Wednesday Morning
Gabriel looked inside the small bakery through the window. He was kind of excited for his first day on the job. He walked in and a small bell was heard throughout the store.
"Hello! Welcome to Pastor Jim's Bakery!" A younger, blonde woman with blue eyes behind the counter called. She smiled wide.
"Hi, my name is Gabriel Pr…"
"Oh! You're the new baker! Hold on, let me get my husband." She disappeared into what Gabriel assumed was the kitchen. Gabriel looked around and saw a lot of different pictures that had most of the same people in it. This must've been a family bakery.
A tall, thin, gawky man walked out of the kitchen. He had brown short hair, mild scruff and blue eyes. He smiled.
"Gabriel, right? My name is Garth Fitzgerald IV, nice to meet you." Garth extended a hand. Gabriel took and shook it.
"Yes, sir. How are you?"
"Great, great. How's Sam?"
"He's good, he's actually at work today, too. He's working at Robin's diner."
"You mean Cus'? I loved that place and Robin is a sweetheart."
"Who are you talking about being a sweetheart?" The blonde woman came back out of the kitchen.
"Only you, dear." Garth smiled. "Gabriel, this is my wife, Bess. She and I run this place together. Bess is the pretty face upfront and I run the kitchen."
"Nice to meet you, ma'am."
"Same here, now, why don't you two go in the kitchen and get started on his training and I will deal with the customers."
"Good idea." Garth gave Bess a kiss on the forehead. He looked at Gabriel. "Let's go." Garth led Gabriel to the kitchen and the day began.
Friday Afternoon
Sam glanced around his section. It was still empty. He had only had four tables his whole shift.
"Sam, why don't you get out of here, sweetheart. I think we got this covered." Sam sighed and nodded.
"Yeah, I know." Plus, he and Gabriel were going on their first date in California. It was the first day that either of them were going to be off early enough and Gabriel didn't have practice. Sam untied his apron and walked behind the counter to grab his keys. "I'll see you tomorrow morning, Robin." Sam waved as he walked out of the diner. He thought about surprising Gabriel at the bakery, but he needed a shower first. He smelled like grease. He pulled out his phone and sent a text.
Samsquatch: Hey almost off? Heading back 2 my dorm 2 shower
Gabe: Meet me my place? Shud be off in 20
Samsquatch: Sounds good
Sam slid his phone in his pocket and got into the Impala with a smile. He still couldn't believe that Dean had left it with him. Sam drove the ten minutes to get back to his dorm, and ran up to his room.
"Hey, Sam!" Zach said when Sam crossed the threshold.
"Hey, Zach. I'm just grabbing a quick shower and then heading to Gabe's."
"Oh, really? Well, I was going to invite you to a party over in the next hall, but I guess your boyfriend is more important." Zach sighed dramatically.
"Oh come on now, we'll have more time together."
"Says you!" Zach sniffled then broke out into a fit of laughter. "Nah, it'll probably be easier for me to hit on girls if they're not focusing on you." It was Sam's turn to laugh.
"Even if they were focused on me, you could still have them." Sam grabbed his shower caddy and then walked to the shower section of the bathroom.
Gabriel stepped out of the shower and grabbed a towel to dry himself off. He ran another towel through his hair before he threw that in his hamper. He wrapped the other towel around his waist.
"…the volleyball building?" Gabriel heard Bartholomew's voice. Gabriel figured he was trying to convince Ezekiel to go out with him to a party. He opened the door to the bathroom and then noticed the curtain of black hair on the couch. Gabriel froze as a girl turned around.
"Well, you're only invited if you bring your little fresh-meat teammate here, Bart." The girl said coolly, not taking her deep brown eyes off Gabriel. Her olive skin made her standout from their white couch.
"Kali, freshmen are friends, not food."
"Says you." 'Kali' turned back to Bartholomew. "SO, tonight, volleyball building, B.Y.O.D, whatever you want." She stood up and walked closer to Gabriel. She was wearing a blood red, tight, t-shirt and black yoga capris. She looked Gabriel up and down and then smiled when she met his eyes again. "You're invited, too, come as you are if you'd like." Kali winked and then sauntered out. Gabriel couldn't help but watch her.
"Wow, might want to leave out that eye-fucking you and Kali just did from your date with your boyfriend tonight."
"What?" Gabriel shook his head and looked at Bartholomew. "What are you talking about?" Bartholomew let out a low whistle.
