Next Year: Thanksgiving

Gabriel couldn't stop his knee from bouncing. He was waiting for Dean to come back into the room before he did what he was about to do. Castiel looked at him with a worried look.

"Everything okay?" Castiel asked as Dean walked into the room, wiping his hands of oil on a rag.

"You should've brought Baby. She wouldn't need this much work." They had driven Gabriel's car to Kansas for the first time since they had lived in California. Castiel rolled his eyes.

"Yes Dean, because your car is a gift from the car gods."

"Damn right, she is."

"I'm sorry to interrupt this, but I kind of have a question to ask you guys and I want to do it before Sam gets back." Sam had gone to pick up Ellen and Bobby from the airport. They had gone to Nebraska to visit Ellen's family.

"That sounds serious, Gabe." Dean sat next to Castiel. "Well, shoot." Gabriel took a deep breath and exhaled.

"I…um…I've been thinking about…IwannamarrySam." Dean and Castiel looked at each other and then at Gabriel.

"I'm sorry, what was that?" Dean put his hand on Castiel's knee. Gabriel looked into Dean's eyes. He knew that Castiel was going to say yes; it was Dean that he needed to convince. Dean was the one that was protective of Sam. Even now, now that Sam had been living in California for five years. Gabriel knew that Dean still saw that little brother with the floppy hair that still needed protecting.

"I want to marry Sam, and it would mean the world to me, a…and him, I know he would pretend that it wouldn't bug him if you said no but it would kill him and I know it and he loves you both and thinks so highly of both of you and...Sorry, anyway, I would love if you two would give me your blessing." Castiel and Dean exchanged a look again. Gabriel hoped he and Sam would be able to communicate like that someday.

"Well, Gabriel," Dean hadn't called him that in a long time. Dean looked at Gabriel again and stood up. "You make my Sammy happy, and I think you can do that for a long time." Gabriel stood up and smiled.

"S…so, that's a yes?"

"That would be a yes." Dean offered his hand. Gabriel took and shook it, and then Dean pulled him into a hug. Castiel stood and hugged Gabriel too and Gabriel was pretty sure he saw Dean wipe his eyes.

"So, how are you going to…" The door opened and Ellen's voice carried through the house.

"Boys! Mama's home!"

Gabriel pulled the small blue velvet box out of the pocket of his gray sports jacket and opened it again. He stared at the golden ring with a line of small diamonds along it. He stared at it for a while imagining Sam's answer. He snapped the box closed and put it back in his jacket pocket. Then he glanced at his watch. It was 7:17; Sam was almost twenty minutes late. Sam was never late. Never, and tonight of all nights, he's running late. Gabriel sighed. Sam was working part time at law firm now, and his boss Dick Roman lived up to him name. He normally didn't keep him this late. Sam was supposed to be off at 6. What kind of cruel man keeps their part-time assistant late on the night that their boyfriend is planning to purpose? Seriously, it's as if the man has no…

"Hey, handsome." An all too familiar voice said behind him. Gabriel stood up and turned around. There he was. He had his black jacket strung over his shoulder. His red and blue stripped tie was slightly loosened. Sam smiled, his dimples popping out, and Gabriel smiled back.

"Well hey there, sexy. We better hurry and get this date over with before my boyfriend shows up." Gabriel leaned up and kissed Sam on the lips. Sam kissed him back and then took his seat across from Gabriel.

"I'm sorry I'm late but Roman dropped a case on my desk that I had to do some research for before I could leave."

"It's fine, babe. Do you want some wine?" Gabriel picked up the bottle that was in the bucket of ice next to the table and poured some into Sam's glass. Sam took a drink of his wine and sighed.

"I needed that. It was such a long day. Roman was all over me for this case that I'm helping him out with."

"You mean Dick was all over you?" Sam rolled his eyes. He loved Gabriel, but sometimes he could be immature. "Because that's my job." Gabriel winked and Sam blushed. It amazed him that even after all these years, Gabriel could do that to him.

"Shut up, Gabe, seriously, I just need some time with you and not talk about my work." Sam reached across the table, took one of Gabriel's hands in his and Gabriel gently drew circles with his thumb. "How was your day?"

"My day?" Well, I finished paying off your engagement ring and then I've been freaking out about proposing to you all day. "Fine, normal, just another day at the bakery." Gabriel smiled. He had been promoted to assistant manager a few months back. He loved it, but he still wanted to run his own bakery someday.

"Sounds fun. Is that new girl getting any better?"

"Slowly, but I think she spends too much time flirting with the bakers."

