HI! So I was reviewing a lot of my old chapters (namely Pitch's Passion) and I realize that it has been a long time since we have had any real Cavity!
"Why don't you take a seat here?"
Toothiana led their new guest to a chair in their family room, a bright smile decorating her features, and Sabine could help but smile in reply "Thank you," she murmured "I appreciate the kindness you are all showing me."
"Oh it's no problem at all," Tooth chirped happily "any friend of Aster's is a friend of ours, besides considering the situation, I think it is best that you be with us."
"What do you mean, considering the situation?" the female Pooka asked quietly her brow furrowed in confusion.
"Uh…" the fairy stammered before turning to North and the large man merely shrugged "Well, I mean, considering you're so far from home and in a completely different world I'm sure you must feel isolated not to mention anxious. Isn't it better to be among kind people when you feel like that?"
Sabine pursed her lips thoughtfully and Toothiana melted into a nervous tizzy, fluttering out of the room while calling over her shoulder "I'm going to go check on the kitchen and see about getting us a pot of tea!"
The fairy rushed through the door and out into the hallway before a sigh of relief rushed from her lungs in a gale of wind. Falling against the wall, Tooth fanned herself with one hand "Bravo, Toothiana," she muttered drily "your narrow escapes never cease to amaze me,"
Rolling her eyes, the woman flitted to the kitchens, her eyes heavy with worry. To be honest she was more than a little concerned about Bunny, especially with this latest development. She didn't quite know what to make of it, but Tooth felt a fluttering in her chest, like this was the start of something huge. It could go one of two ways really, she knew it could go horribly wrong and destroy all the hard work they had put into Aster feeling secure in this family, or it could be the thing that finally fills that gnawing void tormenting the Pooka.
Landing lightly on her toes, the fairy walked into the Kitchen to find Pitch standing at the stove, a radio tuned to the Broadway channel, humming softly as he danced in time to the music. Tooth smothered a soft giggle at the image, her lavender eyes sparkling as she watched the grey hands fly preparing a tea tray, and a pot was sitting on a merry fire over the stove, while small plates and a dish of dainty pastries set on the tray.
"I'm marching my band out, I'll beat my drum," Pitch sang "and if I'm fanned out, your turn at bat sir, at least I didn't fake it, hat sir. Guess I didn't make it, but whether I'm the rose of sheer perfection, the freckle on the nose of life's complexion, the cinder or the shiny apple of its eye. I've gotta fly once, I gotta try once, only can die once, right sir?"
"Oh life is juicy, juicy and you see," Tooth cut in, her sweet soprano echoing in the empty kitchen making the boogeyman jump with an undignified yelp "I gotta have my bite sir!"
Pitch smirked nodding his head "Get ready for me love, 'cuz I'm a comer,"
"I've simply gotta march, my hearts a drummer!" Toothiana added in.
Then the two met in the middle both singing loudly "Nobody, no nobody is gonna rain on my parade!"
Pitch smiled, finding it increasingly easier to do so, especially when a certain fairy was involved. Tooth giggled, feeling her cheeks heat up and her heart start thundering in her chest at the way he was looking at her. Stepping closer, the Boogeyman leaned against the countertop, his gaze soft, making his formerly intimidating and fearsome features now gentle and tender.
"Never took you for one who enjoyed show tunes," the fairy teased softly, lavender eyes sparkling with mischief.
"There are a few things that you don't know about me," Pitch hummed.
"I'm learning that," the fairy murmured her mouth stretching in a wider grin.
The dark specter opened his mouth "Toothiana, your teeth are amazing," suddenly he began to splutter as his mind blanked from the shock of what he just said "I mean…of course they're amazing, you're the Tooth Fairy…but yours are…"
Pitch let an uncomfortable cough as Tooth blushed "We seem to be getting a little mixed up," she almost whispered.
Suddenly the loud song previously playing ended and Pitch perked his ears at the familiar show tune, famous from the musical White Christmas, began its soft lilt and a new sense of bravery overtook the Boogeyman. Giving a chuckle, he reached out and took her delicate hand, pulling her against his chest.
"Maybe it's the music," he softly returned swaying in time to the song.
Tooth turned soft eyes to the man who had neatly taken a large chunk of her heart without her even noticing "Maybe it isn't only the music,"
Soon the couple was dancing around the kitchen as Danny Kaye crooned over the radio.
The best things
Happen while you're dancing
Things that you would not do at home come naturally on the floor
For dancing
Soon becomes romancing
When you hold a girl in your arms that you've never heldbefore
Pitch gave Toothiana a twirl, before bringing her close again, their feet stepping in a graceful waltz. The fairy's eyes were wide with the realization that Pitch could dance, but she didn't let the shock linger for long, and instead relaxed in his arms, allowing herself to become lost in the music.
Even guys with two left feet
Come out all right if the girl is sweet
If by chance their cheeks should meet
While dancing
Proving that the best things happen when you dance
The song hit an instrumental and soon the duo were whirling and spinning around the kitchen, Pitch pulling Tooth out before twirling her tucked into his arms and swooping her around in a smooth dip. The fairy laughed at the sheer insanity of dancing with the Boogeyman, but she didn't dare stop, no she was enjoying herself far too much as it was. Gradually the tempo slowed, and they simply were swaying back and forth, reveling in the feel of holding each other in their arms, while Pitch softly hummed occasionally singing snatches of the song along with the still playing radio.
