Sequel of A New Life
Ch. 3 Panic
Sakura hummed as she brushed out her hair before school, talking with Sasuke the day before had really helped her get over her paranoia. She believed Karin was just a rude customer and there was no possible way a threat could be upon her. Danzo went behind bars a year ago and nothing had happened since; it was peaceful and she didn't want her paranoia to ruin that. She ran a little lip-gloss over her lips and headed out the door with her briefcase. She smiled as the warm sun hit against her skin as she walked over to her car. Sakura quickly drove out of the driveway excited to see Sasuke and her friends at school and took no notice to a black convertible starting to follow her. She cranked up the music in her car as the black car kept a space between them and followed her to school. Sakura pulled into the school driveway and took a glance at her rearview mirror as the black car finally continued on the main road. Sakura's eyes widened as she swore she saw a flash of bright red hair in the driver seat but the car went by too quick for her to identify the driver. She shook her head telling herself there were plenty more people with that hair color and it could've been a hat. She nodded as she got out of the car; there was no way Karin would come near her school.
_downtown_
Karin walked through a dark restaurant and sat at a large table in a private section. She glanced up at the man seated across from her and gave a small smile, "Any more visits with Danzo?"
Orochimaru gave a small snicker, "A couple, it is quite hard to discuss revenge plans with police hovering over you. So much coding of words…I hope you have what I asked for."
Karin pulled out a large file folder and placed it on the table and pushed up her glasses, "You know I'd never fail you Orochimaru-sama."
Orochimaru gave a big grin as he opened the folder; there were dozens of pictures of Sakura and her companions with excessive notes on their relationships, behaviors, daily routines, and where they lived. Orochimaru held his eyes on the picture of Sakura and Sasuke running together from the previous day, "This is the boy you want?"
Karin's lips curved up, "Sasuke…I'll take him right from her hands."
Orochimaru's gold eyes swirled with glee and he stared closely at his face, "You have fine taste, this Sasuke-kun is part of the famous Uchiha clan."
Karin's eyes gleamed as she thought over all the money tied to him. Her face then cowered a little, "He'll be hard to hide…"
Orochimaru's grin continued as he ran a finger over Sakura's face, "Oh don't worry about that, I have a brilliant plan in mind where even the Uchiha can't stop us."
Karin's face filled with mischief and she licked her lips, "Just tell me what I need to do to get rid of that pink brat."
_two hours later_
Sakura threw a napkin at Sai's face as they both stood in line to pay for their lunch, "Thanks for giving away when I'm faking."
Sai calmly placed the napkin on his tray, "I felt your boyfriend should have the same advantage of knowing when your smile is fake like I did."
Sakura rolled her eyes as they slid further down the line. Sai kept his eyes on her sensing her calmer persona than yesterday, "Do you mind telling me why you were so upset yesterday?"
Sakura tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and shrugged, "This customer got me really freaked out and I felt like I was being watched but I was just paranoid. Everything with Danzo still gets to me every once in a while I guess."
Sai gave an understanding nod, "But you know your safe right?"
Sakura gave a small smile as she thought of Sasuke, "Yeah I know…," Sakura kept a straight face as she glance back at Sai, "Since I was honest can you be honest with me?"
Sai nodded with earnest eyes, "Of course"
Sakura gave a small glance around her, "Do you like Ino?"
Sai's eyes widened at the topic and he paused for a moment, "She interests me…but I'm not the only one of our friends to think so."
Sakura face ran with curiosity but decided not to ask, "Well…I think you should go for it."
Sai's face ran with amazement, "Really…it doesn't bother you?"
Sakura shook her head and gave him a smile, "I think you both to deserve to be happy and I have no problem if you do it together. But if you hurt her I'll kill you."
Sai looked at her serious face but gave a thankful smile, "Thank you Sakura"
Sakura let her smile return as they started to walk back to the lunch table with their friends, "No problem"
Lunch went by smoothly and the mood was light and full laughter as the near young adults went about their happy lives. Their minds were full of typical thoughts of high school students and there was no concern or realization of the threats surrounding them. A boy their age smirked as he silently passed through the cafeteria and stared at the group of friends. He gave a small sneer at Sasuke and returned to scoping out the space of the cafeteria. He smoothly slipped out with a bottle of water in his stolen school uniform as his white tresses hung down to his jaw line. He continued walking through the halls and he drank his water as his purple eyes scanned the details of the school. His lips tilted up as his comrade met with him towards the exit of the school, "Get a good idea of the layout?"