"Well as long as she doesn't flirt with you, I'll allow it."

"Oh yeah? And if she does?"

"I'll sue her ass for sexual harassment." The two kept discussing Gabriel's work until the waiter came back over.

"Hello, gentlemen. What can I get for you?"

"I'll have a New York Strip, medium, with a baked potato. And could you get a chocolate soufflé started?" The waiter nodded and wrote down Gabriel's order, then looked to Sam.

"I'll have a blackened chicken salad with fat free ranch." It was Gabriel's turn to roll his eyes. Always with the salad.

"Sammy, why don't you get actual food?" Gabriel asked once the waiter had left. Sam shot Gabriel one of his patented bitch faces.

"Salad is actual food. Food that will keep me alive longer."

"People that are taller tend to die quicker." Gabriel said, with a nonchalant sip of his wine.

"Perfect, then we'll die at the same time."

"Can we talk about something else please? Death isn't exactly a topic that I want to discuss, especially tonight."

"Why not tonight?" Sam asked with a confused expression on his face.

"Because I just want to have a nice dinner with my boyfriend where we don't discuss death, is that too much to ask?"

"Yes." Sam smiled and took another drink of wine. "Anyway, Dean called and wants to know if we're coming home for Christmas."

"Christmas is a very busy time." Gabriel responded with a smile. They knew that they were going, they even had already bought tickets, but it was going to be a surprise. Remiel and Saraqeal had asked about the same thing.

"I know, but you know how Dean is. He just wants to know. I told him probably not because you would be busy with the bakery."

"I told my parents the same thing."

"Yes! We are so good at lying." Gabriel chuckled and took a sip of wine. Sam had no idea. They kept talking about Christmas and Christmas gifts for their parents when a new waitress brought their food. She placed them carefully and then left, while Sam tried to ignore the look down she gave Gabriel.

"Thanks." Gabriel smiled, but was staring at Sam, not giving the waitress more than a quick glance when she placed his plate down. Sam loved when Gabriel did that. It showed Sam that Gabriel only had eyes for him, and Sam felt the same way. When the waitress realized that she wasn't going to get either of them to look at her, she huffed off.

"She was cute." Sam offered.

"She seemed to think she was." Gabriel shrugged and started eating. He was only able to take a couple bites before he realized he was too nervous to eat. Sam spread the dressing over his salad and ate too.

"Oh hey, Roman is throwing a Christmas party next Friday. Can you come? Please? These people are horrible and you can help me make fun of them."

"I hate those people. I grew up with those kinds of people. They're jackasses."

"Gee, thanks for that."

"Sam, you're different."

"Come on, we can make fun of Dick the whole night." Gabriel bit his bottom lip to keep from smirking. Sam rarely called his boss that, so Gabriel knew he really wanted Gabriel to be there. He threw in a dramatic sigh, but the grin on Sam's face indicated that he knew he had won.

"You know, you're lucky you're so damn sexy. And you owe me."

"I'll make it up to you later. Tonight if you want." Sam grinned.

"Oh yeah. Tonight, and the night of the party, and possibly every night up to the party." Gabriel sneered.

"I don't know if I would go that far."

"Well, we can negotiate later, but I'm sure that I'll get a better deal."

"Oh? Why's that?"

"I'm sleeping with the lawyer." Gabriel winked. Gabriel and Sam ate their dinners and Sam opened up about his day at work. Gabriel half listened. Sam, I've loved you for such a long time…no that sounds stupid…Sam, I can't imagine life without you…that was a little better…Samuel Henry Winchester, I love you and I can't wait to start the rest of my life with you… Gabriel just watched Sam. He knew that the words would come to him if he just let the moment take him. The two finished their meal and the waitress brought their dessert out and Gabriel's eyes grew.

"This looks delicious." Sam and Gabriel (mostly Gabriel) ate the soufflé and then Gabriel started to sweat. He had to do it. Now or never.

"So, Sam?"

"Yes?"

"We've been dating for a long time, and we've been living together for a while and you know I love you more than anything and I..." Gabriel looked into Sam's eyes and knew he just needed to say it. "Let's get married."

"M…married?" Gabriel took Sam's hand and got down on one knee.

"Samuel Winchester, will you marry me?" Sam's eyes welled up with tears. He nodded. It took Gabriel a second to comprehend that Sam had nodded. "Y…yes?"

"Yes! Of course I'll marry you!" Sam cupped Gabriel's face in his hands and pressed their lips together as the whole restaurant applauded.
