at him. This was bad. Furious was an understatement. "Get in here protozoan."
As he got closer, his wrist was grabbed harshly, yanking him into the office, the door slamming shut behind him. Even with his strength, the thin fingers around him hurt. "Izaya let go." The blond gasped as he was pushed back against the door, his head slamming back against the wood. His pissed lover closed the space between them, holding up the envelope. "What the hell is this?"
Shizuo stared at Izaya wondering what he should do. "Answer me!" The hand that wasn't like a vice on his wrist, was fisted in his shirt, forcing him down. "My resignation." He swallowed thickly, the man in front of him was beginning to scare him. "I can see that protozoan. Why do I even have this?"
Holding his strength back he gently pushed, trying to put a little breathing space between both of them. "Izaya, this is the best for Emi." It didn't calm his lover at all. "I told you I would take care of it." Shizuo shook his head. "What? Keep her with me while I work? It won't work." He stood his ground as the flea pushed him back against the door, the grip still on his wrist. "Then I'll make it work. I didn't give you permission to leave me!"
What? "Where did that come from? I didn't say anything about leaving you. " His collar was too tight around his throat. "No? Then why do I have this?" His lover ripped the letter from the envelope, opening it where it was folded. "I would like to inform you that I am resigning from my admin position at The Great Orihara Industries effective immediately."
He watched as his resignation letter was ripped in two, then quarters. His lover tearing it to shreds and letting it fall to the floor like confetti. "You are not leaving." Gritting his teeth, he met Izaya's gaze. "Would you listen for once? I'm quitting my job so I can spend more time with Emi."
"Then I'll give you time off, more maternity leave. You don't need to quit. I'm not accepting this." Shaking his head, he tried to push the flea back again. "It will work out better this way, Shiki has-" The air in the room grew colder. Shit. "What has Shiki got to do with this?" Shizuo sighed. "I'm going to work nights at Arti-" This time he was yanked forward. "No you are not. Who knows what trouble you'll get into." His eyes widened. "Trouble? You know I can handle myself."
His lover laughed bitterly. "Really? You're a liability when you're near alcohol. Who knows who you'll try and sleep with." Gritting his teeth, he snatched his wrist free from Izaya's grasp. "What? You really think that?" Damn it, he could feel a spark of anger, his temper rising. "The only one I've ever slept with is you!"
"Ah, but it doesn't have to me does it? You and Dotachin were making out just fine." What? "Are you blind? He kissed me. You were the one that stopped him." This was bad. "And you would've carried on if I hadn't been there." Both of them were tense and glaring at each other. "Why the hell are you bringing Kadota up? He's a friend and that happened ages ago."
Mr god complex pointed at the CCTV screens. "Then why did you hand him our child?" Glancing at the screen, he could see his daughter looking happy enough, oblivious to her parents argument. "Kadota won't harm her, I didn't have a choice since some inconsiderate bastard screamed over that damn speaker. Are you trying to deafen us?"
"Tch maybe if you would grow a pair and hand me your resignation in the first place I wouldn't have to. Once again you run away like a coward!" Shizuo clenched his fists. "I'm the coward? I tried to explain to you for the past month. You're the one that didn't want to listen."
"What? You've been planning this for a month? When did you have time to go to the club to talk to Shiki?" No. They needed to stop. "I didn't he came around to disc-" He groaned as he fell back hitting the floor, Izaya straddling his hips. "You let yakuza into our home? You want to go back to that place so badly? Are you going to go back to dressing as a woman as well?"
"SHUT UP! Don't you dare mention Shizuka. I thought you of all people understood me." His lover laughed above him. "Funny, I could say the same thing. I told you to stay by my side and here you are trying to leave. I really should lock you in a cage." Stop it. "Its a damn job, I'll still be stuck with you at home."
"Oh I see, you want to get away from me that much? What were you planning to do after you left? Move out and stay with your precious little brother? You two are awfully close aren't you. I didn't realise I proposed to a whore!" Izaya's words slapped him across the face. Stop it. "Well its a good thing we're not bloody married, who would want to be engaged to an ass hole like you?"
"A slut that opens their legs for everyone apparently." He froze as he felt the sharp edge of a blade pressed against his throat. "If not for the same eyes, I'd wonder if Emi was actually mine." Despite the blade, he saw red, punching Izaya in the face. "Don't you fucking dare bring our child into this. Its your damn fault I don't trust child care."
"How do you figure that? I'm not the one who wants to be an overprotective mummy. I could hir-" The blond laughed. "You? The last people you hired turned out to be a complete psycho and a teenage kidnapper. I'm supposed to trust you with our daughter's safety?" Stop it! His inner voice was screaming in his mind, but he couldn't stop.
"So you don't trust me? That makes both of us!" Shizuo was breathing heavily failing to contain his temper, The flea was sitting opposite him, sprawled on the floor from the punch. Neither one was saying anything, quiet anger radiating from him, he could feel the same from his lover. That was until a sheet of white paper fell from his pocket. It was snatched away before he could reach for it. He watched as crimson eyes narrowed taking in the details. "This is the contract, Shiki gave you?" That too was torn up.
"It doesn't matter. You are mine." The blond pulled himself up, watching as Izaya did the same. "You'll get it eventually. Even if I do have to teach your thick protozoan mind." He caught a flash of silver as the knife was swung at him. Already he was moving back, picking up his desk. He hadn't realised the office had been set back to normal. There was no sign of his nine months of hell.
