Natalya's POV
Natalya Arklovakya is an adopted girl. A tainted war child, a filthy street rat, another mouth to feed that no one in her country wanted. She was one out of thousands of children left alone without parents after the war. Her father the most beautiful caring man died on the battlefield on a cold unforgiving winter on the border of Russia, which was back then known as the Soviet Union.
Her mother was perfect in the eyes of Natalya, but the death of her husband hit her harder and she was without job and no income to support herself and her daughter. Natalya's mother was at rock bottom, and committed suicide the night before Christmas; drowning herself in a bathtub leaving Natalya all alone in the streets at the tender age of seven. Natalya was emitted to an orphanage, but fought constantly with the other children for food. She was beginning to act like a savage animal stuck in a cage, but the head mistress of the orphanage wasn't even aware of the admission of Natalya. She was just like the other dirty, smelly children that the head mistress wanted to get rid of. Natalya's childhood was terrible; she was bullied constantly by the older boys for food, and had bruises and cuts on her body from the fights and chores she had to do. Her beautiful hair was grim, and she smelled like a farm animal.
She was ten years old when she was first groped by a middle age man that worked at the orphanage. He touched inappropriately and it made her feel uncomfortable, she cried when he touched her developing breast and nearly screamed if it wasn't for him taping her mouth shut. She's hated men ever since that day, she learned to defend herself with anything sharp: sticks, bottles, and knives. She first murdered at the age of twelve, when the man's kissing and touching went to far. She stabbed him without regret and felt the pleasure on inflicting pain at the man that made her suffer.
She went crazy at thirteen, and escaped from the orphanage at fourteen. She stole, and worked to feed herself and almost prostituted herself at fifteen. If it wasn't for her Prince of the Sun, she would have lost her virginity completely to a disgusting, smelly scumbag of forty. He punched the pedophile in the face breaking his nose for fondling Natalya. She felt disgusted with herself for doing what she did, but she was hungry, tired, and at rock bottom. She was a sack of bones, wearing a loose shirt and pant's that didn't cover her up at all for the upcoming winter. She had bags under her eyes, and shivered when the wind slapped her face with a chilling blow. The blue eye teen looked at her with pity. He took of his leather bomber jacket and handed it to her. She didn't take it, but looked at him with relief. He wrapped the jacket around her small, frail figure and handed her a paper bag. She opened it, and found what look like a sandwich.
"Its a burger," he told her in Belorussian. He told her to eat it and she quickly tore of the wrapping and took a big bite out of it, desperately sinking her teeth on the warm bread and juicy meat. She gorged into the meal as saliva and juice dribbled down her chin. She finished the burger in relief, but immediately puked afterwards. Her stomach couldn't handle the meal since she hasn't eaten in a while. She was embarrassed, but her Prince of the Sun held her platinum hair as she threw up the food. Natalya was exhausted and for once was shown an act of kindness. Her eyes where tearing at the man in front of her and she bawled her eyes out as she fell to her knees on the cold snow. She cried for her parents, for her brutal life, for her loss of innocence, and for the growing hate of people. The golden boy kneeled down and hugged her, he was cold as ice but his arms made her feel safe and wanted. She's kept that bomber jacket ever since either wearing it or keeping it away in a box with her precious objects and diary.
Natalya was later adopted by her father's best friend. He promised her father that he would take care of her after he risked his life to save him. He just didn't know where Natalya was taken after her mother died. He spent years on trying to find her and after he did he took her immediately home to his wife, and daughter Kat, and son Ivan. She felt loved by her new family, something she hasn't felt for years. She was cold and distant to them at first, sometimes making Kat cry, but the warmth and care of the family melted her icy walls down.
Years passed by and Kat and her grew inseparable. Natalya defended Kat on numerous occasions against other people taking advantage of her sister's kindness. She grew up to admire her older brother, secretly harboring a crush on him. They weren't related, so it wasn't bad to fall in love with Ivan. She felt though it was morally wrong, besides Ivan was head over heels for Lien and at the time a friend of Kat and Natalya.
Natalya has gone out with other men, but they weren't like her brother or her childhood Prince. She's had trouble talking to boys because of her trauma that all men where evil, but therapy, medication, and supporting friends and family helped her overcome her fears. She's only had two boyfriends in the past. Her first boyfriend was the energetic, slightly pervy Korean Im Yong Soo. They met near the end of their sophomore year of high school when Yong Soo declared his undying love to the blonde in front of everyone in the school cafeteria. Embarrassed would be an understatement, Natalya was mortified to have been told this in front of all her friends, siblings and peers. Her friend Elizabeta meanwhile wolf whistled and gave her the suggesting glance. Natalya being Natalya shot him down in front of everybody. That didn't stop the obnoxious, loud-spoken Korean. From that day on he followed her to every one of her classes and would walk her home from school until she would agree to go out on a date with him.
