Hey y'all! So, I know that I haven't updated in about nine months, but I am back now to finish this fanfic once and for all. I am pretty certain that this is the second to last chapter which I guess kind of means that this is the last chapter before the epilogue. I am very happy to see that I have finally been able to finish this, or am close to finishing it.
I would like to thank Ashley for the photo of Klaus and Caroline that I am using as a cover now :)
Enjoy!
The crowd stood around with their jaws dropped slightly and the blonde looked over at her Original lover with disbelief in her bright blue eyes.
"We might become parents." She told him, the disbelief evident in her voice.
"I- I know," he stammered as he bit down on his bottom lip.
"Well, it seems like I may finally become an uncle!" Kol told them, a big smile on his face. "I always did want a nephew that I could spoil and turn to the dark side.
"You will go no where near our child with that attitude." Klaus snapped as his eyes narrowed and he stared down his little brother.
"Klaus, not now." Caroline said, her voice barely above a whisper.
"You are upset." He realized and she noted the hurt tone in his voice.
"I- no," she shook her head. "I just never thought that it would be possible... Not after I was turned."
"And if you were to know that there was a possibility, would you sleep with me then?" He asked, even though he knew that it would be wise if they didn't have an audience surrounding them.
"Klaus..." She sighed.
"You're upset," he repeated, his tone flat.
"I'm not," she shook her head. "I don't regret what we did, but I don't know if what we have will work... I understand that we are probably mates, but still..."
"But still, what?" He questioned.
When the blonde didn't respond he exhaled a loud sigh before he turned his attention towards the Bennett witch.
"Bonnie," he said. "If you would do us the honors of freeing us, that would be lovely."
"I need your word." She told him immediately and Kol chuckled as he shook his head and watched the beautiful witch with a hunger in his eyes.
"My word, on what exactly?" He questioned.
"I need your word that you will not hurt anybody once I set you free."
"Fine," he shrugged. "I give you my word that I will not hurt anybody...for now."
"For now?" She said as she shook her head. "I need your word that you will not hurt anybody here ever."
"I don't know..." His voice drifted off.
"Just agree to her terms, Klaus." Caroline hissed, the annoyance evident in her voice.
"And if I don't?" The Original asked as he faced his mate with his lips in a thin line.
"She will let me go and I will leave you."
"Even if you carry our child?"
"Even then," she nodded even though she didn't want to.
"Perhaps I shouldn't give my word to your dear friend then, love... Obviously, you do not want me to be apart of your life or the life of the child you may be carrying at this very moment."
"You don't get it!" She cried out. "This has nothing to do with you even though it may be hard to believe. I saw another side of you these past couple of days and I am not afraid to admit that I fell for you, but if you continue acting like you are right now, I will leave for sure and I will not look back."
"I will find you." He told her. "You realize that, don't you? We're connected in a way that nobody else is in this room. We are destined for each other whether you like it or not."
"Brother," Elijah said, interrupting his conversation with Caroline.
Klaus turned to Elijah with confusion in his stormy blur-gray eyes and he realized that his older brother was pleading with him to accept that witch's terms.
With a sigh, he turned to Bonnie again and simply nodded.
"I need your word, but you must speak it."
"I give you my word that when you set me and my future wife free, I will leave all of your friends alone and be on my merry way."
Bonnie nodded and Klaus looked over to see Caroline's reaction. Her eyes were wide and her jaw dropped slightly as she looked into his eyes to see if he was telling the truth.
Before he could ask her if she believed him, Bonnie began to speak Latin and before they knew it, the barrier was no longer there.
"We're free," Caroline said as a smile appeared on her lips.
"You are," Bonnie nodded as she smiled at her best friend before she turned to face everybody else.
Klaus walked over to Caroline and he reached for her hand.
"If everybody would clear out, that would be nice." Bonnie told them all.
"Bonnie, are you seriously not going to do anything? We have a chance to kill him!" The doppelgänger whined as she stepped forward.
Caroline's eyes darkened before she moved in front of Klaus and glared the brunette down.
"Don't you dare touch him, Elena." She hissed as her hands clenched into fists.
Klaus smiled and he came up behind her before he wrapped his arms around her front and pulled her flush against his chest.
Caroline exhaled happily and Klaus couldn't believe that she was still there with him.
