"Have you had a chance to talk to your sister?"
Ygrette looked up from the papers she was staring at to look at her father. She had been sitting in his office since early morning and it barely occurred to him to bring up Elsa.
"She refuses to talk to me, you know that."
Her father didn't respond immediately. He had his back towards her, looking at the view the large window behind his desk offered. It wasn't until he thought of something proper to say that he turned to face Ygrette. "Some firms refuse to do business with me and yet look at all this," he extended his arms to prove his point.
"Father, you know how stubborn Els-" she was about to protest but thought better about it and swallowed the remaining of her words, earning her a wary look from Adgar.
"Look, you and I both know that you are good at what you do. You have proven to me that you're capable of conducting business better than some of my top employees here," he almost spat at the mention of other employees, "that's why I want you here. Sooner or later you will be in charge of all of this..." He took a pause, he needed to make Ygrette understand, "and if we want to do business with North Aim, we need to be smart about it. If Elsa knows what is going on in there, then the more successful we become."
Ygrette processed his words carefully and nodded. Her father was smart, she had always agreed with him but if he was implying that they might commit collusion, she wasn't sure she could agree. She knew for a fact that if Elsa found out, any hope they had of her to agree and work with them would go down the gutter. Elsa wasn't the type to do something that was unethical, much less a crime.
"You have to convince her," his words interrupted her thoughts, "she will be doing this whether she likes it or not, as will you. I didn't work all my life to build this empire just to have both of my daughters take it for granted."
There was no doubt as to whom Elsa had inherited her character from, but Ygrette had to find a way to convince her somehow, despite how badly she wanted to refuse Adgar. "Yes, father."
"The weekend couldn't have come any sooner," Elsa said as she tried to find something to wear.
"Because it's been a long week or because you've been looking forward to our date?" Anna was still lying in bed, she refused to get up until the room was completely lit up.
"Maybe both... Tell me, which looks better?" She extended both arms to show Anna what she was planning to wear. The redhead lifted her head and took a few moments before pointing to one of the tops. "You need to get up."
Anna sank bank into the plethora of pillows. "Why?"
"The faster you're ready, the faster we leave."
"Five more minutes. 'Sides, when have I kept you waiting?" The redhead proceeded to rub her eyes.
"When have you not?"
"Oh c'mon. It doesn't take me that long to get dressed, I already know what I'm wearing."
Elsa giggled, "sure but how long will it take you to fix your hair?" Anna frowned and pretended to be mad. "You're such a terrible liar, Anna."
"Well, we can't all be as perfect as you are, you know?" She kept her eyes closed, if it wasn't for Elsa talking to her, she would have probably fallen asleep again. It wasn't that early in the morning but perhaps the fact that it was a Saturday and her bed felt extra soft that morning made it harder for her to get up. She couldn't feel any more comfortable, that is until she felt Elsa jump on top of her. The unexpectedness caused her to open her eyes and find a certain blonde's face right in front of hers, her arms folded atop Anna's chest.
"Hi," Elsa smiled and looked into her eyes.
"Hi."
"You're perfect too."
"But you're something entirely different," Elsa opened her mouth to say something but Anna shook her head, "and let me guess, you won't get off me until I get up?"
"Correct."
"Need I inform you that I'm perfectly content with just staring at you for hours? Even more so if that means I'll have you on top of me?" She winked and it took a while for Elsa to offer a reaction. The blonde gasped incredulously and stood up, not before grabbing Anna by her hands and pulling her along. "Really Elsa? I said five minutes."
"Well you're not the only one who's stubborn. I also tend to get whatever I want." She kept pulling on the girl.
"Oh! So you must really want me, huh?" Anna kept mocking.
"What's with you and acting flirty today?"
"Maybe you're just extra beautiful this morning."
"And now you're just acting cheesy."
"Can you blame me?"
Elsa finally gave in and let Anna sink back into bed. "Fine then, I'll just go by myself."
"Fine. Have fun without me." Anna wondered whether either of them was going to give in into their little game. Would Elsa actually leave and have Anna follow immediately after her? Or would Elsa wait till Anna decided it was time to get up? She wanted to test the waters and see how far Elsa would go. A few seconds passed and she didn't hear the door being opened or closed, nor did she hear footsteps.
That's right! She still had her eyes closed and couldn't hide the amusement on her face, causing her lips to curve upwards. Then she finally heard the footsteps. Oh shit! She's actually going to leave without me...
Except the footsteps didn't get farther but actually closer and that didn't make any sense to the redhead, who had stopped smiling by now.
What is Elsa up t-?
She felt Elsa lips suddenly on hers.
Whaaaaaaaat?!
The blonde continued and only broke their kiss momentarily to whisper, "so that's how it's going to be, huh?"