She finally cracked on the third day, and literally screamed at him while pointing a knife to his juggler telling him she would go on only one date and if she hated it he would have to stop pursuing her. Yong Soo grinned from ear to ear and promise to pick her up at seven at her house. He showed up to her home on time bringing her a sunflower and charming her parents off with his dimpled face and words. Natalya didn't admit that she ended up liking her date with Yong Soo, and after that she grew fond of the Korean showing up at her house to help her with math or walking with her to her classes. He ended up asking her to be his girlfriend a week before school ended. She happily agreed and they dated for about five months before they decided to both call it off.
They where in their Junior year and they both where drifting slightly apart with other preoccupations and no longer spending time together. They fought more than usual in September and would fight almost constantly in October. When having their fights Yong Soo would end up calling her a selfish bitch, and Natalya would yell at him that he was an annoying asshole. They broke off on the last week of October and Natalya spent the whole day in her room locked up crying with Kat consoling her. She later moved on telling herself she could do better and she was an independent woman who didn't need a man. That bravo didn't last long when she ended up dating her brother's best friend Toris, a month later who was a year older than her in high school. They've called it off twice already, but they both ended up together again. At the moment they decided to take a break, but Natalya plans to call Toris when all the shit that's been going on gets resolved.
Suvi pokes Natalya in the back with the eraser of her pencil. "What was the answer to question thirteen again?" Suvi asks, in a panic look.
"Feces color depends on what the pet is eating and the health they are exhibiting," Natalya replies. She was currently testing Suvi for her upcoming biology test. Suvi was studying to become a vet and Natalya showed up at her school dorm to help her study. Suvi almost memorized all the definitions and the general parts of the body of some mammals, and reptiles.
Natalya finished prepping Suvi, and they where both laying on one of Suvi's coaches while each eating a pint of ice-cream.
"You need any help with your classes?" Suvi asked Natalya as she scooped a spoonful of rocky road to her mouth.
Natalya shook her head, she was acing her career choice. Studying to be an architecture was her dream, ever since of traveling to different parts of the world for her seventeenth birthday with her sister and best friend Suvi. She ended up adoring the tall buildings in Chicago, falling in love with Paris, and being awe-stricken by the magnificent buildings in Abu Dhabi. Yes, she wanted to make a work of art that everyone would know of, that everyone would remember and praise.
Natalya's phone rang and she picked up her blue cell to answer the call. It was Elizabeta; Wy has woken up.
"That's great!" Suvi cheered. Natalya flashing a small grin as she listened to Elizabeta, but immediately frowned when she heard that Wy was in trauma.
"Can you bring some of her things over? It'll make her feel more at home," Elizabeta asked.
"Yeah," she replied. Will be there in an hour." Natalya explained to Suvi they where going to Wy's school dorm to get her things to bring to the hospital. They ran across the street to go into the building where the other students where staying in. Natalya knocked on the door to have Michelle open up.
"What's up?" The pigtail island girl opened her dorm to have her friends come over unexpectedly.
"Wy just woke up, we need to take her things to the hospital." Michelle grabbed one of Wy's duffle bags that where in the closet and tossed it to Suvi. They walked into Wy's room and Natalya began to take pairs of shirts and pants from the drawers. She folded them into the bag and Suvi grabbed Wy's stuff koala, and drawing book with her paints and brushes.
"Let's go." Natalya motioned Suvi to go.
"Wait!" Michelle grabbed Natalya by the arm and gave her a sealed letter. "This is for Wy."
"What is it?" She asked, inspecting the envelope.
Michelle shrugged her shoulders. "It was left in the mailbox addressed to her. I didn't open it. Must be from her brother?"
Natalya took it, and Suvi waved good- bye as they drove off to the hospital. They where stuck in traffic much to Natalya's dismay; she hated waiting. She contained zero patience and had road rage every once in a while.
"Woah!" Suvi grabbed the handle on the roof of the car. "Calm down Nat! I don't want either of us to end up in a hospital we already got someone locked in there."
She stop beeping at the idiot in front of her. "I'll try not to get us killed, but there are some idiots who should reconsider retaking their drivers license. This moron in front of me doesn't know how to drive, and the jerk in back of me driving the huge ass truck is freakin' tailgating me!" Natalya was fuming and ready to give anyone the bird. Biting her lower lip trying to get away from the guy thats driving behind her.
"Whose the motherfucker thats driving behind me? Why the hell is he following us?" Natalya shriek, scaring the beejezus out of Suvi.