The young adult with another stolen school uniform gave a small nod with his bright orange hair hidden in a hat, "Orochimaru-sama should be pleased."
Suigetsu rolled his eyes as they began to leave the school, "You don't have to be so formal Juugo, you can loosen up a little."
Juugo's eyes softened a little and he gave a small nod, "I'll do my best."
Suigetsu eyed him as they walked towards a black convertible with an impatient redhead in the drivers seat, "You better not be so tense when we invade the school, you might lose your temper and go on rampage again."
Juugo sighed but gave a look of determination, "I'll be calm…I won't fail Orochimaru-sama."
Suigetsu gave a half believing nod as the redhead started yelling at them to get in the car, "Yeah, yeah we're coming. Jeez, Karin you don't have to be so bitchy all the time."
Karin quickly punched him as he slid into the car and gave a huff of annoyance, "Shut up or I'll kill you along with that pink headed freak…we have a meeting to go to."
Karin quickly sped off down the road with her two comrades in toe and thoughts full of vengeance on Sakura and perverted thoughts of Sasuke echoing through her mind.
_an hour later_
Sakura smiled as she sat in her last class of the day; she was feeling very good about herself. She truly believed she was out of harms way and felt good about telling Sai it was okay to go for Ino; Sakura wanted her friends to be as happily in love as she was. The thought of Sai and Ino got Sakura's mind curious as she remembered Sai mentioning another friend liked her. Sakura's eyes scanned through the classroom thinking over what friends were left; Shikamaru found a new girl so that left Shino, Kiba, and Chouji. Sakura narrowed her eyes analyzing their behavior and trying to think over their habits. Shino seemed far too in love with his insect studying to like a girl like Ino who hated bugs so it couldn't be him. Sakura tapped her fingers on her desk as she stared at the other two males…she couldn't figure it out. Sakura frowned as she returned to taking notes in class. Class drifted by slow and she gave an occasional glance to see if Kiba or Chouji would give any indication to her curiosity but there was nothing. Sakura contemplated giving up on the topic for the day but lifted her eyes as class ended and Kiba walked to Ino's desk. Kiba twisted his hands in nervousness as Ino looked up at him with her usual smile. Kiba tried to give his best smile and ran a hand through his hair, "Hey Ino…Um do you have plans Friday? I...My sister really wants some help…designing a new look for herself and I know you're really into fashion and everything."
Ino gave a brilliant smile at the idea of her first fashion gig, "Yeah, I'd love to! After school?"
Kiba's face immediately lit up at the idea of having her over, "Yeah that's great! Awesome!"
Sakura gave a small smile finding Kiba's excitement over being with Ino sweet but it fell as she glanced back at Sai. Sai was avoiding looking at them but she could see the disappointment in his eyes. Sakura cared for both of the friends dearly and now wasn't sure what to do about the situation; she'd fell guilty about taking sides when they were both important to her. Sakura stood from her seat as she packed her books in her briefcase; it was all up to Ino to decide who was better for her…if she had an interest in them in the first place. Sakura looked up seeing Sasuke come up to her in the corner of her eyes; she gave a smile up to her boyfriend. Sasuke gave a suspicious look sensing her mildly tense mood. She shook her head as she grabbed his hand and they started walking out of the classroom, "Not a big deal"
Sasuke paused a moment but let it go knowing that after their conversation yesterday she wouldn't lie to him so easily, "How long do you work today?"
Sakura gave a small look of disappointment, "Till closing…but I'm working with Hinata so it shouldn't be too bad."
Sasuke gave a nod knowing that meant she wouldn't have time to come over afterwards, "I'll get Dobe and we'll stop by for dinner."
Sakura gave a big smile towards his effort to spend time with her; she kissed him on the cheek as they got towards her car, "Okay"
Sasuke pulled her into him as they got to her car and gave her a long kiss, "Make sure you get your break while I'm there…"
Sakura hummed under her smile and ran her hands down his arms, "I will"
Sasuke pulled away with a smirk as Naruto and Hinata came towards them so Hinata could ride with Sakura to work. The girls waved at their boyfriends as they walked away; Sakura gave a small sigh, "Well, off to work?"
