As much as she wanted to go into the building and get her job done to the best of her ability, Elsa couldn't shake off the thought about her father and his deal. Her mind went racing as she got more into it and recalled the details her father had mentioned; obviously someone at the company knew who she was and who her father was. Otherwise they wouldn't go to the trouble of trying to involve her in the merging of business. She couldn't help but think it was too much of a coincidence, would the deal have happened even if she had never stepped a foot in the office?
Those were the thoughts that ran through her head as she made her way into the office. She examined each employee and board member, trying to put a face to the "gentleman" her father had mentioned.
Surely it couldn't be Oaken, he would have mentioned something if he wanted to conduct business with my father...
Which means...
Elsa tried to wrap her head around the whole ordeal, there were so many possibilities but as she felt like she was finally getting somewhere Anna tapped her shoulder from behind.
"You'll be late if you don't get to the elevator in time," Anna gave her a warm smile. "Elsa, aren't you cold?" The redhead noticed the outfit Elsa was wearing, a grey pair of slacks, dark blue loafers, a blue cotton shirt covered by a black blazer and a thin, long scarf that rarely covered any of her and served more as a decoration.
"I'm used to the cold, it's my type of weather." She shrugged.
Anna gave her an annoyed look, "alright, just don't be surprised when I say I told you so when you get sick."
Elsa gave her a sheepishly smile and pinched the redhead's cheek. It took Anna by surprise, mostly because she never thought Elsa would initiate such type of contact. "Are you trying to make me blush in front of everyone?" She said after noticing a few coworkers staring at her.
Elsa finally let go, "no I just always wanted to do that. You're cheeks are just so..."
Anna had a big grin on her face by the time Elsa began to explain herself, "so..?" She questioned.
"Good morning, ladies." Hans appeared from behind them, "looks like you beat me to the elevator this morning."
Anna wanted to do something, anything, to remove the arrogant smile from his face...and the way he looked at Elsa, but she knew better. "Or the elevator is making more stops than usual," she responded in a matter of fact manner.
He turned to look at Anna and waited a few seconds before saying anything. "Could be," he then diverted his attention to Elsa, who was staring elsewhere to avoid eye contact. "I'm glad I reached you before you headed up and got busy with work, I was hoping we could talk?" Hans didn't have to say her name for both girls to know he was referring to Elsa.
The blonde looked around, pretending to be distracted, "who? Me?" She pointed to herself, "sure! Just let me know when you're available," she had to be polite even when she didn't want to be.
"As soon as possible; In fact, why don't you step into my office as soon as we make it up?"
"I can do that," Elsa half nodded and the elevator doors opened on cue.
The lift to the fifth floor was silent, much to Anna's dismay. On any other situation she wouldn't have minded, but with Hans in the elevator, it was a different story. She tried to keep her distance as Hans approached Elsa, trying to be intimate one way or another. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed how he placed his hand on her shoulder and looked at her, attempting to gain her attention. Anna was jealous and she knew it, but she had to understand that was also probably how Elsa felt about Samantha and her, that is if Elsa was even capable if feeling jealousy. If Elsa was willing to understand and tolerate another person in her life, then so should Anna, or that's what she kept telling herself on the way up.
The group parted ways, Hans and Elsa to his office and Anna to the archive room, where she would spend the rest of her day trying to think of anything except about what might be happening a few doors from her.
"Sorry about the short notice," he threw his coat into the coat hanger and placed his suitcase over his desk, "and I'm sorry for pulling you in here like that, I guess I just wanted to see you."
Oh...
He took a deep breath in and smiled, "nothing business related, I swear... Well sort of," he shifted his eyes.
"I'm intrigued," Elsa returned the smile, but she was truly interested.
"Let's get down to business then, well business and pleasure that is," he placed his elbows on the desk and leaned in, as if afraid someone else might hear, "I was hoping to take you to lunch today."
Relief washed over Elsa, thinking he wanted to discuss something more serious, "Hans, if it weren't for all the work we still have to get done, I would kindly accept but-"
"Don't worry about the work load, Oaken did say you could take as long as you needed, plus you'll probably be likely to do a better job after lunch."
"I wouldn't feel right leaving it all to Anna."
"She has to take lunch as well, doesn't she? I assure you, we'll be back in no time."
Well, someone's persistent...
"In which case, I'll be glad to. Now if there isn't anything else-" She felt the need to get out of there.
"There is, actually." Her heart skipped a beat.
"Christmas is just around the corner and well, since you're not familiar with company tradition, I'm sure you're not aware of our Christmas Ball...," Elsa shook her head, "I figured. Anyway, we'd love to have you two, Anna and yourself, join us. You are part of the company, after all."
