Hey! Okay so for the summer chapter I decided to just show a few different times during the summer. It's just the boys with friends and family and each other. I'm almost done with the first college chapter and I'm so excited! I'm not going to put a specific number on college chapters because I really want to just explore it and see where it goes. Anyway! Thanks for everything! Love you guys!
Mid-June
Friday Night
Sam, Gabriel, Kevin, Channing, Jessica and Brady sat around the bonfire, talking. The six were outside of Brady's parents' cabin about a half an hour outside of town. This was only the second time that they had come out there. They were trying to spend as much time together before they left for college.
"Who wants to do scary stories?" Gabriel asked from Sam's lap. Sam had his arms draped around Gabriel and looked up at him.
"Really? Scary stories?"
"Oh come on, Sam! You're not chicken are you?" Jessica teased from next to Brady, across the bonfire. Their hands were locked over the arms of their lawn chairs.
"Ooooh I've got one!" Channing bounced on Kevin's knee. Kevin laughed.
"Ok, go, babe."
"So there was this couple on an abandoned road…"
"Hook on the door!" Brady called out.
"Brady, shut up!" Channing replied while the others laughed.
"I got one. I got one." Jessica said. "This was a girl that was being forced to babysit…"
"The calls were coming from inside the house!" Gabriel chuckled.
"Fine, no scary stories." They all stared into the fire for some time.
"You know, if you would've told me freshman year that we would be sitting here like this, the summer before college, I might've laughed at you." Kevin said, breaking the silence.
"What do you mean?" Sam asked.
"Well, for one, if somebody would've told me that Sam and Gabriel would be dating I probably would've hit them."
"Hell, freshman year? I would've done the same." Gabriel rested his head on Sam's shoulder. Sam placed a kiss on Gabriel's forehead. The friends talked for a few more hours before they realized that their curfews were almost upon them and they needed to get going. They all said their goodbyes, but knew that the hardest goodbye was coming in a few months, but until then, the goodbyes were just temporary.
Fourth of July
"Okay, is everybody ready to head to the field?" Dean smiled. The Winchesters and Gabriel were going to meet the Singers in a field that they had been setting fireworks off in since Sam could remember. This was going to be a big one since Dean and Bobby had bought the big fireworks. They usually only did small ones, but Bobby decided that since Sam was leaving for college, he needed to go out with a bang, literally.
The four of them made their way to the Impala, which Dean insisted on driving. Sam and Gabriel were in the backseat while Castiel sat in the passenger seat. Dean shut the trunk and then slid in behind the wheel.
"Sammy, you know you aren't taking this to California with you, right?" Dean asked as he started up the car and they started driving.
"What? I thought.."
"I told you that you were getting a car. The mechanic I used to work for has a car ready to go for you. We'll take a look at it once we get out there."
"Are you guys flying?" Gabriel inquired. He could see the look on Sam's face when Dean had said he wasn't getting the Impala. He looked like a heartbroken puppy, so Gabriel wanted to change the subject.
"No, we're driving." Castiel answered.
"You are?" Gabriel raised an eyebrow. "Why?"
"Well, we can fit more in the car." Dean looked back at Sam in the review mirror. Sam nodded back.
"Yeah, that's it." Sam squeezed Gabriel's knee, which was their way of saying 'drop the conversation'. Gabriel was confused, until he remembered how Sam and Dean's mother, Mary, had died. He grabbed Sam's hand from his knee and gave it a squeeze.
"Oh, well when are you leaving?"
"Well, Sam moves in on a Saturday, so we'll leave here on Thursday, probably. When are you moving in?"
"Well, I move in that Sunday."
"Oh, well we could stay and help you. Sam would be all set up in his dorm and we could stay with one of Dean's friends." Castiel nudged Dean.
"Yeah, of course." They continued to make plans for the ever approaching move-in date. They pulled into the field to see Bobby's beat-up pick-up truck just as the sun was beginning to set.
"'Bout time you got here!" Bobby yelled, as Dean parked next to the truck. Ellen had a picnic set up with everything the boys could imagine, including three pies. The six talked and caught up until it was dark and then the fun really started. Bobby and Dean walked far enough away that there would be no harm to the other four.
"Gabe, you're in for a real treat. This is Bobby's favorite holiday." Ellen smiled and took a drink from her bottle of beer.
"Really?"
"Oh yeah, Dean's too, I think."
"It worries me every year." And Castiel did look worried, but Sam was used to it. Castiel always protested the fireworks show, but Dean would win the argument. There was one year that it rained on the fourth of July and Castiel got his wish, but the next week, Bobby, Dean and Sam went to the field one night and set them off anyway.
