Episode 5: King Boo Down Below

When the five united heroes arrived back in Sirena Beach, they instantly noticed that there was something frightening about the scenery that the majestic beach portrayed. It was no longer the beautiful painting that it used to be, but a nightmare of misery. It was as if someone grabbed a paintbrush of darkness and slandered upon the once glorious masterpiece. Dark clouds hovered above and blocked out the evening sun's light, rain crashed down in violent waves, and the wind blue rigorously, trying to knock down everything that stood. It was strangely eerie and so very familiar to Sonic and Mario. They had no idea what they were feeling, but they were getting a strong sense of nostalgia. It was the weather that was brought to the wonderful beach named Sirena Beach. The weather brought them that strong nostalgia.

Upon reaching Hotel Delfino, Mario and the awesome gang learned from the hotel manager that the glorious hotel's casino was closed after some creepy sounds emerged from the area's basement. He claimed that the horrific sounds were indescribable and so very truly horrifying that he could not explain it with words. It scared everyone, he had said. So, he had to shut down the casino until the problem was solved. Right after he finished his explanation, he sent Mario, Sonic, Pauline, Silver, and Blaze into the hotel so they could investigate and get rid of whatever that was making the terrifying noises. The quintet didn't get to have a say in it whatsoever, but were willing to take care of the problem. They couldn't just stand around and allow the problem to persist! They were heroes for crying out loud, they just had to do something about it, you know!

"Hey, Mario…?" Sonic broke the silence as he and his group approached the casino doors. The blue hedgehog sounded incredibly troubled and there was something on his mind, definitely.

Hearing the blue hedgehog, Mario turned his head in his direction in a wondering manner. "Yeah? What's up, Sonic?" he wanted to know.

"I have this weird feeling," began Sonic.

Silver suddenly bounded over. "A weird feeling? What kind of weird feeling?"

"Yeah, tell us," commented Pauline as she joined in on the conversation that was only supposed to be meant for Mario and Sonic.

Blaze walked over, her arms folded. "I'd like to know what kind of 'weird' feeling you have too, Sonic. I hope it isn't a bad one though."

"Ahem, excuse me?" Sonic sent them a look. "I don't believe I speaking to any of you!"

Nobody moved.

Sighing, Sonic rolled his emerald green eyes. "Fine, fine! Anyway, okay. Well," he cleared his throat. "Before Mario and I went on this vacation, like a few months ago, he and I found out that Luigi actually won a mansion!"

"No way!" Silver was awestruck.

"Yes way!" piped up Mario.

Sonic nodded his blue head. "Yeah, yeah. But, anyway, in the end we found out that the mansion wasn't really there to begin with and that it was all just some scheme some Boos came up with! Before we found that out, however, Mario and I were captured by King Boo himself!" he revealed.

"Who's King Boo?" Pauline questioned, curiosity painting her facial features.

"Yeah, you talked as if we're supposed to know who this person is…" Blaze trailed off, frowning.

Silver raised a finger. "Is King Boo the king of all Boos?"

"Yes, Silver," Mario stated dryly, giving him a look. "King Boo is the king of all Boos."

"Oh!"

Sonic went on with his story, "King Boo had the nerve to trap Mario and I in a painting! We couldn't escape and we had to be rescued by Luigi, Tails, Princess Daisy, Shadow, and a girl named Vivian!"

"Yup, they defeated King Boo in a battle and now…King Boo is a portrait in a gallery somewhere," Mario added with a nod of his head, finishing up the story for the others.

"I get it," Blaze said. "But what does this whole story have to do with your 'weird feeling', Sonic?"

"Well, it's just the feeling I had when we went to that mansion," Sonic responded, trying to make the feline understand. "I feel…the same way right now for some reason."

Mario stared at him. "Is that so?"

"It is so, yeah."

Pauline patted the blue hedgehog's shoulder and gave him a concerned expression. "Don't worry, Sonic. Nothing bad is going to happen."

"I sure hope not!" remarked the speedster.

"Anyway, let's keep going, shall we?" Silver suggested, itching to see what was making those 'creepy sounds' that the hotel manager told them about.

Everyone complied with the hedgehog from the future. They all approached the casino doors and saw that a Pianta employee was standing there and waiting for them. "Ahh, Mario! Right this way, please!" he said when he saw them. He opened the doors for them and allowed them entrance.

They all walked in without a word. Once they were in, they realized that there were a bunch of Boos flying around! Like before, they had their mouths wide open and revealed sharp teeth and their hideous tongues. Drool seeped out of their open mouths and dropped down onto the carpeted floor as they floated around the casino.

"Ew! So disgusting!" Pauline shivered, hands clenching into fists at her sides.

"Quite repulsive…" said Blaze as she surveyed the Boos. Sure, she thought they were disgusting and hideous, but she wasn't freaking out like the burgundy haired woman.

Silver moved forward and threw a few Psychic Knives at the floating Boos, watching as they growled. His move did nothing and the poor hedgehog visibly deflated. "Oh well…" he muttered in disappointment.

"Were the Boos making the noises?" Sonic wondered out loud as he used a Sonic Wind on the Boos, watching as they blew away from them.

