Three weeks later...

Today is the day; I am going to ask Alex to marry me. It took quite a long time, but I finally convinced the elders to allow me to marry Alex. They told me about the laws and customs which, of course, I already knew of. I explained to them that we love each other and would appreciate it if the council would approve of our marriage. I said that either way we would get married and we do want the to approve. Of course, they went on about how this had never happened before, and I explained that indeed it had. That Queen Nefari herself had married a commoner and had loved him dearly. I told the how this love had produced a child; their very own Princess Liliuokalani. They were shocked into silence; they had no idea that Alex is not the king's daughter. I waited patiently for their answer and, after a considerable amount of time had passed, they called me into the meeting room. They had decided on a verdict; I am to marry the princess in two weeks. I am extremely happy! I walk into the throne room and sit down at the desk. Instead of signing papers however, I am thinking of a proper way to ask Alex to marry me. What would be the perfect thing for the Princess? I don't even have a ring for her yet. How do I know what kind of ring she'll like? My thoughts are interrupted by Omar, who is walking into the room with an ornate box in his hand. "These are for you and Alex. They are the rings that Queen Nefari and I wore. I know Alex will enjoy having something of her mother's and I hope you will accept mine." He says with a smile. "Of course! I'd be honored to accept this. Thank you!" I reply. "Good. I wish you both much happiness." He says, and then walks out of the throne room. The ring situationis taken care of, but I still don't know how to ask her to marry me. Sighing, I go back to the desk and sign papers with the royal seal. Within a few hours, Alex is back from her shopping trip, and has brought Amanda back with her. "Hey Kuru!" Says Amanda. "Hi!" Says Alex. I nod in reply as I finish the sentence I am writing. When I am finished, I stand and walk over to the girls. "Amanda, it's great to see you, but I need to talk to Alex for a minute alone." I say. I give her a look that I know she will understand, and within seconds her eyes light up. She says nothing; only nods and backs out the door. "What do you want to talk to me about, Kuru?' Asks Alex, naïve as a new fawn. "I want to ask you a question. It's very important that you thin it over carefully, because it will be hard to convince the elders to allow it if you agree." I reply, not wanting to give away my intent too soon. "Okay. What is it? What will be so hard to convince the elders of?" She asks. "Well, I was wondering if, that is, I mean to say, will you become my queen, Princess?" I ask. "I will when I get married. You know that. Why are you asking if-Oh!" She exclaims, finally getting my point. "Will you marry me, Alex?" I ask again. "Of course I'll marry you! I love you." She replies, hugging me. For once, I hug back, and I slip the ring onto her finger. "This is the ring your Mother wore when she married Omar. And the one I'm wearing was Omar's. He wants you to have it. "I say quickly, knowing that Amanda won't wait much longer. "I'd be honored to wear my mother's ring. And I'm glad you've got my father's." She answers with a big smile. "Oh! We should tell Amanda!" She exclaims. "I have a feeling she already knows." I say, opening the door, sending Amanda, who was eavesdropping, tumbling onto the floor. "Sorry!" She exclaims, getting up off the floor. "It's alright. Look at my ring. It was my mother's." Says Alex excitedly. "It's beautiful, Alex!" Says Amanda, admiring it. "I was wondering if you would like to be my maid of honor." Says Alex. "Oh! Of course I do! This is so exciting! We have so much planning to do! Come on, Alex, we have to get to work!" Says Amanda, dragging Alex out of the room towards Anala.
