"It appears that the fetus endured some sort of trauma early on. The toll of this was great, and the fetus has been slowly hurting and dying. It's body couldn't develop properly and gave out. I'm so sorry."

The words Dr. Bisca spoke still rang in Lucy's ears. She was certain the trauma the baby endured was from her father. That just killed her. The second she got home from the hospital, she forcefully entered her father's office and screamed at him. Her friends were still there, and they were trying to calm her down. She didn't pay them any mind. She just yelled and cried to her father. He didn't even look up from his paperwork. Sting and Rogue ended up dragging her out of the room.

After that day, Lucy never really went anywhere. She skipped school for a whole week, but ended up having to go back. She wasn't very pleased at that. She spent almost a month sulking. She was so upset she didn't even want to eat. Her friends had to practically force her to. And every night they took turns spending the night at her house to make sure she ate and everything. Two weeks after she found out about her baby's death, she had gone to the doctor for the fetus to be removed. She had a mark from where the incision in her stomach was, but she was told it wouldn't scar.

Lucy wasn't upset that her baby died. Well, she was, but she understood. Miscarriages happened. She wasn't even eighteen yet, anyways. It was probably for the best that she didn't have a baby. What killed her, though, was that it was her father's fault, and he never even looked at her when she told him what he did. He didn't even care that he killed his grandchild, or that his only daughter was suffering. He didn't even notice that she was pregnant to begin with!

Gray wasn't much better off. He had to restrain himself almost every day from driving down to Oak Town and just ripping Jude to shreds. Sting had told him what happened, and he was livid. He didn't even know a man could be so cruel.

It was two months after they found out about the baby that Gray finally went and got Lucy again. He hadn't even spoke to her since that day. He really just didn't know what to say. And that Friday night he picked her up, no one said a word. His family was silent a dinner. Even Wendy didn't say anything. She understood what was happening.

Lucy woke up that next morning with a groan. She was honestly surprised to see Gray sleeping soundly next to her. She hadn't really seen him much, so she wasn't used to being with him. She was sort of jealous of how he could sleep so easily. She was tossing and turning all night. She's barely slept at all recently. And whenever she did, she had nightmares. They weren't even about the same things. They were just nightmares like little kids got: pointless and completely terrifying.

"Lucy?" Gray mumbled, opening his one eye. "It's only five. Why are you up?"

"I can't sleep," Lucy admitted. She stared at the large gap between them. Why wasn't he holding her like he always did? She didn't realize things would be so different. She didn't know why thing were so different.

"Why can't you sleep?" Gray asked with a yawn. He was finally able to sleep peacefully, and she was having trouble. He thought that was strange.

"I keep waking up," Lucy said, not wanting to tell him that she has nightmares every time she closes her eyes. She moved a little closer to him and lightly gripped the front of his shirt. He visibly stiffened. She felt her eyes start to water. "I missed you."

Lucy was shocked when he didn't saw anything. He had a deer-in-the-headlights look. It was if he was surprised that she missed him. She hadn't talked to him for two months, let alone see him.

"What's wrong?" Lucy asked. Gray was really starting to worry her. She leaned up closer to him and lightly brushed her lips against his, but he showed no reaction. She quickly got off the bed. She grabbed the pillow she was using and a spare blanket from his closet.

"What are you doing?" Gray asked, sitting up. He watched her walk out of the room. She didn't say anything. He figured she was going to sleep on the couch, so he quickly went after her.

Lucy was already laying on the couch asleep when he got to the living room. He sighed and slumped down to the floor, leaning his back against the couch. It kind of hurt his pride a little that she couldn't sleep with him, but fell asleep instantly on the couch. Of course, it was his fault that she was on the couch. He smiled sadly. He couldn't really explain it, but he felt like if he touched her she would brake. He knew that didn't make sense, but for some reason he still felt that way.

Gray reached out and touched Lucy's face. She snuggled closer to his hand. He took his hand away and lifted up her shirt. His thumb gently rubbed by the mark on her stomach. The doctors said it wouldn't scar, but he wasn't too sure. He really hoped it didn't. That would kill Lucy to see that scar every day. It would be a constant reminder of what happened.

Gray noticed that her stomach was the same size as before. It hadn't gone back down to its flat state before the pregnancy. He's heard enough conversations between women to know that a lot of women get fat after being pregnant, but Lucy wasn't even pregnant that long. Her stomach should have shrunken a little, even if it wouldn't be completely flat. He wasn't the type of guy to care if his girlfriend had a flat stomach, which most shallow men deem perfect, but this situation was a bit different. It really bothered him. Should he ask someone? There could have been something else wrong, and he really didn't want that. Then again, what exactly could be wrong? The fetus was already removed, and the doctors didn't see anything wrong, so what could it be?

"You know, having twins runs in the Fullbuster family. Every generation had a set or two."

Gray scrunched his nose in confusion. Why was he suddenly remembering that? Could it be? Was Lucy pregnant with twins, and only the one died? But that wouldn't make sense. She was pregnant for three months, then she had a miscarriage, and it's been two months since then. That meant the baby would be five months old. The baby would be bigger by now. Even if the odds are slim, he didn't think he should keep his theory to himself.

Gray moved the blanket back over Lucy and went up to Ur's room. He felt like a small child, crawling into bed with his mother after a nightmare. It was scary how close to the situation that thought was. This was a total nightmare. Lucy lost her baby, and might have another.

"Mom," Gray said, shaking Ur's shoulder. She mumbled something and just rolled over. He moved to the other side of the bed and tried again. This time she opened one eye, something he always did when Lucy woke him.

"What is it?" Ur all but hissed. She clearly wasn't a six-o'clock-in-the-morning person.

