"Wait, wait, wait. Why can't I be the best man?" Dean asked over Christmas dinner. Sam and Gabriel announced that they were getting married, not that the parents didn't know. There were squeals and hugs and tears and now came the discussion of where and when and everything else.
"Because Kevin is going to be my best man."
"Once again, I ask, why can't I be the best man?"
"Because you're practically my dad, and I'll be escorting you and Cas to your seats. Then, Sara and Remi will actually be giving Gabe away." Saraqeal beamed.
"So, you guys are doing a whole ceremony?" Bobby asked from the end of the table.
"We were planning on it. I mean, we want everybody there. No offense, guys," Gabriel looked at Dean and Castiel. "We just don't want the quick courthouse thing." Dean shrugged.
"None taken, we want you guys to do what you want. Would you guys get married here or California?" Gabriel and Sam looked at each other.
"Well, our families and most of our friends are here. We have only a few people from California that we want there."
"Like who?"
"Garth, Bess, Zach, Jess, Luis, Benny, Robin and Samandriel." Samandriel was the only one of Gabriel's teammates that he had kept in contact with after his time at Canada College.
"Okay, do they know yet?"
"Yeah, Jessica was the first one we told and she can't hide secrets very well."
"Plus, Robin saw the ring when I went into the diner one day." Sam didn't work at the diner anymore, but he visited often. He also made a trip to Robin and Benny's house at least once a month so that Benny could look at the car and he and Robin could catch up.
"Well, better tell them about Kansas when you guys go home. Where around here do you guys want to get married?" Sam and Gabriel looked at each other. They had talked about an outside wedding, but neither of them had set a specific location.
"What about Kripke Park?" Castiel suggested. The whole table looked at him. "What? That's where you two shared your first kiss isn't it? Where you shared your feelings for each other for the first time?"
"It sounds like something out of a chick flick." Dean mumbled, earning him a slap across the back of the head from Ellen.
"That's a great idea, Cas. What do you think, babe?" Sam smiled.
"Perfect." Gabriel pressed a gentle kiss to Sam's lips.
"Okay, so who is going to be in your wedding parties?"
"We want to do three and three. Kevin, Jess and Zach will be mine."
"And Michael, Crowley and Samandriel will be mine."
"Have you asked them yet?" Remiel asked.
"We're going to stop by everybody's before we head back to California." Most of Gabriel's friends had moved back home since college was over.
"When do you two want it to happen?" Sam and Gabriel smiled at each other.
"Well, we were thinking in the spring, maybe just before Sam's birthday?"
"That's less than six months away!" Saraqeal and Ellen exclaimed.
"We want a short engagement." Gabriel replied with a shrug. The rest of the night was spent planning and coming up with reception ideas. The family called it a night after hours of trying to figure things for the wedding out. Sam and Gabriel climbed the stairs, seriously reconsidering the simple courthouse ceremony. They flopped on the bed in Sam's old room that Castiel and Dean had turned into a guest room after Sam and Gabriel had gotten their apartment.
"So, are you sure you still want this whole wedding thing?" Sam looked at Gabriel. "I mean, we still have our apartment, our damn water bill that's too high, and we fight when somebody watches 'Sons of Anarchy' without me, we basically are married."
"'Basically' and 'are' are two very different things. And I want us to be actually married. I want us to go to those fancy parties that your bosses will throw and all those bored housewives will check you out and ask where your date is and I can smile and say that your mine. I want us to come back to our high school reunion and surprise the hell out of everybody by the fact we're still together, and not just together, but happy." Sam smiled.
"So, that's a yes to the wedding question?" Gabriel gave Sam a kiss on the nose.
"Absolutely. And by the way, it's not my fault if SOA is on when I happen to turn the TV on."
Sam sighed and looked at himself in the mirror again. His black suit had been fitted perfectly for him, but he still felt uncomfortable. He tried to tie his sky blue tie for about the hundredth time, but his hands were shaking so much he couldn't do it right. Today was it. If he wanted to back out, now was the time. There was a knock on his bedroom (for the time being anyway) door.
"Sam?" Jessica poked her blonde head in. She was the only girl in the wedding party, so Gabriel and Sam had given her pretty much free reign on what she could wear. She had chosen a strapless, blue sundress (similar to Sam's tie color) and black wedges. Her hair was curly, half up and half down. She smiled. "Wow, you look good, honey. You sure you don't want to run away with me?" Sam smiled back at her.
"No offense, Jess, but you aren't exactly my type."
"We'll just have a sexless marriage like the rest of America." Sam pulled Jessica into a hug and gave her a kiss on the top of her head.
"Thanks for the offer, but I kind of like him."
"Are you sure? Nobody would know."
"Everybody would know. You know, you are the worst ate giving this whole 'pre-wedding' prep talk."
