The two men gaped at each other. The street seemed to be completely deserted all the sudden. It was so quite that they could almost hear each other's heartbeats.
"Impossible," Gray said breathlessly. He took a step back, holding his hand behind him as if gripping something.
"I thought I could leave town without being noticed," the man confessed. He smiled sadly. "Gray."
Gray shook his head. He stumbled backwards, falling down. He crawled back a few feet, but was too stunned to move any further. He blinked away the tears that formed in his eyes. "You're suppose to be dead!" he yelled vehemently. His jaw clenched. "How in the hell are you here?!"
The man knelt before Gray, putting a hand on the latter's shoulder. "I can't believe how much you've grown. I suppose you wouldn't be the same size after so long."
Gray shrugged the hand away. "Why would you?" he whispered. "More importantly, how? I saw you. You were dead." He shook his head. "Tell me how! Didn't you care about us at all?! What about Mom!" He was yelling loudly, but it never occurred to him to lower his voice.
"I cared about you all very much. Gray, I loved your mother more than-"
Gray cut him off. "Do you realize what you've done? How you've ruined us?" It took almost all his willpower to not punch the man in the face. "Ultear cried every day for months. Lyon still isn't the same. Wendy...she was heartbroken. Her favorite person left her. I can't remember how long it took before she could look at me without crying and running away. I was so scared for Mom. She was being so strong, but I could tell she was about to break down at any moment if we weren't careful." Tears started to slip from his eyes. "Do you realize how hard it was for me?! I had to grow up without a father! Lyon was older. He managed. I was still young, just at that age where I needed you the most. Everything was beginning to be so different, and you just left us! What kind of father are you?!"
Kyle looked down at his son with eyes filled with emotions. "Why don't you come with me? I'm staying in the next town over. I think a talk is long overdue."

"Thanks for getting me," Lucy told Ciel, dialing Gray's number once again. She waited for him almost an hour before she realized he wasn't coming back for her. Ciel came by and picked her up to take her to Gray's house. She figured he would show up there. It was a little unsettling to know that he just ran off.
"Lucy!" Wendy cheered, running outside to great her. She put her hands on the blonde's large stomach and kissed her cotton shirt. It was something she started doing somewhat recently, and everyone thought it was adorable.
"Hey, Sweetie," Lucy said, ruffling the girl's hair. "Is Gray home yet?"
Wendy blinked a few times. "I thought he was with you today?" She looked around as if expecting to see him hiding in the bushes or something. "I haven't seen him since he left this morning."
Lucy looked over her shoulder to Ciel who share her worried look. Looking back to Wendy, it was clear the girl was about to cry, scared for her older brother. " I'm just kidding. He isn't missing. Mom wanted him to help her with a few things, so he went back to my house. Don't worry." It hurt to lie to her, but she couldn't let the young girl be sad.
Ciel put his hand on Lucy's shoulder, silently telling her everything would be alright.

The scowl on Gray's face failed to soften during the ride to where Kyle staying. It took almost three hours to get to their destination. When they finally got there, Renji was standing outside. It took about two seconds for Gray to realize they were at his uncle's house.
"I see you weren't as careful as you said you would be," Renji laughed. He tried to hug Gray and greeting, but the latter stepped away.
"How long have you known?" Gray asked breathlessly. It was almost too much. Not only has his father been alive all along, he lived with Renji! How many times has Gray seen his uncle? How many tears did the older man shed at the funeral? It was all a lie. But who else knew? Did Ur? Is that why she cried, because she knew that Kyle left her family in the worse way? That would explain why they never went to his father's grave.
"Your head is going to explode if you think any harder," Kyle said. "Just come inside and let us explain." He started walking inside, Renji a step behind. Gray reluctantly followed.
They all sat in the living room. Kyle looked so relaxed, like nothing was different. As if he wasn't seeing his son for the first time in over five years. "Before you ask a million questions, allow me to explain," he spoke.
"Before you do," Renji interrupted, "Gray, I want you to know that I have known Kyle was alive all this time. He just recently came to stay with me, a couple weeks ago, actually. I haven't told him anything about you or anyone else in the family. He hasn't even seen any pictures. So really does know nothing about you. You'll have to catch him up here."
Gray had to grip the edge of the couch to stop himself from lashing out.
"Now let me tell my story." Kyle took a deep breath. "Back when you were still a kid, a drank all the time. I didn't really think about the consequences. When you thought I died, everyone thought I did, too. Renji was the one to drive me to the hospital, even though everyone said I was dead for good. On the way there I woke up. It was really a miracle. He didn't even miss a beat. He turned the car around and drove for almost six hours in one direction." He stopped to laugh. "He literally shoved me out of the car and told me if I ever get within two-hundred miles of any of my family, he would personally kill me."
"It was really my fault that he never came back, so I just kept the guilt to myself," Renji explained, sorrow in his voice. "I still made a gravestone for him, but I still wanted to make sure no one went there. I'm a failure as a brother and an uncle."
Gray stood up, visibly shaking. "How could you listen to him!" He pointed an accusing finger at Renji. "He may have said he'd kill you, but how can you just leave us so easily?!"
"I thought that it would be best for you all to move on." Kyle had a truly sad expression on his face. "Leaving you guys was the hardest choice of my life. It wasn't about Renji's threat. I knew he wouldn't actually kill me. I just thought that I caused you all enough sorrow. I wasn't thinking clearly."
"An apology isn't good enough!" Gray screamed at the top of his lungs. His throat was starting to hurt, but he didn't care. "Do you realize how many tears were shed because you felt bad?! You're a horrible father! I wish you would have died!"
"Gray!" Renji roared.
Gray fell to his knees, his face to the floor, sobs racking his body. He felt like his whole life was a lie. He pushed his friends away, let his grades drop, and just became and empty shell for a year. It was all pointless sorrow. He had to watch Wendy cry when she say him, just because he looked like his father for so many years. Sneaking out of his room at night, he said outside Ur's room, listening to her cries. He felt as if all the tears he never cried were coming out all at once.
"I don't care how much you may resent him for what he did," Renji scolded. "Don't ever wish someone dead!"
Gray may have heard him, but he didn't respond. He just tried to calm down, which resulted in crying more. He couldn't bring himself to be happy about seeing his father again. He was just too hurt.
Suddenly, he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket. He knew Lucy was trying to call him earlier, so he figured it was her again. He ignored it before, so he was going to again. When the buzzing stopped, it just started again. This happened four more times before he realized something was wrong.
Pulling his phone out of his pocket, he saw he had ten new text messages and six missed calls. The first was from Lucy, but the fest were from his other friends. All the texts were telling him to answer his phone. He was given the opportunity seconds later when Natsu called him.
His sobs barely under control, he pulled the phone up to his ear. He didn't get to say hello before Natsu was shouting in his ear.
"I don't know where the fuck you are or by you aren't answering your phone, but you better get to the hospital right now!"
