Side notes: Hello, Alex, I hope you're reading today. There is a special double b-day for two special people in the group in chapter 20.
TWO HUNDRED and counting reviews. Freakin' h- WHOA! Thank you to everyone who got me there. Now, let's see how fast we can get to three hundred!
Please, check out Klaroline-Lovegames stories.
Also, if you have the time, energy and do not feel like strangling me for beginning a new story, without keeping up with others. (Ha ha, oh, I suck). Please, check out The Last Resort, more Klaroline, Delena, Kennett, Jerbekah and other pairings.
Now, I order all of you, my lovely minions, who I love with equal passion to check out my first joint effort with WeasleysGroupie, "Just Visiting" because we have NO reviews. Why? I ask you? Why? My lovely and hardworking people. Why we put our little hearts and souls and equal amounts of crazy into this little baby of a story. It fell on the floor and now it's crying. Oh, the horror. Mother weeps of poor little baby story and pets its head. Oh, yes, and it has OCs but they will do anything in the name of Klaroline.
Okay. I'm shutting up now. Now, are you ready for Bekah's? Without further ado…
Chapter 17: Rebekah's Birthday
"Dad," I called, chasing my father around our kitchen. For once he was taking the day off while mother had gone over to England to visit an ailing friend. "Dad, Dad, DAD." I continued to follow him around the kitchen like a demented puppy.
"Yes, Nik," my Father looked down at me with a smile as he attempted to figure out what to feed us for dinner.
"Bekah's birthday is tomorrow," I informed him while tugging at his shirt.
My father stopped walking, his face screwed up in worry, "What?"
"You forgot Rebekah's birthday?" Finn asked. He stared up at our father in horror. "Is it because she's the baby? You know she will cry if she finds out. And then she destroys things. I just bought a new bike with my allowance. Please, Father, don't disappoint her again."
"I did not forget her birthday," Father protested, staring at Finn like he was the one who had done something wrong.
Elijah walked in and hopped on top of the counter. "He forgot again. Father, really?" I reached in the fridge and pulled out three cans of soda, handing one to Finn and one to Elijah. It was a good thing Bekah was in bed asleep or I would wake up with my sketches of Caroline and Damon shredded, lying on top of my bed come morning.
Popping his can of soda, Finn frowned in concentration, "What do little girls like?"
"What do girls like period?" I asked. "You are the one with a girlfriend, Finn, and you, Lijah. Have an opinion, do you?" I tipped my head at Elijah, who began to swing his legs.
"Well, Kat likes chocolate and bubble gum... and getting her own way…" Elijah shrugged. "However, Bekah's about to be four, not thirteen. There's a slight difference."
"Why don't we ask Sage and Kat what they liked when they were four?" Finn suggested.
Father looked at them. "You two have girlfriends? How do I not know that you two are dating? I am not a good father."
Elijah and Finn looked at each other before they began to console our father. That is until Bekah came downstairs in her pjs. She was rubbing her eyes, "Is it morning, Father? Can I open my presents?"
I walked over to her and picked her up, "Not until tomorrow, love." Bekah rested her head on my shoulder and yawned. "What would you like more than anything in the whole wide world for your birthday, Bekah?"
"The fair," Bekah mumbled into my ear. "I want a fair for my birthday, Nik, with cotton candy, and rides and games and Damon."
I carried her up the stairs and laid her down on her Cinderella bedspread. "Tell me a story, Nik," Bekah whispered.
I laid down beside her and wrapped an arm around her shoulders while she nuzzled up to me like she did when she was baby. "Once upon a time there was a princess and it was the day before her birthday. She was very tired so she asked her brother for a story so she could sleep until tomorrow and she would have lots of fun with her friends because there would be cake, and a pony, and lots and lots of presents because she was Princess Bekah, the fairest little girl of all the land and her brothers and parents loved her very much and then she drifted off to sleep…"
I snuck out of the room and hurried down the stairs, "Bekah, wants a fair, Father."
Father looked at me. "She wants a what?"
"A fair. You know with the games and food and such. We can do it in miniature. I'm pretty sure this little town had one last year. You took us to it," Finn told him, grabbing another pop and popping the tab.
"In less than twelve hours you expect me to do this?" Father asked, looking at us like we were all insane.
"Yes," We told him before heading off to our beds.
In the morning I forced myself out of bed early. Far too early. Six a.m. I was bleary eyed struggling into my clothes. Hurrying down the stairs, I hopped on my bike and sped over to the Salvatores.' Finding the ladder Damon had shown me weeks ago, I shoved it up against the side of the house and climbed up to Damon's window. Tapping on the glass. I peered inside.
