''What is this show even about,'' Ryder whispers in my ear, an arm wrapped around me.
Noah's sitting on the floor, eating his food and completely absorbed in the show.
''Who cares,'' I lean into my boyfriend's embrace, ''It's keeping him quiet.''
He laughs quietly, pressing a kiss to my head.
We haven't talked about the wedding, choosing to save that for when Noah goes to sleep.
''So,'' I begin, looking at him ,''How was your day?''
''Fine,'' he shrugs ,''Work was pretty hectic. This mother came in with her five kids, and wanted a session done. But it got me to thinking. Maybe we could have more kids one day.''
''One day,'' I agree ,''When we're both established in jobs.''
''Right. But how was your day?''
''Brody called. He's getting married in June, and wanted to know if I would go. I told him probably, but I really want you to be there.'
''Alright. If it's on a Saturday, I should be able to go. Anything else happen,'' he takes my hand, playing with my fingers ,''Anything else happen?''
''There's a mother-child event at Jacob's school in the first week of May. And I told Jacob I'd go with him,'' I look at our entwined fingers, grazing my fingers across his engagement ring ,''But it got me to thinking what it's gonna be like when Grace starts asking questions about her mom.''
Not having someone to celebrate on Mother's Day hurts, and I know that all too well. She's only three, though. I don't think she'll say anything yet.
It's times like this when I wish mom was still here. She always knows what to do.
''We'll talk to Kurt and Blaine when the time comes. And if they think telling her the truth would be best, then okay. If not, then we'll figure something out. I promise,'' Ryder squeezes my hand.
He's right. Dad and Kurt will know how to handle this much better than we do.
''Mama,'' Noah toddles over, almost stumbling over his feet.
''Hm,'' I pick him up, sitting him on my lap ,''Your show's over. Do you wanna watch something else?''
He shakes his head, staring at Ryder.
''Do you want daddy to get you ready for bed,'' he asks.
Noah nods sleepily, yawning as he does.
''Alright, buddy,'' Ryder takes him into his arms ,''Come with daddy. Say goodnight to mommy.''
''Night, mommy,'' Noah rubs his eyes, kissing my cheek as well as a one year old can.
''Good night, honey,'' I smile as Ryder stands up with him.
Ryder and I may not always see eye-to-eye, but there is no denying that he is a great dad.
''I'll get him to sleep. Then we can talk,'' he says pointedly.
I didn't expect him to forget the issue at hand. Why would he? How would he?
We've been together for a long time. This conversation is pretty much inevitable.
Hell, he's already proposed. I knew we'd have to sit down and talk about this one day.
I've made up my mind. And Ryder has made his up, too. I'll just have to see where this goes.
All day, I have been trying to tell myself that I'm not making making a mistake.
Hopefully I'll still be able to stand by that.

The physical therapy is helping. Michelle and Kurt have both been really supportive of and patient with me.
And, right now, I need all of the help I can get.
''You okay,'' Sebastian asks, turning the television off.
He'd come over to keep me company, while Dave is visiting a friend, and Kurt has taken Jade and Liam shopping.
''I'm fine,'' I nod ,''Why?''
''You seem preoccupied. Anything I can do,'' he asks.
Sebastian and Kurt may not exactly get along, and I may be wary about leaving him and Santana alone in a room where they could easily rip each other apart. But somehow all three of them have managed to put whatever differences they have aside to help out.
''I'm fine. Honestly,'' I smile as the sound of two tiny pairs of feet nears us.
I look to my left, noticing that Jacob and Grace are staring at me with wide eyes.
''Hello. And how can I help you two,'' I grin at them.
''Can you read to us, papa,'' Grace asks as Jacob holds out the book.
Liam can read somewhat, but Kurt and I still love reading to the two of them.
Because moments like this go by far too quickly.
''I'd love to. But I'm kind of busy with company right now-''
''Don't worry about it,'' Sebastian shakes his head ,''I raised two kids around the same age, remember? I can wait.''
''Thank you,'' I tell him, pulling my two youngest kids onto my lap and opening the book.
The story is one I have read what seems to be a thousand times, but they love it.
Jacob is asleep before I even finish, and Sebastian takes him to his room for me.
I'm not surprised, though. Jacob and I have been spending time together all day, even when he was supposed to be taking a nap like his sister.
He's active, and I love that. He's been more than helpful. He even helped Kurt make lunch, which was a peanut butter and jelly sandwich that Jacob had made himself and proudly presented to me.
It hurt, almost physically, when he'd come in crying earlier last week. His class is having a mother-child event, and it obviously upset him.
