Fight for your love

This chapter has been prompted by Matthew with the request Robbie starts to develop feelings for Holly and becomes jealous of her relationship with Jason. Realising they're in love with the same girl, the pair go head to head in a boxing match, whoever wins gets the girl but will everything run smoothly in and out of the ring?

Robbie didn't know exactly when it happened, he guessed it all started when he and Phoebe ended things but there was no concrete date that he could put it down to. It being his feelings, for one specific blonde to be exact. Yes, he Robbie Roscoe was in love with Holly Cunningham, his brother's girlfriend.

He hated himself for it he really did, for the first time in ages Jason was in a stable relationship with a girl who had really strong feelings for him too, and Robbie just couldn't live with himself if he ruined that. But it was just so hard, every time he saw Holly it was impossible to keep his eyes off of her, she was just so beautiful. And it wasn't just her looks that had caught his attention, no it was her laugh, her dirty humour, the way she'd never back down if she thought she was doing something for the right reason.

He could see why his twin had been so infatuated with her when they'd first moved to the village, could see why his feelings had only grown stronger over time, after all, Holly truly was something. But despite Robbie now sharing similar feelings for the school-girl, he knew he could never act on, it wasn't right on any level and he refused to be the one to devastate his brother. He just had to stay strong, if he kept his distance, didn't let his defences down then he may just be safe, he may be able to move on from the outspoken blonde without anyone becoming any the wiser.

He could do this, he could stay away, it wasn't like he had a choice anyway.

Robbie was drunk, though that wasn't surprising. With three shots of vodka and a couple cups of a questionable punch in him it was bound to happen, but it was okay, it wasn't like he was the only one. The whole house was filled with drunken teenagers, dancing to rubbish music as they only consumed more and more.

Most were only drinking for the sake of drinking, to get drunk and have fun, but there were some who were drinking to forget. Whether that be an argument with a loved one, a stupid mistake or even illicit feelings for a brother's girl. The reasons were rife, and it didn't take a genius to figure out which category Robbie fell into.

"Lighten up, it's a party!" A drunken ex-classmate of Robbie slurred, pulling him up from the chair he had been brooding in and pulling him close, though it didn't make the sandy haired boy smile like she had so hoped for. "We're meant to have fun so smile and have another drink!"

"Yeah, well maybe I don't feel much like smiling," Robbie muttered, pushing the leggy brunette away from him. The girl was too drunk to hold herself up however and fell backwards, her arm whacking Holly as said blonde tried to walk pass.

"Hey watch it," the brunette said, scowling as Holly only glared at her, clutching her side where it had been hit.

"Monica just leave it," Robbie sighed, trying to ignore the way his heart had started beating far too loud and quick for it to be even a little bit healthy. "Leave her alone yeah?"

"Don't stick up for this little skank Robbie, she's not worth it," Monica hissed, taking a step closer to the younger girl, clearly trying to do everything she could to intimidate the younger girl, though the fire in Holly's eyes suggested it would be harder than Monica believed "How's your mum? Still stealing from people? She should have gone to jail for that, but it's pretty obvious she was let off for the crazy charge, I mean who even buries that sort of-"

Monica was cut off of her vicious spiel by Holly slapping her sharply across the face, the hit resonating through the whole room.

"You little cow, you're going to pay for this," the older girl spat, moving forward to attack Holly, though she was stopped by Robbie.

"Don't even think about it Monica. You're not going to touch her, hell you're not going to go near Hol again, you got it?" When Monica only remained silent, Robbie took a step forward, hissing into her ear. "I said, do you understand?"

"Yeah, yeah I get it," Monica nodded, flouncing off before anymore damage could be caused.

"Come on Hol, lets get you out of here," Robbie sighed, turning to the younger girl and guiding her out of the room and away from prying eyes. The first room he checked upstairs contained a young couple in a passionate embrace, but the second was completely empty. Not even a full second passed after Robbie had closed the bedroom door shut before Holly burst into tears, and without thinking he pulled her into a tight hug, wishing he could make the tears stop, though unsure on what to actually do.