Damon lifted his head from his pillow and stared at me. Getting up, he walked over to the window. Pulling it open, he stared at me like I had lost my mind, "Nik, what are you doin' here?"
I climbed over the window sill and then shut it, shivering. It was February and cold outside. "It's Bekah's birthday," I told him.
"Yeah," Damon yawned. "So?"
"She wants you for a present," I informed him.
"Huh?" Damon's eyes widened.
"I told her that I would wrap you up and put you under her bed. You have to hurry. We don't have much time left," I tapped my watch to empathize my point.
Damon just stood there, staring at me, "Okay. You must have had sugar this morning. I'm going back to bed," He started to do exactly that.
"I dare you to let me wrap you up and place you under my sister's bed," I told Damon, who stopped and then turned to glare at me.
Shaking his head, Damon walked toward his bathroom, "You owe me, brother."
"Yes, I do. Now, hurry. I'm going to go get Stef," I left the room to wake Stefan, who was already up. I was surprised to see the naturally energetic child subdued as he tried to fix his hair like Katherine had done for him on his birthday.
"Hi, Klaus, can you help me with my hair?" Stefan asked, coming over to me with the hair gel. I looked at the bottle dubiously.
"Alright," I told him although I had no idea what I was doing. We went into the bathroom and I tried to do what Katherine had done. It came out close enough with his hair sticking out like a porcupine. "Who is this for?" I asked him.
"Bekah," Stefan told me. He walked back into his room and pulled out a box. "I got her a stuffed pony because she likes them, right?"
I blinked at him. "Stefan, do you… like my sister?"
Stefan froze in action, "No. She's a girl. She has cooties and stuff. Girls are gross. But Bekah's pretty." Shaking his head, Stefan looked away as he picked up the box and headed for Damon's room.
I nodded my head, deciding to keep the information to myself. When Damon was ready we snuck out the front door and moved the ladder. Getting our bikes, we took off for my house. We had to hurry to grab some gift wrapping paper and wrap Damon up. Helping Damon into Bekah's room, we shoved him under the bed.
"What are you doing?" Bekah asked with a sleepy yawn as she leaned over the edge of her bed to peer down at me and Stefan.
Finn, Elijah and Kol came walking into the room. "Happy Birthday, Bekah!" They shouted, holding a tray of blueberry muffins with candles atop. Bekah jumped up on the bed and began to hop about.
"Yay!" Bekah shouted as she bounced and there was a moan from under the bed. Bekah stopped jumping and screamed. "Aaaaaahhhhhhhh! There's a monster under my bed, Lijah, Finny, Nik, Krazy, get it!" Elijah and Finn came to help me pull the "monster" from under the bed.
Bekah stared at the wrapped gift, "A present. But it's moving. Is it a puppy? I want a puppy!"
We looked at each other, "Father," Finn screamed running out of the door to Bekah's room.
Lijah picked Bekah up off her bed so she could unwrap her present. She began to shred the paper and then cried in delight when Damon forced himself out of his cocoon. "Man, I couldn't breathe," He yelled at me as Rebekah threw her arms around his neck.
"Damon!" Bekah screamed in his ear making us all wince, "Thank you, Niky"
I winced again as Damon smirked while patting Rebekah's back. "I'm going to get you," Damon mouthed at me and then began to nod slowly.
"I dare you to be Bekah's for the whole day," I mouthed back which made Damon bare his teeth at me in a semi-snarl.
"Now, where is my pony?" Bekah demanded. "And my puppy?"
"Let's go downstairs and see who else is here. Then we can go to the fair. And you need to blow the candles out on you birthday muffins," Elijah told her.
Bekah blew the candles out, "Can I have some hot chocolate?" Elijah set down the tray before running off to do Bekah's bidding. Something told me this was going to be a long and hectic day. My sister picked up a muffin and offered it to Damon.
"Thanks, kid, but I don't like blueberry," Damon informed her and her lower lip popped outward as she looked at him with wide eyes. "Okay. Cindy Lou Who." He took the muffin and began to eat it.
I smiled. As long as everyone did exactly as my sister asked them, then things would be lovely. The problem would be when someone disobeyed Bekah's orders and then things would go very wrong, very fast. The only person who rivaled me and Kol in temper was our baby sister. "Would you like to take a bath before going downstairs?" I inquired.
