Chapter 57

How To Heal When Someone Is Dead?

Sonic ran until he could no longer hear the cries of his Mother and only then did he realise that he was in the middle of the Great Forest. He looked around at all the bush and trees surrounding him and sighed, looking down.

He wiped his eyes of the drying tears there. "I can't believe I just left her like that." Sonic sat down underneath a tree and leaned against it, looking to the sky with lowered eyelids. "What do I do now? I can't go back or else I'll endanger everyone there…" He looked down at his hands and clenched them. "…like what I did to Dad…"

Sonic sighed and leaned his head back against the tree's bark, staring off into the distance. He was waiting for that pain to hit him. He closed his eyes and was about to fall asleep, he could hear crickets start to chirp their little tune in the night, owls starting to make calls within the sky. It all seemed quite peaceful to Sonic as he lay under the tree listening to all these sounds. He had never done it before and now that he's doing it ... it sounded ... beautiful. Sonic opened an eye and then widened them when he saw that it was dark and he still hadn't changed.

He looked up at the sky and saw that the moon wasn't full, just passed the full moon by a night, and he smiled. He began laughing and fell back against the bark of the trunk. "It's not a full moon! I got all worried all for nothing!" He sat up and sighed, looking in the direction of New Mobotropolis. "Even if it isn't a full moon … I still can't go back."

Sonic stood up and looked around the forest before heading further into it. He passed many trees and bushes, trying not to turn back and head to where his home once was. He didn't want to endanger anymore of his friends or family by being there on a full moon.

A noise caught Sonic's attention and he turned to look in that direction, while getting his fists ready. What came next he didn't expect. It was one of those creatures he had fought two months ago with Monkey Khan and a month ago to save Sally from. It was dark blue colour with light blue markings along its body and arms. It had one huge pink eye that glared at Sonic as it sheathed its pink claws, ready to strike the hedgehog.

The creature ran at Sonic with a speed that Sonic wasn't ready for. He tried to dodge to the right in time with its attack, but ended up getting scratched at the left side underneath his arm. Sonic stumbled backwards, grabbing at his wound to stop the blood from leaking out. This turn of events seemed to make the creature more confident to attack Sonic again.

The creature lunged at Sonic and landed on him while he was still tending to his wound. Sonic cried out in shock and looked up at the creature as its right clawed hand kept Sonic's right arm pinned to the ground. The creature, then, lifted its left arm into the air to finish the job, but Sonic wasn't going down that easy. He pushed it off him with his legs and stood up, slowly, from his wound.

The creature roared at Sonic and ran at him once more. Sonic was ready this time and swiftly kicked it in the face, knocking it into a tree and killing it. The hedgehog watched as the creature fell to the ground and turned to smoke. Sonic hissed in pain as he remembered he had been wounded and looked down at it. His eyes widened when he saw the wound. It was a deep cut with blood seeping out of it and the edges of the cuts were deep purple, mixing in with his blue fur a little.

"That can't be good," Sonic said, sounding uneasy. "I guess I may have to head back to get medical attention."

As Sonic turned to head back he saw a glimmer out of the corner of his eye and walked over to it. He knelt down it front of it and saw that it was the power ring he had thrown away earlier. His huffed and was about to turn away when his cut sent a wave of pain through his body and he grabbed at his side. As he did this, a drop of his blood had fallen from the cut and landed on the ring.

The ring began to glow a different colour and Sonic looked down at it and gasped. It was now a blood red colour. Sonic blinked at this and looked at the spot his cut was. "Was that from just one drop of my blood?" Sonic asked, himself. Sonic picked up the ring as a thought ran through his head and a smile came to his face. "If it has my blood in it then maybe … it could heal Dad."

As Sonic finally got back to New Mobotropolis, he saw many of the civilians looking at him and whispering about whether he's meant to be the 'beast' or not tonight. Sonic gulped and continued onward toward the hospital. After passing many mobians asking him questions about tonight and if he's meant to be here, he finally arrived at Tommy Turtle Memorial Hospital.

Sonic walked inside to find Doctor Quack and Uncle Chuck. The power ring safely hidden in his quills. As Sonic wondered further into the hospital, hoping to get to the morgue before anyone noticed him. Sonic walked down the hall and reached the corner which lead to morgue. Be fore he could progress further he heard talking and hid behind the corner that lead down two hallways and in which one lead to the morgue.

"I'm sorry that we couldn't do anything, Charles," Doctor Quack spoke as they walked down the other end of the hallway, away from the morgue and not noticing Sonic hiding behind the corner.

"Yes. I feel mostly upset for the fact we couldn't do anything to save him for Sonic," Uncle Chuck said as they continued to walk away. "He grew up without his Father and having the guilt on his conscious that he killed him. I don't know how that boy is feeling right now."

"That is one thing that can be empathized, even though he turns into that creature every full moon he still attains his emotions. That seems to be something that most of the townspeople don't understand," Doctor Quack's last words rang in Sonic's head as they disappeared behind another corner.

Sonic stepped out from behind the corner and looked at where the two went. "Do the people of Mobotropolis really see me as..." He gulped as he looked down at his clenched fist he didn't know he had been clenching. "...a threat?"

Sonic shook his head and ran toward to the morgue and sighed in relief when he saw that his Father's body was still there. It hadn't been moved anywhere for funeral arrangements yet. Sonic took the ring out and raised it, but then a thought hit him. "If this works ... and it revives Dad..." Sonic lowers the ring as he stares at his Dad's body that was covered by white sheets. "...would he get the curse too?"

Sonic shook his head at that assumption and raised the ring once more as he began to wish for his Father to be brought back to life. For him to be just like he was before he punched him last night. For him to be alive again. A glowing red light spread over Jules' body as Sonic wished with closed eyes, hoping that a second time would work. As the light died down, Sonic opened his eyes and threw the ring across the room.

I'm stupid. Robots can't have my curse, so Dad will be safe, Sonic thought. As Sonic lifted the sheets off of his Father's body his eyes widened and gasped. "No way."

I know I haven't updated this in awhile, but I had half of this chapter done, but the other half I hadn't figured out yet. I've got a little idea for how the next month can go. Also I was thinking of re-reading the whole story to be up-to-date on everything, but I couldn't be bothered so I just tried to remember when the full moon was and realized it had already had three so I just did that the characters miscounted like I did. XD I'm gonna be going to TAFE next month if it's not full and going into a VAS course to work on my art and also do some volunteer work at a place that actually sounds interesting to me which is a performing arts job so that's four days a week that is taken from me! I won't have a lot of time to do this in my free time anymore next month unless my writers block lets up and I get a brainstorm. So, I'd most likely have to commit completely to TAFE because I fall victim very fast to stress.
