Into The Woods

"Spock no! I am not going to explain musicals to you again"

"I am not saying that I dislike it Captain, merely that it is extremely unlikely for people to start bursting into song in this manner. I find it most inexplicable."

"Argh! I find you inexplicable Spock! You! It's an art form it doesn't have to make sense!"

"You are admitting it is nonsense then?"

"That makes it sound so –"

"You have stated just now it is not sense therefore the only conclusion is –"

"Oh my god, are you two arguing?" Bones chose this moment to appear and was grinning with delight at this fact.

"I would not call it arguing doctor – that implies animosity –"

"Oh here we go – I'm sorry I spoke."

"The Captain and I were merely having a discussion on the nature of musical theatre –"

"Aye and some of us are trying to watch this movie!" called Scotty from the back row, which led to a cheer and the rest of the crew booing their Captain and First Officer and throwing popcorn which, as Kirk pointed out later, some poor soul would have to clean and given he started it, it should probably be Scotty.

After that they kept a contrite silence to avoid irking the crew, apart from at the many moments when all of them, including Scotty could not help but sing along.

"So" Kirk said, when they were through and he felt he could safely speak again without troubling anyone – "Spock?"

"I rather think I liked it captain, there was a great deal of musical integrity and important themes in the story telling."

"Actually I was going to ask if you didn't think that prince looked rather like me" he grinned cockily, striking a sudden dashing pose with a foot up on one of the seats.

"I do believe a certain resemblance –" Spock began;

"Are you kidding?" Bones cut in – "The prince was both handsome and charming!"

"Thanks Bones – " Kirk deflated – "Always good to get your vote of confidence. At least I don't most resemble a big bad wolf."

Bones harrumphed.

"What about you Spock? What fairy tale creature are you?"

"Captain your question is perplexing given I know you are aware of my species and that I'm no manner of –"

"Well of course he can't answer that!" Bones grinned, re- invigorated by his own predictable humour – "That movie didn't have any elves or other manner of woodland sprite."

"Doctor, your medical expertise and the necessity of your presence on this ship not withstanding one might be tempted to suggest you were both tedious and your humour, such as it is, predictable."

Bones boggled;

"Spock did you just insult me?"

"Oh I wouldn't call it insulting Bones" Kirk clapped him on the back, grinning from ear to ear – "That implies animosity."