"That's Kevin and Dean's job." Jessica gave Sam a kiss on the cheek. "Speaking of, Kevin and Zach are outside. Want them to come in?"
"Yeah, probably should." Jessica opened the door and Zach and Kevin came in. They were wearing similar suits to Sam, but where Sam was wearing a bowtie, they were wearing long skinny ties of the same color.
"You ready for this, Sam?" Zach asked as Jessica stepped over and he wrapped his arm around her.
"I think so, guys. We should probably get going though, right? I mean, don't want him to think I left him at the altar." Just as the four were about to leave, Dean walked in. He was wearing a gray suit with a black tie, just like Castiel would be wearing downstairs.
"Oh, hey fellas." Dean smiled and Jessica cleared her throat. "And of course you, beautiful." Jessica gave Dean a kiss on the cheek. "Do you guys mind if I talk to Sammy for a minute? Cas is downstairs and can't figure out where he left his jacket if one of you will help him?" Zach, Kevin and Jessica walked out of the room and Dean looked at Sam. "Sammy, come here." Sam walked closer to his brother and Dean began to tie the younger one's tie. "There ya go. Now Gabe will actually want to be seen with you." Sam gave a shy smile. He had smiled and pretended that he wasn't nervous for his friends earlier, but this was Dean. Dean knew him better than anybody.
"Dean, I'm scared."
"Why? I was just kidding."
"I mean, what if something happens? What if we get married and all of a sudden we realize that we don't want to be together anymore? What if he decides I'm not the person he wants to be with because I'm a lawyer like his dad and he hates that? What if…?"
"Sammy, Sammy, calm down, please? You need to relax." Dean chortled. "You sound like me on my wedding day. You know who I had to talk to about this? Bobby. You know what he told me?" Dean cleared his throat and made his voice rougher. "'Ya idjit, you love him right? Then quit yer worryin'. Everything will work out.' Now, I'm going to tell you the same thing. You and Gabe love each other and everything will work out. Plus, if the thought that any of that was even a possibility, I wouldn't have said yes when Gabe me for permission." Dean pulled Sam into a hug. Sam hugged him back and then the brothers broke apart.
"Thanks, Dean. I really needed that." Sam sighed and straightened out his jacket. "Well, let's get going."
Gabriel ran a comb through his hair, closed his eyes and exhaled through his nose. This was it. He was going to finally marry Sam. He opened his eyes and looked himself over again. He straightened his white bow tie for about the hundredth time. He was nervous, but he knew this is what he wanted. He knew this is where he wanted his life to end up. There was knock on his door and Saraqeal and Remiel walked in. Saraqeal was wearing a deep gray dress and her hair was pinned up. Remiel was wearing a black suit with a tie that matched Saraqeal's dress.
"Hi sweetie, how are you doing?"
"I'm good. I'm really good actually. I'm great." Gabriel grinned.
"You're not nervous at all?" Remiel asked.
"I mean, I am, but I know that this is it. He's the one I want to spend the rest of my life with."
"Wow, you sound more confident than I did on my wedding day." Saraqeal shot a glance at her husband.
"Excuse me?"
"What? You weren't nervous on our wedding day?"
"Well, okay, yes I was." Remiel kissed Saraqeal on the head. Gabriel smiled.
"We did come in here to make you feel better, but if you don't need us to, then we'll get the other boys in here." Remiel left the room. Saraqeal hugged Gabriel and when they pulled apart, Saraqeal had tears in her eyes.
"Aw, Mom don't cry. It's Sam. You love Sam."
"These aren't tears of sadness! Sweetie, I'm just so happy about this. I'm so happy for you and Sam and I know you two will make each other happy and I'm just so excited for you two to spend your lives together."
"Thanks Mom, that means a lot." Gabriel gave his mother a kiss on the cheek as the door opened and his friends came in. They were wearing the same as Sam's groomsmen, but their ties were white.
"…they have brought us some cute California girls?" Crowley asked as they walked into the room. Samandriel sent a pleading glance to Gabriel. Michael and Samandriel had hit off, but Crowley…well, he took some getting used to.
"Sorry buddy, we didn't know which ones to bring. Sammy and I don't have the best taste in girls." Gabriel shot a wink at Crowley. Crowley rolled his eyes.
"Okay, so, should we get going before the moose thinks you changed your mind."
"As much as I hate to admit this, Shamus is correct." Saraqeal smiled. Gabriel knew that she liked teasing his friends as much he did. "Let's get going, boys." They made their way down to the cars and drove over to the park. The chairs and archway were set up and all of the guests were there. Gabriel glanced at his watch; he had five minutes before the procession started. Sam would take Castiel and Dean down to the front row and then Sam would stand there as his groomsmen and Jessica came in, then Michael, Samandriel and Crowley would walk in, and finally, Gabriel would walk in with Saraqeal and Remiel and they would give him away.
