WARNING! I didn't proofread this. I really just wanted to get the chapter posted. I took my time typing, so there shouldn't be too many mistake. I hope...
For many, it was a special day. For Lucy, it was beyond special. What day was it exactly? Not only was it graduation day, but it was the day that Lucy could go to the doctor to see the gender of the baby. Gray graduated the week before, and now it was her turn. She already had her stuff moved back to her mother's house, and she was ready to go.
"I don't know whether to be happy or sad," Layla said with tears rolling down her cheeks. "Laxus is going away for college in August, and now you're graduating. Not to mention that I'm going to be a grandmother soon."
"It's alright, Mom," Lucy said, trying to comfort her mother the best she could. A lot was happening all at once, but she was trying her best to concentrate on what was happening that second. For example, she was glad that her gown fit her, and it wasn't extremely obvious that she was pregnant. There was always that one girl, and it was her this year, but she didn't want to draw attention to that fact.
The ceremony was long and emotional. Many parents were crying, and the graduates were happy to be done with high school. Lucy was just happy to have the whole thing over with. Her feet were killing her! She got tired a lot faster than before, so she didn't exactly like standing for two hours.
"Well, Sting, you actually managed to graduate," Yukino said, patting his back. "It's about time."
"What's that suppose to mean?!" Sting asked angrily. Rogue rolled his eyes and sighed.
Lucy laughed at her friends. She was going to miss them when she moved. This time moving wouldn't be as hard, though, since she wasn't leaving behind as much.
Gray went up behind Lucy and snaked his arms around her waist, resting his hands on her growing stomach. "Layla's waiting in the car. We have to get going if we're going to make your appointment."
"You're going to get an ultrasound, right?" Yukino asked. Lucy smiled and nodded. "Yay! You have to call me, okay?"
"Don't worry, I will," Lucy laughed. She quickly hugged her friends before Gray drug her away.
The ride back to Magnolia seemed to drag on more than the graduation ceremony. Everyone was on the edge if their seats, quite literally. They truly understood the expression at that point. They were all just so eager to figure out the gender of the baby, and to make sure that everything was going well.
"Now, I'll need you all to wait in the waiting area. I'll allow Gray to come back. The room is pretty small," Dr. Bisca had told them when they finally arrived. It wouldn't have been necessary to say, but literally everyone one of their friends showed up, even though they were begged not to. At least Gray's family didn't know, beside Renji and Gin, or they would be marching in there with a few opinions of their own, which would just make things worse.
Sadly, Ur was not able to help with the procedure. She was helping with a surgery. Dr. Bisca managed just fine on her own, though. She had Lucy lay down on the table before beginning.
"I'm really nervous," Lucy told Gray. He pulled up a chair and sat beside her. She smiled at that.
"Really? I'm pretty excited," he laughed. He rubbed the back of his neck and looked away. "My nerves settled down after I stopped throwing up last night."
"Now who's pregnant?" she teased him, poking his chest. He laughed and grabbed her hand, rubbing his thumb over her knuckles.
"Would you guys like to see your baby?" Dr. Bisca asked. The couple's heads snapped to the screen. She pointed to the screen as she spoke. "You can see the head, a little outline of a foot, and an arm."
Lucy smiled brightly. She was getting a look at the baby inside her. It was her and Gray's child. She looked over to him, hoping to see a smile on his face as well. It surprised her what she saw. He was still holding onto her hand, but his free arm was folding with his head resting on it. "Gray?" she asked softly.
He brought his head back up and wiped his face with his arm. "I'm fine," he said. She smiled. He was crying. That was the cutest thing ever. She knew someone crying wasn't cute, but the reason was cute. He was just that happy.
Dr. Bisca hummed, still looking at the screen. "Are you ready to know the gender?" she asked. Lucy nodded eagerly. "Well, it looks like it's a girl!"