"Calm down, Nat." Suvi tried to lower her friend's temper. She now understood why Kat refuse to let Natalya drive her to places. "He's probably finding the exit to the expressway like you are."
Getting out of the expressway, far away from traffic Natalya's anger seem to dissolve while Suvi got less tense at Nat's driving.
"There's the hospital," Suvi pointed at the red brick building. "Just find the parking lot."
Natalya entered the open lot to notice the black truck that was following her at the expressway still hot on her heels. "Suvi," Natalya said, "that person is still following us."
Suvi turned around in her seat to see the truck behind them. "Just park Nat. I'm sure there coming to the same hospital as we are."
Natalya immediately swerved causing Suvi to hit her head on the glove compartment box. "What the hell!" Suvi shrieked. "Drive properly Natalya."
"Sorry," she shrugged, clearly not giving a crap. "I was going to miss the open parking space." Natalya parked between a red Chevrolet and a silver Jeep.
"My head," Suvi moaned. "You busted my brain, and I need it for my test tomorrow."
"Your head is fine." Natalya muttered, turning off the car and opening the side doors to get Wy's duffle bag out of the car. "Stop whining. Here take this." She tossed Suvi a stress ball as she got out of the passenger seat. Natalya locked the car and lead the way to the hospital as Suvi trailed behind her.
"Where did the truck go?" Natalya asked.
Suvi shrugged, "Beats me. I told you it wasn't a big deal, worrying all for nothing about that driver supposably following you. Jesus Nat, you freak out over nothing when driving like a drunk maniac!"
"Your forehead has a huge ass bruise, its turning purple," Natalya bluntly told her. "Besides, I don't drive as bad as Feli."
"Feli just gets distracted when driving and tends to go twenty over the speed limit," Suvi said. "She doesn't get road rage."
"Feli is Feli," Natalya replied. "She's never mean to anyone, even her nasty rude twin Lovino."
Suvi sighed, taking a compact mirror from her purse. Crying internally at the purple bruise on her forehead. "Its so big!" Suvi pointing at her forehead.
"Be grateful it isn't a hickey, so stop complaining!"
"I'd rather have a hickey then a huge bruise that's in plain view."
"Just cover it up with make-up. No one will notice," Natalya said, passing by the hospital's main desk.
"Don't we need to know what room Wy's in?" Suvi asked.
Natalya shook her head. "Elizabeta texted me the room number and what floor there on." She pushed the button to the elevator and went inside the one signaling to go up. She pressed the button for the seventh floor and they arrived as Suvi went to ask a nurse for the location to the room C301.
"Knock. Knock. Someone order a pizza?" Natalya flashed Elizabeta a smile as she and Suvi came inside the plain room. "Looks pretty sad in here."
"You have no idea," Elizabeta responded, as she took the duffel bag from Suvi. Natalya peered at Wy's sleeping soundly under the covers.
"What happened?" Natalya asked.
"When Wy woke up, she went berserk. She started yelling, and crying the nurses had to rush and give her a shot to knock her out," Elizabeta explained. "She was probably having flashbacks on what happened, but she remembers who I am at least. I ended up calming her down until she went to sleep."
"It'll be alright Liz. I'm sure we'll all be able to help Wy get through this," Suvi reassured Elizabeta. "Here. We kind of borrowed these from Michelle's vase when she wasn't looking." Suvi handed Liz a bouquet of half-dead flowers making her giggle. Elizabeta got up to put them in a vase filled with water. "About that pizza Nat, where is it?" Elizabeta asked.
"Oh, Suvi and I ate the pepperoni pizza that you asked for on the road. You wouldn't believe how much traffic there was, that works up an appetite. You don't have to worry the pizza was delicious. I didn't drink the can of pepsi though." Natalya tossed the can to a pissed off Elizabeta.
"Thanks," Elizabeta grumbled, opening the can to take a swig of the soda.
"This is for Wy as well," Natalya showed Elizabeta the envelope as she put it beside the vase of flowers. "Michelle told me it might be from Wy's older brother Jett the one whose studying abroad in Australia."
Elizabeta took rabbit plush toy from the duffle bag placing the rodent on Wy's bed. "We have to talk."
"What is it?" Natalya asked.
"Peter somehow snuck in Wy's room when I was gone and when she was unconscious," Elizabeta explained.
"What did he want?" Suvi asked with worry.
"He threatened to kill me the bastard," Elizabeta said, grinding her teeth. "He jumped out the window when I screamed at him to leave."
"He didn't drink her blood or hurt her?" Suvi asked.
Elizabeta shook her head, "I don't think he did, but he gave her a necklace that's sealed to her neck. I've tried breaking and cutting it, but it won't budge."
"Let me see it," Natalya asked, taking out a pocket knife.
