Note: I changed the chapter around and I'm not gonna do what I said I would last chapter, the whole Steve finding out what Tony is hiding something thing. That will be next chapter or the one after that, this one is a big chapter and I think it needed to happen. Thanks for reading my note, enjoy the chapter! :D

Mini Soldier

Chapter 10

-UNKNOWN ;)-

Everything was dark, gloomy and dull. The awful feeling was at the bottom of my stomach as I was forced to lay down and be poked at. "W-what are you doing?" I asked, but it was no use. They would just keep going with the work.

I was beyond scared as my hands sweat and then I felt a ping of pain. I felt the stuff go into my arm and I closed my eyes tightly. This hurt like a bitch.

And I was about to black—

The body laying on the bed jumped, causing the blankets to become a mess (not like they weren't already but still). He was shaking; his skin pale and his eyes darken from fear and blown wide looking around for the enemy, the Red Skull and his evil minion, the scientist Arnim Zola. He realized everything was fine and that was just a bad memory.

The body laid back down and he let out a breath of hot air. It was James "Bucky" Barnes. 'What the hell am I doing? God, why do I keep having these stupid nightmares?' Bucky thought as he rolled over onto his side and stared at the time.

It was 5:49 am and he wondered if Steve was up yet. If anyone would understand his pain, it would be Steve. He reached over and picked up the phone, dialing the number he had buried deep into his head, knowing he would need Steve and well, it was Steve. The only person from his past.

"H-hello?" it sounded like Steve was sleepy. "C-can I help you?"

Bucky forced out a chuckle, "H-hey Steve. Do you think we can…can talk?"

"Sure, Buck. What is it?" Now Steve sounded more awake and ready for attack if there was one.

James ran his fingers through his hair and closed his eyes, leaning against his pillow, now on his back with the phone to his ear. "I've been having nightmares." Steve was quiet… "And I know you have them too. I just— I'm sick of lying for Fury's ass. The nightmares are getting worse— and I'm breaking Steve."

Of course Steve would understand, Steve had to understand. "Do you want me to come over there? Or do you want to come over here?" Steve asked.

"Huh?" There was a soft sigh and he heard his nickname being mumbled. "Can we just talk?" Bucky asked.

"Sure," Steve said, "Whatever you need, I'm here for you."

And with that, Bucky began to retell his nightmares and why they were happening. "Steve, do you remember when I was captured? By the Red Skull, remember?"

"Of course I remember that, how could I forget?" Steve pointed out.

Buck nodded. "Good," He mused. "Anyway, Arnim— Skull's lead scientist— was trying to copy the super—"

"Do you mean…? Is THAT how you survived the fall?" Steve gasped, and Bucky swore under his breath.

"….Yes."

"Bucky! Why didn't you ever tell me?" Steve scowled his friend.

Bucky sighed heavily. "What was I suppose to say Steve? 'Sorry I forgot to tell you. I fell and almost died but then I found out some guy had done something, made me into a monster.' Because that would have gone well!"

Steve sighed into the phone as Bucky curled up with a pillow. "You aren't a monster Buck."

"You didn't see me after you went into the ice." Bucky whispered into the phone.

-STEVE-

"You didn't see me after you went into the ice."

Steve was quiet, listening and repeating the words Bucky said a few times. Yes, Steve didn't know how Bucky was after he had gone into the ice for 70 years but that didn't mean Buck was a monster. He blinked as he held the phone, laying on his bed with the phone tucked to his ear and he had the blanket wrapped around his body. What was he suppose to say? He sighed. "Bucky—"

"I gotta go." Bucky mumbled.

"No!" Steve quickly said, frowning a little but he was still half asleep. "You said you wanted to talk, so let's talk."

Bucky was quiet for a moment, "Okay…"

So what to talk about? "Do the nightmares happen a lot?" Steve asked quietly.

"…..Yes." Bucky whispered into the phone. "They happen every night."

Now Steve felt really bad. "Buck?" He whispered, when his friend made a noise to allow Steve to know he had heard him, Steve spoke. "Will you come over tomorrow? I just— I have nightmares too. All the time. All I can remember is Peggy and watching you fall— what could I have done? You died Bucky. I can't be anymore happier to know you're back and you're the only person who understands me Buck. Please come over? I'm looking for baby names if you'd like to join me?"

His friend was quiet for a few moments. "I'll come over. What time, Steve?"

"How about we meet at 1?" Steve asked.

"Sounds like a plan. I'll see you tomorrow Steve."

"Be safe, Buck. Don't let the nightmares win, okay?"

"Okay."

The next morning was something Steve regretted. He woke up, went to get breakfast and didn't run into Tony. That was fine because Tony was being a dick and he didn't want to see him anymore. Steve hadn't seen any of the team anyway so when he went to sit down and watch some TV, Steve found out why.

"We come live to you on the scene of the Avengers!" A small blond said with a bright look in her eyes as she gasped, looking over her shoulder before back at the camera. "It would appear that the enemy has come across and have yet again attacked New York! We see Iron Man, the Hulk, Thor, Hawkeye and Black Widow fighting for their lives! The new made good hero Loki is down there as well, but where is Captain America? Is our sweet Cap missing or is he done being a hero of America?"

Steve stared with his mouth dropped open. It looked like Doctor Doom had attacked again and Steve knew it was simple, the team could win— but Steve was their leader, their Captain. What would happen if any of the team got hurt?

"Someone else is on the scene!" The blond shouted, causing Steve to look as the camera zoomed in, showing a man going in to help the team.

Steve stared as the person went into help the team. It was going to be okay, right? Right?

-TONY-

The Iron Man suit flew by the heads of many, going into attack and tries to win against Doctor Van Doom. The crazy doctor laughed at him. "Where is the dear Captain, Tony Stark?" Doctor Doom laughed.

Tony narrowed his eyes. He didn't reply as he went in for attack but Doom was ready and his minions helped him, shooting at Tony. "Shit!" Tony cursed. "Clint, get the people to safety!"

"Roger that," Tony heard Clint reply as the agent went to get people off the streets along with Natasha.

"Who's the new guy?" Natasha asked.

Tony looked over only to get hit, thrown back and into a building. "How the hell should I know? I'm up against Doom!"

No one replied to that, till… "There's a bomb!" It was Clint. "Get out of here, everyone's out!"

The Avengers went to get out, but the new guy— the one who was saving their asses, when the thing exploded. The team got out of it barely— getting hurt some but not as bad as the new hero… The new hero had pushed Tony out right before the bomb went off and the man lost his arm.

Tony got the new stranger to a hospital with the help of Thor. They laid the man down as the doctors tried to save his life. The man had lost his arm, leaving him with only one. Tony said he'd make the best robotic arm he could for the man that had saved his life. He would save the man.

The only problem was, when the man opened his eyes hours later, Tony and the Avengers (-Steve) found out that the hero had been someone they hadn't seen coming. It was Bucky.

Bucky had saved their asses and had done an amazing job at it. As Buck opened his eyes he seemed scared. "W-what happened? W-where am I?" He asked.

Tony had called Steve, and Steve was freaking out at home.

"Hey, sleeping beauty. You're at the hospital because you didn't stay home and wanted to play hero." Tony explained. "You lost your arm though."

Bucky looked at his arm and his eyes widen. "Who are you?!"

James Barnes had forgotten who Tony Stark was. He had forgotten everything and thought it was the 1940's again.

Up Next: Bucky thinks it's the 1940's, well Steve is freaking out. And a new villain is relieved.

Sorry about the crappy fighting scene. I don't usually write that kind of stuff— I write more about fluff. XD STONY! *heart* so review please? Please and thank you?