Hinata gave a small nod as she got in the passenger seat, "What else?"
Sakura gave a small laugh as she started driving off with no threatening concerns running through her head.
_two hours later_
Sakura quickly skated back to the outside bar to grab more drinks and looked at Hinata who was doing the same, "It's really busy today."
Hinata wiped her forehead with her forearm before picking up her tray, "Really hot too"
Both quickly skated off to continue to tend to their customers. The outside café was about the size of a basketball court and customers surrounded the umbrella tables. Sakura gave a small glance up at the café sign standing three stories high in the air and it's lights shining bright; Sakura wished the sign was gone so people would stop coming. She sighed as Hinata, her, and the rest of the workers continued on restlessly about their work for a couple more hours until there was hardly any customers anymore and sun was starting to set. Hinata gave a sigh of relief and leaned against a table after cleaning it, "Talk about busy…"
Sakura gave a small laugh as she fought the urge to sit down, "Yeah…I could go for a break…"
Sakura paused knowing she was suppose to wait for Sasuke and tried to stand firmly on her feet, "But I can wait…"
Hinata glanced over to see two customers walk in and gave a big smile, "No you don't."
Sakura turned around and her face filled with excitement as she saw Naruto and Sasuke walk towards the café. Sakura quickly skated over to them with a big grin on her face and two menus in hand, "Where would you like to sit?"
Naruto ran his hand around the rim of his collar trying to let some breeze in, "Where that monstrous café sign of yours offers shade."
Sakura gave a small laugh and led them to them to a table as her and Sasuke kept their eyes locked on each other. Sakura smoothly brushed her hand across Sasuke's as she handed them their menus so her boss wouldn't notice, "Usual?"
Naruto crossed his arms behind his head, "Yup!"
Sasuke nodded looking at the way Sakura's hair pulled up exposed the soft skin of her neck. Sakura looked down at him with a smile running her eyes over his lips, "I'll put in your order and have Hinata be your waitress then so I can go on break."
Sasuke lips tilted up as they nodded and Sakura skated over to her boss. Sasuke waited a moment and then stood to smoothly walk back towards the dressing room. When he turned the corner Sakura had switched out her skates for normal shoes and was leaning against the wall waiting for him. Sasuke face relaxed as he walked over to her and stood close to her cupping her face in his hands, "I didn't make you wait too long did I?"
Sakura tugged her hands on his shirt to pull him into a kiss and gave a smile, "You actually have perfect timing."
Sasuke gave her another kiss and then wrapped his arm around her waist as they started walking to the nearby park, "How long do you have?"
Sakura leaned her head into his shoulder, "Twenty minutes"
Sasuke nodded as they trailed off onto the sidewalk of the park where they met over a year ago. Sakura smiled looking over the trees that still had some cherry blossoms left on their limbs, "I love coming here, so many memories."
Sasuke smiled a little recalling all the memories they had there, "Want to relive one?"
Sakura looked up with a confused expression and he led her towards a large tree. She watched as he let go of her and pulled himself onto the first tree limb. Sakura smiled recalling the time they spent a date climbing trees and collecting leaves in autumn. She quickly went over to the tree and started climbing it with him, taking his hand to help get her to the highest point. She gave a calm smile as they sat towards the top of the tree looking over the park and the town; she looked over at him in the appreciation of him remembering their times together, "I love you"
Sasuke smiled, as her face was close to his, "I love you too"
They carefully went in for a kiss sitting fifty feet in the air with perfect privacy in such a public place. They smoothly moved to where Sasuke's back was up against the tree trunk and Sakura was sitting between his legs. They locked lips and continued to kiss in the treetops. Sakura slid her hands down his shoulders and arms, feeling the scars on his arms and pulling herself closer to him. Sasuke held his hands on the back of her neck pulling her lips into his and tracing his fingers on her soft skin. They were so caught up the physicality and love of each other they had no clue in the distance an extremely jealous redhead was watching them with binoculars. Karin gave an angry scream and slammed her fists into the ground. Her face was filled with fury as she continued to watch them and was thirsty for Sakura's blood. She gripped her hand on her phone, close to breaking it, and made a phone call, "I'm not waiting for Orochimaru's plan I need you over here now!"