"The sounds came from the basement…" FLUDD answered the blue hedgehog.

"Oh yeah!"

Mario jumped forward and landed on top of a Boo, squishing it and making it disappear. He did that with the other Boos that were in there and then used FLUDD to spray a few more. While the red-capped hero did that, Pauline sauntered over to a few Coins that were decorating the ground. She was about to pick one up, but it suddenly transfigured into a Boo! The Boo moved forward and licked her face with its massive and slimy tongue, covering the poor woman's face with its drool.

A scream ripped through Pauline's throat and poured out of her mouth in vigorous waves. She backed away and then summoned her wind abilities, blowing everything and everyone away from around her. She completely freaked out! When she was through throwing a massive fit, she collapsed to her knees and desperately tried to get the drool off of her face.

Highly annoyed, Mario marched over to the lady and then used FLUDD to spray her in the face with water. Pauline was knocked backwards, soaked with water. She was thoroughly drenched, but at least her face was cleaned from the drool!

"I almost died…" trailed Silver as he breathed deeply, fixing his fur that had gotten messed up and unkempt from the violent wind that Pauline had conjured. His eyes were wide with surprise and mild fear.

"You're exaggerating," Blaze told him with a shake of her head, fur standing on end. "However, why did you display such insane behavior just a moment ago, Pauline? What in the world has gotten into you?" the purple feline thought the human would be more cool and calmer than that.

Sonic zipped over in a blink of an eye and rolled his eyes. "This isn't the first time she's freaked out like this!" he informed them as he helped the burgundy colored haired woman off of the ground, noticing that she was soaked with water. "When we were in Ricco Harbor, there was a spider creature on her back. When we told her, she completely freaked!"

"Oh, hush!" Pauline hissed, embarrassed.

"Look, guys!" Silver suddenly talked, jogging over to the giant roulette wheel on the ground and pointing at a purple glowing tile on the roulette. "This certainly looks out of place!"

Blaze dashed towards the giant roulette and stopped before the tile, gazing at it in pure contemplation. Then, without saying anything, the purple cat performed a Ground Pound on the purple tile. Immediately, the center of the giant roulette wheel began to descend down into the ground, heading down into the basement.

"Whoa, wait for us!" Sonic howled, zooming over with his supersonic speed and jumping onto the large roulette that was still descending into the ground.

Pauline, Silver, and Mario all just stared, mouths wide open in a stunned gape.

"Come on, you three!" Bureizu za Kyatto shouted at them, waving them over. "You're going to miss out if you don't hurry up!"

"Ah! That's not good!" Silver moved forward and joined them on the descending roulette.

"Mama mia!" Mario sprinted over and got on the roulette.

"Don't leave me behind!" exclaimed Pauline as she wobbled over, still drenched with water.

Once they all reached the basement on the giant roulette wheel, the roulette wheel connected to another roulette wheel at the bottom of the strange looking basement. The tiles on the roulette wheel began spinning around and around at a mild pace. Everyone was now scattered.

"Where in the world are we?" Silver asked his friends, surveying their new surroundings. "This place looks nothing like a basement!"

Suddenly, before anyone could answer the hedgehog's question, a horrifying sound penetrated their ears. It was the cackle of a Boo! It sounded really familiar to Sonic and Mario and the two individuals froze up at the sound of it.

"N-No…" Sonic breathed, paling.

"This can't be…!" stuttered Mario.

Pauline put her gaze on the two males as she wrung out her long hair. "What? What are you guys talking about?" she demanded to know.

As Pauline talked to the two males and as Silver marveled at the new area, Blaze Ground Pounded into the purple tiles that kept popping up around the moving roulette. After that, something came…

"King Boo…" Sonic and Mario simultaneously commented, fear coloring their tone.

Right on cue, the humongous king of all Boos appeared right before them in the center part of the moving roulette. He looked bigger than ever before and he had a gigantic tongue hanging out of his open, hideous mouth. A long string of drool hung from the ghost's fat and abnormally long tongue and constantly dripped onto the ground. A big slot machine appeared in front of the king and it portrayed pictures on each of its slots.

"That's King Boo?!" yelled Silver, clearly shocked.

"The king of all Boos?" Blaze whispered, staring at the hideous monster before them.

"I-I can't look…!" Pauline was freaked out as she covered her eyes with her hands, trembling.

Sonic grabbed Mario's arm and tugged on it, heart pounding against his chest. "M-Mario! I don't remember King Boo being that big! What happened?!" he rambled, obviously frightened by the ghost.

"I don't know, honestly," the plumber blubbered unsurely. "Maybe he put on a couple of pounds?" he suggested, not knowing how the king of Boos became so massive.

"I hope he doesn't make a painting out of us again like he did before!" Sonic wailed, flailing his arms about wildly like a bird would do when flapping its wings.

Suddenly, King Boo spoke while sending everyone a malicious look. His hatred was more directed at the red plumber and blue hedgehog. "So, I see you fools have finally come across me again!"

"We had no idea that you were down here!" Sonic shouted, defending himself and his friends.