So Robbie didn't say anything, just sat there and hugged the girl he was infatuated with, half hating himself for enjoying the moment as much as he was, Holly was upset, he shouldn't be pleased at all, but having her so close, with no-one else present, well it was like all of his Christmases had come at once.

"I'm sorry, I'm such a mess," Holly eventually said once her sobs had subsided, pulling away from Robbie to wipe away her tears. "Wine always turns me into an emotional wreck."

"Don't be silly, Monica was being a bitch, hell I may have even burst into tears after that."

Holly snorted, a small smile gracing her lips as the image played in her head. "You're such an idiot."

"Part of my charm," he smirked, though it soon faded as he realised just how close he was to Holly, hell if he leaned over just a few inches, his lips would be touching hers. Without thinking, he did just that, half expecting to be pushed away though that never happened.

Instead the kiss only deepened, short circuiting Robbie's brain. The kiss was everything he imagined it to be and so much more, and if he was to be struck down dead right then and there, he'd die happy, because this was the best thing he'd ever experienced.

Before anything more could occur, Robbie felt himself being pulled away and thrown to the floor. He was ready to cry out in annoyance, half expecting to meet Monica's eye when he looked up, though what he did see shocked him to the core, because it wasn't Monica that was towering above him or even one of her little friends, no it was so much worse, because it was Jason, and he looked pissed.

"What the fuck are you doing?" he yelled as Robbie scrambled to his feet.

"Now mate, I think you just need to take a deep breath, just calm down yeah?" Robbie tried, holding his hands out in an attempt to not aggravate Jason further.

"Calm down? You want me to calm down? You were kissing my girlfriend, I have every right to be pissed."

"Of course you do, it was stupid of me but just take a breath, you don't want to do something you'll reg- aah!" Robbie was cut off as Jason punched him square in the jaw. But it didn't stop there, punches were soon raining down on the teen as his brother let out all the anger and betrayal he was feeling, ignoring Holly's cries for him to stop.

Robbie tried for a few swipes, anything to get Jason off of him, but in his drunken state he was no match for his twin, and in seconds he was sprawled on the floor, panting for breath as Jason finally let up.

"You're a bastard and I'm never going to forgive you for this. Just stay away from me yeah!" Without another word, Jason stormed out of the room, door slamming shut behind him, leaving a tearful Holly and still panting Robbie, as he tried to think of just when his life had become such a mess.

The next few days were just awful. Jason refused to be in the same room as Robbie, let alone even speak to him and it didn't take long for the rest of the family to pick up that something was wrong with the usually close brothers, not that they could get it out from either teen.

Four days after the party, as Jason once more moved to go up to his room after Robbie entered the kitchen to make a coffee, Sandy finally snapped.

"This is getting completely ridiculous," she sighed, blocking the door so Jason couldn't move past. "You're both acting like complete children and you're not telling anyone what this little dispute is about. I thought you were both better than this, but I guess not."

"Not my fault that Robbie's a complete d-"

"And you had nothing to do with that bruise on his cheek then?" Sandy interrupted smoothly, saying nothing when Jason only flushed uncomfortably.

"I don't know what caused this latest... dispute between the pair of you and quite frankly I don't care. What I do care about though is you two sorting it out and soon. Either you do it yourselves like mature adults, or I step in and make you two get along. I think we all know what everyone would prefer."

Shooting her youngest sons a heavy glare, Sandy turned heel and left the kitchen to get ready for her shift at the hospital, leaving the twins standing in an awkward silence in the the kitchen, not quite sure what they should say to one another.

"She's right you know?" Robbie sighed, running a hand through his hair. "We have to sort this whole thing out, it's getting ridiculous."

"Well maybe if you hadn't kissed my girlfriend then this wouldn't have happened."