Karin cursed Sakura with her eyes as she listed what she wanted to do over the phone and demanded her henchmen come immediately. Once Sakura's break was coming towards an end Karin's henchmen had arrived and she quickly headed over towards the café. Sakura smiled as her and Sasuke walked back, hand in hand, and she put her hand on the door of the dressing room to grab her skates. Sasuke pulled her in for one more kiss before releasing her to change shoes and he walked back to his table. With perfect timing Hinata placed their food down on their table as Sasuke sat back in his seat. Naruto smirked as he picked up a frie, "Hey Teme…You got a little something right there."
Sasuke's eyebrows scrunched together as he felt the spot on his neck Naruto was indicating; there was nothing. Naruto snickered, "Gotcha"
Sasuke gave him a bored look at the joke he had a hicky on his neck, "I bet you probably don't even know how to give one."
Naruto's face flushed, "Do too! Hinata's skin is just so pale an-"
Sasuke held up his hand to stop Naruto, "Never mind, don't want to know"
Naruto crossed his arms and gave a huff, "That's what I thought, my love with Hinata is too much for you to handle!"
Sasuke rolled his eyes before taking a bite of his burger, "No, I just prefer to keep private things private."
Naruto sipped his drink and raised his eyebrows, "Really…you're not curious what a shy girl like Hinata is willing to do?"
Sasuke gave a bored look, "No"
Naruto prepared to make a remark but was suddenly smacked upside the head. Naruto turned and saw Sakura, "Ouch! Sakura-chan that hurt!"
Sakura narrowed her eyes, "It'll hurt a lot worse if Hinata heard you say that. Talk about your personal life with her without her permission and I'll break your balls."
Sasuke gave a small laugh as Naruto's face lost it's color. Naruto stammered thinking of how strong Sakura was and how she could hurt him, "I-I was kidding Sakura-chan! Y-You know I'd never do anything to upset her!"
Sakura stared hard down at him and placed the check in front of him, "I know…but for that comment you're paying the check."
Naruto's face dropped as Sakura gave him a sickly sweet smile and placed the bill in front of him. Naruto slammed his head into the table and groaned as she skated away and gave a small glance up at Sasuke, "How are you not scared of her?"
Sasuke gave a smirk at his free dinner and amusement, "Because I love her and I know not to make her angry."
Naruto sighed as he pulled out his wallet, "She probably loves you too much to hurt you anyways…"
Sasuke's smirk continued as he thought over their make out session in the trees just a short time ago, "Just finish your food, we have homework to do."
About twenty feet away from the best friends Karin stood behind the fence that surrounded the café with two men dressed in black. They stood behind where the thirty-foot café sign was and had saws in hand. Karin watched as they quietly cut through the thin fence so they could directly reach the pole base of the sign. Karin glanced at Sasuke through the hole in the fence, "Make it almost ready…I need to wait for the perfect moment."
Naruto groaned as quickly shoved the rest of his food down his throat like a typical teenage guy and finished it off with his drink. He licked his lips and stood from his chair with the bill in hand and walked to the register. Sasuke put his hands in his pockets and followed behind him as Naruto paid Hinata the bill and gave her a quick kiss on the cheek when the boss wasn't looking. Sasuke turned back and made eye contact with Sakura as she prepared to clean their table, "See you tomorrow"
Sakura returned his loving gaze, "See you tomorrow"
Sasuke and Naruto slowly started making their way towards the parking lot and Naruto went on a typical rant on how wonderful Hinata was. Sasuke gave a bored glance around and continued walking. He paused a moment thinking he saw a bright spot of red behind the fence but assumed it was a bird or flowers. He cracked his neck back and forth as he prepared to get in the car.
Hinata quickly walked back the table Sakura was cleaning and gave a big smile, "It's so nice when they come to visit."
Sakura gave a big nod as her eyes softened; she picked up the container with their dishes, "Can you finish wiping that while I put the dishes in the sink?"
Hinata gave a happy nod and Sakura quickly skated off to the kitchen. She hummed as she carefully placed the dishware in the sink and let her good mood fill her senses. Life was perfect; she couldn't believe how paranoid she was being just because Karin was giving her dirty looks. Everything was perfect.