She wasn't going to leave me, after all! He thought, happily.
"How are you even on his side, right now, Caroline?" She asked as she narrowed her eyes at the blonde. "I know that you slept with whoever showed you the slightest attention when you were human, but now that you're a vampire I thought you would be wiser."
"Oh, so I sleep with whoever shows me attention, do I?" She questioned as she saw red when she looked at her supposed best friend. "How about you, Elena? Last time I checked you slept with two brothers and that fucked up their relationship."
"Oh, please." She said. "They got over it and don't act like the angel that you're not... I'm sure that in a couple of years when you're tired of your "mate" you'll sleep with his brothers."
"Enough!" Klaus shouted as he eyed the doppelgänger with such hate that it was almost tangible. "Say another word and I will kill you no matter my word to your witch friend."
"Elena, you have to relax." Stefan told her as he stepped up behind her and put his hands on her shoulders.
"Relax?" She questioned. "Why should I when the Original has found happiness and I haven't? Do you know how much I had to go through?"
Klaus burst out laughing and Caroline looked back at him with confusion in her bright blue eyes.
"Because, sweetheart… Apparently, Elena went through a bunch of stuff in her short life. It isn't like my siblings and I went through a bunch of bloody shit in our one thousand years."
"Klaus, stop." Caroline said. "She lost her parents, her aunt…"
"The aunt that I killed." He admitted as he shook his head.
"Yes," Elena snapped. "You killed Jenna and Caroline I hope that you remember that he was going to kill you."
"I didn't know Caroline at the time, but rest assured, Miss Gilbert… I would not have killed her when I saw her."
"Not even to break the curse?" Rebekah asked, genuinely curious.
"Not even then." He shook his head. "There would be a full moon the next month, but if I was to kill Caroline, I would never have found my mate and then I would never forgive myself for that."
"Klaus, let's be honest here." Caroline told him as she shifted from one foot to the other. "Back then you weren't the man that you are today."
"I know," he sighed heavily. "But I wouldn't have killed you."
"So how about we see what would occur if that was the case." Bonnie said.
"What do you mean?" Caroline asked as her eyebrows furrowed in curiosity and Klaus nodded in agreement.
"If Tamera doesn't mind, we can turn back time and make it seem like it is in a dream state... There, we can see what would occur if Caroline was never set free."
"Caroline?" Klaus said. "Do you mind?"
"No," she shook her head. "It's safe, though, right?"
"Perfectly safe." She nodded.
"Very well," Tamera smiled. "Let us do it, dear." She told Bonnie.
Bonnie smiled at her and then told the others that they had to leave.
"Why can't we stay?" Kol questioned as he crossed his arms over his chest.
"Tamera and I can only handle two people to go back. Those two people are Klaus and Caroline and Tamera and I will be watching."
"Oh," he said. "Are you going to tell us the truth?"
"I have a feeling that I won't have to." Bonnie told him and the others nodded before they filed out of the living room and onto the porch because it was a beautiful day with the sun shining down on them brightly and the skies as clear as the water in a waterfall.
Once there were only four of them in the living room, Tamera reached for their hands and led them to the couch. They sat side by side and held hands.
"Now, you two are going to have to shut your eyes because in a few seconds, sleep will overwhelm you."
They shut their eyes and Bonnie nodded at Tamera before they joined their hands.
They stood directly in front of Klaus and Caroline and began chanting.
Two years ago:
The Original Vampire paced the teacher's apartment and ran his fingers through his dirty blonde curls in an attempt to calm the anticipation within him. In just one hour, he would unlock the curse that his bitch of a mother put on him when he was first turned.
Very soon, he would be the most powerful being on the planet and would be able to do anything that he pleased.
The witch that was on his side approached him and she wasn't smiling like usual.
"There is a problem, I take it?" He guessed as his hands clenched into fists.
"The werewolf has been set free." She told him.
"And the vampire?" He wondered as he bit down on his bottom lip.
"The vampire is still there."
"Very good," he smiled. "Now, have Max find another werewolf and then meet me at the clearing. Make sure that the vampire is guarded. I do not want to have to wait another month to achieve this spell."
"Of course," she nodded, bowing slightly before she left him alone.
Caroline tried to set herself free without much success. No matter how hard she pulled on the chains, they wouldn't budge. With a sigh, she realized that the chains were most likely spelled.