Bekah thought about that idea while munching on her muffin. "Yes, I want Kat to bathe me today. With bubbles. And I want Rose to do my hair. And I want Jenna to let me borrow her necklace. The one with the butterfly. And I want Lena and Care and Bon Bon to play with me. And Sage. The big girls never play with me because they say I'm too little and I'll get hurt. I don't think they like me. But they have to because this is MY BIRTHDAY."
I went hurrying downstairs to find the assorted females that my sister demanded the company of. "Hey, you need to come upstairs. Now." I told them as the girls got up. "Kat, you have to give my sister a bath," I told Katherine, who stared at me and then folded her arms.
"I have never given that one a bath," Katherine nodded at Elena. "SO, what makes you think I'll do it for your little brat?"
"I dare you to give my sister a bath," I retorted with an evil gleam in my eye. "With bubbles."
"Rose, she would like you do her hair," I informed Rose who looked quizzical.
"I'm not sure…" Rose began.
"That's what she wants," I told her. Rose shrugged and then headed off. "Jenna, do you have your butterfly necklace?" She nodded. I hated to do this to her. I knew that Alaric had given it to her on her birthday. "Bekah, wants it. It will only be for the day. I promise." I was half pleading while Jenna stared down at me with wide eyes. She nodded, slowly taking it off.
"Thanks," I called to Jenna as she walked toward Bekah's room. "Care, Lena, Bon, today my sister needs friends. Please, treat her like you do each other. Just for today. I've got to go." I ran down the stairs to check and make sure that my father had indeed created a fair for little Bekah.
Running outside, I noticed it was colder outside than before so everyone would need their coats and gloves. Breathing out steam puffs, I saw that our backyard had been turned into a fair, indeed, and there was a real, live pony. Grinning, I clapped my hands together as Elijah and Kol came to stand beside me, "She's going to love it."
An hour later we heard the excited squeals of my sister, who came bouncing down in a flower print dress which was gift from Caroline. Her hair was pulled back in a pink ribbon. Around her neck was Jenna's necklace. "Bekah, you have to wear a coat, hat, boots and mittens," I told her.
Rebekah frowned, "NO!" She wrapped her arms around herself and pouted up at me.
"But, Bekah, it's cold. And the other kids are going to dress warmly. Don't you want to be like the big kids?"
Shaking her head slowly, Bekah looked over at Katherine who was shoving her arms into a coat. "I want wear your coat," she told Elena, who frowned.
"But what will I wear?" Elena asked as she looked at my sister. I cringed as I saw my sister's nose scrunch and she was about to scream when Elena took her coat off.
Bekah ran outside, grabbing Katherine's hand, "I'm going to ride the pony first. Where's Damon? He has to ride the pony with me. And we need a picture." She then switched focus as she noticed Jeremy, Tyler and Matt appear together, "More people."
Letting go of Katherine's hand my fickle little sister went running up to the boys. "What did you get me?" she demanded staring at Tyler and Matt.
The two boys handed over their gifts. Rebekah opened Tyler's to find a doll. "Yay!" Opening Matt's, she looked at it quizzically. "What is it?" She asked, holding the present up to the light.
"It's a friendship bracelet," Matt told her. "See, you tie it like this," he took the colorful braided material and tied it with a little bow at the end. "That's how you know I'm your friend as long as you wear it." Rebekah stared at the bracelet and then at Matt. Her mouth was making a little o formation and she kept staring at the present.
"I'm going to go ride the pony with Damon," Bekah told Matt quietly before running off.
"Can I come, too?" Jeremy yelled, running after Bekah.
Bekah grabbed Jeremy's hand, hurrying toward the pony. "No one else can get on the pony until I say so," Bekah told everyone. Then she looked around. "Where's Damon?"
I looked around and groaned internally. Of course, he had to run off and hide. I was going to kill him today for sure.
"I dare everyone to look for Damon," I yelled before running back inside the house.
There were many shouts of "Damon" throughout the house and I had an image of Bekah shivering and crying. I was going to hurt him when I found him if he did not show his sorry, no good, "best friend" for life butt up soon. "Damon!" I shouted, feeling really angry. This was what Bekah wanted and I was trying to give her a great birthday.
When I finally went into my room and heard a noise from the closet I jerked the door open to find the same scene I would find for many years to come. Damon and Elena making up. Or in this case making out. "What are you doing?" I shouted at them. They were sitting on the floor of my closet playing kissy face while Bekah was having a nuclear meltdown in the backyard.
