BlairPOV-
''You're like a little love sick puppy,'' Quinn leans against the counter, propping her chin on her hand, matching my position.
''I could say the same about you,'' I continue staring at Ryder.
We're in the kitchen, watching Ryder and Puck play with Noah.
''I'm glad you two have saved up enough money to move.''
So am I.
''It's not much bigger than this place,'' I explain ,''But his parents will pay first and last month's rent. And it has two bedrooms.''
''Well, I'm happy for you two. Should I be expecting wedding bells soon? Maybe another baby?''
''Definitely not,'' I quickly shake my head as she laughs.
''Well, you two are great parents,'' she nods towards Noah ,''He's happy, he's healthy, and you two are doing everything you can for him.''
''So… what about you and Puck?''
''The date for the official ceremony is set in September,'' she sighs, ''And you know you're invited of course.''
''I appreciate it,'' I smile ,''You'll be invited to my wedding, too.''
Even if it is a few years away.
''Have you and Puck decided to adopt,'' I question, noticing her nervously bite her lip.
''That's actually what we were discussing on the way over here. We were thinking of looking into surrogacy,'' she begins ,''And we wanted to know if you'd do it.''
''Oh.''
I probably should say more than that, but I'm at a loss for words.
''You don't have to do it,'' Quinn says quietly ,''I know that it is a lot to ask. That's why I asked you, and Puck asked Ryder. I understand that it is a lot, especially with you starting NYADA soon. So feel free to say no. I just… we didn't know where else to go. We're already considering adoption, but… Puck and I would really like a child that is directly a part of one of us.''
''I'll talk it over with Ryder. Besides, I don't even know if I'm going to get in.''
''Please, Blair. I've seen your dancing. There's no way that you will not get into that dance program. Look, if you can't do it, we'll understand. We just thought that it would be better to ask someone that we know first, and could see as needed. We'll pay for the doctor visit, hospital bills, and even maternity clothes. And, if you are looking for other compensation, then we are willing to pay. We just really want a baby, Blair.''
She looks at Noah, a sense of longing in her eyes.
It's not easy. Ryder and I barely get any sleep. And the apartment is hardly ever as clean as I'd like it to be. There are temper tantrums, tears, and nights where he just won't sleep in his crib. There are messy shirts from him not wanting to eat his food, and spilling it on one of us instead. And my plans were definitely delayed.
But this is one of the most rewarding things I have ever experienced. I love being a mom. Yes, I'm a lot younger than I'd planned on. But I wouldn't change a thing.
And I guess Quinn just wants to experience all of that.
''It's not easy,'' I stare at my son ,''I mean, he's getting better at walking. And he's eating solid foods. But… I have no idea what I'm doing. At all. I'm not saying this to discourage you. Because I love Noah more than I love myself. It's just really, really overwhelming sometimes.''
Sometimes it makes my head spin.
''But you're making it work. I know you're only holding down one job now, and Ryder is balancing parenting, work, and school. But you're doing it,'' she puts a hand on my shoulder ,''Look, what's your biggest dream for yourself?''
''I want to perform. I love it. Singing, dancing…. I want that.''
I think I've always wanted that.
''And you will get there. You've got the determination and the talent. I believe in you,'' she grins at me.
I love dad and Kurt. They have done everything for me. And no one can replace my mom, but Quinn is exactly the person I need to talk to in moments like this.
''Thank you,'' I smile, staring at my ring ,''I'd like to just break out into the business, start Noah in school, get a bigger apartment, and then Ryder and I can get married.''
My plan has changed a lot in the past few years, but some things never will.
''Well, I'll let you know my decision. Our decision. I'll talk to Ryder tonight,'' I look to where he is rolling a ball towards Noah ,''And we'll take it from there.''
''Take as much time as you need,'' Quinn then turns to Puck ,''Puck, we'd better go. Before we miss our reservations.''
''Right,'' he nods.
We say our goodbyes, and Quinn gives me a final hug, whispering in my ear, ''Thank you so much for even considering this. It means a lot.''
''No problem,'' I honestly respond.
I just have to see how Ryder feels.
''I think I'm going to go blonde,'' I stare in the mirror, pulling my hair off my shoulders before letting it fall.
Ryder puts his toothbrush away, moving behind me and wrapping his arms around my waist.
''Why,'' he stares into the bathroom mirror with me, his chin on my shoulder ,''I like this.''
''A little change never hurt anyone,'' I shrug my free shoulder.
''Well, if you want to dye or bleach your hair, okay. But maybe red instead,'' he smirks.
''We'll see. If I even want to change my hair,'' I place my hands on top of his.
There's a silence, just the sound of our breathing, before Ryder speaks again.
''So… are we going to ignore the issue?''
I guess we really can't.