It appeared that her eternal life was going to come to an end very soon.
She thought about Tyler because she knew that he was in the other cave, most likely chained up. Although, now she wasn't so sure considering that he ceased to scream about one hour ago.
Maybe their captors knocked him out...
Even though Caroline knew that it was not good to feel relief knowing that she wasn't the only one in this situation, she did.
Before she could dwell on the fact any further, she heard footsteps and immediately tensed because she was not ready to die. After all, she barely even lived!
"Ready to die, Blondie?" The woman questioned as she approached her with her hand outstretched.
"You have to let me go! Please, I am begging you. I do not know what it is that you want from me, but I am sure you can find somebody else. I was just turned a couple of months ago! Please, you cannot let me die. I have barely even lived." She finished as her hands began to tremble.
"Your crying is not going to change any of this, I assure you." The girl that seemed to be just a couple of years older than her said.
"At least let me say goodbye to the people that I care about… Don't you have family? Wouldn't they be devastated to find out that the person that they loved was no longer alive and they couldn't even say goodbye?"
"Maybe in your next life you'll become a poet because you do have a way with words, but I am not going to set you free. My life is at stake here and if it ever came down to my life over yours, I would choose my own."
"I understand," she admitted before she looked down.
"Good," she smiled before she snapped her fingers. The chains fell to the floor and Caroline jumped up as she massaged her wrists.
"Don't think of running, Caroline."
"You know my name," she realized as she shook her head. "And still you are leading me to the death that I do not deserve?"
"Yes," the witch told her.
Caroline's fangs elongated and the veins under her eyes appeared, but before she could make a move toward the witch, she fell into oblivion.
Klaus waited in the clearing as Max pushed the werewolf into the circle that would keep her there.
"Where is Greta and the vampire?" He questioned.
"Greta is a couple of minutes away, sir." He replied.
"Was she able to control the vampire?" Klaus asked, the curiosity evident in his accented voice.
"Yes," Max answered. "She knocked the vampire out. Speaking of…" Max started as he turned towards the sound that was coming from the trees.
Klaus smirked as he crossed his arms over his lean chest and waited for Greta to show up with the vampire.
As the brunette entered the clearing, Klaus noticed the vampire was a girl that had golden blonde hair that fell over her face in a curtain which shielded her eyes and nose. Her lips were a berry red and he felt a tightening in his groin, but quickly shook it off.
He couldn't think about his physical needs… Not at this time, not when he was so close to breaking the curse that his mother put on him just to spite him.
"Put her into the barrier, Greta." He ordered, keeping his eyes on the witch instead of the vampire that lay at her feet.
"Of course," she nodded as she outstretched her hands and seemed to levitate the vampire all the while getting closer to the barrier that would hold the beautiful vampire.
Once she was in the barrier, the doppelganger came next.
"Caroline!" Elena cried out as she tried to reach her friend.
The blonde- Caroline- stirred when she heard her name and slowly she came to. Her eyes shot open and she looked around the clearing with a lump in her throat that wouldn't go away no matter how many times she swallowed.
"Elena," she whispered.
Klaus came closer to the vampire and he took in her appearance. Her curly blonde hair streamed down her back in somewhat of a curtain and her eyes were a vivid bright blue, he realized. Her nose was as small as a button and her lips, oh god- her lips tempted him like no other.
The Original looked up at the dark sky and realized that the full moon was going to disappear very soon which was why he knew that there was no time for a quickie with the vampire that tempted him so.
With a shake of his head, he turned away from her even though he saw her pleading eyes.
"Let's get started." He ordered as he looked over at the witch.
Greta nodded and a fire began in the pit. Klaus stood behind her and listened to her chanting as he shut his eyes.
"First, you must kill the vampire." Greta told him.
Klaus nodded as he made his way over to the blonde and swallowed because he knew that he had to go through with this and he wasn't going to allow his lust to get in the way.
"Please, no." She cried out as she tried to back away from him.
Klaus stopped her from moving and climbed atop her with a wooden stake in hand.
"Please, no!" She cried out as her voice got louder and she tried to get away from him.
"Do not fight." He commanded. "Be still."
"Please, you cannot do this to me. I am still so young, please!" She shouted, but he didn't budge even though he felt his heart stir in his chest. Heart? What heart, he asked himself, but still it stirred as he looked down at the beautiful blonde that lay beneath him.
