Gone With the Wind
It is four o' clock in the morning on board The Enterprise and the Alpha shift begins at nine the next – indeed the same morning. In the ships' mini - cinema all that can be heard are gentle snores as the end credits roll and roll …..and roll. Spock turns around, not quite frowning to check if he really is the only person left awake and wondering who he can ask for clarification on certain points that are mildly puzzling him about the movie's ending. On one side of him the Ship's chief medical officer lies sprawled across several seats, fast asleep in what Spock cannot help but think looks like a terribly uncomfortable position. On his other side the Captain gently snores against Spock's arm, drooling slightly onto his shoulder.
Indeed the only other person awake is the ship's Chief Engineer, who appears to be sniffing slightly and dabbing at his eyes with an unsightly tartan handkerchief. Mildly relieved Spock hails him – discreetly so as not to wake the others, and because discreet is generally in his nature – but observing the ensign to be faintly emotionally compromised – no doubt by the events of the movie, Spock imagines, as humans often are – he finds himself asking a different question than that which he had originally intended –
"Mr Scott" he says, quietly an with nothing other than genuine interest – "Might I inquire as to the cause of your emotional distress at this time?"
"Ah laddie –" sighs Scotty, still a little overwhelmed – "Tis a fine film, so it is –"
"Wha -?" Kirk starts, sitting upright fast at the sounds of speech – "Ah – yes, yes – very moving."
"I fail to see quite how you were moved Captain" says Spock – "As I has observed nothing but a state of rapid eye movement in your person these past fifty- six minutes precisely. Indeed your breathing pattern would indicate a very deep sleep suggesting in fact –"
"Yes thank you Spock, that will do" yawns Kirk blustering manfully on in his attempt to appear to be one of the rare few of his crew to have lasted all the way to the end of "Gone with the Wind".
"Good god!" groans McCoy, who does not care how he appears, stirring loudly and waking everyone around them in the process – "Never let me be cajoled into watching that torrent of torment again! Dear god!"
"Why doctor –" says Spock, innocently – "I would have expected your interest to have outlasted the rest. As history is traditionally said to be written by the victorious party this is surely a unique opportunity to look at the side your own ancestors played in this of your earth wars."
"Why you pointy – eared –"
"Gentlemen please –" Kirk steps in fast – "I am sure it is far far too late at night now for such – er – colourful debate.
"That's more like too early in the morning Captain" smiles Sulu as he and Chekov trail sleepily past – "We'll see you on the Bridge in a couple of hours."
Chekov also mumbles a tired goodnight and something about the best film never to have come out of Russia.
"Next time we see Dr Zhivago again" he adds.
"God save me" wails Bones. Sulu puts in a plea for "Hero", Uhura for a Disney fest, Spock that they engage in another Marvel Films marathon and the whole pace is on the brink of erupting into more colourful debate when Scotty quietly announces that he would happily sit through "Gone with the wind" again. At this Kirk finally cracks, yells at them all to stop splitting his head and to go to bed at once –
"And, like it or not we are watching "Lord of the Rings" next week, thank you all very much, the topic is now closed!"
Everyone quietens down and scurries off to bed, Chekov popping a quick meercat like head around the door to inquire –
"Which one?"
"ALL OF THEM!" Kirk roars, and away they go.
"But Captain –" Spock murmurs, finally getting round to his initial inquiry as they head down the corridor – "I still fail to see how the fact of tomorrow being another day should be so climactic a revelation to so evidently – as you would put it – epic a movie – surely this fact is self-evident even to so illogical a character?"
"Go with it Spock" Kirk groans, exhaustedly – "Just go with it."

I would like to add that I personally love "Gone with the wind" and Bones reaction is a fairly accurate representation of my person's when I made them watch it a while back, foolishly making this suggestion at two in the morning and seeing the thing through until six.
Also I have taken receipt of all the suggestions for this fic I have been given and temporarily ignored them all in this chapter. As you see though next chapter I will be taking the prompt from Fangirl-Shenanigans for LOTR. Hopefully sooner than I was in writing this chapter! :-)
I WILL do chapters for all the suggestions where I've seen the film though at some point, I promise!
