Epilogue

Eighteen Months Later:

The Original paced his living room and his older brother watched him with a curiosity in his brown eyes.

"Your pacing is giving me a headache, brother." Elijah told him as he stood up and reached for the tumbler that was filled with amber liquid. He poured them both a glass of it and handed the fuller glass to his brother.

"It has almost been two years, Elijah." Klaus said as he downed the contents in the drink in one try.

"I know," he replied.

"We all do." Kol said as he entered the room and crossed his arms over his chest.

"Caroline is raising our children alone... How is that fair on my part? I have a right to spoil my beautiful daughter and teach my handsome son."

"Ava and Kaidan are doing just fine without you." Rebekah said as she joined her brothers.

"I know, but they are still my children! I can't just sit around and watch them from a distance. I have a right to hug them, I have a right to put them to sleep and I sure as hell have a right to spoil them rotten."

"You do," his siblings said in unison. "But you aren't doing anything to get Caroline back."

"She hates me, though!" He cried out as he ran his fingers through his hair and bit down on his bottom lip with annoyance.

"She says she does, but did you ever think that she is afraid of what can happen in your relationship? After all, when Bonnie sent you two back to see the events unfold, you chose to fuck her before you killed her." Rebekah said and Kol chuckled even though he knew it was a bad idea.

"Mhm," Elijah agreed with a shrug.

"Speaking of Bon Bon..." Kol said as his now girlfriend entered the space and walked over to him before she sat down on his lap.

"Bonnie," Klaus said in greeting even though he wanted to hate the brunette for sending them back.

"I'm here because I have news for you, Klaus." Bonnie clarified as she snuggled closer to Kol and wrapped her arms around his neck.

"News? Is Caroline okay? Are the kids okay?"

"They're all fine," she reassured him.

"Then what...?" The Original asked, genuinely confused.

"Well, Caroline is coming back to Mystic Falls."

"What?" He said as his jaw dropped slightly and his eyes widened with disbelief.

"Caroline wants Liz to be around her grandchildren, but Liz can't really take off. After all, she is the sheriff."

"Why now?" He wondered as he set down the empty glass and put his index finger under his chin.

"I have a feeling it has something to do with you." A new voice said from the doorway.

Klaus' breath hitched and he slowly turned around. He saw the woman of his dreams and his mate leaning against the door frame with a tiny smile on her face.

"Caroline?" He asked, the disbelief evident in his accented voice as he slowly made his way over to her.

Caroline took a step back and put her hands in front of her in an attempt to stop him from coming any closer.

"I'm here because I know that I have no right to keep the children away from you... They may still be young, but I understand that they need a father."

"So what is that supposed to mean?" He questioned.

"I'm thinking that maybe we can split custody of the kids."

"Before we continue this private conversation..." Klaus started. "You all need to leave." He told his siblings and the Bennett witch.

"Oh, come on!" Kol cried out. "It was just getting good!"

Klaus stared daggers at his younger brother, but Kol ultimately stood up and followed the others out when the blonde gave him her very icy look.

Caroline made her way further into the living room and moved around the original before she sat down on the couch. She had one leg crossed over the other and her hands were together in her lap.

Klaus sat down across from her and his eyes wandered over her. It felt as if he was trying to figure her out.

"What brings you back here, Caroline?" He questioned.

"I told you… I wanted my mother to see the kids."

"I'm sure you did, but why are you here specifically? In my home?"

"That's a good question." She sighed heavily as she rested her chin in her hands and looked over at him shyly.

The Original noticed that she wanted to say something, but when she didn't, he sighed.

"Out with it," he urged. "I never was a patient man."

"Oh, I know." She smiled as she shook her head. "Eighteen months ago, I was confused. I didn't know what I wanted and knowing that I was your mate was more than I could take. I mean a mate, seriously?" She questioned.

"I know that it was a lot for you to take in, but you up and left, Caroline. I wanted you to stick around, but you didn't. You only thought about yourself."

"Bonnie showed us what would have happened was I not freed from your minions. You were going to take me for your own selfish needs and then you were going to kill me. What did you think was going through my head when that became known?"

"I understood that you were shocked, but for some reason I thought that maybe you would give me the benefit of the doubt even though you obviously only ever saw the worst in me."

"How could I!?" She cried out.

"Just like that, Caroline!" He roared. "We were stuck in the same place for four days and in those four days I showed you the real me. I showed you that there was still some humanity left in me, but it wasn't enough, was it?"

"No," she said. "At the time, it wasn't."

"But now?" He questioned, genuinely curious.

Caroline stood up and made her way over to him. Once she was in front of him, she put her hands on her shoulders and straddled his lap.

"It's enough," she whispered before she closed the space between them and gave him a kiss on the lips.

Much later, the two were content with everything and Caroline smiled at him as he drew circles on her back.

"Would you like to meet your kids?" She asked. "Officially, that is."

"I would love that," he smiled as he kissed her shoulder.

"Good," she said and as if on cue, Rebekah entered with the twins in her arms. She shielded their eyes and Klaus and Caroline laughed before they covered themselves with the duvet.

"Are y'all decent?" Rebekah asked as she peeked at them through her fingers.

"Somewhat," they replied in unison.

"Good," she sighed. "Because these kids are starting to give me a headache and that shouldn't even be possible."

Caroline burst out laughing and the twins looked over at their mother with big smiles on their adorable faces. At ten months, Caroline already knew that her daughter looked exactly like her while her son looked exactly like his father.

Rebekah placed Ava in Klaus' arms and Kaidan in Caroline's arms.