"I'm sorry about that okay! I was drunk and... I love her," Robbie rushed out the last bit, holding his breath as Jason reacted to what he had just heard.

"You what?"

"I love Holly, I'm really sorry mate, but I can't help how I feel. I really wish I didn't but I do, and nothing is going to change that," Robbie said, guilt hitting him like a sledgehammer as he watched Jason take in a shaky breath, trying to understand what he had just heard. "I only kissed her because I was drunk, but I promise that it'll never happen again!"

"Until you're drunk again that is," Jason muttered, openly glaring at Robbie. "We need to sort this, we both love Holly and we need to get this sorted."

"What are you suggesting?"

"I don't know, something to help us let out our... anger with each other, but a way to decide who should be with Holly. A boxing match maybe?" Jason suggested, looking to Robbie to see how he felt.

"Oh so the sport you've actually trained for and are therefore at an immediate advantage," Robbie said lightly, arching a brow.

"You've fought dirty in the past, why would this time be any different?" Jason said before he could stop himself, though the look of hurt that flashed across Robbie's face was more than satisfying.

"Fine, boxing it is then. But we don't tell mum, or Holly. They'll only flip."

"Deal."

Two days later Jason and Robbie found themselves at the local gym, gearing themselves up for the fight as a number of their classmates grabbed good seats by the ring, buzzing with excitement at the battle about to take place. One of the gym-workers placed the whistle to her lips and blew, the shrill sound starting the fight. The two lads moved from opposite corners of the ring to the centre as the worker hopped over the barrier, getting back to her other clients, not too interested in a fight of love between boys half her age.

Punches soon started getting thrown, the teens determined to beat the other, to get the glory and most importantly, the girl. It was obvious that Jason's prior training had done a lot for him, he was clearly stronger than Robbie, not just physically but also at the sport. His constant jabs and punches thrown left Robbie backing up, more on the defence than anything, with barely a second to breath.

He tried to jump out of the way of one of the punches, though Jason predicated his brother's move and threw another, his fist hitting Robbie in the chest forcefully. He fell to the ground instantly, gasping for breath and clutching his side. Although he was inclined to believe that Robbie was only putting it on, his pale pallor told Jason that he was seriously hurt.

"Rob?" he asked gently, kneeling by his brother's side as Robbie took a shaky breath. "Are you okay?"

"My side.." he muttered, shaking his head and biting his lip as another wave of pain washed over him. "It freaking hurts."

Before Jason could even open his mouth, Holly had rushed over, climbing over the ring barrier and rushing to the warring brothers, sighing in relief as Robbie managed to get up, grimacing as he did so, though nothing seemed to be broken as he stretched and checked his side.

"Holly? How did you know we were here?" Jason asked, turning to the blonde with a confused look.

"Stacie heard about it from Michael and told me. Thought it best that I should know that two assholes are fighting over me, I was going to try to stop this from even happening, but by the time I got here, you two were well underway," Holly said coldly, crossing her arms and glaring at the youngest Roscoes. "How could you be so stupid? I knew you both could be pig-headed but this is on a whole other scale. Robbie could have really gotten hurt J, I'm surprised he doesn't need to go to hospital! Why would you even think this was a logical thing to do."

Neither twin said anything, with Holly as angry as she currently was, it was probably safer. "But you weren't thinking were you? No, you were being 'sexist', 'arrogant' dicks! I am my own person, you can't win me in a fight for gods sake, I love you Jason, I would have stayed with you no matter what, that is, if you would have had me after the party, but after this, no, that's not going to happen anytime soon. I like to be treated as an actual person, not as a trophy, and if that's all I am to you, well you can get stuffed."

Without another word, Holly climbed out of the ring and then the whole gym, practically snarling at anyone who tried to get her to stop and talk. The gym doors slammed shut behind her, the whole room falling into an awkward silence as the watching crowd tried to decide what they should do next, though their minds were soon made up for them.