Anna didn't say anything she only half smiled, too taken aback by Elsa's spontaneity. She wondered whether Elsa was doing it to persuade her and if so, she was falling into the trap. But maybe she just needed to play her own game, so she deepened the kiss and pulled Elsa closer to her, she didn't put up a fight, again much to her surprise. But what Elsa did next was even more unbelievable. The blonde took the hem of Anna's shirt and pulled it towards her chest. She then rubbed her fingers slowly towards and under her panty line. Anna was practically screaming, internally at least, considering she wasn't even able to form coherent thoughts. She was enjoying herself too much, but unfortunately for her, Elsa pulled back and Anna finally opened her eyes.
Elsa stood by her bed, arms crossed and a triumphant smile on her face. "Get up for me, will you?"
And with that, Anna couldn't refuse.
Well damn, that was hot.
They had driven for almost half an hour, or so Anna thought. They had stopped to get breakfast at IHOP after Elsa insisted that they needed breakfast and were now on their way to an undisclosed location. Elsa had said that she needed Anna to accompany her some place before their date and Anna agreed, not questioning her motives or the location. It didn't even occur to her to ask, whatever it was, she trusted Elsa. But now, as they were pulling farther and farther away from campus and recognized the path they were taking, she began to wonder if they were heading back to Adgar's estate.
"Don't worry, we're not heading there," Elsa commented, as if reading her mind.
"How...how did you know?"
"You had this look on your face." She reached towards Anna to pinch her left cheek.
"Are you really going to keep doing that?"
"Does it bother you?" She pulled her arm back.
"Not at all, I'm just curious as to why you do it."
"I guess I can't help myself, it's an impulse."
Anna chuckled, "alright, whatever you say. So where are we heading anyway? You never did really tell me the place."
"Places," Elsa said.
"Oh?"
The blonde smiled, "I'm not telling you anything, you'll see. In fact, here we are." She made a left turn. Anna noticed the lack of houses around, almost everything was covered in grass and they were now entering a gated area.
"A cemetery?" Anna was beginning to understand even after she asked the question.
Elsa nodded and pursed her lips. They kept driving slowly and finally parked some place deep into the small road. They both got out of the car without saying a word; Anna just followed Elsa's lead, eventually catching up to her and holding her hand.
"Today is the anniversary of her death," Elsa breathless comment came out as a whisper. They were now standing in front of a tombstone, it was simple and well kept and for some reason there was a handful of fresh flowers on it. Anna figured either Adgar or Ygrette must have visited earlier.
The redhead took the liberty of rubbing her arm on Elsa's shoulder and the blonde looked down at her and smiled, "I'm sorry for bringing you along with no previous notice but I really needed to bring someone who means so much to me. I can't do this alone anymore."
"It's okay Elsa, it really is. You know I would have insisted on coming even if you hadn't asked."
"Thank you," Elsa said and by the timbre of her voice and the wetness on her cheek, Anna knew the girl was on the verge of tears.
"Hey now... I know this must be a hard day for you... Remembering what happened and blaming yourself but what about the happy moments? You must have a lot of stories of you and your mother, right?" Elsa nodded, "well, let's focus on those. What's the happiest memory you have of her?"
Elsa thought about it. She wasn't sure if going down memory lane would be a good idea, but she trusted Anna's advice and she followed suit. "Life has a funny way of teaching you things, I guess. I always thought my mom wanted to run my life, even as a little girl. Sure we spent so much time together but she always had me doing things I didn't quite enjoy. She made me join a ballet club, and then there was piano. Those were things I did for her and I wasn't happy because I liked doing those things, I was happy because I was making her proud but... I remember there were times when I hated doing such things and I hated the fact that she had to remind me why I was doing them." She swallowed, "now... I would give anything to have her tell me what to do, to give me advice. She's the only one who can really do that. She's was the only one I had for a time. I can still hear her voice clearly in my head telling me to sit properly and I guess even though at the time I hated that she made me do some things, I always knew she cared. I miss that feeling most of all." She sighed and smiled.
"Elsa..." Anna started but was interrupted.
"You know what the worst part is? Even after her death and all the pain it brought me, I could have used that experience to become a better person... But I didn't, I just became cold and distant towards people, using them as I saw fit."
"Okay stop," Anna held the blonde's jaw, forcing her to stare down to her eyes, "sure, you were..."
"A bitch."
Anna tilted her head and gave her a look, "but you're not that person anymore, Elsa. Look at you, you've changed."
"I've changed because of you..." Elsa reached up to grab a strand of red hair and twirled it around her fingers, "you're the reason I no longer wake up in a bad mood in the mornings."
"Regardless, don't you think she would be proud to see her daughter doing so well in everything that she does?"
