Kim fell to the floor, sobbing and whispering things to herself. "No. My little sister will live. Nothing will happen to her. My little sister is a fighter. She will stay with me forever." Kim kept talking to herself. Jack couldn't take it anymore. He hated to see Kim cry. He sat down next to her and pulled her into his arms. They didn't care that they were in public. There was nobody else in the waiting anyway.
Kim kept crying and sobbing. She wouldn't stop. She didn't have a reason to stop. First she had lost her parents, and now she was going to lose her little sister. A nurse then came out of the emergency room. "You may see Alex. But please be quiet until she wakes up." Everyone filed into the room. They all stood around Alex's bed. Just watching her sleep. Not in a creepy way. But in a loving way. She will always be with them no matter what. Kim buried her face into Jack's chest so that her cries muffled.
"K-Kim- Kimmy?" A quiet, raspy voice said. Kim shot her head up and looked to Alex. "Alex!" Kim went up to her baby sister and hugged her, making sure the hug wasn't too tight. Alex lightly hugged back, as she was too physically weak to do anything forcefully. Everyone went out of the room to give the two girls a little time alone. "Ki-Kimmy?" Alex asked. "Yes, sweetie?" Kim replied. "I-I a-am goi-going t-to d-die-die so-soon, righ-right?" Alex asked. Kim tried to hold back the tears. She couldn't even talk correctly! Every word that came out of Alex's mouth made the hole in Kim's heart bigger.
"No, honey. You are just going to visit mom and dad for a while. I will come to visit later on." Kim said. "W-w-where a-ar-are m-mom a-and d-dad?" Alex asked, trying to get the words out normally. Kim smiled a sad smile. "They are in paradise. They are in an amazing place. I can't tell you where they are because they told me to keep it a surprise." Kim said warmly. "P-Plea-Please t-tell me K-Ki-Kimmy!" Alex exclaimed. "Nope. You have to find out for yourself." Kim said jokingly. But deep inside, she knew that Alex already knew. "Alex, I love you no matter what, alright? Never forget that. You are the best thing in my life. I love you." Kim said as a single tear rolled down her cheek.
"I-I lo-love y-you t-too K-K-Kimmy! B-but w-why ar-are y-you c-cr-crying?" Alex asked. "Because I am going to miss you while you are visiting mommy and daddy." Kim replied. "O-oh o-okay. B-but d-don't w-worry. Y-you a-are a-also g-going t-t-to j-join m-me s-soon. I-it w-won't be t-tha-that l-long." Alex said. Kim smiled. "I'm going to go now. Aunt Ella will come in next." Kim said. "O-o-okay." Alex replied. Kim got up and turned around and started walking towards the door. That's when the flood started. The walls that were blocking the tears crumbled down. They wouldn't stop coming down.
Kim opened the doors of the room. "Aunt Ella. She want's to see y-you." Kim stuttered because of how much she cried. Ella wiped away her tears and kissed Kim on her forehead. Ella took a deep breath and walked into the room with a big smile. Kim ran into Jack's open arms and sobbed into his chest. Her grandparents came up to Jack and Kim and tried to calm her down, while their own tears spilled. Jack whispered calming words into her ear and just let her cry.
They all went to see Alex one more time before they had to go home. Ella was staying back with Alex. Kim was going home. Alex met Jack and had a very interesting conversation about dolls and Barbie. Kim kissed Alex on her forehead and said one last goodbye. "I'll be back first thing in the morning, okay Alex?" Kim said. "O-okay! B-bye K-Ki-Kimmy!" Kim smiled and walked out the door. Kim and Jack got into the car. Kim looked out the window as the floodgates opened again. Jack read Kim's negative thoughts.
"Everything will be alright, Kim. Don't worry. I'm here for you." Jack said. "She couldn't even talk right, Jack! She stuttered in every single word! She is such a little girl! First we lose our parents and now I'm losing HER! Why did this have to happen?!" Kim sobbed. Jack put a reassuring hand on Kim's knee. He just said calming words and drove home. He parked the car in the parking lot. They both got out and walked to the front door, tears still coming out of of Kim's eyes. Jack slid his arm around her waist as they walked into the house. "I'm going to bed." Kim said quietly.
"Eat dinner first, Kim." Jack said. "No. I'm going to skip dinner today. I'm not hungry." Kim replied. "Please, Kim? Eat dinner. For me?" Jack pleaded. He hated seeing Kim in this state. "No. I'm not hungry." Kim said quietly as she walked up the stairs. She went into the bathroom. She looked in the mirror. She looked horrible! Ugh. Baggy eyes. Dull hair. Dull skin. I look terrible. She didn't even care. Kim walked into her room and got out gray sweats and a black, baggy t-shirt. She quickly changed and threw her other clothes somewhere in the room. She plopped on the bed. Long day. She thought. Tears began the come out of her eyes again.
Jack came into the room and layed down beside her. She needed him. Kim scootched closer to him and snuggled into his chest, still crying. He just whispered calming things into her ear until she fell asleep. Jack didn't want to see Kim cry. He hated it. Jack loved her and wanted her to be happy. She was crying and in a terrible state and he couldn't do anything about it and he hated it. Kim cried herself to sleep last night. She fell asleep, snuggled into Jack's chest.