Dean set off the first firework. It exploded and lit the sky red and then blue. Sam was leaning back on his hands with his long legs spread out before him. Gabriel was lying with his head in Sam's lap. It was the perfect place to be. When the finale came, almost two hours later, every color of firework that Sam had ever seen filled up the sky. Just as Dean set off the final firework, Gabriel reached up, grabbed Sam by the shirt and planted a kiss firmly on his lips. The fireworks in the sky had nothing compared to the fireworks that the two still felt when they kissed.
Mid-August
Tuesday Night
"Holy Shit, guys." Michael sighed. Gabriel, Lucifer and Crowley looked at him. The four were in Crowley's basement for the last time that summer. The boys would be all over the country and decided that tonight would be a night just for the four of them (not to mention the only one that was still with their significant other was Gabriel).
"What, Mikey?" Gabriel asked.
"This is it. I'll be at Kansas State, Crowley will be in Arizona, Luci will be at Wayne State, and you'll be in California. It's just, crazy, man."
"Well, on that happy note, let's do some shots." Crowley smiled and the four got up and walked over to where he kept his hard liquor and shot glasses. He poured each of them a shot of whiskey and they each raised them to each other.
"Here's to us never growing apart." Lucifer said.
"Make new friends, but keep the old." Gabriel smiled.
"For one is silver," Michael grinned at Crowley.
"And the other gold." Crowley finished. The boys drained their shots and smiled at each other.
"Where's the ol' ball and chain tonight, Gabe?" Lucifer asked, as Crowley poured more shots.
"Hanging out with his friends, basically doing what we're doing, just less drinking in that group."
"Well, that's probably a good thing, because we will be drinking a lot tonight. Another toast, dear friends!" Crowley announced, triumphantly. They each took their glasses and raised them.
"To one last night with the best mates I ever had." The boys drained their shots again and Crowley filled them up once more. The boys continued drinking, but slowed on the shots. They played beer pong and they laughed at jokes that Gabriel told. They listened to stories the others had since the last time they had hung out and they reminisced about high school. Once they were all practically drunk, Crowley put in a movie that they could all fall asleep to. They eventually fell asleep, but knew that saying good-bye in the morning would be the worst part of their hangovers.
Meanwhile
Sam knocked on the door and waited. Mrs. Tran opened the door.
"Hello, Sam. Everybody is down stairs, enjoy yourselves tonight." Sam nodded thanks before he walked downstairs. Jessica, Jody, Channing and Kevin were sitting on the couch, watching a movie.
"Sam! We were starting to get worried!" Jessica smiled.
"Nah, just had to have a talk with Dean about getting to California." Sam sat down next to Jessica. "When are you leaving?"
"We're flying in Friday night."
"Oh, cool. What about…"
"Okay, we're not talking about how you two are leaving in a couple days!" Jody hugged Jessica and buried her head into her shoulder.
"Aw, Jody, don't worry, you know we'll talk." Jessica said, soothingly while she stroked Jody's hair.
"It won't be the same! I'll be in lame South Dakota and you and Sam and Gabriel are in California and…"
"At least you're getting out of here. Plus, you and I can have a single girls club when I come home!" Jessica patted her friend's back as Jody pulled her head up. Jody and Crowley had broken up at the beginning of August.
"We can?" Jody sniffed.
"Yup! As of today," Jessica smiled. Her and Brady must've broken up.
"Aw, Jess, I'm sorry." Sam said.
"You'll just have to watch out for me in California." Sam had to laugh.
"Well, I can flirt with the guys that hit on you, but Gabe might not like that."
"Do you not see how scary you are? You are a six foot four giant! If I was hitting on Jessica and you just walked up I would hightail it out of there." Kevin laughed. Channing shot him a look.
"Why would you be flirting with Jessica?"
"Chan, relax, he's yours and you can keep him, promise." Jessica rolled her eyes.
"What's wrong with me?"
"Everything, Kev." The friends laughed and soon started movies. They all fell into an easy conversation as the movie played. Sam looked around at his friends. He was excited that he was going to be able to see Jessica a lot, but he would miss Kevin the most. He and Kevin had talked about it and they were going to make sure that they would call each other at least once a month.
"Kevin! I think it's time for everyone to go home!" Mrs. Tran yelled down at almost 12:30.
"Alright guys, you heard the boss." They all stood up and exchanged hugs.
"I want to know when you guys get where you're going, okay?" Jody said as she gave hugs to Channing and Jessica.
"Same to you!" Jessica squealed. The girls were practically in tears. Kevin and Sam hugged again and tried not look at the girls.
"Take care of yourself, big guy." Kevin slapped Sam on the back.
"You too, Kev. You too." Sam smiled at Kevin when they broke apart. They made their way up the stairs and said goodbye one more time. They all agreed to send out a group text when they made it to their respective colleges. On that note, they departed Kevin's for the last time as high school students.