"Right show's over," the gym worker yelled as she left her desk, pulling open the main door and shooing people through them.

"You lot better get out of here before I get my boss down here, and believe me, he will not be happy." It took a few minutes, but eventually only Robbie and Jason were the only ones left, even the worker having left for a few minutes to greet her next client.

"Got to admit, that was not the result I imagined," Robbie sighed as he looked around the once full room.

"You can't say you were surprised by Holly's reaction, I thought she was going to slap us both then and there. Why do you think I didn't want her knowing before."

"Nah it weren't that, I'm just surprised that you actually beat me," Robbie grinned as Jason took a swipe, neatly dodging it.

"Jerk."

"You love it," Robbie snarked, sitting down and holding his aching side, Jason grimacing when he saw that his twin was in genuine pain and hadn't just been exaggerating for the watching crowd.

"I'm sorry about that, I should have been calmer, shouldn't have lashed out at you, it was dirty play big-time."

"Would you shut up you big sap," Robbie grumbled good-naturedly. "I was trying to get you to lash out anyway, was part of my big plan to win the match and all, too bad I under-estimated your bloody strength."

"I could have hurt you Robbie, big time."

"You didn't though," the other Roscoe sighed, his patience already wearing thin at Jason's insistence to be punished. "Look what you did was a bit of a dick move yes, but I'm not going to hold it against you or nothing. It was all part of the game and you won, as much as it hurts my ego to say it."

"But I lost Holly, the only girl I've proper loved and now she'll want nothing to do with me, not after this."

"Oh give over Jase. Holly still loves you, sure she's mad about this whole 'I'm a real person not a trophy doolaa' but she'll get over it, because you both love each other, and if it's as real as you both go on about it, you'll be back together before mum even realises that you've probably broken my ribs." At Jason's pensive look, Robbie couldn't help but roll his eyes. "That was a joke mate, my ribs will be bruised at best."

"What about you though? You love Hol too, if I got back with her I don't think I could live with myself knowing that you'll be the one to get hurt."

"Don't be such a siss J, I'll be fine," Robbie scoffed, though he sighed when his twin refused to look away, arching a brow when the troublemaker still remained silent. "Look what Holly said earlier got me thinking. We were both acting like absolute dicks, we just made all the decisions for her and that weren't right. Holly doesn't love me, she never has, we had a drunken snog at one party when she was too out of it to realise that it was the wrong thing to do. She is the girl for you mate, and I was stupid to think I had any chance with her."

Jason didn't say anything for a moment, mulling over Robbie's words and having a very clear internal battle with his conscience. "It's not Holly I'm worried about though, I do love her, of course I do, but I can't be with her if it'll screw up everything between us, I mean, look at what happened between Joe and Freddie with Lindsey."

"And that won't happen, because we're not mentally challenged like they are. We're brothers J, and nothing is ever going to change that. Now can you start moping about, because all this feeling talk crap is making me feel physically ill."

"And you were doing so well at being a genuinely nice human being," Jason smirked as Robbie only shrugged.

"It was incredibly draining, I don't know how you manage it everyday. Now come on, lets go find mum and show her we're the best of buddies again, before she starts packing our bags."

As always I hope you all enjoyed, feel free to give me any and all feedback you have!

I've finally fully moved back in and got the laptop yesterday, so my writing should hopefully start to pick up in pace once more, though the internet has decided to stop working, so I can only update when I can get to a place with a connection, aka right now. This should get sorted by tomorrow, so hopefully won't be a problem for any longer and I just hope that now I can start updating every five days like I did so before.

And I know I do this far too much, but I'd just like to thank everyone for understanding why I haven't been able to update much over recent weeks. Some of the reviews I've gotten have been so lovely and brought a tear to my eye and if I can I will thank you for those kind words.

If you post as a guest though, please know that your reviews mean the absolute world to me I just can't reply to them, though I wish I could!
