Title Of Story: Second Chances
Chapter Number: 19
Chapter Name: Back To Starling

Felicity
Telling Madelyn that she wouldn't see Thea or Roy again was heartbreaking. Oliver explained to her that they had been in an accident and were now in heaven, she still didn't fully understand what that meant but she did understand she wouldn't be seeing them again. She cried and it was heartbreaking seeing her so upset and not being able to do anything for her, it was sad and we did our best to take her mind off it but nothing seemed to work.

Oliver was in charge of the funeral and he had tried getting into contact with Roy's parents so they knew that their son had died, he found out that Roy's father was dead and his mother was in rehab. The rehab facility passed on the information but she didn't want to come to the funeral of fear of making her relapse which I sort of understand but if I was in her position I would make the effort. Her son had died and she wouldn't be able to give him her final goodbyes.

It had been a horrible couple of weeks but somehow me and Oliver managed to get through it, we spoke about what Thea and Roy would've wanted but in truth we didn't know. Oliver probably never expected to be planning his little sisters and brother-in-laws funeral, yet here he was. He had been so occupied with the funeral that he hadn't really spend much time with Madelyn and this was when she needed him most. I tried to explain to her that her daddy was very busy and he had a lot of things to do.

Thankfully everything was planned now but unfortunately we still had to do the funeral, that was going to be the hardest part of all of this. Watching the two of them getting put into the ground, Madelyn wasn't going to the funeral itself. She was coming with us to Starling City but for the funeral she was going to be staying with Lyla and Sara, I don't think a funeral is a place for a child… also I don't want one of her last memories of Thea and Roy to be watching them get lowered into the ground.

Speaking of going to Starling City, we were in the car as we speak on our way there. Madelyn was fast asleep in the car, she had fallen asleep about an hour ago and I didn't want to disturb her. She knew we were going back to Starling City to say goodbye to Thea and Roy and that made her sad. I looked over at Oliver and I could see the sadness in his eyes, he tried putting on a brave face for me and Madelyn but I want him to know that he doesn't have to "I love you" I told him.

"I love you too" He replied, he put his free hand on my thigh and gave me a smile. The smile didn't quite reach his eyes but I smiled back.

"Nearly there" I stated as I saw a sign for Starling City.

When we finally reached Starling City we checked into our hotel and woke Madelyn up before going to meet Diggle, Lyla and Sara at home. I was sad that the first time we meet up with our friends in a really long time is going to be for something so sad and heartbreaking. We had lost part of our family and we were finally laying them to rest, after everything they have gone through together it was a car crash that killed them.

The front door opened and Diggle stood there with Lyla, we all greeted each other and went into the apartment "Madelyn, you look so grown up!" Lyla said to Madelyn as the two walked to Sara's bedroom so the two girls could play.

Whilst the girls were playing I sat down with Oliver and Diggle "How's the pregnancy going?" Digg asked me.

"Everything's good, he's gonna be a big baby I think" I told them and indicated to my large bump.

"You look amazing" Oliver jumped in.

"I feel like an elephant" I stated.

"You're the most beautiful elephant I have ever seen" Oliver replied.

"Got any names picked out?" Lyla asked as she came and joined us.

"Not yet, we are disputing that at the moment. Oliver wants something original and different, I want something a little more classical and old school. We haven't agreed on one name yet… at all" I told her "With Madelyn I didn't have anyone to argue this with, I had my choice and no one to dispute it" I said with a smile and looked over at Oliver.

"Well I think it's fair that as your named Madelyn, I name the new baby" He said with a cheeky grin.

"I don't know about that" I replied.

"I have a couple names in mind I think you might like" He told me.

"We'll see" I said.

We stayed at Lyla and Diggle's for a few more hours before Madelyn came in to tell us she was hungry and tired. We said our goodbyes to our friends with a promise of seeing them tomorrow and them we left, we stopped off at Big Belly Burger to get some food and them we went back to the hotel. Madelyn was asleep in the car as we pulled up so Oliver carried her to bed and tucked her in, I stood in the door way and watched them. Oliver was always so careful with her, as if he was scared he would break her.

I was sat on mine and Oliver's bed when he had finished his shower, he dried himself off and put some boxers on before coming onto the bed and laying next to me. He put one arm around me and I instantly snuggled into him, his other hand then went to my bump "So what are these names you think I might like?" I asked him.

"I was thinking we could name him Roy" Oliver said.

"It's perfect" I replied.

I looked up at Oliver and saw he looked a little confused "You agree? No argument?" He questioned me.

"I can't think of a better way to remember our fallen friend" I said.

"Ok it's settled them, we will call him Roy" He said with a smile on his face.

"At Digg's place you said names… as in plural… what other names you got?" I asked.

"I was trying to think of a middle name, something for Thea and all I could come up with was Theodore. I'm not sure I even like that name yet but I thought it might be something that we could consider" He suggested.

"Ok, we'll think about it… together" I told him.

Oliver
Felicity soon fell asleep after talking about baby names but I didn't mind, it was times like these when everyone was asleep that I felt happiest at the moment. Not that I didn't love Felicity and Madelyn but I felt that when they were awake I couldn't show my true feelings to them. They need me to be strong for them right now, I can't be breaking down in front of them. Felicity was going through enough right now and Madelyn didn't fully understand still what was going on. When they were asleep I could let it all out and think things through properly about everyone going on.

I slipped out of bed and got dressed as quietly as I could and left Felicity a note to tell her that I had gone out to clear my head in case she woke up. I didn't want her worrying and stressing herself out if she woke up and I was gone, that was the last thing she needed right now.

I wasn't really sure where I was going, I was just walking. My feet were guiding me. Eventually I did come to a stop and it was outside Verdant. A part of me wanted to go in but another part of me wanted to stay out and just leave here all together, I should be in California with my wife and Madelyn getting ready for the birth of our son… I should not be here burying my baby sister and her boyfriend!

The can next to was the only thing I could take my frustrations out on, I kicked it as hard as I could and yelled as I did it. Why was she coming down to surprise me? She should have waited until we had the baby and then we would have come and visited her. If we hadn't moved away then she wouldn't have been on the road to visit us in the first place, no matter what way you look at this I'm just as responsible for their deaths as the guy who crashed into them.

I started walking away from Verdant when I saw some kids, 17 years old, trying to break into the back of Verdant "Hey!" I called out and ran over to them. One of the guys was nearly in through a gap but I pulled him out "What do you think you're doing here?" I asked him and his friends.

"You're Oliver Queen? You own this place don't you?" He questioned.

"No my sister does, she just recently died and if I find you or anyone else trying to break in I will kill you… You hear I was trapped on an island for years?" I asked and they all nodded "I had to learn how to kill to survive, it would be all to easy to snap your necks… not get out of here!" I shouted and they legged it.

"That was a little harsh" A voice said from behind me. I turned around and saw Diggle standing there with his hands in his pockets "Felicity woke up and saw your note, she's worried about you Oliver. She said you have been more and more distant with her and Madelyn and it's totally understandable but they need you right now" He told me.

"What about me?!" I lashed out at him "Who is there for me when I am burying my baby sister! I am sick and tired of being strong for everyone else!" I shouted at him.

"Me…You're my brother, remember? You be strong for them and I will be strong for you until the day I die" He said to me.
