Bad Blood.
It was a scent she could recognize anywhere. Kagome opened her eyes, seeing nothing but darkness around her. She could hear the quiet breathing of her friends and Koga. Moving as gently as she could, she slipped from the embrace of the wolf and dashed out of the hut. She waited for any hint that someone would follow her before disappearing into the night with her bow. She knew it wasn't extremely smart of her to pursue Inuyasha alone, but she couldn't risk anyone getting hurt again because of him.
Kagome dashed through the trees, letting her nose lead the way. She knew she was gaining on him, wherever he was. It was late into the night, perhaps he would take her to whichever place he called home. Kagome scoffed to herself. Who was she kidding? He had never been the type to call anywhere home. As much as she had thought that they were friends or that he could one day love her back, she realized it had all been pointless. He had never been their friend. He had used them all from the start. Like a fool, she had played into his every move. She was not going to make the same mistake. If she couldn't save what was left of his humanity, she would be sure to end him. For good.
Kagome slowed her pace once she saw the forest begin to end. She stood on a branch and overlooked the setting. The full moon lit the open field beautifully and enough for her to see a figure in red. Kagome felt her heart rate quicken as she studied him. He had stopped, his back to her, and seemed to be gazing up at the starry night. His long, silver hair was wilder than ever. His claws hung to his side loosely. Kagome couldn't help wondering what it was he was contemplating. She could feel the darkness swirling through the Shikon Jewel, which was lodged deeply into his chest. Despite the evil, there was a small shred of purity clinging on.
"I know you're there," Inuyasha called out suddenly.
Kagome gasped to herself and crouched down behind the tree.
"You didn't follow me all this way just to hide, did you?"
Kagome held her breath, then stood from her position. As she prepared to jump down she saw another figure coming into view. Sesshomaru. His gracefulness was unnerved by Inuyasha's tone. Kagome could smell Rin and Jakken, a sweet scent attached to a sour one. They stood a few feet back and watched as the two brothers reunited.
"Still got your human companion," Inuyasha smirked.
"Yes," Sesshomaru answered coldly, "Where is yours?"
"Feh, don't got one," Inuyasha growled hatefully.
"The demon slayer and monk sought me out because of your disgraceful behavior."
"And? I warned them-"
"Does your incompetence know no bounds, Inuyasha? You may be a full fleged demon now, but you are nothing more than a fool. You have been causing childish mayhem in my territory and you would find it in your best interest to stop."
"Yeah? Well, big brother, maybe your territory will no longer be yours."
"You wish to fight me on my inherited rights? You are no match for me."
"I'm ready to kill you, Sesshomaru, if that's what it takes."
"Are you challenging me at this moment? Don't think lightly of me."
"I am, considering I do have the advantage," Inuyasha smiled.
Kagome suddenly saw a hoard of demons raging forward. Horrified, Kagome could hear the screams of Rin, who had been snatched by a large bull demon. Its eyes were white blanks with no pupils and had arms that could squeeze the life out of a child. Jakken and A-Un were both incapacitated by two more bull demons. Sesshomaru's eyes sharpened into angry slits as they turned back onto Inuyasha, who was now cackling maliciously.
"Surprised, eh?" Inuyasha teased.
"Leave them be," Sesshomaru said icily.
"I will, if you agree to hand over that territory of yours."
"What purpose does it serve you? You have no knkowlege of running territories."
"To prove to you bastards that I shouldn't be underestimated."
Kagome decided she had heard enough. She wasn't going to let Inuyasha kill Rin to prove a point. The stench of the demons surrounding her was making her own inner youkai want to come out and play. Kagome bared her teeth, her top two fangs almost eager for the taste of a fight. Ignoring the sensation that flooded through her, Kagome lept from the trees and dropped to the ground. She could hear the dog demons still talking, which she hoped would give her the distraction she needed to take out the demons holding Rin and Jakken. Despite the imps ever constant hateful attitude, Kagome knew he would lead Rin to safety. If a demon battle was going to break out, she needed to be far away.