They spent about an hour or so like that. Elsa never thought she would reveal so much of her life or her mother's to anyone, much less Anna. But the redhead seemed so understanding and encouraging that it made her feel at ease. She had hesitated into putting the plan into action when the idea first crossed her mind, but now that Anna was here, comforting her, she had to admit that it wasn't such a bad plan after all.
"We should go, it's almost noon and we have many things to do today," Elsa stood up and Anna followed.
"Are you going to reveal the second mystery place?"
"Hmm. I'm not sure."
"Is it far from here?"
"Somewhat," Elsa looked back, eyeing the redhead.
"Can you give me any hints?"
"Are you going to stop asking if I don't?" Anna shook her head, "ugh, fine. Get in the car."
"Really, Elsa? You can't be that easily convinced, you know?" Anna joked and Elsa elbowed her for the remark.
"Wow Elsa, this place is amazing," Anna twirled around in circles trying to take everything in. Elsa's apartment was amazing. She sighed then she stopped and put up a pout.
"Something wrong?" Elsa was amused; she would never get tired of seeing Anna this way, just like a little kid on Christmas morning.
"Well no... it's just... I really wanted to surprise you today but it's going to be really hard to do that if you're the one surprising me..." She frowned.
"This isn't really a surprise, Anna. I just wanted to show you around. You know I'll enjoy whatever you have planned, hell you can even take me to the park and I won't mind. As long as I get to spend the day with you, I'll be happy."
Anna thought about it then smiled, "you really think I would take you to the park? I feel so insulted right now." She ran the back of her hand across her forehead dramatically.
Elsa hid her giggle and shook her head, "have you ever thought about becoming an actress?"
"Not really, you did say I was a terrible liar earlier."
"Yes, you're honest but that doesn't mean you can't act." She walked towards Anna, grabbed her shoulders and pushed her to a seat. "You seem too hyper right now."
"How can I not be? Look at this place, why would you choose to live in a dorm when you have this amazing place, Elsa? Yeah, yeah I know you mentioned traffic and all that but seriously?" Elsa gave her a look. "Alright, alright. I'll stop talking about it now."
Elsa looked at her watch and then back up at Anna who was already staring at her. "So, what's a good time for whatever you have planned?"
"Oh, don't worry. We still have about two hours max."
"I find it unfair that you can get everything out of me and yet you still won't tell me what you have planned for our date."
"It's not unfair at all, I'm just not as easily convinced as you are. So tell me, are you going to move back into your apartment junior year?"
Elsa shook her head, "stop trying to change the subject, Anna. Maybe I can get it out of you after all."
"You can try but you won't succeed," she had a smirk on her face.
"Is that a challenge?"
"Well, you do love challenges don't you? Besides, you're not getting anything out of me. You won't know what I have planned till we're there." She folded her arms across her chest and inhaled, trying to seem serious.
"Oh, Anna. You say you're not easily convinced and yet I managed to convince you to come with me this morning..." She raised her eyebrow.
Anna pointed and shook her index finger at her, "that wasn't fair and you know it."
"Totally fair."
"Nuh-uh! I can't resist you and you used that to your advantage."
Elsa laughed, "that doesn't make it unfair but thanks for confirming your weakness to me." Anna winked at her. They remained like that for a few minutes, both comfortably content and going through their thoughts. "I forgot to tell you," Elsa spoke, suddenly remembering something.
"Forgot to tell me what?"
"North Aim is having a Christmas Ball this coming Friday." Anna stared at her, not saying anything, or rather, not knowing what to say. "We should go," Elsa commented.
"We should, it sounds like fun. Believe it or not, I'm going to miss that place even though I hated waking up in the mornings."
"You hate waking up no matter what..."
"Good point. I could even take a nap right now." She yawned.
"Then we should get going before that happens, come on." Elsa pulled the redhead's hand along with her until they reached the door.
She didn't really know what to expect. Something fun for sure, Anna was always fun. Various ideas had run through her head as they drove to the location. An amusement park, some activity near the beach perhaps, maybe even something as simple as dinner and a movie but as she stood there, staring at the billboard, all she could think about was how insane Anna really was.
No wonder she didn't want to tell me anything...
"Are you coming?" Anna was a few feet ahead of her and stopped to turn around and look at the blonde.
"Um... yeah, yes." She kept fidgeting with her hands and Anna noticed so she walked back to her.
"You told me you weren't scared of heights, did you change your mind?" She looked worried.
"Anna, heights I'm not afraid of. Jumping out of a plane is something I haven't done before."
"I've never done it before either, but doesn't it look fun?!"
"Sure, Anna," Elsa walked towards the building. "Just make sure my tombstone reads that I died when my girlfr- I mean... that I died skydiving!" Careful Elsa, what was that?