"Deny, deny, deny. Good plan, Kansas." The team had taken to calling Gabriel 'Kansas' since he was the only one from there and his last name was way too long.
"What's he denying?" Samandriel walked in from his nightly run. He looked at Gabriel. "Dude, did you use all the hot water again?"
"Oh, Kansas was just eye-fucking this girl from the volleyball team. I felt a little bad interrupting."
"Shut up, Bart."
"Ouch, well if I didn't know any better I would think that Gabe here feels a little guilty, don't you think, Alfie?" Bartholomew looked at Samandriel. 'Alfie' was another nickname the sophomores had bestowed. Samandriel's last name was Alfron, which is where Alfie came from.
"Not getting involved. You two work it out. I need to take a shower." Samandriel walked into his room.
"And I have a date with my boyfriend to get ready for." Gabriel walked into his room. He knew that Bartholomew was just giving him shit; that's what these guys did, but the way Kali had looked at him. It was almost sinful. Gabriel shook the idea of her out of his head. Tonight was about him and Sam. He was going to take Sam to the beach and they were going to have a picnic on the sand (kind of cheesy, but Sam liked that kind of stuff). He couldn't wait. He pulled on his boxers and a pair of jeans. Gabriel was trying to find a shirt when he heard Bartholomew yell.
"Kansas! The tall one is here!"
"Why do you guys call him that?" Gabriel heard Sam's voice from the other side of the door.
"Well, Gabe isn't a name that works on the court and Princ-blah blah whatever is way too long to say." Gabriel rolled his eyes and grabbed plain t-shirt to pull on. He opened the door and poked his head out. Sam looked up, thankfully, and walked into Gabriel's room.
"Hey, handsome." Gabriel smiled as Sam gave him a kiss on the top of his head.
"Hey there sexy. Sorry if I left you out there with Bartholomew too long. I know he can be a dick."
"Don't be, he was just explaining your adorable nickname to me." Sam smirked and sat on Gabriel's bed.
"Don't tell me you're going to call me that now. I thought you liked my name." Gabriel stepped in front of Sam. Sam slid his fingers into the belt loops of Gabriel's jeans and pulled him between his legs.
"That's not all I like about you." Sam smiled up at his boyfriend. Gabriel smiled back and kissed one of Sam's dimples.
"Well, you can show me later. I've got a great date in mind for us."
"Oh is that right?" Sam raised an eyebrow.
"Oh yeah, you'll love it. Now, let's get going." Gabriel took a step back and pulled Sam up with him.
"Yes, sir." Gabriel finally looked over Sam's outfit. He was wearing jeans, but he was in a long sleeved, plaid shirt.
"Don't you think you're a little over dressed?" Gabriel poked one of the buttons on Sam's shirt.
"Already trying to get my clothes off?"
"Hey, worth a shot." Gabriel winked and then grabbed Sam's hand. The two walked out and Ezekiel and Bartholomew were in the living room, talking.
"I do not understand. I do not want to go; therefore I should not have to go."
"Dude, will you stop it. Come…" Bartholomew stopped and looked at the couple and smiled. "Well aren't you two adorable?"
"Thanks, Bart." Gabriel walked over to the fridge to grab the small picnic basket.
"You sure you don't want to join us for the volleyball party?"
"I believe I have made it clear that…"
"I believe I asked Kansas a question, Zeke!" Sam chuckled softly.
"No, we haven't had much alone time since we've been here and we need to before classes start. Maybe some other time."
"Are you suuuure?" Bartholomew's smile turned into a sneer.
"I'm sure." Gabriel rolled his eyes. "So we'll be leaving now." Gabriel and Sam walked out the door and down to Gabriel's car. Gabriel opened the passenger side door and Sam got in. Gabriel got in the driver's side and placed the picnic basket in the backseat.
"Are you sure you don't want to go to that party?" Sam questioned as Gabriel started the car and began driving. "It sounds like it could be fun." Gabriel shrugged.
"I'm sure there will be more parties after classes start. Once you get going though, there's no promise that we'll see each other a lot." Sam sighed. Again with the time thing.
"We will. I promise. Bartholomew seemed to think that you wanted to go though."
"He's just an ass. Don't worry about it, seriously." Gabriel reached over and put his hand on Sam's knee. It's not that Gabriel was worried about the Kali situation. Wait, what situation? Nothing had happened. She was just a flirty person, much like Gabriel could be.