Kagome was not afraid as she got into a better position to attack. She had been training endlessly and was confident that she had perfected the harmony between her miko and youkai powers. She would have to be fast as she took out the demons. Inuyasha would surely take no time to spot her once she made her move. She was glad it was dark, she didn't count on the bull demons being able to spot her.
Breathing in and out, Kagome placed an arrow onto her bow and steadied herself to aim at her first target. She was a safe distance from the hostages, but close enough for her youkai to release itself and attack when the time came. Upon hearing a vicious snarl from Sesshomaru, Kagome set her arrow free. She didn't wait for it to reach its target as she quickly grabbed another arrow and sent it to her second victim. The arrows both hit their marks forcefully in the head before the third bull had time to properly react. By the time it had looked in Kagome's direction, an arrow sank into the back of its throat.
Racing forward, Kagome could see the fear in Rin's face and hysteria on Jakkens. Kagome made her appearance and pulled the child into her arms, glancing over at Inuyasha to see obvious rage. Sesshomaru would have to keep him occupied.
"Kagome?!" Rin exclaimed.
"Yes, don't worry, I'm going to get you out of here. Follow me, Jakken."
"I don't take orders-"
"NOW!" Kagome growled, her eyes flashing a dangerous color.
Gulping, Jakken nodded and jumped onto A-Un. Kagome could hear the other demons crashing through the trees to get to them. 'I'm faster,' Kagome thought with a mischievious smile. She could feel her inner demon purring in approval. And then, she was off. Using her full speed was almost orgasmic, or so Kagome imagined, as she tore forward. A-Un flew above the trees and Jakken attempted to erradicate the following demons with his staff.
"You're different," Rin observed as she clung onto Kagome.
"I know, don't be afraid. I'm not going to hurt you," Kagome replied.
"Thank you for saving us. Will you go back to help Lord Sesshomaru?"
"Yes, as soon as we're far enough from those demons, Jakken will take you from there."
"You're already losing them, I can barely see them now."
"Good, just a little further then."
"I'm scared, Kagome. Inuyasha is bad."
"I know, but I'm going to stop him. I promise."
Kagome continued through the forest and jumped into a tree, then another, then another, until she was at the very top of the last tree she lept into. A-Un arrived a few minutes behind her and Kagome gently lifted Rin up onto his back.
"Keep going in this direction, stay above the clouds until you're sure its safe."
"Thank you so much, Kagome!" Rin cried out.
"You're welcome, get going."
Kagome jumped down and sped back in the diretion she had come from. Her youkai was ready to attack. She could hear the distant sound of demons as they tried to catch up to her. She couldn't help but smiling, feeling the rush of excitement surging through her. It felt natural to her to want to rip demons apart with her claws. It was her first real test of her strength since becoming a half demon.
An echo errupted into the air, vibrating through the sky and shaking the ground. It was the sound of a roaring dog demon. The demons she now had her eyes on were running back towards the sound. Growling, Kagome lept forward and clawed herself into the neck of a pig demon. Its squeeling startled the other demons but was short-lived as Kagome ripped its head clean off its body, sending blood everywhere.
A few demons stopped to try to stop her, but it was futile. Kagome ripped through their bodies like a knife through butter. Kagome's claws dropped with blood and the stench of demon. Her youkai had taken over and was on a rampage. She was far too fast and calculating for thsoe pathetic demons to defend themselves. She was an entity of complete power and force.
Once she finally made it back to the dog demons, she realized that they were no longer in their human forms. Kagome froze, seeing two large dogs, one slightly bigger than the other. That was Sesshomaru. The remaining demons were bigger than the ones she had just taken out, and were attacking Sesshomaru while Inuyasha lunged at him simultaneously. She couldn't count the demons, there were maybe 50 of them, but she had to help. As she yanked an arrow out, she heard her name.
Kagome didn't pay attention to the voice or who it belonged to. She let the arrow fly, watching the pink aura surround it and plunge into Inuyasha's chest. A savage cry escaped the giant dog and caused him to fall back, giving Sesshomaru an opportunity to free himself from the demons clawing at him. Kagome let another arrow fly and pierce into the hoard of demons. The remaining living ones turned from Sesshomaru and a group of them began to fly towards her.
"Kagome! Are you hurt?!"
"I'm fine."