"The best things, happen while you're dancing," the man murmured his golden gaze hopelessly lost in Arabian silk "things that you would not do at home come naturally on the floor,"
"Because dancing," Tooth joined in, her singing barely above a whisper though she was certain Pitch could feel her heart beating through his shirt "soon becomes romancing, when you've held a guy in your arms, that you've never held before."
Pitch smirked at her subtle word change, but was stopped short when the fairy gave a sigh of contentment before laying her head on his shoulder "I never knew you could dance,"
"Well, I've had plenty of time to practice," Pitch chuckled.
Tooth's eyes fluttered closed in rapture at the fascinating way his deep voice laced by a British tone vibrated through his chest, with a shocking realization on how that one small thing made her feel strangely safe and secure. She couldn't explain it, but there was something about him that made her feel like she had found her own version of a prince. True he was no Prince Eric, or like any other Disney Prince, but in a way he kind of was. He was always a gentleman to her, kind and sweet, but he never made her feel like an object to be bartered and traded away to the highest bidder. He made her feel special.
"You know this is becoming an increasingly dangerous situation," Pitch murmured.
"And why is that?" Tooth replied never opening her eyes.
She listened to the man give a heavy gulp "Because," he whispered "if we continue dancing, I may never let go, and I'm not sure my heart could take it if it comes to that and I eventually am forced to release you."
"What if…" Tooth snapped her head up, lavender eyes melting with honey as she queried breathlessly "what if I don't…want to be let go?"
Pitch felt his breath catch in his throat and his already thundering heart skip a beat "Surely," he rasped around a suddenly thick throat "you don't what know what you mean by saying that?"
"I think I know exactly what I'm saying," Tooth whispered "and the meaning behind my words."
"But you're saying them to me," the slightest tremor ran through his hands not unnoticed by the fairy "are you sure that that is wise?"
Tooth leaned forward, hovering over his lips answer in a fluttering breath "I've known for quite some time now, I only wish I'd acted on it sooner."
Pitch's eyes grew wide as she clenched the front of his trench coat in her small fists using it to pull him down and claim his lips in a kiss as gentle and fragile as a hummingbird's wing. His hands were shaking, and his body tense, shock sending his brain into tumbling spirals. He was unable to respond, so startled by the fact that the Tooth Fairy had just done the very thing he had been thinking of/dreaming about/planning/hoping to happen for years. However even as he berated himself for being an insensitive brute by not giving his reply to the woman so courageously showing her feelings, his body refused to cooperate, keeping him firmly in the impeccable impersonation of a stone statue.
Tooth held the kiss for just a few seconds before drawing away, smiling softly, though her gaze was now burdened with an inexplicable sorrow while her shoulders slumped with an air of dejected defeat. Releasing the man, Tooth took a breath, almost as if she were fighting against the urge to cry, and turned to face the door "Good night Pitch,"
The Boogeyman felt his jaw drop as he watched what was surely his very last chance he would ever have at winning Tooth's heart approach the door, and suddenly an icy fear that was deeper than anything he had ever personally crafted clenched his heart in icy chains that bit and stung, promising eternal misery should he let this precious once in a lifetime opportunity pass by without seizing it.
In a move that was powered by desperation, and a heart crying out to heal the hurt he had unintentionally caused on the woman who haunted his every thought and dream from the first time they had spoken as equals in the theatre, he lunged forward and caught Toothiana by the wrist causing her to whirl around and face him. The fairy slowly brought tear filled lavender eyes, melting Pitch's heart with their brokenness, and the unspoken question silent on her lips but haunted her Arabian silk gaze.
With tenderness that Pitch had never thought himself capable of, he drew her close, and cupped her cheek in her hands "Now you've done it," he chuckled breathlessly "I can never let you go now, because I am, now and forever, only yours."
A tear trailed down her silken cheek as her breath hitched from the effort it took not to melt in uncontrollable sobs, and the specter leaned down to kiss it away, drawing away to look her directly in the eye before claiming her lips.
Tooth's eyes fluttered closed, and her arms slowly wrapped themselves around Pitch's neck pulling him closer to deepen the kiss, and both of them sighed in the kiss as their hearts connected and fireworks burst inside their chest and eyes. They clung to one another, as if now that they had finally joined in their first real kiss, letting go would mean certain death. They drank deeply, memorizing each other's scent, taste, and lips until they finally had to part.
Tooth hung there, held steady by Pitch's strong arms, her head still tilted and eyes still closed in a daze before she finally dared a peek at Pitch "Do you promise?"
The Boogeyman felt his heart burst with sheer indescribable joy as he smiled gently at the woman who had well and truly stolen his heart "Yes, I promise, I'll never leave your side."
"Good," and with that Tooth sealed their promise with a kiss.
Later on as she sat in the living room, snug in the arms of the man she adored, Tooth would feel slightly guilty for having this beautiful moment in the middle of a genuine emergency but then she would look at the peace and contentment smoothing out Pitch's face and the guilt would wash away. Because after all, if you don't take a chance for happiness when you are given it even in spite of current circumstances, then you may never get it and Tooth never wanted to trade the wonderful joy and precious memories she now carried of a certain Boogeyman.
Are you happy Mystic? Was this what you guys were hoping for and waiting for? I hope I did your expectation justice and gave you a scene that rivaled what you wanted.
