Caroline waited in the dark, unwillingly for Elijah to come find her. After Genevieve had left the tears had come without her permission. She had tried to wipe them away but they had returned. She could still see the wicked smile on the witch's face, something that she felt wouldn't go away for a long time.

She heard a soft knock on the door and Elijah's gentle voice speak from the outside. Caroline straightened her dress and stood up, wiping at her face. "You may come in, Elijah." She spoke in a hush whisper but she was sure that Elijah could hear her.

The door opened slowly and Elijah peaked in. "My lady, has Niklaus spoken to you?" He stepped fully in the room and Caroline could see the unruliness of his clothes. She stepped forward but he stopped her by raising his hand.

"Lady Forbes, I'm fine. I just had an little spat with my uncontrollable younger brother. He's been put in his place now." Caroline assumed he walking about Niklaus, so she tilted her head to the side and waited for him to continue.

"Kol has been a nuisance for the entirety of his life. I thought he needed a little guidance of his manners, especially when it concerns a lady." Caroline felt the smile come to her face, and she laughed loudly. "That he does, Elijah. That he does."

The brunette man gave her a warm smile before looking away awkwardly. Caroline continued to smile, the thought of Kol learning his lesson bringing a genuine happiness to her. The thought diminished instantly when she thought of Genevieve.

"Caroline, is something wrong?" Caroline's eyes met his and she could tell from his expression he was worried. "Elijah, who is Genevieve and what is she doing here?" When Elijah gave her a questioning stare, she quickly turned away. Caroline didn't want him to see the jealousy and rage in her eyes.

"She is a 'special' friend of Niklaus. She is helping us at the moment with a spell, for you. Which reminds me…" Caroline didn't flinch as Elijah bit into his wrist and walked towards her. Caroline knew that he wanted her to drink his blood.

He stood in front of her and she grabbed for his hand and raised it to her mouth. She could still remember the metallic and sweet taste of his blood as it warmed her from the inside. When Caroline felt she had drank enough she pulled away, and wiped the blood across her mouth.

"And now the spell will began to take place." Elijah spoke. Caroline waited for a moment, but when nothing happened she turned back to Elijah. "If I may ask, what spell?" She questioned him. Elijah walked quickly to the table and picked up a sharp knife.

Caroline felt the panic, and her heart beat faster with every step he made back towards her. "Elijah… what are you doing?" She meekly called out. He picked up her hand and turned it over, with the palm facing up. "Watch, Caroline."

He stuck the knife in her hand, and Caroline flinched at the skin tearing open again. She wanted to snatch her hand back but Elijah held her in his firm grip. "Elijah!" He hushed her with a look and held up his own hand.

Caroline was shocked at the small gash on his palm that mirrored her own. She watched as her hand and his healed at the same time. "Our life lives are now connected, Caroline. If you should get hurt in anyway, you will heal, and you will have my abilities but still remain human. Do you understand what I am telling you?"

Caroline blinked numerous times before the startling news finally sank in. "Elijah, why you and I? I mean…" Elijah gave her hand a soft squeeze before letting it drop back to her side. "Niklaus said it would only be right if our life forces were connected. He didn't want your life tied with Rebekah's or even himself. He said he didn't trust our father not to kill them, but he knew he would not harm me."

Caroline nodded, understanding his reasoning. "What now, Elijah?" He leaned up and pressed a small kiss at the temple of her head. "Niklaus is trying to do the right thing by you, please just trust us. All will be revealed soon. For now, you need rest."

Elijah lit a lantern for her and wished her a goodnight then quickly left the room. Caroline felt a little relief at finally being able to see around the room. She noticed that someone had brought her large trunk and had placed at the foot of her bed for her.

She opened it and began digging through her belongings looking for something clean and suitable to wear to sleep that night. She found a thin Chemise and began to undress. She took off her gown and inspected it, making sure no damage had been inflected upon it.

Satisfied that one of her favorite gowns had not been ruined Caroline grabbed the lantern and looked round the room. There were two doors, one that must lead into a wash room and the sitting room. She walked towards the door closest to her and opened it.

'With the day I've had, I certainly need a hot soak.' She felt the water that had already been placed in the tub and felt the warmness. 'It's not hot, but it will do.' She stepped into the bath and let the water cover her body.

The room was quiet as she relaxed into the bath. The day had been a hard one to process, and it seemed she needed a moment to herself. She forgot everything Genevieve had told her. If Klaus didn't truly care about her, he wouldn't have asked the witch to perform the spell.

'He must care about me, at least part of him does…. Or is this just a ploy to have leverage over his father. Does his heart truly belong to Geni..' Caroline's thoughts were interrupted by someone knocking on the door.

"Just one moment, please!" Caroline screamed. She hurried out of the tub and attempted to dry herself somewhat off but the door opening caused her to panic. "Caroline?" Her head rose up at the sound of Klaus' voice.

'Oh my lord, please don't come in here!' "Klaus… just wait a moment please!" She had forgotten to close the door to the bedroom. She pulled the Chemise on but her body was still damped, making it cling to her form.

She attempted to dry her mess of a hair, but it was no use. She let out a deep breath and walked into her room. He was across the room sitting in her rocking chair. "Klaus, what do you nee-" When her eyes met his, she stopped. She watched as his blue eyes darkened and left hers traveling down the length of her body.

Caroline could feel her heart beating faster, this time not from fear. She knew the Chemise had been thin but she now realized that he could practically see her naked body. For a moment she couldn't move but just stood there.

He seemed to take his time looking up and down her body. Caroline watched as he licked his lips, and his Adam's apple moved up and down. He stood up and the rocking chair slowly began to move. She could felt the butterflies in her stomach increasing. This was a foreign feeling to her, a mere look from this one man could have her trembling.

She wanted to say something but nothing would come out. Klaus made an attempt to move towards her, but then stopped himself. She watched him back away and close his eyes. He took a few deep breaths, shook his head, and then opened his eyes.

Caroline finally snapped out of her drunken state and crossed her arms over her chest. "Klaus?" She watched him blink a few times at her and look away. His face turning a dark shade of red. His reply left her unsatisfied "I expected you to be asleep… I wanted to leave this letter here for you. It's from Stefan. He had to leave for a few day, but he will return. Goodnight."

He stood up and walked past her and out the door. 'What just happened and where has Stefan gone?' She glanced at the table and saw the letter Klaus had brought. She shook her head, still feeling Klaus' eyes on her. She had never had someone look at her the way he just had. 'Was it lust in his eyes…'

She picked up the letter and walked back into the bathing room to retrieve the lantern. Somehow she found herself comfortably lying in her bed. The blue silk was beautiful and felt good to touch. Caroline grabbed the letter addressed to her, opened it and began to read.

Dear Caroline,

I know this is very sudden for me to leave, especially when we just returned. I have news though. I couldn't tell you before because of the leverage Mikael had over me, but now I can. My father and brother are going to be returned to me and I will see them again after 50 years. Mikael has used them against me for so long in order to keep watchful eye over your bloodline. I am on a journey to London at this moment to bring them back to the Mikaelson mansion. Please, trust in Klaus and Elijah for they will keep you safe. When I return I will explain everything is full detail, but for now do as they say. For me.

All my love, Stefan.

Caroline was stunned to say the least. She was excepting an easy sleep, but this new information had fully woken her up. 'His father and brother are alive?!'