The desk crashed into the wall, splintering into pieces, there was a long tear in his sleeve, where the knife had cut. Stop it. He didn't want to do this. "You missed, you really are a simpleton." His legs were knocked out from underneath him making him stumble back. Lifting one of the chairs with ease, he used it as a ram, his lover jumping up, using it to vault over him.
A slim arm wrapped around his neck, forcing him back. "Get it through your thick head. I'm never letting you leave." Reaching behind him, he tore the flea from his back, hurling him across the room. Stop it! Stop it! More furniture was thrown across the office, more cuts appeared through his shirt, every single one drawing blood.
Eventually they ended up in the centre of the broken room, debris all around them, Shizuo held Izaya up, one hand wrapped around his throat, whilst the flea had the knife pointed at his throat, biting into his flesh. Both of them were bleeding, their suits were ruined. "I'M GLAD I NEVER FUCKING MARRIED YOU!." Stop it! "GOOD! IT MEANS I DODGE A BULLET. I THOUGHT YOU WERE A MAN, NOT A PRE-MENSTRUAL BITCH!" Shizuo grit his teeth, spitting out blood, as he ripped his ring off, tossing it to the floor.
A knock at the door drew his attention, but he still didn't release the hold on the flea's throat. The door opened, Kadota popping his head around, he could see his eyes widen as he took in the current situation. He could see Izaya glaring at him. "WHAT?" His workmate let out a sigh. "I brought your daughter with me. I think she's hungry."
All his anger drained as Kadota stepped into the room, holding his little girl. Dropping Izaya, he quickly brushed himself off. "Aba Aba." He didn't have to force a smile as he took his little girl into his arms. "Oh you're hungry?" Behind him he could feel a glare on his back. "This isn't over protozoan. Go home, we'll continue this later." Covering Emi's ears, he met the flea's gaze, with equal malice. "No. It is over. Go to hell Izaya!"
Storming from the room, he headed for the stairs. "Shizuo? Is everything okay?" He didn't answer. "I'll be leaving early." Once they were back at their desks, Shizuo ignored everyone's looks, folding the pram in half. Picking it up, he accidentally smashed his computer screen. Shrugging his shoulders, he strode out of the building.
He refused to go back to the house, otherwise everything would get smashed and he didn't want to loose his temper in front of his innocent little girl. His parents he wasn't too sure what they would do. Kasuka was abroad shooting yet another movie. Kyouko would be his first choice, but the flea would know that.
"Aba Aba." Slowing down, Shizuo glanced down at his little girl. Both he and Izaya had said some hurtful things. Their relationship was meaningless. His finger ached, where he had ripped the ring off of his swollen finger. He had never taken it off, the indent was clear as day and red raw. "I know you're hungry."
The blond found himself once again in the park. Taking a seat on the bench, he shifted Emi safely in his lap, while he took a yoghurt out of the bag. He smiled as she reached for it. "Aba Aba!" Pulling back the lid, he dipped the spoon in. "Its peach flavour. Your favourite. Open wide." She did as she was told, giggling as she moved her head forward to eat. "Good girl." He was an idiot. Izaya was an idiot.
Shizuo walked through the sliding doors, heading for the counter, the receptionist already smiling, although he could see she was being wary of him, he couldn't blame her, he looked a mess. "Hello. How can I help?" Shifting Emi on his hip, he forced a smile when really he wanted to cry. "I'd like to book a single room." The woman nodded. "And your name?" Sorry Kasuka. "Kasuka Heiwajima."
Once he had the key, he made his way to the generic room, a pain in his chest as he unlocked the door. The room was neat, a simple double bed was in the centre of the room, along with a small bathroom. Closing the door behind him, he let the pram and the bag fall. Placing his phone on the small table, Shizuo placed Emi on the bed. "We'll be staying here for a little bit."
The blond couldn't help but check his phone. He could see missed calls from Kadota and everyone else, but nothing from Izaya. "I guess its really over." Unpacking the bag, he took out the fold-able changing mat and the nappies. There was enough of everything to get them through the next two days. Laying back on the bed, he closed his eyes.
Damn it. Why had things turned out like this? Did Izaya really think those things? A tiny hand touched his skin, looking down he could see Emi putting her fingers through the rips in his shirt. "Hey, stop that." His little girl giggled, moving to the next one. He needed to clean himself up. "Should we take a bath?"
As always Emi struggled trying to get away. "I don't have your rubber duck with me. I'm sorry." Searching through the items on the bath, he couldn't see any bubble bath. At some point he would need to go back to the house. Once he had figured out what he was going to do. Reaching down, he placed the plug in the bath.
That night, he kept Emi next to him, his arms loose around her, but tight enough to make sure she couldn't roll off. "Goodnight sweetie." The bed was smaller than his one at home, but it felt large and empty. Crimson eyes blinked at him as he reached to turn the light off. "Dada." His mouth dropped open in shock. "Dada."
Emi had just spoken her first word. His heart twinged as he heard her say it again. She was calling for Izaya. "He's not here. Its just us for now." As if she could understand him, she burst into tears. "Dada." It tore at his heart, his own eyes becoming damp. "I'm sorry. We'll fix it. Everything will be fine." He hoped. His phone had stopped ringing, the calls and messages had stopped, still not a single one from the flea. "Everything will be fine."