"Well, looks like Sammy boy couldn't wait." Gabriel had been zoning out when Sam had begun guiding Dean and Castiel to their seats. Dean gave Sam a tight hug and then Sam stood next to the pastor, looking down the aisle. Even though the windows were tinted, Gabriel was one hundred percent sure that Sam was looking at him and his heart went into triple time. Kevin walked down, shortly followed by Jessica, and finally Zach walked down the aisle.
"See you on the other side, man." Michael clapped a hand on Gabriel's shoulder and smiled. He, Samandriel and Crowley got out of the car. The three of them walked down and finally, the moment that everybody was waiting for. Gabriel got out of the car, and then helped his mother out and Remiel followed them. Gabriel finally turned around and saw Sam. Sam's face grew into a huge smile and Gabriel matched it. Holy shit does he look good in that suit. Gabriel and Saraqeal walked arm-in-arm while Remiel followed them. The closer they got to Sam, the harder Gabriel's heart pounded. When they finally arrived at the end of the aisle, Sam and Gabriel couldn't take their eyes off each other.
"Who gives this young man away?" The pastor asked.
"We do." Remiel responded. Saraqeal had tried, but the tears were already in her eyes. She gave Gabriel a kiss on the cheek and then she gave one to Sam. They both sat down and then it was just Sam and Gabriel. With everybody looking at them. Great.
"Hey there, sexy." Gabriel winked and smiled. Sam smiled back.
"Hey, handsome."
The pastor began his speech, but Sam and Gabriel weren't really listening. They were smiling at each other and looking at each other.
"…rings?"
"Huh? Oh! Kevin, his ring?" Sam turned to Kevin and took Gabriel's ring. He repeated what the pastor said and slid the ring on Gabriel's finger. Gabriel smiled and did the same for Sam.
"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you spouses for life. You may kiss your husband." Sam bent down and cupped Gabriel's face in his hands before (FINALLY) pressing his lips to Gabriel's. There it was. The kiss. The kiss that solidified their union. The kiss that truly made Gabriel his, always and forever.
"There you have if folks. May I be the first to present Mr. and Mr. Winchester." Gabriel had always hated his last name so now was the perfect time to change it. The guests stood and applauded as Sam and Gabriel made their way back up the aisle and into the car that was going to take them to get their pictures taken. As soon as the door closed, Gabriel attacked Sam with his lips, kissing every inch of skin he could. Sam laughed.
"Babe! Stop! We'll have plenty of time for all of this." Sam said before he pulled Gabriel up to his lips and kissed him. The two broke apart and Gabriel hummed.
"Think we have time for a quickie before pictures?"
"Alright, and now, Gabriel and his mother will be dancing." The DJ on the stage of the ballroom announced. Saraqeal and Gabriel made their way to the middle of the dance floor as the music began.
"I'm so happy for you, honey." Saraqeal smiled at her son. Gabriel smiled back.
"Thanks, Mom." The two talked about Sam as the moved around the dance floor. As the last chorus of the song began, Saraqeal stopped and looked over at Sam. She beckoned him with her finger and Sam walked over. She took one of Sam's hands and slid Gabriel's hand into it.
"He's all yours now, sweetheart." She gave them both kisses on the cheek and left the floor as the song came to a close. Sam wrapped his arms around Gabriel's waist and Gabriel wrapped his arms around Sam's neck as the DJ transitioned into their song. The same song that they had first danced to at their prom what seemed like a lifetime ago.
When I look into your eyes
"Wow, I can't believe this." Sam whispered.
"Me either. I have to have the hottest husband in the history of the world." Gabriel gave Sam a kiss. They broke apart and Sam sighed happily.
"We're married."
"Sam, in all seriousness," Gabriel pulled back slightly to look into Sam's eyes. "I love you. I love you more than I can explain and I just, I need you to know that that isn't going to change. No matter what happens." Sam tried not to tear up.
"I love you too, Gabe. And I'm going to love you for the rest of our lives." It was Sam's turn to give his husband a kiss.
The rest of the night was a blur. Kevin and Michael's speeches were somewhere in there and Sam vaguely remembered dancing with Jessica and some other people. They both were told 'congratulations' and were given so much advice that they stopped keeping track. The cake was delicious (Garth had actually baked it there in the hotel himself), but Sam and Gabriel barely had time to eat any. The night came to an end around three AM, and Sam and Gabriel poured themselves into the elevator after about four hundred good night hugs and handshakes. Gabriel looked Sam up and down a few times, with a smile on his face, as soon as the elevator doors closed. Sam noticed and gave Gabriel an odd look.
"Can I help you with something, sir?" The shorter man pinned Sam against the wall of the elevator. Sam's breath hitched and Gabriel grinned wickedly.
"I'm just getting one last look of you in that suit before I tear it off of you." Gabriel grabbed Sam by his shirt and pulled him down into a long, passionate kiss.