"Fullbuster's have twins," Gray said, almost in a daze. He watched his mother's face twist in confusion.

"I know that. And you're waking me up at," she paused to look at the clock, "6:13 to tell me this? I was married to a Fullbuster for quite some time. I'm fully aware of their gene pool. Can I go back to sleep?" Even though she asked, she didn't wait for an answer. She rolls back over and buried herself into her pillow further.

Gray let out a frustrate groan. He climbed onto the bed and knelt beside his mother. "Mom, this is about Lucy." It almost hurt at how fast she sat up. He's come into her room for many important reasons, but he's never seen her jump up so fast, completely awake when she did.

"What's wrong with Lucy?" Ur asked, flipping on her bedside lamp. Gray became suddenly aware of the purple bags under her eyes. He didn't even think that anyone else was bothered and couldn't sleep. He never considered it. It wasn't just about him and Lucy. Everyone was so excited. They had to have all been upset.

"Lucy still looks pregnant," Gray said, feeling a little guilty for possibly putting a false hope inside Ur's head. "I don't quite understand how it would happen, but I think she was going to have twins, and only the one died."

"That could be," Ur said, deep in thought. "It's been two months, right?" Gray nodded. She looked up at him with a straight face. "Have you guys had sex since then?"

Gray's face turned beat red. "Mom!" he whined. He couldn't believe she was being so blunt. She couldn't bother to use a code word of some sort? It was so embarrassing getting that question from your own mother. Maybe it would be okay from a father, but it would still be embarrassing.

"Come on, it's not like we didn't know you two were intimate. And her being pregnant just put up a red flag," Ur said, rolling her eyes. "Just answer the question. She could just be pregnant a second time. It's happened before."

Gray puffed out his cheeks in annoyance and looked away. "I haven't even seen her since then. And it wouldn't happen anytime soon anyways," he mumbled the last part under his breath. Ur didn't even hear it.

"It's very possible that she could have been pregnant with twins," Ur said. She pushed the blankets aside and got out of bed.

The thick winter blankets made Gray realize that it was already January. What happened to Christmas? He didn't even spend it with Lucy. Everything's been kind of hazy for him since he found out Lucy was pregnant. His days sort of ran together, holidays getting mixed in there somewhere.

Ur tried to go upstairs to see Lucy, but Gray redirected her to the couch. She was about to ask, but he shook his head. He didn't really want to bother explaining anything that could lead to an awkward talk between them.

Ur knelt beside Lucy in full nurse-mode. She lifted up Lucy's shirt to look at her stomach. It was very obvious that it was the same size, if not a little bigger. She gently felt the base of her stomach, quickly knowing that there was still liquid in her womb, meaning there very well could be a baby.

"Well?" Gray asked, nervously shifting his weight from one foot to the other.

"I'n going to run to the store and get a test. Jus stay with her, alright?" Ur asked. It was obvious in her voice that she was worried and rushing. She sprang up and ran out the door, almost forgetting her purse. Gray actually threw it to her, and after a quick thanks, she was gone.

Gray gently lifted Lucy up and sat beside her on the couch. She yawned and rubbed her eyes, wondering why she woke up. She lazily glanced over at him, a scowl forming on her face. "What do you want? I thought I made it clear that I didn't want to see or talk to you," she snapped.

"Lucy, I'm sorry," Gray apologized. "I don't really have time to explain why I was acting like that, but that's not the issue right now." He felt a small pang in his chest when he said the word 'issue.' The word made it seem like a problem.

"I'm glad that something else is more important," Lucy scoffed, rolling her eyes. She felt Gray's hair tickle against her neck as he pulled her onto his lap. She felt her eyebrow twitch. She was suppose to be mad at him, but he was making it difficult. He was doing exactly opposite of what he was originally in trouble for, after all.

Lucy suddenly felt that feeling from earlier, that deep feeling of just plain missing him. She hadn't seen him for a whole two months, and she was just going to be mad at him? She could do that when she didn't get to see him. It took her only two seconds to spin around and lock lips with him. The kiss was hungry and eager, all her emotions pouring out at once.

When they finally separated, they were both gasping for breath, their foreheads against each other's. "You definitely have the mood swings," Gray panted.

"What do you mean?" Lucy panted back in return.

Right on cue, Ur entered the house again. She didn't even seem to notice that both teens were completely out of breath, consumed in a heated kiss just moments ago. She just grabbed both of their hands and quickly went towards the bathroom, happening to wake everyone in the house on the way.

"What's going on?" Lyon asked, exiting his room. Surprising, that's the first time Lucy's seen him without a shirt. Ultear came out a second later, Wendy following, rubbing her eyes with her hands, which didn't seem to be so tiny anymore.

"Okay, go," Ur said, handing Lucy the box and pushing her into the bathroom. The blonde was almost through the door when she read the box. She stopped and turned around.

"Why are you giving me this?" Lucy asked, holding up the box. Ultear got a huge grin on her face, Lyon actually looked moderately excited, and Wendy was confused as ever.

"Gray brought this to my attention, but Fullbusters usually have twins. It runs in the family," Ur explained. "You might have been pregnant with twins, but only the one was injured. The second could have been underdeveloped."

Lucy felt her mouth go dry. She nodded stiffly and went inside the bathroom. She did her business taking the test and waited for the results. When they finally showed, as let out a scream of joy. Gray opened the door, not a second after being embraced.

"We should take you to the doctor tomorrow," Ur suggested. "We should make sure that the baby is safe."

After the excitement died down, everyone went back to their rooms. Lyon was the first, then Wendy, then Ur, then Ultear. Lucy and Gray pushed into his room, already kissing. They had some much needed quality time together that needed to be spent.