''The surrogacy,'' I raise an eyebrow, and he nods ,''I guess we'd have to talk about it at some point.''
''They did say they'd be willing to pay us. And we could use the money,'' he reminds me.
''True,'' I sigh ,''But I don't think I could accept it. And Quinn has done a lot for me. I'd love to be able to help them, even without being payed.''
''But are you sure about this? You had a hard enough time giving Gracie up.''
That is true….
''I want to help them, though. I know that if the situations were reversed, Quinn would do the same for us,'' I insist.
I know she would. And Ryder does, too.
''I don't know…,'' he hesitates before meeting my eyes in the mirror.
''Do you remember the feeling of seeing Grace for the first time? What it was like to hold Noah for the first time? If we can help them experience that, then why shouldn't we?''
Ryder's silent, thinking about the pros and cons most likely.
''Look, you are going to be involved in this more than I would. You'd carry, and deliver the baby. So, whatever you want to do, I'm in. If you want to do this for them, or if you don't, then I am behind you. But can I suggest that you don't make a decision until the morning? Sleep on it,'' Ryder recommends, pressing a kiss to my neck ,''And we can talk about it when we both get home tomorrow.''
''Yeah. Yeah, that sounds good,'' I nod.
Besides, it gives me time to talk to the one person that I will always trust to help me when I'm making decisions.
BPOV-
''Hey.''
I look up to see Blair leaning against the doorframe of Kurt and my bedroom.
''Hey,'' I pat the bed, silently telling her to come sit next to me ,''Kurt let you in?''
''Yeah,'' she sits next to me ,''I heard your glee club one regionals. Congrats.''
''Thanks,'' I smile ,''Jake and Marley really helped though.''
I won't be going back to work until next season. hey hired a sub to take over my job as an English teacher for the rest of the year, and Jake and Marley took over glee for me.
''But you got those kids too regionals, and most of them have never competed before. Don't forget that.''
''Well thank you, honey. Now, what can I do for you,'' I set the book I've been working on on my nightstand.
''Well… Puck and Quinn are considering surrogacy so that they can have a child. And… they want me to be the surrogate.''
''I know,'' I continue when Blair looks confused, ''She asked me if I thought you'd even consider doing it.''
''Oh,'' she looks at her fingers, then up at me ,''What did you say?''
''Well, I made it very clear that it was left up to you and Ryder, but I thought that you would consider it.''
''I just don't know what to do,'' she explains ,''I may get into NYADA. I can't exactly dance if I'm heavily pregnant. And dancing is my dream. Then again, I really want to help Puck and Quinn. I love being a parent.''
''I know the feeling,'' I admit.
Of all of the things that I have accomplished in my life, being a dad who is always there for his kids is the most important.
''Look,'' I put a hand on her shoulder ,''You are the only one that can make that decision. You and Ryder. No matter what, I will support you.''
Besides, this can't be easy for you, either.
''Thanks. I needed to hear that. You're a good dad,'' she gives a small grin.
''Thank you,'' I press a kiss to her forehead.
In all honesty, Kurt and I would have helped Puck and Quinn out if we could. We know what it's like to desperately want a child, only to be disappointed.
But we love of six of the kids the same. In fact, when Grace is about five or six, we're planning on adopting again. After all, Kurt is absolutely the only one that I would ever want to raise kids with.
Originally we'd planned on looking into adoption at the end of this year, but with Grace and my hospital bills, and physical therapy for me, Kurt and I have enough on our plates. Not to mention helping out with the cost of college tuition for Rory, Liam and Jade, and we've already started saving for Grace and Jacob.
''So,'' Blair speaks, breaking me from my thoughts ,''When do you go back to physical therapy?''
''Tomorrow. Why?''
''Can I go with you? It would give Kurt enough time to go to the studio and work on his fashions and set up for the show. And… you would be there for me every step of the way. The least that I can do is be there for you.''
''I'd love for you to come with me,'' I admit.
''Great,'' she stands, ''Now, I am going to go make lunch for you and the kids. I'll be right back.''
She leaves then, leaving me alone to read some more of my book.
I may not agree with every single choice that she has made, but I couldn't be more proud of who she has grown up to be. She's taken everything life has thrown at her, and managed to work her way through it.
Something I don't think I could have done.
I'm proud of all of the kids, but watching the people that she and Rory have grown into?
That's what makes the parenting worth it.
Kurt and I both agreed that if neither of us end up where we want to be when everything is said and done, the one thing we can proudly say that we followed through on is making sure our kids believe in themselves. After all, we didn't always believe in ourselves, so we won't let our kids feel the same.
That's one thing that I will always be proud of myself for.
So what do you think of the surrogacy proposal? And Rory-Kurt bonding in the next chapter, plus a Klaine date.
