Gajeel had always had a crush on Levy ever since he could remember. He was just nine years old when he met her in elementary school. He was both tall and big for his age which gave him a menacing look to the other kids, that was except for Levy. She was the only one who talk to him and shared snacks with him. Their friendship began one cold winter day at recess. Levy was as usually reading a book which the other kids thought she was weird because recess was playing and reading everyone knew that. Levy was completely entranced with the her book, Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone. She had got the book from her grandmother who was a librarian, and who also started Levy love of books and reading.

Levy wasn't paying attention to the two recess bullies that were quietly approaching her from behind with snow balls in their hands. They thought it would be funny to attack the weird book worm, they were also hoping to get laughs from their group of followers that were intently watching them snickering to themselves.

"Ready." the leader of the two, James, said turning to his friend, Marco who nodded and gave him a wide smile showing his crooked front teeth. They both threw their snowballs at the unsuspecting girl. Levy felt something cold hit her from behind, she heard laughing too. She shook her head she thought they were done torturing her,, a new kid had came just last week. But of course how could they give up their most favorite play toy. Levy remembered all the awful things they have done to her. This was child's play compared to what they had done before. One time at their field trip to park they had pretended to be nice and lead her into the forest just to leave her there. Levy had been there before and quickly found her way back.

She did arrive she heard one of the kids say. "Ugh I hoping she wouldn't come back no one wants her here."

Levy made it seem as though she wasn't fazed by their comment but went home and cried. She didn't know why they hated her so much. Her only refuge was at the library with her grandmother, reading books and drowning out her sadness.

But wasn't even the worst they had done. Levy remembers in art class they had a contest for best art piece. Levy worked hard on her's for week trying to get it perfect. She knew she couldn't win because their was a Lillian, girl in her class who loved to draw she was a natural artist. But Levy had done her best she decided to do a scene from her one of her favorite books Black Beauty which was also her grandfather favorite book, he had given her a copy before her died. When LEvy looked at her finished product she knew she wasn't a picasso but she fell in love with her painting she had never been more proud in her life. Levy was surprised when the teacher said she won and told the class. "This is the best I've seen in years." Levy remembers the Lillian crying after class and her friends trying to comfort her. They glared at Levy vowing in their minds to make the little freak pay for what she did to Lillian.

So the next day Levy found her painting totally ripped to shreds. Levy never cried infront of people but this was different she remembered all the weeks she had worked on it, she had calluses on her fingers from holding a paint brush some much . Starting and starting over again if she felt it wasn't good enough, and then she remembered she was going to lay this on her grandfather grave in honor of his favorite book. Remember all of this a more she couldn't keep the tears in, they flowed free from her eyes quietly.

"Levy hun what wrong?" her teacher asked putting her hand on Levy's shoulder. Levy turned to her and she saw that she was crying, her teacher's eye fell to the ripped up piece of art. Her teacher knew that the kids could be cruel just not this cruel. She turned to the rest of the student and said. "Who did this?" All of the kids looked shyly away from her intense glare. "So they know but won't tell." she thought.

"Well if no one confesses no recess for a whole week starting know we will stay inside and read or write." She heard whimpers and complaining. All eyes fell on Levy.

"This is all that reading weirdo fault no one touched her picture she probably did it herself just to get us all in trouble." a boy yelled pointing angrily at Levy.

Levy couldn't take any more and stormed out of the classroom wiping tears from her eyes. For the week that they were punished , their bullying became more cruel and sulte so it could happen right under the teacher's nose. Levy repressed that awful memory standing up looking at her attacker and said. "Wow you guys must have ran out of ideas because even my little brother could have thought of something better than that. It is a pity I thought you guy were more creative than that." The two boys looked at her and scowled.

"Did you guys hear someone?" James said mocking ignoring Levy.

"No James I didn't hearing anybody but I did hear the sound of some wild animal." Marco replied shrugging his shoulders.

"You mean the really ugly one over there with the blue hair." said pointing to Levy with a wide goofy smile.

"Haha very funny guys that was so lame." Levy interrupted their little game rolling her eyes.

This made James more agitated pick up a rock this time he said to her. " Don't you know when to shut your stupid mouth freck."

"Yeah just shut up you're gonna make it worse for yourself." Marco said looking at Levy with a frown.

"You can't make me shut up." Levy answered them both.

"Oh yes I can." James said lifting the rock. Levy eyes widened she didn't think he would throw it at her, they have never went further than just pushing and shoving. James smirked at her reaction.

"You're scared aren't you ?" James asked her with a smug look on his face.

"No I'm not." Levy answered with a frown.

"Yes you are." James said with an amused smile.

