Mini Soldier
Note: TINY spoiler for Captain America 2 in this! Sorry guys! I couldn't help it
Chapter 11
The doctors put Bucky back under to rest, to maybe fix his brain a little. Tony had called Steve in, in hopes that maybe the super soldier could help Buck. Sure, Tony didn't really like the other man but he knew he meant a lot to Steve.
Tony cared deeply for Steve.
So at the moment, Steve sat on a chair in the waiting room, Tony pacing, and Bruce playing with his fingers sitting in a sit across from Steve. "This is my fault…" Tony muttered under his breath. "If I had—"
"You couldn't have done anything differently," Steve told his friend and sighed.
Then, a nurse entered. She walked up to them. They all stood (Tony just stayed standing). "Are you all here for James Barnes?" The nurse asked.
They all nodded. "Is he okay? Will he be okay?" Steve asked, looking so hopeless yet hopeful. His friend would get better, right?
The nurse looked at Steve with sadness in her eyes. "He's stable but we aren't in the clear yet. He's in a coma."
Steve almost dropped to the ground. Bucky was in a coma? How could this have happened? "B-Buck's i-in a coma?" Steve stuttered, "H-how?"
Tony knew Steve might not want him to, but Tony wrapped his arms around the blond and Steve almost fell into his arms, his blue eyes sad and worried. The nurse looked truly sorry. "When that bomb went off, Mr. Barnes was caught by it. It seemed it reset his memory. And when he began to freak out upon seeing Mr. Stark, we put him under to go to sleep and calm down. Sadly, this caused Mr. Barnes to fall into a coma." The nurse explained sadly. "I'm really sorry for you all."
She turned and left.
Steve stood there, staring for a moment before hiding away in Tony's neck, and he began to shake. Tony had never seen Steve break down before, he was always so strong and someone you could lean again. Now, the super soldier needed someone to hold him and that person would be Tony.

3 days later
They had stayed at the hospital in case Bucky woke up. Bruce had returned to the tower to make sure everything didn't fall apart. Tony stayed with Steve, to comfort the big guy. In Steve's emotional state, this was nothing he could handle by himself. And it was bad when Steve began to talk about his fondest memories of the annoying man.
"He saved me, y-you know…" Steve began late afternoon, shortly after lunch that neither ate too much of. "H-he was a-always so br-bright…"
"Shh," Tony wrapped his arms around the big blond and pulled him close. "He'll make out of this, I know it."
Steve nodded as he closed his eyes, holding onto Tony tightly. Tony found out more about both men by Steve recalling the memories. He didn't know that Bucky had been the reason why Steve had been chosen; the date Bucky had set up had been right where Steve needed to be, and had gotten into the army.
Shortly after that, Steve had met Howard and then Steve recalled more of the memories between his best friend and self, but Tony tried not to pay attention. It was some private stuff. Finally, Steve fell asleep against Tony's shoulder. "Everything's going to be okay, Cap…I'm not gonna let him get away that easy…not when you love him so much."
4 days later
Tony and Steve had returned to the tower. They stayed close to one another, even though Steve technically hadn't forgiven him yet. Bruce had gone right up to them and gave Steve a soft sad smile. "May I see you in private?" Bruce asked.
Steve shook his head, holding onto Tony now. "I-I….I can't…"
Bruce nodded. "That's fine, remember what today is?"
Steve shook his head. "I'm sorry….should I remember?"
"Yes," Bruce said softly and calmly. "Today we were going to check on the twins."
"Oh…"
Steve whimpered quietly before Tony stepped towards him, wrapping his arm around the soldier's waist. "Hey, can I come big guy?" He asked as Bruce looked to Steve for the answer. Steve nodded and then Bruce nodded. "Okay let's check out these little guys!" He tried to cheer Steve up by simple things.
-STEVE-
It felt so wrong to him as Tony took his hand, well Bruce got everything ready. Tony had never been present before to see the twins (well there was the one time but that was an accident!). Steve laid on the bed in the lab, his shirt still on but pulled up so they could get to his belly. Bruce was putting jelly stuff on him and Steve shivered. "What is that stuff?" Tony asked.
"I thought you were a genius," Steve pointed out.
Tony glared playfully. "I don't know everything and this….stuff isn't something I usually look up! So what is it?"
Bruce looked up. "It helps with this machine so we can see into the stomach area— or anywhere for that matter— and see what's going on inside." Bruce explained.
"This is why you're the doc, Brucey." Tony said and smirked at his science bro. Bruce rolled his eyes as he began the machine and Steve sat perfectly still. Tony squeezed Steve's hand and Steve looked up, smiling slightly. "Sooo what's the genders?"
Bruce and Steve look at one another. "I— we don't know," Bruce said. "The babies haven't been in place so we can see."
Tony nodded. "Well, I'd like to know so I can get the place ready for either girls or boys or one of each."
Steve looked at Tony like he was some hero of some sort. Bruce felt a ping of jealousy but hid it. He moved the machine handle and looked over at the screen. Tony watched with wide eyes, holding onto Steve's hand. "I-I think I found the genders…." Bruce said slowly.
"Really, what are they?" Tony and Steve asked together.
"Umm— two boys, congrats!" Bruce said.
-NO ONE'S POINT OF VIEW-
-S.H.I.E.L.D. HQ-
Nick Fury felt like he was losing his mind, thinking about what to do. Someone was going down or were getting into the files at S.H.I.E.L.D. because private things were getting leaked out. He didn't know what to do or what to say, so he sat in his office thinking long and hard.
There was a knock.
"Come in." He said gruffly to the door.
"Sir?" the door opened and Maria Hills was standing there, looking unsure. "Agent Coulson is on the line."
Nick sighed as he rubbed his forehead. "Tell him I'm busy."
Hills nodded, "Yes sir." She turned to leave but stopped. "Sir, may I ask something?"
He looked up, raising his eyebrow as his eye-patch covered his eye. "What is it Agent Hills? I am busy you know."
She took in a deep breath. "Steve called a little while ago about a new addiction to the team." Hills said slowly, "Your thoughts?" She seemed a little nervous but still the bad-ass Maria Hills everyone knew her to be.
Nick thought for a moment then locked eyes with her. "We may just need the person," he said. "What's the name?"
"James 'Bucky' Barnes, sir." She said. "He—"
"I know who he is!" Nick snapped and she didn't look too surprised. He mumbled a sorry as he rubbed his forehead. "Bring in Coulson. I think we need to visit this Mr. Barnes."
Hills shifted, "That maybe hard, sir."
"And why is that?"
"He's in a coma." Maria said quietly.
Nick looked actually surprised. "You mean…? A coma? How did that happen?"
"Mr. Barnes saved Mr. Stark's ass, sir." Maria said and Nick flashed her a grin. "Pardon my language, sir. I was wondering though— should I call in Agent Romanoff?"
Nick shook his head as he turned around in his wheel-y chair. "No, Agent Hills, you do not need to call Agent Romanoff. However, I need Coulson on the line. He's being reassigned to the Avenger tower to protect the Avengers. I don't think they're safe…" Nick said.
Hills was confused. "And why is that? Why aren't they safe?"
The director looked out the window. "It would seem Hydria is getting active again. You look just get Coulson and I'll take care of the rest. That will be all, Agent Hills."
"Yes sir," Hills said before leaving the room.

Up Next: Tony and Steve FINALLY get the chance to get to talk about baby names together. Bucky's body goes missing at the hospital. Coulson arrives at the tower and Natasha is craving apples.
Yes, I'm sorry for those who haven't seen The Winter Soldier but I couldn't help but add that in! I think (hope really) that Phil will reappear in the Avengers movies.