Sakura's train of thought was broken as the heard something like a screech of metal. She skated out of the kitchen and looked up to find the sound coming from the thirty-foot sign. Her eyes widened as the metal at the base started to break and slowly lean towards the direction of Hinata. Sakura quickly looked over to find Hinata paralyzed with fear. Sakura's heart raced and sped over to Hinata as gravity finally began send the monstrous sign falling through the air. Sakura jumped with all her might pushing Hinata completely out of the way and into the table. A split second after Sakura pushed Hinata to safety the pole of the sign fell with an immense force upon her left ankle slamming Sakura hard enough into the ground her head broke on the concrete and she immediately blacked out.
Sasuke's eyes widened in fear as he sat in his car prepared to leave and saw the enormous sign fall onto the café. The fence blocked their view of the restaurant but Naruto and Sasuke quickly raced out of their cars in pure fear for the ones precious to them. Once they passed into the entrance of the café Sasuke screamed, "No!"
Sasuke quickly scrambled over to Sakura to find her sprawled out across the concrete with the lower part of her left leg completely covered by the metal pole, unconscious, and blood spreading from her head and left ankle. He breathed heavy in panic and shook her trying to wake her up. He looked around in distress and looked to find the boss already calling an ambulance. His heart twisted as the blood flowing from Sakura spread more. Naruto cradled an unconscious Hinata in his arms with a small spot of blood on her temple where she crashed into the table and shook her in desperation trying to wake her. Pedestrians quickly ran over to the site to help them and other injured. Sasuke trembled hard in terror and looked up at the pedestrians, "We need to lift the sign off her!"
Pedestrians quickly went to each side of the pole of the sign as Sasuke noticed there was others crushed by the sign. Sasuke looked up at others coming to help as he weakly stood with determination racing through his heart, "You need to pull the injured away as we lift this!"
Sasuke eyes hung over Sakura and his heart raced so hard he could hardly hear but forced himself to look away and gripped his hands around the pole base. All the pedestrians got the best hold they could and Naruto looked up at them, "Alright…ready…lift!"
Sasuke's muscles screamed as they lifted it half a foot off the ground and people quickly pulled Sakura and the other injured away. The second the injured were away from the enormous sign Sasuke and the others dropped the sign back to the ground causing the ground to shake. Sasuke quickly dropped down to his knees beside Sakura getting her blood on his hands and pants. Sasuke quickly hovered over her and glanced down at her ankle…her bones were crushed. Sasuke quickly tore the bottom part of his right pant leg off and tied it tight around Sakura lower leg to help make the bleeding stop. Sasuke fought the urge to pick Sakura up in his arms knowing she must have other broken bones and he had no idea how badly her head was damaged. He ran his shaking hand over the not bloody side of her face, "You're going to be okay. It's going to be okay. You're not going to die...I'm not going to let you die."
Sasuke and Naruto glanced up at the sound of sirens and several ambulances came racing down the street. Naruto quickly lifted Hinata up in his arms and ran to place her in the ambulance. Sasuke watched in a numb pain as several paramedics hovered around Sakura getting out equipment he didn't recognize and placing her on a stretcher. He instinctively followed them towards the ambulance they were placing her in but was stopped saying he wasn't family. Sasuke mind strengthened again and prepared to argue but Naruto quickly grabbed his arm and started dragging him to the parking lot with tears in his eyes, "Already had that argument, we need to go!"
Sasuke's hands shook as he fumbled for his keys as they got towards his car. Naruto looked up at him knowing he was falling apart after seeing Sakura in such a state and couldn't handle it. Naruto quickly took his keys from him and pushed him towards the passenger side of the car ,"I'm driving!"
Sasuke quickly got in the car in the midst of his agonized haze and Naruto quickly started speeding down the road, following the ambulances. Sasuke breathed hard as he felt like there was a sword through his heart; every time he tried to think of Sakura now he could only see the bloody, broken mess lying on the concrete. He breathed hard and his vision fuzzed and his body shook. His heart was pulsing and he felt like he couldn't breathe…Naruto was saying something to him but he couldn't tell what it was. He gasped for air but felt nothing; by the time he realized he was having a panic attack he blacked out.
_author notes_
So very dramatic for a third chapter but it is a sequel and I've had the café scene in my head since before I started writing A New Life. I'm also super sorry on my late updates but I've been having some serious design projects at school with work on top…I don't really have a social life anymore. Please tell what you think, reviews seriously encourage me and I respond! I also know it's a bit of a cliffhanger but I'm working on the possible finale of Forgotten now so please be patient!