But Kurt and I talked to Blair, and she'll gladly take him since Dani, Santana, and Rachel will all be out of town.
''Papa,'' Grace stares up at me ,''Are you okay?''
For a three year old, she pays more attention than I'd normally give her credit for.
''I'm fine. Why?''
''Do your legs hurt,'' she stares up at me with wide eyes, and I'm reminded of how Blair was at this age.
So curious and loving, something that's obviously been passed on.
''Sometimes, but that's because I'm regaining feeling and sometimes feel pain,'' I explain the best that I can, and that I can ,''Papa is going to a place that's helping him, though. I wanna walk again.''
''Okay,'' she nods, lying her head on my shoulder.
''Why all the questions,'' I press a kiss to her curls.
''Don't want you hurt. I love you,'' she smiles, and I honestly think I my heart swells.
''I don't want you hurt, either. Daddy and I love you so much,'' I remind her ,''Don't ever forget that.''
I don't always know what I'm doing when it comes to raising these kids. I've made a lot of mistakes, and I will probably make a lot more.
But it's moments like this that make me glad I am a dad.
''I love you, Grace Elizabeth,'' I hug her, ''And, just so you know, you're not allowed to grow up. Neither is Jacob. You have to stay this little.''
I know that's not possible. And I wouldn't want her to. Grace is an adventurer already, and Kurt and I are constantly keeping an eye on her as she grows more and more curious.
She's going to grow up eventually, as they all are.
And I have to let them.
Everytime I'm about to lose faith in myself, one of these kids smiles at me, and I wonder why I ever doubted something.
As cheesy as it may sound, I consider these kids miracles. Kurt and I wanted a family, and we got six of the best kids. I honestly never knew I could be this happy.
Grace is slowly falling asleep, and I just cradle closer to me.
They're only this small once. I might as well enjoy it while it lasts.
''It's kind of incredible when they're that young, isn't it,'' Sebastian quietly asks, sitting on the couch ,''They're so young and innocent.''
''Exactly,'' I agree.
If I could protect them forever, I would. But I can't. All I can do is be there for them, and help them when they ask.
''Dave and I are looking into adopting. He wants a family, and I admit I miss this,'' Sebastian sighs ,''It's not easy, but it's worth it.''
I couldn't agree more.
RoryPOV-
''Maybe we should take them to the park next weekend,'' I look at Sugar.
The twins are watching a movie on the television, but they're getting sleepy.
''I agree,'' she leans into me ,''When I picked them up after work, Wendy kept looking out the window. And Finn kept pointing outside, saying 'Mommy'. I think she got him to do that.''
I laugh quietly, pressing a kiss to my wife's cheek.
Our apartment is a mess right now, but oh well. We'll worry about it later, after we've gotten some much needed sleep.
I'm taking extra shifts at my work, since I'll be taking summer classes. Sugar has gotten three clients, and is making more money. So, since we'll both be busy over the summer, we're sending the kids to the same day camp that Grace and Jacob will be going to. Liam is going to be a counselor there, and Jade will be a junior counselor.
Being a parent is not easy, and we've had to plan a lot, only to realize that things won't always go as planned.
But I love it. These kids are my world.
I finally know what my dad meant when he said it would all be worth it.
Grandpa and grandma have spoiled them, as they do all of their grandchildren. They have insisted on taking them out when they come visit this summer.
Which will give Sugar and I some much needed alone time.
''Daddy,'' I'm taking out of my thoughts when Wendy pats me on my knee.
''What's up, princess,'' I pick her up, sitting her on my lap as Sugar walks towards where Finn has fallen asleep.
She puckers her lips, her symbol for a kiss on the cheek.
''Come here,'' I laugh, pressing a kiss to her cheeks, ''I love you.''
Wendy wraps her arms around my neck, laying her head on my shoulder.
''I'll take that, too,'' I gently rub her back, listening as she quietly yawns, ''And I think somebody is ready for bed.''
Wendy doesn't fight me on that like she normally would, choosing to tighten her grip around my neck as I walk towards the room.
Finn is already asleep, and Sugar's tucking the blanket around him as I lay Wendy down.
''They're smart kids,'' she runs a finger down Finn's cheek ''And beautiful, too.''
We're biased, but I agree with her.
''Maybe one day, after we've both established careers, we can have another baby,'' I ask her as we sit on the edge of the bed ,''I'd like that.''
''I would, too,'' she admits ,''I think that if we can make this work, since neither of us were ready, then we can make anything work. We'll be celebrating our two year anniversary, and they said we wouldn't make it that far. We've proven them wrong before, and we'll do it again.''
If this is how dad feels about marrying Blaine, then I'm on the right track. We were ready to get married, definitely, and I don't regret anything.
