Sometimes Blood Isn't Thicker
This chapter has been requested by hattiexoxoxo and her prompt was Freddie's boss used to be Trevor. Trevor's boss is Fraser. But Fraser's boss? Well it's someone quite unexpected
When Lindsey was younger, she hadn't exactly had the stablest of childhoods. Her mother had walked out when she was only three years old, leaving just her and her Dad, Nigel Butterfield, to cope on their own.
And obviously, no long lasting damage had been inflicted on her, after all, at the age of twenty seven she was mainly normal. She was well on her way to being a fully qualified doctor at the end of the year, and bar the fact that she was covering up the murder of the late Doctor Browning, Lindsey's adult life had been mainly uneventful.
Her younger years weren't as smooth though (and they mustn't have been, if she could accept the fact that her fiancé, love of her life, had been in a coma for the better part of three months, locked up in a hospital out of town, pretty much without blinking). There was one reason for why her childhood had been unbalanced, and that was all due to her father's true occupation.
On the surface he looked like the perfect man, a single father to his doting daughter, whilst still working hard in a respected business company to treat her to her every whim.
But Nigel Butterfield wasn't as perfect as people thought he was, no, his money didn't come from working long and hard in the office, doing whatever could be done to make the world a better place, it came from drug deals, human trafficking and oh so much worse.
The kindly seeming man wasn't as innocent as he first appeared, and had so much power, all over the country in fact, that he could end your life in just an instance, no matter who or where you were.
No-one was safe from his manipulative ways, not even Lindsey, the one person who he truly loved, his one weakness in the whole entire world. In fact, she was so dear to him, especially after his wife had walked out on him, it left Nigel vulnerable, and at the age of sixteen, Lindsey found herself bundled in the back of a van by one of her father's enemies, who had been determined to make a quick buck, whilst getting his revenge too.
She hadn't been hurt too badly, the odd bruise here and there were the extent of her injuries, but it had been the scariest weekend of her life, and once she had been freed, Lindsey took a similar path that her mother had taken thirteen years before-hand, walking out of her father's life and promising to never return.
It hadn't been an easy first few years on her own, but she had managed to get herself a cheap flat, and by the time she was twenty the brunette had permanently moved into the Roscoe's household, having found herself a new family, a much more caring family, who she could truly love.
Her father was on her mind most days, but as more time passed, Lindsey spent less time thinking about him, less time worrying that he would find her, till ten years on, when he barely bothered her anymore. She had thought she was safe, thought she was free from his life, but things are never that easy, and fate likes to screw you over at the worst time possible.
This of course happened to Lindsey, because at the same time she was dealing with her fiancé newly returned from the dead, and an inquest at work about baby Katy's death, her father darkened the young doctor's doorstep once more.
It had been the end of a particularly long day, the secret of what her and Freddie had done in Joe's absence only plaguing her, the guilt tripling due to the fact that Lindsey was currently lounging in Joe's arms like there was nothing wrong.
So lost in her thoughts, Lindsey didn't initially take in the doorbell ringing, nor Freddie answering the door with a sigh, sure it would just be more people hearing about Katy, since her death their doorbell hadn't stopped ringing.
But the voice on the other side of the door definitely caught Lindsey's attention, as she realised it belonged to a man she thought she'd never have to see again. "You okay love?" Joe asked, as he felt Lindsey stiffen under his hold, confused as to what was causing such a reaction from his fiancée.
But Lindsey didn't reply, choosing instead to get to her feet and to the door, to confirm that the person at the door wasn't who she thought it was, it just couldn't be. But all her prayers were in waste, because it was her dad at the door, ten years older and with a considerable amount of hair now missing, but he was still recognisable, bar the hair, not a lot had changed.
"Lindsey love," Nigel said, eyes lighting up as he clocked his daughter for the first time in years, his breath being completely blown away as he saw just how grown up she had become, and how beautiful too.
"What the hell are you doing here?" Lindsey chose to spat, taking a step back as Nigel tried to get closer to her, though he was soon blocked by Freddie, the younger man not realising just who he was facing.