Kagome wanted to fight, not talk. She could still smell the intoxication of the blood on her and was ready for more. She vaguely registered that it was Koga at her side and Miroku coming shortly from behind. Not taking the time to further acknowledge them, she pushed off her heels and jumped straight at a large snake-like demon. Its mouth was open, exposing venomous fangs. Kagome ripped into its mouth, pulling the top of its head backwards after leaping onto it. She could hear its jaw coming apart as black blood splattered onto her hands and face. 'Next,' she thought hungrily.
Demons crashed all around them as they tried to kill the trio, but Kagome was the strongest and was killing each one that came her way. She could still hear Inuyasha and Sesshomaru crashing into each other and their snarling sounding like thunder. In that moment all Kagome wanted to do was finish with the demons and go after Inuyasha. No longer was she thinking about saving his soul, all she wanted was to destroy him and rip the jewel out from his limp body.
At last, she pushed through the remaining demons and ran towards Inuyasha. He and Sesshomaru appeared to be in a fight to the death. She could see acid dripping from the older brother's mouth as he snapped his jaw. Kagome took out one last arrow and aimed it. She could see the black jewel glowing deep in Inuyasha. Without another thought, Kagome let the arrow fly into the sky. Unfortunately, the arrow hit his shoulder blade, thanks to Koga, who had just collided into her body.
"What are you doing?!" She demanded, angrily.
"This is not your fight, Kagome! Look at yourself," Koga answered desperately.
"I thought you wanted him dead! What difference does it make how it happens?!"
"Not like this, Kagome, not if it harms you!"
Kagome growled uglily and pushed him off of her. A crashing sound behind her caught her attention and drew her aggression away from Koga. Inuyasha was running with Sesshomaru quick on his tail. This was the chance they needed. Kagome was about to head after them, but was grabbed tightly by Koga once more.
"Let go of me!" She screamed.
"No, let the dogs fight. You need to come with me!"
Kaogme slammed her fist into his jaw, briefly catching him by surprise. Her incisors poked from her mouth at him. Another hand gripped her, this time it was Miroku.
"Please, Kagome," he pleaded, "You aren't yourself."
"Yes, I am! Let me go, monk."
"Monk? Have you forgotten we're friends?" Miroku asked incredulously.
Kagome looked at Miroku for the first time it felt like. She could see the hurt in his eyes as he gazed at her. And then she looked at herself, registering all the blood she was soaked in. Her eyes widened as she obsered the area full of dead demons. She knew what she had done, but she had enjoyed it. It had satisfied her to kill and soak her claws into the demons as they tore away their insides.
"I-I'm sorry, Miroku."
"Lady Kagome... Are you injured?" he asked, trying to assess if any of the blood was hers or not.
"None of it is hers," Koga answered stifly.
"Good, we need to get her cleaned up."
Kagome could feel the blood drenched on her skin. She bit her lip down. How could she have acted so beastly? She felt as if she was going to crumble into pieces the more she thought about it. Koga wrapped his arms around her body and squeezed her tightly. Kagome was relieved that he had noticed her absence. She felt him brush her bangs away from her face and plant a kiss on her forehead.
"Don't ever do anything this stupid again. If I lost you..."
"I'm sorry, Koga."
"Promise me you won't," he said.
"I promise. I love you," she sighed into him.
They had already discssed their love affair with Miroku and Sango, but it was still something he found himself in awe of. They truly did love each other. He could tell by the way Koga gently touched her and the warmth Kagome seemed to radiate as she looked at him. Miroku too sighed, wiping sweat from his skin. It had been a short battle for him with the demons, but he was weary. No longer could he hear Inuyasha or Sesshomaru and he hoped that would allow them the time to get Kagome to her normal self and think of their next plans. It was clear they would need a lot more help to take Inuyasha down.
It might just be me, BUT I really like blood thirsty Kagome. I think it helps to show that even if she is a half demon, the youkai within her is still very much a wild animal and not yet tamed yet. I'm trying to shed a bit of light onto every bit of Kagome as I can so we can see her as more than the miko in training that she's used to being. Hope you all enjoyed, I have the next chapter ready. c:
