A/N: It's been over a month… I'm sorry for that… I'm already writing the 8th chapter, so I can assure you you're stuck with this story for at least 4 more chapters, but I can tell you, I'm planning to write more than 10 chapters because I just love this story. I hope this chapter won't disappoint you!
Chapter 4: The Solo
(Rachel POV)
"Good morning Kurt, how are you?"
I just arrived at school and I immediately saw Kurt standing behind his locker.
"Morning. I've felt better, but I'm okay."
He smiled at me like he wasn't. That's not fair.
"Kurt. Be honest."
Kurt sighed.
"Okay, I'm not. I was feeling horrible yesterday, so I just went to some random bar and boozed."
I looked at him with my eyes wide open.
"Kurt! How could you do that? You're just 16… or whatever…"
"I know, I know, but yeah… I didn't know what to do…"
"What about calling me? Kurt, I'm serious. Promise me you'll never do it again. At least not until you're graduated."
Kurt sighed again.
"You're right I guess. I promise."
"Hey guys, how are you? Ready for your solo today, Rach?"
Tina said, who suddenly appeared. Oh yeah, my solo. MY SOLO, OMG, I FORGOT, HOW COULD I?
"I'm 100% ready. I'm gonna blow em all away."
Yeah right, Rachel, you practiced long enough to get a standing ovation. NOT.
"Um Rachel, what did you do yesterday?"
Kurt suddenly asked. Okay…
"Nothing special. Went to my aunt's birthday."
"Nothing special? Your lover was in the bar too and he told me something else…"
"My lover?"
He didn't mean Finn, did he?"
"Yeah, your lover."
Kurt pointed at Finn, who was standing against the wall a few feet away from them. He was talking to a blonde girl, probably Quinn. He smirked when he saw I was looking at him. Shit.
"You mean Finn? What was he doing there?"
I looked back at Kurt.
"He said he needed to rest. He told me he ran away after he kissed you."
It was clear Finn did go to that bar. It was also clear Kurt knew more than I wanted him to know. I looked down.
"Yes that's true."
"What's wrong? You're supposed to be happy!"
Tina said.
"My dads were watching."
I looked back up. Tina and Kurt nodded. They understood.
"Well, err, I have to go to my locker. See you, guys!"
I said and walked to my locker. When I opened it, I heard a familiar voice coming from behind my locker door.
"Hey Rachel."
I said nothing, grabbed the books I needed, closed my locker and walked away.
"Woah woah woah woah, why are you mad at me?"
I sighed and turned around.
"Because, Finn, I can't talk to you anymore."
"Oh. Well, you can give me your numb-"
I interrupted him.
"No I can't. My parents are checking my phone twice a day."
"But-"
Finn started, but got cut off by Quinn, who suddenly was standing behind him.
"Hey Finn, hey Wannabe Queen B."
She didn't look at me and grabbed Finn's arm.
"We should head to class. The bell has rung."
I raised my eyebrows.
"Since when are you so close?"
Quinn laughed.
"You don't know? Finn's moved in with me. Permanently."
My whole world seemed to tumble down. This couldn't be true.
"I didn't say per-"
Finn started, but Quinn raised her hand.
"Bye miss Lollypop, have a great, great day."
Quinn said with an evil smirk. What a bitch. Quinn and Finn walked away. Quinn wanted Finn. And what Quinn wants, Quinn gets, even while she's not popular anymore (even though she's never going to admit it). And now Finn's moved in with her, she will succeed, for sure. Sooner or later Finn will be her boyfriend, and I will be broken.
/
(POV Finn)
"Quinn?"
I looked at the girl walking next to me.
"Yeah what?"
"Rude much?"
Quinn sighed.
"No. She deserves it. She deserves to be on the bottom of the social ladder again. She deserves to be slushed again."
Now it was my turn to sigh.
"Quinn, just admit it. You're jealous of her."
"No, I'm not."
"Quinn."
I looked her in the eye. I knew she was lying.
"It's just not fair, everyone in glee club is popular except me…"
"You are in glee club?"
"Yes, and so are Rachel and her fellow Teletubbies. I've lost everything because of them. I'm not cheerleader anymore, I lost most of my friends, my-"
I interrupted her.
"Popularity."
Quinn looked at her feet.
"I get it, Quinn. You're mad. But because you're mad about all what had happened doesn't mean you can be rude to Rachel."
Quinn looked back up.
"Yes I can. I am Quinn Fabray. You think you know everything about me, but you don't. You don't know anything. You don't know what happened last year, nor what happened this year, before you came, so you basically have no right to judge."
We arrived at the classroom we needed to be.
"Okay, but as soon as I find out, I will."
"Yeah okay. You're not gonna find out anyway."
"You think so?"
The teacher came to the door and before Quinn could answer he asked us to come in.
