Caroline couldn't feel anything but the numbness settling inside of her. Bonnie hadn't been in her room, and she had no one to confine in. She walked slowly down the hall and back to her room. She had no reason to be out, and she feared running into Klaus.

The hope that she once had returning to his horrible nightmare diminished the moment Elijah told her of their plan. Caroline's pain was almost unbearable, especially since Klaus had said trust them. Everything was just wrong.

'What is my reason for even being here anymore? I'm just a pawn in everyone's game.' Caroline lifted her hand to brush away the tear that had fallen. She had never had those kind of thoughts before, but now she was open to anything.

Death would be easier than living in a world full of monsters coming for her. Caroline returned to room and decided to change into the best gown she had. She dressed quickly with the tears streaming down her face. She couldn't do this anymore, she couldn't be strong for herself anymore. She just wanted to let go.

She grabbed her cloak and made her way out of the grand mansion, heading towards the stable. She heard the cries coming from Kasimira, begging her to pet her but Caroline ignored her and walked on. The rope was there it almost seemed as if it was just waiting for her at that right moment.

She picked at the rope, contemplating about what she was about to do. Caroline knew that is was the only way. She would never run away, not without being caught. The rope felt rough in her hands, as she twisted it tightly.

Before she knew it she had walked out of the stable and into the woods. She then found a rather large beautiful looking tree. She felt the bark and the jagged edges cut into her skin, making her bleed but she didn't care.

Somewhere in the back of her mind she knew what she was about to do was terrible. Her mother and father would be ashamed of her. She didn't even what to know how Stefan or Bonnie would react. They would be furious and angry at her, but with time they would move on.

She tied the rope, double knotting it making enough room to place her head through. 'This is it.' Caroline took a deep breath and tried to climb the tree. Caroline screamed when a masculine hand wrapped around her wrist. Caroline was spun around and a set of furious blue eyes were set on her.

"What are you doing, Caroline!?" Klaus yelled at her. She ripped her hand away from him and threw down the rope. "I can't do this anymore, Klaus! I'm done!" Caroline threw up her hands and placed them against her head. "All everyone has ever done to me is lie! I can't live like this anymore Klaus… I shouldn't have to!"

Caroline sobbed into her dress, not caring if she ruined the material. The silence between them grew until she heard him speak very softly "Caroline… I'm sorry." Caroline's eyes darted up to meet his and she couldn't control her anger. "You knew! You knew what Elijah was going to tell me! You coward. Couldn't face me, could you?"

Klaus' face quickly turned into confusion as he stared at her. "Caroline, what are you speaking of?" She looked at him, the realization hitting her. "You- you didn't know… did you?" she quietly spoke. Klaus shook his head and walked towards her. "No, my brother said he was going to speak to you about another plan… but never spoke of what it was. He said Genevieve came to him last night and they spoke about the werewolves being involved but that was it."

Caroline suddenly felt like a fool. She felt the shock when Klaus wrapped his hand around her arm and pulled her closer. "Tell me." Caroline bit her lip and stared off into space. She couldn't help the bitterness in her words as she told him. "Elijah said the werewolves would need me to bare them a child. That, somehow it would break the curse."

She felt the stinging of Klaus' hand gripping her arm tightly. "Klaus…" she winced out in pain. He let her go, almost as if he had been burned. "Caroline… I'm so sorry. I didn't-" She looked at him and gently rubbed her arm. "You didn't hurt me. You could have, but you didn't."

When he only nodded and stepped around her and began to walk she frowned at his disappearing form but then decided to follow him. He stopped after a few moments and Caroline hesitated before asking. "How did you find me?" He scoffed, but didn't turn back around. "I followed your scent, you were bleeding. I am a werewolf remember?… I have just one more question. What were you doing out here? Don't lie to me."

Caroline stiffened, not wanting to tell him the truth. She decided that she couldn't lie to him though. "You know exactly why I was out here, Klaus. I was out to finish it… I didn't want to be here anymore. I don't think I've been happy for so long, why should it matter? I didn't want to go through this for the rest of my life. No one cares about-"

Klaus was in her face in matter of seconds. "Don't you ever say any of that again, Caroline Forbes! Do you think your life means so little? You have people that care about you. Stefan, Bonnie… me. I care." Caroline sucked in a deep breath at his confession.

When his hand grazed across her cheek, Caroline felt the meaning behind his words. She didn't know how close he had gotten until she felt his breath dance across the bridge of her nose. She closed her eyes as she felt his lips, tenderly press against her forehead.

"I don't want you to ever feel that way again. I swore to you, that I would always protect you and I will… even if it means protecting you from yourself." Klaus whispered. Caroline could feel the butterflies deep in her stomach, and she thought her heart would erupt from pounding so hard.

She could feel him step back from her as she opened her eyes. "Come on, love. We have to get back. My brother has some explaining to do. To the both of us." Caroline watched as he extended his hand waiting for her to take it. She placed her hand in his larger one and he began to lead them out of the forest. They didn't speak the rest of the way back into the mansion.

Caroline didn't know what had possessed Klaus to come after her, but she knew for the rest of her days she would always be thankful that he had.