"I came to see you love, I.. I heard about everything that's happened to you recently, I had to make sure you were okay."
"Who's this babes?" Joe asked, having grown curious about what was going on just feet away, his curiosity only growing when he didn't recognise the man at the door.
"Ah and you must be Joe. It's great to finally meet you," Nigel said without batting an eyelid, the two brother's confusion about just who he was not doing anything to put the older man off. He held up his hand to be shaken, though quickly put it back down when Joe didn't take it, still confused about what was going on.
"Who are you?"
"You mean Lindsey hasn't told you? I'm your future dad-in-law," Nigel said, causing both Joe and Freddie to start gawping.
"And he was just leaving," Lindsey said through gritted teeth, already pulling her dad out of the house and onto the garden pathway before anymore could be said, the front door slamming shut behind her.
When they were alone, with no chance of being overheard, the young doctor whirled on her father, eyes flashing dangerously as she tried to control her anger.
"I'll ask again shall I? What the hell are you doing here?"
"And like I said love, I heard about everything that's happened recently. Joe going missing, your... unfortunate miscarriages, and well, now with baby Katy's death, the baby you were treating, I thought you might need a familiar face."
"Well you thought wrong," Lindsey snapped, trying to fight the very strong urge to punch the man in front of her. "How do you even know all that anyway?"
"I have my sources," Nigel said indifferently, seemingly not noticing just how freaked out Lindsey became because of that. It had been ten years, but still her dad knew her every move, would she ever truly escape him?
"Just stay away from me okay? I don't want anything to do with you, I thought that would have been made obvious by the fact that I didn't invite you to my wedding, or the fact that non of my real family know who are."
"Fine, I get it, I do," Nigel said after a short moment, his jaw tensing as he spoke, showing he wasn't as okay with leaving Lindsey like he was trying to imply. "But if you ever need me, I'll be right here for you love."
"I won't," Lindsey replied sharply, turning to go back to the house without a second glance, praying that her dad would be out of her life by the end of the day, though she doubted she'd have that much luck.

"So this is your new base," Nigel's smooth voice rang through the room, bouncing off the walls till it sounded like he was everywhere at once. "I've got to say Fraser, the interior design could use a bit of work."
Fraser whirled around from where he was sat, eyes wide as he watched the one man he would willingly take orders from make his way up the club stairs. "Nigel? But, but what are you doing here?"
"I had to check on Lindsey. I know you said she was fine, but I had to make sure she was myself, a moment of weakness if you will," Nigel said, pouring himself a generous drink when he reached the bar before taking a seat on one of the sofas. "I also came here to help you out. You're in a bit of a mess aren't you Fraser? Not only did you run someone off the road, but your whole family know just what you do."
"I'm sorting it out," Fraser admitted, pushing down the guilt that hit him as he thought once more of Grace and how he had sacrificed her to the police.
"That may be so, but staying here is still far too dangerous. Everyone will be suspicious of you now, and I'd rather not lose my best man to the police. I've got you a new place sorted, far away from Chester, we'll be out of here by tonight."
"Don't you want to spend more time with Lindsey?" Fraser asked, knowing just what the history between father and daughter was, and just how non-existent their relationship.
"Lindsey made it more than clear that she wants nothing to do with me. I've long since moved on from the fact that we'll never have a good relationship, hell, we'll never have one at all. Seeing her, was the perfect excuse to get you out of here without raising any suspicions though."
Fraser finished his own drink before standing and making his way to his office. "I need to sort some things before I just up sticks, but I'll be done shortly."
"Don't rush yourself Fraser, I have all the time in the world," Nigel commented smoothly, reclining in the chair he was sat on. Neither men commented on how Nigel's voice broke slightly as he talked about his estranged daughter, imagining things that never had been and never would be.
And as Fraser gathered everything together that he would need to leave Chester, and Nigel worked on swallowing the lump in his throat, trying his best to ignore the wave of heartbreak, neither noticed the fact that Lindsey had entered the club in a bid to find Sandy, and instead had heard every single word.