"Stop that. If you don't go down there right now and play with my sister you're out of my dare club!" I shouted at Damon, who just sat there motionless.
"No," Damon told me.
"What?!" I shouted back at him. "Get out of the closet."
Elena got up. "Come on, Damon. We have to. It's her birthday."
Damon stared at her. "I don't want to."
"Please!" Elena begged, holding her hands together.
Staring up at us, Damon still refused to budge. "Nope, I'm not doing it. I don't like Bekah anymore. She can't make me do something against my will. No is ever going to make me do anything I don't want to do."
I shook my head, "Fine. Then pass the dare to someone else. Or get out of dare club."
Stefan came walking into the room. "Stef, I dare you to spend the day with Bekah."
Trying to hide his happiness, Stefan pulled at his hair, "Okay." He ran out of the room.
I glared down at my friend, "Now, you get my new dare. I dare you to stay in this closet all day. You don't get any of the food or get to go on any of the rides. And the fair is cool."
"Klaus," Elena protested as she frowned. "That's too mean."
"Too bad," I replied before walking away. That was the beginning of many times I did things that the other members of the club viewed as my ability to exact punishments that were deemed cruel.
Walking outside after I had helped find Elena a coat, I found that Bekah had not seemed to notice Damon's absence. While I was gone she had had pictures taken of her on the pony with Jeremy, Matt, Katherine, Caroline, Bonnie and Stefan. Now, she was in that insufferable tea cup ride. I was so glad I was not around to get stuck on that.
Bekah got off the ride and waved to me. "Nik, let's get funnel cakes," she called. "You can come, too, Lena." We walked over to ask for our cakes. Then Bekah wanted to take them to the merry-go-round. We sat in one of those chair things with our cakes and Bekah seemed happy enough.
"My father is bringing me a puppy," Bekah told Elena, who was staring straight ahead at the horses going up and down.
"Are you listening to me?" Bekah asked, narrowing her eyes at Elena.
Elena got up while the ride was still moving and tried to get off. I could only watch in horror as she fell off and screamed bloody murder. The person running the ride turned it off when Elijah began to yell at him to turn the damn thing off. Katherine came over and screamed when she saw her little sister bleeding all over the place. "Shit!"
Jenna ran inside the house and came out with the cordless. She called an ambulance and Elena's father because he was a doctor. Bekah glared at Elena. "She did that on purpose just to ruin my party," she whispered to me. "I hate her, Nik. I hate her a lot."
I did not know what to do. When Elena was taken away on a stretcher, no one really seemed to want to stay at the party and I felt bad for my baby sister. I talked Caroline and Sage into staying for cotton candy and games. There was supposed to be a fortune teller somewhere around here and I had no idea where my father and Finn had gone.
After eating cotton candy and rolling my eyes at another person telling me that I had a dark aura, I went upstairs to tell Damon what had happened. "Damon," I said as I opened the closet door. I had brought a peace offering of a hot dog and a funnel cake. "Elena fell off the merry-go-round," I told him.
Damon got up unsteadily. Grabbing the hot dog, he took a big bite and then stared at me. "What?" He began to chew slowly and then repeated the question. "What happened?"
"She's a clutz. She tried to climb off while the thing was still going around" I shook my head as I told him what happened.
"Are you sure Bekah didn't shove her?" Damon asked me, looking angry.
I glared at him, "No, why would she do that?"
"Maybe because you told her I was kissing Elena. And Bekah was angry. So, she shoved her," Damon concluded, finishing his hot dog.
"No, she didn't. I was right there the whole time," I snapped at him.
"So?" Damon snapped back. "Maybe you looked away. It's still her fault because it's her party."
I rolled my eyes. "No, it's not."
"Yes, it is," Damon retorted.
"Get out of my house," I yelled at him. "We're not friends anymore."
"Fine!" Damon yelled throwing his plate on the floor and shoving past me. I wanted to stop him the minute he left the room but I couldn't. My pride was in the way. I went out the door to watch him walk away by himself as Bekah and Caroline came to stand beside me.
My father and Finn arrived while Damon was walking away. Father got out with a box and Bekah jumped up and down as something in the box whimpered. Opening the box, Bekah pulled out her brand new puppy. "Happy birthday, Bekah," Father and Finn told her.
However, all I could think about was my fight with Damon. That would be the first time we fought bitterly over a girl but far from the last time we would sever ties over one.
I hope you enjoyed the chapter. The next person on the birthday list is Tyler, one of our more neglected characters.