"Gladly," she agreed, hoping she would be able to just leave as fast as she could. Hans didn't say anything after, not even as she stood up so she didn't delay a second and stepped out.
That certainly felt like more than a few minutes, she thought after looking at her watch.
Hans was definitely coming on too strong all of the sudden. Why would he call her into his office just to ask her out to lunch? Of course there was no doubt anymore about who the person her father had mentioned was. Who else could it have been but Hans? His intentions, however, were still unclear to her. There had to be a reason why he wanted her involved, it had to be more than his apparent attraction towards her. But that was a question she would have to try to answer later, she needed to get to work.
I wonder if Anna got started...
She couldn't hide her smile at the thought of her. She opened the door to the archive room, only to find Anna on her phone with a big pile of papers next to her. The redhead, taken by surprise, jumped out of her seat and managed to catch her phone as it also jumped out of her hands. Elsa stood at the door, waiting, until she finally let out a bark of laughter.
"It's not funny," Anna said as she stood and removed imaginary dust away from her lap.
"You always say that, but it's always funny. I think I need to startle you more often..." Elsa had a mischievous grin on her face as she shut the door and walked towards Anna, who didn't seem to notice yet.
When she finally did, she bit her lip, "oh yeah, what are you going to do next?" She challenged.
"I can think of a million things," Elsa cocked an eyebrow as the small distance between the two disappeared. Anna stared at her for what seemed like hours, to her at least. Was Elsa capable of teasing her again? It didn't matter, she gave in. Her right hand moved to the back of Elsa's neck faster than Elsa was able to lean in to her lips, but the result was the same nonetheless; they were kissing and going at it, not minding their surroundings.
Anna rubbed her fingers lightly on the blonde's neck, only to have them travel down her back. Their contact had definitely become heated and Elsa was up to no good either. The blonde girl was struggling to get Anna's blazer off of her but she finally managed, not taking the time to think about what she was about to do.
The small time frame that resulted with no lip contact gave Anna the initiative to explore other parts of the blonde's body. She lightly bit the side of Elsa's neck and provided soft, heated kisses down her clavicle. To Elsa, that seemed like ecstasy and she couldn't stop herself from encouraging their act or from holding on to Anna and pushing her up and on to the desk as she stood between both of her legs.
Their breathing became shorter as their hands roamed around each other's bodies, or the parts they had access to. In a desperate attempt to reach for the back of Anna's blouse, Elsa's left hand moved from the redhead's inner thigh to the wall behind Anna, managing to push the pile of papers they had managed to accumulate before. That seemed to register something inside of Elsa's head, and she found herself grabbing Anna's wrists in order to stop her from continuing. "Anna... This isn't right..." The girl looked around, motioning for Anna to do the same, to take in their environment.
"What? Like you've never wanted to do it in an office before?" She found herself kissing Elsa after each word.
"It's not just that..." She kept pulling away.
Anna finally understood and pulled her hands away from the blonde's hold, "what is it then?"
"There are other factors involved."
"Like what?" Anna's facial expression was imploring.
"We said we'd take things slow... and I've never-" She took a second to think about what was coming next. If she really wanted to be with Anna, the girl had to know, and she would find out either way but she didn't know what kind of reaction to expect from her. She decided to be honest nonetheless, "you know I've never been with a girl before..."
"You're full of surprises aren't you? That's what I love about you," they both stood there, smiling stupidly at each other.
Well okay, her reaction wasn't bad at all.
"And about the other thing...," Anna continued to talk, "I see what you're saying. You want me to be clear on what I feel." The redhead cocked her head to the left, as if waiting for Elsa's approval.
Elsa nodded, "yes and I don't want you to think that this... What was about to happen... That this is some way of me trying to convince you or change your mind about your decision."
"There is no decision Elsa, I have feelings for you. That's a fact and you know that."
Elsa walked away and occupied herself with papers again, "I know, but you still have to decide whether these feelings you have for me are stronger than your desire to go back to Samantha." There was animosity in Elsa's tone at the mention of Samantha's name and Anna noticed.
"Okay, I understand. This isn't fair for you."
Neither of them commented on that again, not for a while at least. They supposed it was a good thing considering they'd be able to get some work out of the way but that event definitely gave Anna something to think about. She no longer felt as conflicted as before. She knew that what she really wanted to do was be with Elsa, but why was it so damn hard?
She felt like some part of her was afraid of losing her once they did manage to settle in a relationship, and somehow postponing that would delay whatever suffering waited for her. But it was true; she couldn't see herself waiting much longer. What had almost happened there in the office was proof that she wanted Elsa. She wanted Elsa and not just sexually but also mentally and spiritually; she wanted everything Elsa had to offer. The funny thing was that the only thing standing in her way of happiness was Anna herself. She needed to commit, and she needed to do it quick before Elsa could decide she no longer wanted this.