Once they were alone, Klaus' jaw dropped slightly as his eyes widened and he took in the sight of his children.

"They're beautiful, Caroline." He told her.

"They're ours." She smiled as she rested her head on his shoulder. "And I really am sorry about everything that happened because I was too afraid to admit that I may actually be happy with you."

"And I'm sorry for being a coward. I should have demanded you take me back, but I knew you needed time."

"I thank you for that, Klaus. Really, I do." She smiled. "I needed time to figure everything out… After I found out I was pregnant, I couldn't believe it… It shouldn't have been possible, but the evidence is in our arms."

"Mhm," he agreed as he kissed Ava on the forehead. "I hope you're okay with me spoiling our kids rotten… I'm going to buy Ava a whole bunch of ponies and dolls. I'm also going to build a replica of Disney World for her."

"As long as you're strict with the kids when necessary, we're going to be okay." She smiled as she kissed both of Kaidan's red cheeks.

Kaidan smiled up at his mother and the blonde couldn't help but melt at the sight. Ava did the same to her father and Caroline was sure that he would quite literally turn into a puddle.

"They're so beautiful, Caroline." He said. "Thank you," he whispered as he smiled at her from ear to ear.

"We both had a hand in creating these beautiful children, Klaus." She told him. "And I hope that we are both going to make sure that they have the best life possible."

"Oh, they will." He reassured her. "Hey, maybe we'll even move to a private island in South America. Would you like that?"

"I would, but only if the rest of the family can come along."

"The rest of the family?" He asked as his eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

"Rebekah and Stefan. Katherine and Elijah. Bonnie and Kol. My mom and her new boyfriend." She finished.

"How about Elena and Damon?" He wondered, his eyes filled with happiness.

"They can visit," she winked. "Although, I doubt they will." She shrugged.

"Well, they'll be missing out because starting tomorrow I am going to look for an island and buy the whole of it. We'll name it The Klaroline Isles."

"The Klaroline Isles?" She questioned as she looked at him with curiosity in her bright blue eyes.

"Yep," he nodded. "Our names mashed together, duh." He told her as if it was the easiest thing to understand.

"Who knew you had such a great sense of humor?" Caroline said as she gave him one of her signature smiles.

"Nobody, but now they will." He told her without a hint of regret in his accented voice.

"And why is that?"

"Because the life that I always wanted is finally becoming a reality and even though I will be giving up the status of the most feared monster on the planet, it will be worth it. After all, I have you and our kids as well as siblings and friends I didn't really care about until now."

With a sigh, Caroline nodded in agreement.

"Also, I hope to get started on our next order of business."

"And what business is that, Mr. Mikaelson?" She questioned, her voice teasing and seductive.

"The business of getting you with child again, of course." He clarified as if it was a conversation about the weather and not more children.

"Oh, no." She shook her head. "Two kids is more than enough for me." She told him, half-heartedly.

"You forget I come from a big family, love." He tsked in her direction teasingly.

"How many kids do you want exactly, Klaus?" Caroline wondered as her eyes widened and she waited for his response.

"Ten if I have any say in it."

"I'll give birth to four more children and we'll call it a day."

"Deal," he nodded in agreement.

"Very good," she smiled at him. "We should think of some names, though…"

"Layla, Noah, Maya, and Hunter." He told her almost immediately.

"Would you look at that?" She said. "He actually knows some more modern names!"

"Of course I do," he smirked.

"Although I'm not sure about the name Hunter…"

"And why is that?" He questioned as he looked at her curiously.

"Oh, I don't know." She told him. "Maybe because Hunter isn't exactly a good first name."

"It's a perfect first name!" He said.

"Hm… How about we name our third boy Liam and have his middle name be Hunter?"

"Sounds good," he smiled.

"And what will happen if we have four girls?"

"Well then we'll name them Layla, Maya, Arianna, and Ilyana."

"And if we have four boys?"

"Oh, that would be a dream come true." He told her jokingly.

Caroline smacked him in the arm lightly and he winced before he started chuckling.

"If we have four boys, we'll name them Noah, Liam, Douglas, and Maximillion."

"Douglas and Maximillion? Ick," she said. "I am not going to give my children those names."

"Then what names will you give our children?"

"Asher and Landyn,"

"Very good," he smiled. "Shall we get started then?" He questioned as he started calling for Elijah to take the kids away for a couple of minutes even though he didn't want to part with them.

"Uh, uh, uh." Caroline said. "Kaidan and Ava will stay and only when we have their bedroom completed will we start on making more beautiful little children."

"But that's going to take like two weeks!" He cried out like a petulant child that was just about ready to throw a tantrum.

"Exactly," she winked before she wrapped the sheet around her body and stood up with a sleeping Kaidan in her arms.

Klaus watched the woman that he would make his wife and couldn't believe his luck as he hugged his adorable daughter to his chest protectively.

"I love you, little Ava." He whispered into her ear. "As well as your perfect twin brother Kaidan and your beautiful mama that has made me the happiest man on the planet single-handedly."

And they lived happily ever after in their little island with those that they loved most. Within the next five years, Layla, Noah, Maya, and Liam showed up only to be followed by four more children that came as a surprise- Arianna, Asher, Ilyana, and Landyn.

After all, that was bound to happen considering that Klaus and Caroline couldn't keep their hands off one another long enough to think of ways of preventing more pregnancies…

There you have it! I hope this epilogue was alright and I know these two have a bunch of kids lmaooo, but to clarify they were all twins!