"If you say so." Gabriel glanced over and saw Sam's jaw tense slightly.
"Is it really bothering you that much?"
"What? You said don't worry about it." Sam knew that he maybe was acting like a whiny girl, but he hated it when Gabriel hid things from him.
"Look, a girl was inviting Bartholomew to the party he was talking about when I got out of the shower. I walked out in just a towel and she kinda…hit on me. That's all, I swear. I didn't even say anything to her."
"She hit on you? While you were only in a towel?"
"Sort of, not really. Is that so bad?"
"Was she cute?" Sam tried not to let the jealousy that he felt be heard in his voice.
"No, not at all. Can we please not fight about this? It meant nothing and I'm probably never going to talk to her again." Gabriel squeezed Sam's knee. "Come on, we're on our first date out here and she flirted with me. I didn't say a word to her."
"Well, next time she invites you to a party maybe we both should go." Sam forced a smile. He was still slightly upset, but he couldn't really put his finger onto why. He just wanted to enjoy this time with Gabriel.
"Sounds like a date, hot stuff." Gabriel smiled, glad that Sam wasn't too upset about the whole thing. The two sat in silence the rest of the way to the beach. The sun wasn't quite setting yet, but it was just about to.
"A beach at sunset?" Sam smiled. Okay, maybe he wasn't as mad as he thought.
"And a picnic! Really cheesy, I know, but…" Gabriel was silenced with a kiss. Sam slid his hand along Gabriel's jaw and smiled.
"It's great. Come on." Sam and Gabriel got out of the car and Gabriel got the picnic basket out of the back seat and a blanket from the trunk. The two walked out on the beach and Gabriel laid the blanket down and then they both sat.
"So, master chef, what did you make?"
"Nothing fancy." Gabriel began pulling food out of the basket. He pulled out a cucumber salad, which Sam was probably going to eat all of, BLTs, a couple bottles of water (which drove Gabriel crazy, but he knew with basketball season coming up he was only allowing himself water), and finally, an apple pie that he had baked earlier that day.
"Nothing fancy, huh?" Sam joked. He loved when Gabriel baked for him.
"Not really, I had some free time at the bakery today. Now, eat your dinner or no dessert for you."
"Which kind of dessert?" Sam leaned in and gave Gabriel a kiss on the lips. Gabriel slid his tongue along Sam's bottom lip and Sam opened his mouth to accept Gabriel's tongue. Their tongues danced together until Gabriel pulled away slightly.
"Well I'll never take that dessert away from you, but we should eat before the sun goes down."
"Yes, boss." Sam kissed Gabriel on the nose before pulling away more and opening the cucumber salad. They ate, talked and watched the sunset. Sam leaned his head back after the sun went down all the way.
"Wow, look up there." Gabriel looked up and saw more stars than he thought he would be able to. He laid back all the way and then Gabriel felt Sam's head on his chest. Gabriel kissed Sam's head and began stroking his hair. Sam closed his eyes and listened to Gabriel's heartbeat. Nothing was better than that. They laid in silence for a while before Sam heard Gabriel's breathing turned so steady that Sam looked up at him and smiled. He was so peaceful when he slept. Sam picked his head up off Gabriel's chest.
"Babe?" Sam whispered. He gently shook Gabriel. Gabriel's eyes snapped open and he looked up at Sam.
"Well, this is nice to wake up to."
"If you're tired, let's go back to your place. I have to be at the diner at nine tomorrow morning anyway."
"But we're already comfy right here."
"Well yeah, but isn't your bed even more comfortable?" Sam smiled. Gabriel smiled back.
"Only if you're there with me."
"Of course I would be." Sam kissed Gabriel's chin and then stood up. He offered Gabriel his hand and Gabriel took it and Sam pulled him up.
"Ready to go then?" Sam nodded and began to put their remaining food away. Once that was done, Gabriel folded up the blanket and then the two walked back to Gabriel's car. They pulled up to Gabriel's dorm building and they went upstairs to his room. Once inside, Gabriel pulled Sam onto his bed.
"So, do you want the real dessert now?"
"Sure you're up to it, Kansas?" Sam placed his lips to Gabriel's neck. Gabriel closed his eyes as Sam gently pushed him back and continued.
"I'm definitely up for it." Gabriel responded before gently pulling Sam's hair to pull him up to his lips and kissed him.
Thanks for everything guys! Love you!