"Sure."
I said and we did what he asked.
"You can sit next to Quinn."
I nodded and sat down. He continued to speak and pointed to me.
"Okay guys, this is Finn Hudson and he's gonna be in this class until the end of the year. Welcome Finn."
He continued talking about what I could expect of my time here, but instead of listening to him, I turned back to Quinn.
"What are you looking at? I haven't always sat alone. There was this girl who sat at your place until last month. She got expelled."
Quinn looked at me, determined.
"I didn't ask anything, but okay, I was wondering, so thanks. What did the girl do?"
Quinn laughed.
"You don't wanna know that."
I raised my eyebrows.
"Yes I do."
"But you're not gonna believe me."
"Don't play me, just tell."
I looked at Quinn with a serious look on my face.
"Fine. She threw cigarettes at her psychics teacher because he didn't allow her to smoke one."
I snorted.
"No, that's not true. You just made it up."
Quinn looked at me like she was offended.
"No! I can't make up such crap stories! If I would make up something, I would make up a better story! Trust me, it's true!"
I wasn't really convinced, but I let it rest. I didn't feel like discussing about it the whole lesson.
"Finn, what do you think?"
The teacher suddenly asked me.
"Err… what was the question?"
The teacher sighed.
"Finn, I get it. You're new here, so you wanna make new friends, but don't do that in my class. You have breaks for that. I'd rather see you paying attention. Got it?"
"Yes, Mr.…"
"Mr. Woods. Okay everybody, open your exercise book and make exercise 50 until 60. In silence."
With the last two words he looked at me. Fine, another teacher hating me… Am I going to survive McKinley?
/
(POV Rachel)
The lessons I just had were as boring as Figgin's speech on Labor Day last year. I was glad I had a break. I looked for Tina or Kurt, but the only one I saw was Finn, because he was coming my way. With Quinn. Geez, she really can't leave him alone, can she?
"Hey hobbit, guess what? Finn's gonna come to glee club this 'noon, right Finn?"
Quinn said and looked at Finn.
"Yeah… I found out you and Quinn are in glee club, so I became curious. Are you okay with that?"
No way. This was not fair. Quinn knew I get the nerves when I have to sing to someone I hadn't sung to before, and she knew I had my solo today. It was Quinn's idea , I'm really sure. But, I'm not gonna show her I'm nervous, I'm not gonna be mad at her now Finn's standing next to her, I'm not gonna tell Finn he can't come. The show must go on.
"Yeah, sure. See you guys at four."
I turned around and walked away. I was so done with Quinn.
(POV Finn)
"Hey Finn, need to talk!"
Puck said, who came to me after Rachel walked away.
"Under four eyes."
Puck scowled at Quinn, who rolled her eyes at him and walked away.
"Where have you been?"
I frowned.
"What do you mean?"
Puck sighed.
"You know what I mean. You haven't been at my place since you suddenly disappeared yesterday night."
Oh. He wanted to talk about that. I didn't.
"Oh that."
"Yes that yeah. So. Where were you? Or rather, why did you go away?"
I sighed. Did I really have to explain it to him?
"Because… I was scared of what your mom would think of the party…"
"Oh c'mon Finn, you're not gonna tell me-"
I interrupted him.
"I wasn't done talking."
"Oh."
"Also… I kissed Rachel… and her dads were watching… So I ran away…"
Puck widened his eyes. He suddenly grabbed my shoulders and shook me.
"You kissed Rachel? OMG Finn, how could you do that?! There are a million reasons not to kiss Rachel, and you couldn't even think up one? You think you know her, but actually you don't know the first thing about her."
I looked at my feet. Now I realized how stupid I had been.
"You know what?"
Puck put his hands back down.
"I don't wanna hear where you went. I don't care where you live now. You don't know what you've done to Rachel… Be ashamed!"
Puck walked away and I frowned.
"Are you jealous?!"
I called after him. Puck turned around, stormed at me and pushed me against the lockers.
"This isn't about me. If you care about Rachel, leave her alone."
He hissed in my ear. Well then. That's clear.
/
(POV Rachel)
It was time. Time for my solo. I was shivering while I walked into the choir room with Kurt and Tina. There was nobody yet, except Quinn and Finn. Amazing…
"Hey Rach, ready for your solo?"
Quinn asked with an annoying tone.
"Totally."
I said. I sat down and crossed my legs and arms. Kurt and Tina sat down next to me. Then miss Sylvester came into the room.
"Where are my other gays and hoes?"
"Santana and Brittany needed to have a word with coach Schuester because they were talking too much. The others are just late, I guess."
Tina said and shrugged. Miss Sylvester groaned.
"Text them they have to be here between now and two minutes or they're out of glee club."
/
Two minutes later everyone was seated, except Brittany and Santana, who just came through the doorway.