''I really love you,'' Sugar smiles, kissing my cheek.
Some things haven't changed about our relationship since we've gotten married, other than the obvious additional responsibility of raising the kids. Then again we haven't been married long in the grand scale of things.
I'm not worried. We can make this work. This family gets through everything that comes our way, so I know everything will work out in it's own way.
Doesn't it always?

''I'm ready,'' Jade's voice comes from the other side of the door.
Reluctantly, I pull away from kissing Blaine and clear my throat, ''We're ready.''
I'd taken her shopping for her graduation dress, eighth grade dance dress, and a new pair of shoes.
Liam had come with, on a driving lesson. He has his permit, now it's time to work on the license.
Jade practically bursts in, a bright smile on her face, ''What do you think?''
''I love it,'' I grin back, and I think her smile actually widens.
And I do. It's a knee length, short sleeved, blue dress.
''You look beautiful,'' Blaine smiles ,''Now, go try on your dress for the dance.''
With a nod, she practically bounces out of the room.
''You do realize she's not done growing up,'' Blaine sighs ,''We're going to have to do this with Grace, too.''
''I know. For now, let's enjoy the time they want to spend with us.''
There's a knock, and I look to see Liam leaning against the doorframe.
''Can I come in,'' he questions.
''Of course,'' I nod, and he hands me the keys as soon as he's at my side.
''Thanks for taking me driving, Kurt. That was really cool of you,'' he smiles.
It took a few months, but he finally came out of his shell.
And it was well worth the wait.
''No problem. We can try again tomorrow when I'm done at the studio.
''Really,'' he asks excitedly ,''Cool!''
''Now, you'd better go get some sleep. You have to be up early tomorrow. Unless there is something else that I can help you with?''
''No. I'm good. Goodnight, Kurt. Night, Blaine,'' he heads towards his room.
''I'm back,'' Jade return not even two seconds after her brother leaves.
''Jade, you look gorgeous,'' I nod.
The dress is knee length, short sleeve, and red. Totally age-appropriate, but still mature.
''Thank you,'' she looks down at the material, smoothing her finger along it.
''Tell Blaine the other news,'' I remind her.
Jade looks confused, before blushing ,''Oh, that.''
''Yeah,'' I laugh ,''That.''
''Alright,'' she looks at Blaine ,''I got asked to the eighth grade dance.''
His eyes widen slightly, and it takes everything I have not to laugh at him as he regains composure.
''That's great,'' he agrees through a forced smile.
''Sweetheart, go put your dresses up so that they don't get dirty. Then go to sleep.''
''Alright,'' she hesitates before rushing forward and giving us both a hug ,''I love you.'''
''We love you, too,'' Blaine reassures her.
''Always,'' I hug her back.
''Goodnight,'' she practically bounces out of the room then, and Blaine lays his head on my shoulder.
''Her energy is contagious. Sometimes I get tired just looking at her.''
I let out a laugh, pressing a kiss to his head ,''You're such an idiot. I'm going to go get some water. Do you want any?''
''That would be nice,'' Blaine kisses my hand before I stand, ''I love you.''
''I love you, too.''
With all of the uncertainty that I have been dealing with lately, this is one of the few things I'll never doubt.
''I thought you were going to bed, Liam,'' I begin when I walk into the kitchen, making him jump slightly.
''Sorry. I am,'' he puts his now empty glass in the sink, ''Can I tell you something?''
''Of course,'' I take two glasses down, turning the water on.
''I know I was kind of distant when you guys first took us in. But I do appreciate what you guys have done for us. I love you and Blaine, even if I don't always show it,'' Liam states.
''We know it. And we love you, and your brother and sister. This is your home now, okay?''
''I know,'' he smiles slightly ,''I'd better head to bed. Good night, Kurt.''
''Good night, Liam,'' I take the glasses and head to the bedroom.
''Thank you. What's got you in such a good mood,'' Blaine questions, taking a sip of his water as soon as I pass him the cup.
''Nothing,'' I sit next to him, letting him wrap an arm around me and leaning into his embrace ,''I just really love you, and our kids, and I'm glad we decided to adopt again.''
''You know what? So am I,'' he presses a kiss to my lips ,''Now, we need to get some sleep.''
''Right,'' I crawl under the blanket with him, turning off the night ,''Good night.''
''Good night,'' Kurt.
The last thing I see is Blaine's content face, sound asleep as I slowly drift off into my own dreams.
And, for the first time in a long time, everything seems just right.
RyderPOV-
''So… where do we stand on this?''
''I'm not saying I don't want to marry you, Ryder-''
''That's what it sounds like to me.''
That was immature, and it obviously hurt her.
''Sorry,'' I look away, ''That was out of line.''
''Yeah,'' she quietly begins ,''It was. When you're ready to talk this out like adults, let me know.''
''I'm sorry. We can talk. I'll listen,'' I look back at her.
''Thank you. I'm not saying no. I just think we're not ready for this,'' she explains ,''It's going to change everything if we do this now.''
''What's it going to change, Blair? We've been living together for a while, and we've been dating since high school.''
''Marriage is a commitment, Ryder. A commitment to love and honor and respect another person for the rest of your life. And I think that you're not thinking this whole thing through as clearly as we should.''
''No, I love you. And you're the only one for me. That's why I want to marry you, Blair,'' I take her hand.
She can't honestly think I don't love her.
''I know. But think about it, Ryder: you know why dad and Kurt got married? Why Sugar and Rory did? Because both people in those relationships absolutely knew that they were ready. I want to marry you someday, yes. But not rushed. Because if we rush this, and one of us regrets it, it'll end badly.''
''What do you mean,'' I look down at where she laced our fingers together.
''We internalize our feelings until they get to be too much. Then we do something stupid. And I don't want to lose you because one of us did something stupid. We've both cheated on each other, but what if it's more than kissing next time. I wouldn't be able to handle that,'' she looks at the material of her skirt, avoiding my eyes.
But it's still very clear what she means.
''I would never do that to you, Blair,'' I put a hand on her cheek, ''Come on, look at me.''
She lets out a shaky breath before finally bringing her eyes to mine ,''I know. And I would never do that to you. But I still don't think we're ready.''
''You're not giving me a good reason, Blair.''
She's silent for a while, before finally speaking ,''I got pregnant at sixteen, and then again at eighteen. I wasn't ready either time, Ryder. But I don't regret my decision. I'm doing better, but my body image issues are still there. I haven't had any time to just… work on myself. I love our kids, and I'm glad that I can come to you when I need to talk, especially since I had to stop going to therapy when Noah was born since we were spending those days at the hospital. But this is something I'm not ready for. We have a lot going on, too much going on. It's the reason I'm going to have to tell Quinn I can't be her surrogate. It's also the reason that I'm saying no right now.''
''I see.''
There's a long silence before she sighs.
''Talk to me, Ryder,'' she insists.
''Did I do something to make you think you can't trust me through all of this? That you can't trust me with anything,'' I finally ask.
It has to be me. We've been talking about getting married for years. The minute I actually bring it up to make it real, and she changes her mind?
We've both had to given up a lot, and I can admit that she has given up more than me. But we both know how life can change overnight, so why prolong the inevitable?
''It's not you, it's really not. I need to work on me. I have responsibilities to Noah, yes, but what about my responsibility to myself? What about my dreams? They can finally happen, and I need to put a lot of effort into focusing on them,'' she reminds me.
''Right. So you're just saying no right now,'' I raise an eyebrow ,''Now that we finally have the time, and the money, to make this happen.''
She let's go of my hand, brushing her hair back in frustration.
I'm just trying to understand her.
As much as I loved Jordan, this is different. I can't lose Blair. She's the first girl that didn't use me or make me feel stupid and actually made me feel like I could do anything.
What's wrong with wanting that feeling to last?
Maybe her feelings have changed.
''Do you remember when we first started dating, and started exploring the physical part of our relationship? How patient you were with me, and we just found our own pace? I need you to be that patient with me now. I want to marry you, Ryder. I promise. Right now, I'm just trying to protect us,'' she takes my hand again, ''This relationship is very precious to me. I need you to understand that. Maybe I'll change my mind in a few weeks. But for now? I can't do this.''
I still don't understand completely, because Blair only ever tells me half of what she's thinking. But I'll nod for now, pretend it's okay.
''Thank you for understanding. I do love you.''
''I love you, too.''
Frankly, that's the only part of this conversation that hasn't hurt, worried, or confused me.
''If you need to take some time to think, I'll understand. This isn't case closed on the conversation, mind you. Give me a month, and we can talk this through again. That's just my answer right now,'' she speaks as Noah begins to cry ,''I'm gonna go get him.''
''Alright. I… I'll be there in a minute.''
Blair kisses my cheek, walking towards the room.
I guess she's right. I'd never hurt her though. She knows that.
There's something she's not telling me, and I have to figure out what it is.
And I'm not giving up without a fight.
So what do you think? Klaine spending time with the younger kids? More bonding in the next chapter., things get heated, and Rory working things through? And Ryder and Blair getting married now, yes or no?