Anna narrowed her eyes, shrugged and followed the blonde. They entered the building which seemed to be well lit and will conditioned, white, blue and yellow covered the walls and the front desk. Elsa thought she'd have more time to get accustomed to the place, to perhaps change her mind but the next thing she knew, Anna was already talking to the lady in the front desk.
No later they were in what Elsa assumed to be the back of the building. They had been taken down a hall, taken a few turns here and there until they were lead into a room with lockers and equipment.
"This seems more complicated than I originally thought," the blonde said while she tried to put on her jumpsuit and the rest of the gear.
"It's all worth it though, you'll see."
"Ugh, let's get this over with, I suppose."
They walked out of the building through one of the back doors where three staff members were already waiting for them. Two were wearing a red jumpsuit while the other, who seemed to be the more experienced one, was wearing a blue one.
"Ladies," he nodded. "You have the option to do this tandem, with one of our professionals here, or solo, which I only recommend if you have experience so-"
"Tandem, definitely tandem." Elsa interrupted before Anna had a chance to say anything.
"Well okay then. Now, there is nothing difficult about skydiving. Getting ready for the jump is actually more time consuming than the jump itself. My words of advice are to be prepared for noise, be prepared for wind and most importantly, don't be scared of the jump. It's going to happen, either you will jump or someone will push you into jumping. Capisce?" They both nodded, Anna obviously more enthusiastic than Elsa.
The three men and the two girls got into the small plane and in no time they were a few feet off land, although the distance kept increasing dramatically, much to Elsa's dismay.
Just get it over with! The faster, the better. She kept telling herself.
The few minutes that passed seemed like eternity. She was too distracted by looking through the small windows and prepping herself for the jump that she didn't pay attention to a single word Anna was trying to tell her. The two guys got up and stood by the door, she noticed Anna murmur something to one of them. The taller one nodded and gave her a thumbs up. Soon enough, the door was down and Elsa couldn't begin to describe the loud noise of air coming in, nor the way the pressure felt on her. She was motioned to stand in front, and although she followed the directions, she was sure that the expression of distaste was read well across her face.
Anna looked back at her, wide teal eyes and a smile. Elsa returned the smile, trying to take worry away from the girl's eyes, it had been her idea after all, she didn't want to disappoint her. She then looked at the view, it was amazing and again, indescribable. No matter how scared she was, she was definitely enjoying what she was looking at.
Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted two bulges going down; Anna had already jumped. She took a few seconds to determine when would be the appropriate time for her to do so but after deciding that she was over thinking it, she just went for it. The first few seconds were a little scary, she had to admit. The feeling of free falling made her body shiver as she felt the rush on her face and nothing to hold on to. It was like one of those dreams where she felt as if she was falling and her body shook during her sleep. Fortunately for her, that lasted shorter than what she had anticipated and she kind of missed the feeling of thrill she had experienced during the jump.
Her heart skipped a few beats when she and the professional she was with began spiraling out of control, she was sure she heard herself scream for a moment or two. Soon enough they managed to recover and once she settled, the remaining seconds of the fall felt like absolute bliss. She couldn't believe she was actually enjoying herself; that was as close as she would get to flying and it was phenomenal.
The green and yellow pieces of land down below began to look more like what they were and the roads more noticeable. She knew the parachute had been opened when she felt the force of air resistance pull her up momentarily. The guide had been right, that lasted shorter than she expected but she was sure the adrenaline rush would last probably the whole day. Anna landed first; she noticed two bodies a few feet away. Once the guy behind her finally removed the final belt attaching them together, she could do nothing but run towards the redhead.
"Woah..." Anna was taken by surprise. Not only had she scratched and item off her bucket list but by the way Elsa was running towards her, the huge grin on her face and finally, the way the blonde's arms wrapped around her, the blonde had apparently also had a good time.
"Let's do that again." The blonde exclaimed, obviously too excited.
"Again?" Anna gasped, she couldn't believe it.
"Not today, silly. Another time." Anna sighed, relieved. She was only glad Elsa had actually enjoyed it, she couldn't take her eyes off her. She smiled to herself, she had so many reasons to smile now. First, things were progressing with Elsa; she was closer to her than ever before. Second, Elsa seemed to be noticing that as well and she wasn't fighting what seemed to be inevitable; their chemistry. Third, and perhaps the most important, Elsa was showing her another side that she didn't think she was capable of. She never stopped surprising her and she felt herself growing much more attached to the blonde, if that was even possible.
"Did you like it that much?"
"It was unbelievable..." Elsa was staring at the sky, "it's definitely something I won't forget."
"Well, yeah you won't. I recorded the whole thing." Anna threw a smile at her.
"You what?!" Elsa looked at her with wide eyes.
Anna couldn't hide her laughter, "I recorded you screaming and flipping midair."
You little... "I see how it is, Anna. I'll get my revenge." She winked at the redhead.
