Merida lowered her hood. The few orange curls that were peeking around it were pulled back into place as she peered around the corner. The guards protecting the boarder were still in place, looking as grim as ever. They were not characters; they were created to keep them from crossing the wall, or running outside the boundaries. She only had a few minutes but it was all she needed. When the guards changed, every 12 hours, she had exactly three seconds to run, jump a barb wire fence and escape. Sure, she would probably come back by the end of a few hours but right now, she needed to know what was behind those guards and what lay deep in the shadows. One guard shuffled. Here we go, Merida thought. Three, two…. The guards moved all at once, and with bow in hand, she sprinted. She had discarded her shoes, afraid they would slow her down. The shadowy abyss lay only a few steps away when she heard her name.
"Merida, where are you?" Rapunzel whispered. Merida immediately stopped. The guards quickly formed a new line, her opportunity lost. She turned around seeing her blond friend peering around the corner of the bakery. It was not like Rapunzel to be out at sunset. She didn't usually like it when the villains came out, the only exception being to buy the best bread before the sun came up. You see, when the 'mains' (main character or hero of said story) woke up, the villains saw nightfall. It was a way to keep every-one acquaintances. Some Disney magic made the villains see night when the heroes saw day. Just like the magic that made Rapunzel's brown hair grow out into the lovely blond mass it is, every time she steps outside the elevator.
"What is it Rapunzel?! I was nearly there when you distracted me!" Merida said, though she was more worried about why her goody-two-shoes friend was out after dark. Gothel was as creepy as she is in the film when she is around, and Merida knows Rapunzel hates it when she strokes her hair from behind.
"I need to show you something, meet me at the wall."
Now Merida knew something was up. Rapunzel never met up at the wall. It scared her to think that there was another civilization over there. Or at least, that is what she thought…
At the wall, Merida saw Rapunzel. She was her usual happy and bubbly self, which made the situation all the more confusing.
"I thought you hated the wall." Merida said bluntly, her Scottish accent echoing back at her.
"I know, I know, but I have made some new friends and know it isn't that scary, you see…"
"Get on with it!"
With that, Rapunzel held two fingers to her lips and let out a piercing whistle.
"Jack are you sure-"Hiccup started He wasn't happy about this arrangement, not happy at all.
"Look, we've been over this! When Rapunzel whistles, we fly over the wall and meet her friend. Come on Hiccup don't be a baby! You are just scared 'cause the evils are coming out!"
Jack scanned the area. The evils of each story were just waking up, for they see day when the goods see night.
"Am not! You are just following this plan 'because you have a crush on the pretty blond!"
"Hey! Her name is Rapunzel, and I do not have a crush on her!" Jack spat back, blush spreading on his cheeks.
"Oh, yeah, sure you don't! The pleasure is all mine! Kiss, kiss, kiss." Hiccup laughed at him, making kissing sounds and poking him teasingly.
"Shut up, we will miss the signal."
The whistle came and after a quick check of the perimeter, the two flew over the wall. After landing heavily in two very strategically placed bushes, the pair brushed themselves down to find Rapunzel and a very astounded looking red head. Jack looked over at Hiccup, whose jaw had dropped when he laid eyes on the new girl. Jack closed it for him.
"This is Merida. Merida this is-"
"Jack Frost and Hiccup Haddock." Merida was the one who had a dropped jaw now.
"Sorry about the villains-" Rapunzel started.
"You mean evils." Jack said with a smirk.
Rapunzel blushed but Merida spoke first. "We have a lot to talk about."