Lucy's heart practically stopped. She had to remind herself to keep breathing. In. Out. In. Out. She was going to have a little girl! What would she look like? Blonde hair? Black hair? Blue hair that seemed to weasel it's way into the family? Or maybe even white? Would she had deep brown eyes, or sharp black ones? So many thoughts swirled around in her mind.
Her creative thoughts soon turned to horror filled ones. She would have to by so many expensive things like a crib, car seat, and other one-time purchases. Then there were things that she would be buying a lot of, like clothes, diapers, and food. The list just went on and on. Not to mention that a lot of her clothing would get ruined, considering how messy babies were.
She was only four months away from having a child, and she didn't even have a job! She was fresh out of high school, not even having plans for college. College! Would she even be able to attend? She's heard stories about high school drop-outs. Almost all pregnant teens quit because they couldn't keep up with school. So how would college be any different? And how could she just not be there for her child all day? Would she hire a babysitter? That was just more money.
Gray. She was almost too scared to think about him. He promised her that they would get married. Would that be before or after the baby was born? It was a matter of whether or not the baby would be a Heartfilia or Fullbuster. But if she was a Heartfilia, then her name would be different than her parent's and possible future sibling's. How would explaining that influence her? Would it show that it was okay to her pregnant at such a young age?
What about moving in together? Or would they just stay with their parent's? They would obviously be an unconvinced, no matter which house they chose. If they chose one over the other, would the other get upset? If they lived alone to spare the heartache, what would they do about money? Lucy couldn't work for the first few months of the child's life, so that meant Gray would have to work enough to support them all. That would be such a burden on him. But what if he wanted to go to college? He obviously couldn't while working. If he really wanted to, though, he would have to work two jobs just to pay for college as well. That left him with very little time to sleep, let alone spend time with his family.
She herself was also an issue. How did she deserve to raise a child? She was still one herself! What kind of image would she be giving off? When people looked at her, would they think her daughter would be the same way, with piercings and tattoos? Lucy didn't have any tattoos, but in all honestly, it was only a matter of time. How could she raise a child to be a productive member of society?
Gray studied Lucy's face. Dr. Bisca had left long ago to give them some time if they wanted to talk, and also to print out the pictures from the ultrasound. She said she would leave them at the nurse's desk to pick up so they could tell everyone the news themselves.
He desperately wanted to know what was going through her mind. She would from looking about ready to burst into tears, to be straight angry, to being straight-out depressed. He decided to wake her from her trance the sweetest way possible. He moved so he was sitting in front of her on the bed, then leaned in to give her the sweetest kiss he could.
True enough, Lucy was snapped from her thoughts. Instead of being happy, though, she burst into tears, dropping her head to Gray's chest. Violet sobs racked her body as he could do nothing but hold her.
"There's nothing to be scared about," he told her. He wasn't being a pessimist about the situation, unlike her. He was just taking things one step at a time. "The baby will be born, we'll figure things out, make some mistakes along the way, and just laugh and keep going. That's how we've made it this far, right? It'll all work out. Whatever your thinking, don't give it another though. We'll cross that bridge when we get there."
Lucy smiled. He always knew just what to say. Sometimes she thought he could write a poem. His words were just so calming and soothing. But he was totally right. She shouldn't be worrying about the little details when it didn't matter. They had four months to decide things, so there was no point in rushing. There was just one thing that was bothering her, though.
"Just to make thing clear, I'm not letting Natsu pick the name for her," she said.
Gray let out a fake gasp. "What? I thought Iggy was the perfect name!"
The two laughed together, knowing that as long as they had each other, nothing could go wrong. Well, so wrong that it couldn't be fixed.
I decided to make the baby a girl. I'm not sure which gender got the most suggestions, but I guess that would have been nice to see. I really picked the baby to be a girl because I fell in love with the name if you guys suggested. I'm not going to say who that is, though. So I want you all to give a couple names in your review. Maybe you'll say a name that I like better?