"No I'm not." Levy replied back starting it over again.

"Yes you …." but James was cut off by Gajeel who said. "Leave her alone what did she do to you." James growled at Gajeel. The boy was obvious bigger then so he wasn't sure what he was going to do.

"Stay out of this new kid this is none of you business." Marco snapped. Gajeel glared at the boy making him cower a bit. Gajeel step towards James and Marco making them steep back. He glared at them and they glared back. Finally James broke their intense glare war and turned to Levy and said. "I'm not done with you." and stalked off with the Marco and the rest of his goonies trailing behind.

"They gonna hate you know." Levy said to Gajeel.

"Yeah so what." Gajeel said answering back at her.

"So their are to pick on you like they do to me." she said softly.

"Well guess what I don't care they can pick on me all they want it because I never gonna cry." he said trying to sound tough. Levy giggle a bit at his show.

"My name Levy. What yours?" Levy said smiling at Gajeel, who taking back a bit by the beauty of her smile.

"Gajeel." he answered. Levy nodded and said "Gajeel you wanna read with me." he shrugged in answer.

From that day on those two would sit and read. It was Levy who showed Gajeel the hobby he would have for a life time.

"What have you go to day?" He asked.

Levy pulled out a book. Gajeel read it's title. "1001 Poems." Gajeel made a face.

"Ew ew poem are nasty, why not an adventure like Treasure Island." Gajeel

"Poetry is not icky it nice and I like." Levy answered. "Plus we've read Treasure Island a thousand times."

"Well I like it." Gajeel answered in protest.

Levy shushed him and began to read ;

The question that is asked the most; we hear it everyday,

"What time Is it?" they want to know, and then they go away.

It's time for bed, it's time for work, or time to feed the fishes,

It's time to take your medicine, or wash and dry the dishes.

Time in seconds, time in hours, so many freckles past a hair,

depending on the zone, or whether daylights savings there.

Time is measured many ways from minutes to months,

Time is what keeps everything from happening at once!

A time to live, a time to die, a time for having fun,

Clocks and calendars alike, all scheduled by the sun.

Intervals that can't be hurried, will not be denied,

a season that we know that's coming, as surely as the tide.

If there ever comes a time when time will be no more,

I wonder how we'll know to quit, or when it was before.

Do we hurry? Do we loaf? It depends upon the time...

Had we started earlier, we'd be finished with this rhyme.

"That was lame Levy." Gajeel answered.

"FIne I'll read another one." And she began ;

Tinkle, Tinkle little car

How I wonder what you are.

Leaking oil every day

Having it your own way.

Going up hills real slow

I don't want you any mo'.

Tinkle, Tinkle little car

Boy, what a lemon you are.

"I don't get it." Gajeel said.

"Fine why don't make one up." Levy said angrily.

"Fine I will." Gajeel looking across the playground. He spotted James and smirked,he recited

There once was boy whose name was James.

He thought he was cool but he was really lame

What a shame the boy named James was awfully mean

He didn't know had holes in his jeans.

"You're really good if you made that up on the whim."Levy said to him. Gajeel smiled no has ever told him he was good at anything exsect for baseball, which his father made him do.

"I guess poetry isn't that bad." He said to Levy. She unknowingly sparked Gajeel interest in poems. Gajeel loved spending time with Levy grandmother she was a small woman with bright blue hair and warm eyes. She use to read them books all day was in Levy grandmother's the dusty old library was where Levy had had her first kiss it. I was the summer before 6th grade year. Levy and Gajeel looking at a book together. Gajeel didn't know how what overcame him one minute he was laughing with Levy the next minute he lips were attached to her's. Levy looked at him and blushed he felt so embarrassed that he got up a left apologizing to her multiple times. Gajeel didn't think he could face her again.

That year in middle school a rift had come between Gajeel and Levy, she was alway by herself or being followed around by Jet and Gajeel was stuck with the in crowd of baseball players. THey never talked anymore except for the occasional hi, hello or wave. Then came summer of 8th grade which changed them. Gajeel had grown taller and grew into his looks. He was first to have his voice crack. Levy was still small and petite but she grew some breast. Gajeel always seem to dating some random girl causing more rift between the two. Levy began dating Jet that same year but they broke up later on. Levy spent most of her time in the library. Ninth grade year Levy grandmother died. Gajeel didn't hear about until one of the teachers accounted to the class. Gajeel felt a tug at his heart he had always like the old woman to think she was gone he just couldn't believe it. THen he wonder how Levy was doing and if she was alright. When he had got home he debated whether to call her or not. He was still embarrassed about the kiss. So he decide to talk to her through letters and poems. That was the only way.