"Sorry miss Sylvester, coach Schue-"
Miss Sylvester interrupted Santana.
"Come in, I'm gonna have a word with him for you."
Puck wasn't in the room either. I didn't know what was up with him, but he was acting strange today. I had a few classes with him, and usually he was mouthy, but not today. Just when I wondered if he still would come, he stormed into the room.
"Am I on time?"
"Are you in glee too?"
I heard Finn ask. Miss Sylvester pointed at Finn.
"Whoever you are, shut your mouth."
She turned back to Puck.
"Why are you late, Puckerman?"
"Cuz I had to punish a freshman football player because he wasn't doing his best."
"That's fine. Sit down. Next time don't be late."
Puck sat down.
"Okay guys, since everyone's finally got their asses here, we can start. Rachel?"
I nodded, stood up and walked to the middle of the room. Kurt and Tina followed me.
"Hi everybody. This song defines how I feel about myself, how I love every part of me, and how people can't take those parts away from me."
I looked Quinn in the eye. She scowled at me. She thought I meant her by 'people,' and yes, that was true, although I wasn't going to admit it. I turned to the band.
"Hit it!"
I saw most faces light up when the music started to play. Everybody loved Katy Perry.
"Days like this, I want to drive away. Pack my bags, and watch your shadow fade. You chewed me up, and spit me out, like I was poison in your mouth…"
I started to sing. I tried hard to avoid Finn's eyes, but that wasn't the easiest job.
"You took my light, you drained me down. But that was then, and this is now. Now look at me! This is the part of me that you're never gonna ever take away from me, no…"
I danced around with Kurt and Tina. I saw Quinn still scowling at me, but I didn't mind. I even thought it was funny. I walked towards her and pointed so close to her I almost touched my nose while I sang
"This is the part of me. That you're never gonna ever take away from me, no. Throw your sticks and stones, throw your bombs and bones, but you're not gonna break my soul. This is the part of me that you're never gonna ever take away from me, no!"
Quinn's eyes widened and her jaw dropped. I happily sang further.
"I just wanna throw my phone away. Find out who is really there for me…"
Suddenly I met Finn's eyes. I suddenly got the nerves. Oh help. Keep singing Rachel, you don't want to screw this up. I took a deep breath and sang further.
"You ripped me off, your love was cheap. It was always tearing at the seams, I fell deep, you let me down, but that was then and this is now. Now look at me! This is the part of me that you're never gonna ever take away from me, no…"
And I pointed again to Quinn while I sang
"This is the part of me that you're never gonna ever take away from me, no. Throw your sticks and stones, throw your bombs and bones, but you're not gonna break my soul. This is the part of me that you're never gonna ever take away from me, no!"
But this time not just her eyes widened and her jaw dropped, no. She stood up, pushed me, walked to someone of the band, whispered something in his ear and a new song started to play. I couldn't even finish mine. Now it was my turn to drop my jaw.
"Quinn!"
Miss Sylvester called, but Quinn already started to sing.
"You say that I'm messing with your head. All 'cause I was making out with your friends. Love hurts whether it's right or wrong. I can't stop 'cause I'm having too much fun. You're on your knees, begging please, stay with me. But honestly I just need to be a little crazy…"
Quinn grabbed my arm and brought me to a chair, and she did the same with Kurt and Tina. I was so mad at her. Quinn sang further like nothing just happened.
"All my life I've been good but now, woah, I'm thinking, what the hell? All I want is to mess around. And I don't really care about, if you love me, if you hate me, you can`t save me, baby, baby-"
"Quinn Lucy Fabray! Stop it!"
Miss Sylvester said. Then she turned to the band.
"You too."
Then she turned back to Quinn again.
"You crazy! First you interrupt Rachel's solo, then you push her, and then you start singing like you're in a battle with her?! Who do you think you are? Are you insane?"
It was like Quinn knew what was coming. She got tears in her eyes.
"Please don't kick me out! You don't understand! They…"
Quinn pointed at me, Kurt and Tina.
"… are fucking devils! They've taken everything away from me! It's not fair! Can't you see, I'm the good one here, not them?!"
Quinn pointed again.
"Quinn. Listen very carefully."
Quinn sighed.
"There are rules in this room, and you broke TWO of them."
Quinn pouted.
"But-"
Miss Sylvester cut her off.
"No Quinn, no buts. You're out of glee club."
I saw tears coming up in her eyes. She put her hands in front of her eyes as she ran away. Somewhere I felt some kind of pity, but it was her own fault. I heard someone behind me stand up. It was Finn. He ran after Quinn. This meant he cared about her, right?" I sighed. I had to deal with it.
A/N: I hope you guys liked this one and take your time to review ;) The songs were Part Of Me by Katy Perry and What The Hell by Avril Lavigne. I'll update as soon as possible, I promise.