"Please, let me go."
"Stop your incessant crying!" He ordered and the blonde jumped at the sound of his voice.
He noticed that she inhaled a deep breath and shut her eyes before she opened them again.
"Fine," she whispered. "Just get it over with."
"You will not fight me?" Klaus wondered as his eyebrows knit together in surprise.
"Until my last breath, I will." she spat, her voice as serious as ever.
"You have spirit, that's good." He complimented her as her sweet smell invaded his nostrils.
Caroline nodded before she bucked her hips under him and came in contact with his hardened length.
"You will die!" She cried out. "You will die a terrible death even though you think that you are invincible!"
"Will I?" He questioned. "I do not see how that will occur." He added as he threw the stake across the barrier.
"Now you are going to take my heart like the coward that you are? You are a power hungry coward that feels absolutely no remorse! Nobody will ever love you because there is nothing to love. You may have the face of an angel, but you are the devil incarnate and every demon gets what is coming for him eventually just like you will!"
He pushed his hand into her chest and the blonde's eyes widened as she began coughing harshly.
Do it!" She cried out as she continued to buck her hips. "Kill me!"
With a shake of his head, Klaus removed his hand from her chest and staggered back because he knew that he had to have this girl no matter the cost.
"Klaus?" Greta questioned, genuinely confused.
"Next month," he simply said.
"Next month? Are you serious?"
"Yes!" He roared. "I will have this woman for myself for the next month and as soon as the next full moon occurs, she will be dead."
"Klaus, please think about this. You can't honestly want her as much as you want to break the curse." Greta said.
"You do not know what I want, Greta!" He yelled. "Let the doppelganger go. I am giving her one more month to live."
"And the werewolf?" Max questioned as he moved towards Jules.
"Do with her as you please. Kill her, shag her… I do not care. The vampire will be mine for the next thirty days."
"You're sure?" Greta questioned.
"Yes," he replied.
The witch nodded and the barriers were put down. Elena jumped up and moved towards the barrier that Caroline was in, but before she could move any further, Klaus glared at her with daggers in her eyes.
"Leave if you want to live, Elena." He told her. "If you don't, I will kill Stefan followed by your little brother and aunt."
"Let her go, please!" She begged.
"No," he shook his head. "I will not."
"Elena, go." Caroline said as Klaus got off of her, but gripped her wrist.
"Caroline, no. You can't be serious."
"Go," she repeated. "Save the people that you love and live your life."
"I can't leave you." She told her as she shook her head.
"You can and you will, Elena." Caroline said. "Go, but tell my mom I love her."
"No,"
"GO!" The blonde cried out and Klaus inwardly flinched at the desperation that the woman beside him felt.
"Okay," Elena whispered before she turned away from the pair.
Once the two were alone, Klaus smiled down at the toy that he was going to have for the next month.
"We will have a lot of fun, love." He told her.
"Go and fuck yourself." She hissed.
"Why should I, when I have you?"
"You may have my body, but you will never have any other part of me."
"I don't want any other part of you, Caroline. I simply want you to become my mistress for the next month before your life comes to an end."
"I hate you,"
"By the end of the month, you won't." He simply said.
Present:
Their eyes shot open and Caroline looked over at Klaus with disgust in her bright blue eyes. She looked down at their joined hands and immediately moved away from him.
"Caroline," he whispered.
"This isn't going to work." She told him before she walked out of his life for good.
"Caroline, please!" He cried out as he tried to reach her.
Bonnie stopped him as she put her hand on his chest.
"She made her decision, Klaus. Let her go."
"No," he shook his head.
"It's too late."
"No," he repeated.
Bonnie sighed before she turned away from him and followed her best friend out of the house and onto the porch.
"Tamera, do something." He begged. "Please!"
"I am sorry, my boy." Tamera whispered as she put a gentle hand on his shoulder.
"No," he repeated for the last time.
I suck, I know. Sorry everyone! I felt like writing angst today, but rest assured there will be an epilogue and maybe it will be more fluffy than this final chapter. It's been a wild ride and it has taken me almost two years to complete this fanfic, but I finally have! Now, there is an epilogue left.
Also, if y'all enjoyed the "dream state" scenes, I may turn that into a new fic!
Please Leave Feedback :)