She left the club in a panic, unable to believe what she had just discovered. Because she had known what her dad did, had known it for years in fact, and Fraser being mixed up in it all wasn't a surprise anymore, not after what had been discovered earlier that week, but to find the two were interlinked, well it took a lot to wrap her head around it completely, because it just seemed too surreal.
But this wasn't her imagining things, she wasn't going around the bend, her Dad was Fraser's boss, they ran in the same circle, committing the same heinous crimes. No wonder Nigel knew just what had been going on in her life!
And they were both leaving, Nigel had only come to get Fraser out of Hollyoaks, he hadn't been there for her at all, no Lindsey was just his alibi. It made the brunette feel sick, not that she knew why, she knew her dad was a monster, that he didn't really love her, but for that to be re-confirmed after all these years, well it didn't half sting.
She knew she had to do something, the Roscoe's were determined to get justice for their mum, they wanted, no needed to see Fraser suffer, and that was never going to happen if he left town. They'd never hear from him again, in fact it would be like he had never existed.
Lindsey also couldn't let her father go free, he was a monster and ruined people's lives. She hadn't done anything ten years ago, but she had been scared then, had been on her own without anyone to look out for her. She hadn't thought that anyone would believe her, but that fear was no longer there.
Both men needed to get sent down, they needed to serve their time, and if that meant turning her back on the last remaining blood relative she had, well Lindsey would just have to grit her teeth and do it.
So taking a calming breath, Lindsey dialled 999 into her phone and waited with baited breath. "Hello? Yes, I'd like to report two very dangerous people. Fraser Black and Nigel Butterfield. They're at The Loft in Hollyoaks village right now, they're both gangsters, they've killed people and so much more, but they're trying to leave before anyone reports them. You have to get here now, before they get away!"
To be fair to them, the police force seemed to take Lindsey's warning incredibly seriously, because in less than five minutes the street was teeming with officers, all ready to catch Fraser and Nigel in the act.
"Are they still in there?" Sonny asked Lindsey, having run over to where she was sat on the steps, waiting for her dad and Fraser to be arrested, biting her lip nervously, as she realised what she had just done.
"Yeah, I haven't seen them leave, I don't think they know anything's up."
"Well that's all about to change," Sonny said grimly, before moving back to the other officers. "Right, we go in at all angles, don't leave them anywhere to escape. We want this to be as clean and smooth as possible, but be careful. Fraser Black and Nigel Butterfield are extremely dangerous and won't be scared to use violence, they may even be armed in some sort of way."
As one, the group of officers made their way to the club, splitting into two groups to hit the entrances into the club, and in sync, they kicked open the doors and entered, leaving everyone on the outside none the wiser to what was actually happening.
It was the most nerve wracking few minutes for Lindsey ever, but eventually the police left the club, a handcuffed Nigel and Fraser struggling against them, though with little success.
"You!" Nigel screamed when he saw his daughter just feet away from the club, putting two and two together. "You did this didn't you? You little bitch!"
His cries were cut off, as Nigel was forced into the police car, the slamming of the door muffling his shouts, though it didn't stop a few tears springing free. Lindsey wiped them away hurriedly, determined to not show weakness in front of the man who had made her life so hellish for so long. But she didn't have to worry anymore, Nigel had been caught, and there was no way he was going to get out of it, not this time.
Lindsey was finally free, she no longer had to watch over her shoulder to see if one of her father's associates was spying on her. She was free to live her life without any sort of worries, and she had never been more relieved.
Hope you all enjoyed!
Next Chapter – Being banned from seeing each other by their mother's isn't enough to keep Jason and Holly apart, it just means the two teens have to be a bit more sneaky than other couples – prompted by hollyoaks lover, kaitlynrich and a guest
lala1996 - I'm sorry that you're upset, but prompts have closed. If I decide to continue with this story when I've caught up on the existing prompts, I'll let you know. However, chapter 28 deals a lot with Darren's reaction to finding out he's related to the others and obviously not everything you requested is there, but it's seems to be pretty similar. There are also a couple of Darren-centric chapters coming up, so you may like those too.