Elizabeta moved to the side of the bed and showed Natalya a silver necklace with a turquoise stone on it. Natalya took her knife and placed it under the silver and tried to cut it with the blade, but it wasn't slicing the silver metal.
"What the hell is this," Natalya exclaimed. "My knife isn't breaking that stupid necklace of her neck."
"I've been researching on the internet about that necklace Peter gave her," Elizabeta explained. "Wy's binded to Peter no matter what. That necklace keeps the vampire's mate protected from other creatures that want claim that person."
"No way," Natalya was appalled. "Wy's fate is to a cold-blooded killer?"
"Yes," Elizabeta replied, looking sad. "There's little we can do to help her."
"There is a shitload we can to help her," Natalya retorted. "Where sending her to Australia to Jett. He won't find her there."
Elizabeta was gazing at the white hospital tiles, "I wish it were that easy Nat. He'll find her, that necklace still indicates to other creatures that she belongs to him. I don't know if that's a tracking device as well?"
"Well just have to find out later, but where going to send her and you both to Australia."
"Why me!" Elizabeta exclaimed. "Wy's the one in serious trouble."
Natalya rolled her eyes, "If you didn't remember, you also have a creepy bat going after you too. It'll be better because you have a chance of saving yourself from being permanently connected with that vampire going for you."
"I just can't leave. I have school, you guys, my life is here!" Elizabeta was getting teary for the first time in front of them. "I don't want to run away like a little girl."
"Liz, at times its better to retreat then face you enemy head on."
"Let me think about it okay, but Wy going to Australia is a must."
"Okay, let me call Toris about some cheap plane tickets." Natalya walked out of the room and into the hospital halls as she dialed her boyfriend's number. Waiting for him to pick up.
"Hey Natalya," she heard her boyfriends smooth voice talk to her. "What's up?"
"Hey kaxahhe I need you to tell me if there are any cheap plane tickets heading for Australia?"
"There might be," Toris responded. Natalya hearing the typing of a computer in the background. "There's a flight to Melbourne, Australia tickets are fairly cheap. It departs this week, it gives you four days to prepare your baggage."
"Thanks kaxahhe. Are you flying the plane?" Natalya asked.
"No, I'm flying a plane to Paris that day," Toris replied. "Hey Nat, we need to talk."
Natalya heard the uneasiness in his voice, "Okay, we can talk after your flight to Paris."
"N-no," Toris stuttered. "Can you meet me tomorrow at the Russian cafe."
"Alright," Natalya replied, confused at Toris' outburst. "I'll see you tomorrow at eleven then."
"Okay. Bye Natalya," Toris said.
"Buh-bye," she replied, snapping her phone shut while walking back in the room. "Toris found a pair of tickets to Melbourne, Australia that are pretty cheap. The plane departs at the end of the week though."
"Four days is plenty of time for you to decide Liz," Suvi said. "I'm pretty sure Wy would love to see her brother as well."
"Alright," Elizabeta sighed. "How much are the tickets?"
"Toris didn't tell me about the price, but I'll ask him tomorrow. He told me to meet him at the cafe. I wonder what he wants?"
"He wants 'The Talk,'" Elizabeta giggled at her friends expression.
"Not funny," Natalya threw a couch pillow at the brunette.
"Hey its snowing," Suvi said, interrupting the minor girl fight. Natalya peered at Wy's tossing and turning.
"It looks like she's having a bad dream," Natalya said. "Should we wake her up?"
Elizabeta came to the side of Wy's bed and gently shook the girl up. Wy shot out of bed, eyes red and face holding fear.
"Shhh," Elizabeta said, calming Wy down. "It was just a dream."
Wy sighed in relief and laid down on the hospital bed staring at Natalya and Suvi. She gave them a small smile, "missed you guys. Didn't think I'd get to see you."
"Don't say that," Suvi said, eyes brimming with tears. "Of course we've missed you. All of us have missed you. Even Michelle can't stop calling us at midnight telling us how much she misses having her roommate get up in the middle of night to bake cookies or paint."
"That's nice to hear. Anything happen?" Wy asked, clearly referring to Peter.
"We've decided," Natalya said. "To take you and Elizabeta to visit your brother Jett in Australia. You'll be safe over there, he won't know your missing."
"My brother lives in Sydney, I can give him a call later today about our little trip. I'm sure he won't suspect anything," Wy said, twirling the necklace between her fingers. "Who gave this to me?"
Elizabeta decided to tell Wy what happen, while Natalya and Suvi just stood there saying nothing. Wy was shocked, finally telling her friends that she would pack her bags as soon as she as release from the hospital.
"I hate him," Wy said, anger clearly present. "I want him to leave me alone."
"We all do," Natalya responded.
"When am I leaving?"
"The end of this week."