"Again, I feel like I should apologize for the impromptu invite," Hans pulled out the chair so that Elsa could sit.
"I think once is enough, and it's fine," the girl gave him a warm smile. As the day progressed, Elsa started to look forward to the lunch date with Hans. Not because she was interesting in him but rather because she wanted to know what he was up to.
"So what do you think, huh?" He looked around the place, forcing Elsa to follow suit.
"I honestly wasn't expecting this. Don't get me wrong, I actually like it." For some reason she expected Hans to be the type of person to eat out at fancy restaurants all the time, but a local place was definitely unexpected.
"I love this place," he sighed as if he suddenly had a memory, "their food reminds me so much of the meals my mother used to make."
"Used to?" Elsa asked, wanting to keep the conversation going but also quite intrigued.
"Well she still does but I don't have time to see my parents as much, what with my work schedule and all."
"Well, they must be proud."
"Oh they are. Listen not many people know this but," he stared down at his hands, not wanting to make eye contact. "-my parents are the reason I am who I am." He looked up at her, making sure he had her attention, "growing up, we had it pretty bad. My father tried to give my mother and I a better life but life was just tough. There were days when they would give up their food just so I could eat...," Elsa was staring at the most sincere eyes, she wasn't sure if it was just an act of if he was actually being honest. The way he was acting, it seemed like the latter. "Anyway, as I grew older and could finally help them financially, my mom would buy more groceries and make many more foods and we could just all eat together, you know? It was nice."
"They've inspired you," Elsa asserted.
"Mhm. Everything I do is for them. They managed to raise me and lead me to this point, the least I can do is make it easier for them."
"That's... That's admirable," Elsa took a sip of her drink.
"I like to think so. Buy anyway, tell me about you..."
"I'm not the type to talk about myself. Just ask what you want to know," she shrugged.
"Okay, well, let's start with your parents?"
Why do I have a feeling you already know about my parents..?
"I didn't have it as bad as you...well I didn't have it bad at all. My father is in business as well-"
Hans smiled and nodded. "Like father, like daughter."
"Not precisely..." She bit her lip, unsure.
"What do you mean?" There was concern in his eyes, as if he actually cared.
Should I be telling him all this?
"We have our differences," she decided to be vague about it.
"I see... And your mother?"
This was a topic that Elsa clearly didn't like, but she couldn't let Hans know that. If he had spoken to her father and if he knew she was an Arendelle, he obviously knew about her mother. Hans was the type of guy to do his research. "Better relationship than my father, although she passed away," was all she said.
"I apologize for bringing it up," he placed his hand atop Elsa's, who had to fight the urge to pull it away. She had to play Hans' game. Pretending to be oblivious was probably her best option right now, she'd figure something better later. First, she needed to gather evidence.
"What are you thinking about?" Anna asked. The girls were sitting in one of the picnic tables out by their residence hall. It had been a slow day and the last thing they wanted to do was go back into the dorm and stay in there for the rest of the day. Fresh air was much needed.
"Nothing," Elsa and Anna locked their eyes.
"You have your thinking face on...," the redhead insisted.
"Ha. Which one's that?"
"You do this thing where you stare down at the floor and make the most adorable pout."
"You've been staring a lot, huh?"
Anna blushed, "it's hard not to," The two girls were now red at the cheeks, "no but seriously, what are you thinking about?"
"Take a guess; you'll probably get it right."
"Ah, I see. Your father again?"
Elsa nodded, "yup. I also had the chance to talk to Hans today."
Anna made a face, she was obviously confused, "wait, what does Hans have to do with this?" Anna stared at Elsa but the blonde was staring elsewhere, behind her, probably into space.
"Oh, Anna. If you knew," they locked eyes again.
"Well, why don't you tell me?" She reached out for her bicep, encouraging her to keep talking.
"I would but it seems like you have someone here to see you," Elsa tilted her head towards the direction of Anna's back, motioning for her to look behind her.
She turned back and realized there was actually someone there for her. "What is Sam doing here?" She murmured to herself as she stood up and walked towards Samantha.
"Well, this certainly is a surprise."
"Yeah, sorry. Didn't know you had plans with Elsa...," Sam fidgeted with her hands.
"Oh, we were just talking. It's been a long day," Anna sighed.
"Then you don't mind if we head elsewhere?"
Anna hesitated, for what reason? She didn't know. "Sure let me just tell El-" she turned back to talk to Elsa but the blonde was no longer there.
Hmm. She must have headed upstairs. Should I go up and say something?
She didn't have to answer that question; Samantha was grabbing her by the hand and pulling her towards the car, "come on, it's late!"
AN: Let's see, I knew there was something important I had to say...