"I was hoping to run into Luigi and his foolish friends, but they are not here!" King Boo slurred while more drool slipped out of his open mouth. "I wanted to bring them misery and pain for the rest of their lives for defeating me! I wanted REVENGE!"

"Sounds like something Shadow would say…" trailed Mario nervously.

King Boo went on in complete fury. "Well, I guess that can't be helped! You will all do well in satisfying my hunger for revenge! I shall punish all of you and turn you into my paintings! BLEAH HA HA HA!" the deranged Boo cackled insanely.

Then the battle commenced.

Silver started it off, wondering what King Boo was going on about, but he sure didn't want to be turned into a painting. He levitated over, using his abilities to make the slot machine move. The slots all landed on a pineapple and King Boo growled, spitting out various fruits in all directions.

"OW!" a pineapple pounded into Sonic's face.

"YOW!" a pear slammed into Mario's gut, causing the poor guy to double over in agony.

A couple of bananas knocked into Pauline's head, sending her to the ground. "Ouch…!" she moaned, losing two pieces of her Life.

"Hah!" Silver performed his Hold Smash attack and grabbed the oncoming assault of fruits with his powers. He held them for a moment and then flung them back at the overgrown Boo. King Boo swallowed them up and then spat out some drool onto the hedgehog.

Silver screamed.

Blaze didn't get hit at all by the fruits and then noticed that there was a fruit that really didn't look like a fruit at all. It was actually a pepper. Thinking fast, the purple feline scooped up the pepper and then threw it at King Boo's open mouth. King Boo swallowed it and then howled.

"AHHHHH! It Burns! IT BURNS!" the king of all Boos yowled like a banshee, spitting out flames from his mouth and wiggling his massive tongue about because of how hot the pepper had been.

"He seems to dislike spicy things!" FLUDD told Blaze in a tone filled with urgency. "Now is your chance!"

Listening, Blaze grabbed a few bananas from the ground and hurled it at King Boo who was knocked backwards, taking some damage from the action. He growled in pain, but then started cackling as if it was funny. However, Blaze knew that that was his weakness. King Boo disappeared within the ground, bringing the slot machine with him.

"Did you guys see what I just did?" Blaze questioned her comrades, seeing them get up off of the ground and tend to their booboos. Silver, however, was constantly wiping at his face, screaming.

"I saw it!" Sonic answered with a nod of his head, sighing heavily. "What now though? He's gone!"

Mario moved over to the purple tile spinning around the roulette and Ground Pounded into it, causing King Boo to show himself again along with the slot machine of doom. "There he is! Let's get this over with!"

"I'll just…stand back and watch!" Pauline informed them, too traumatized by the hideous Boo to even do anything. She was perfectly fine with watching.

The quartet didn't have a problem with that whatsoever! Mario ran forward and used FLUDD to spray King Boo who growled in contempt, using his large tongue to move it across the slots on the slot machine. They moved rapidly before landing on a pineapple like before!

"Take this, you mindless fools!" boomed King Boo as he spat out various fruits like last time.

Dodging each and every one of them, Sonic jumped forward and called out, "Sonic Wind!" He performed his awesome attack and watched as King Boo flew back a bit, making him a bit dizzy from the sudden assault.

"How about this? Take this!" Silver was still freaked out by the drool getting on his face, but he wasn't going to drop out of the fight! The hedgehog grabbed the pepper on the ground with his powers and flung it at the king.

King Boo swallowed it again. "ACK! Hot, hot, HOT!" he squawked, swinging his overgrown tongue about, fire blasting out of his mouth along with drool.

"Take this, King Boo!" Mario announced as he threw a pear at King Boo.

King Boo yowled in agony and growled out in choleric fury. "YOU SHALL ALL FACE MY UNBEATABLE WRATH!"

Sonic struck a cocky pose, smirking. "What was that? I don't see any of your 'unbeatable wrath'! You're going down, King Boo!"

"Yeah, once and for all!" put in Mario.

"You'll never be a match for us!" Blaze exclaimed, taking a fighting stance.

"We are not to be trifled with!" input Silver.

"So, you fools say!" King Boo viciously stated. "You shall all perish and become my paintings!"

Rolling his eyes, Mario sprayed the king again with FLUDD and caused the overgrown Boo to swipe his nasty tongue along the slots of the slot machine again. The slots spun for a few seconds before all of them stopped on a question mark.

"What happens now?" Sonic questioned, looking around in a very clueless manner.

"I am unsure…" Blaze muttered.

Suddenly, two blue Cataquacks and three Electro-Koopas climbed out of King Boo's mouth and landed on the ground before the heroes in a very vicious manner, ready to bring pain upon those who stood before them.

"Allow these past foes to break you all down like crumbling walls!" laughed King Boo in dark glee.

Sonic ignored King Boo and wasted no time in doing a Spin Dash into one of the Cataquacks. The Cataquack quacked like a duck and flipped over on to its head. The blue hedgehog gave it a Ground Pound and it disappeared in a puff of smoke. "Nice!" Sonic chortled.

"Fear the power of the flame…" Blaze said in a very threatening voice as she faced the other blue Cataquack. She suddenly burst in flames and then blasted a stream of flames at the Cataquack, burning it to a crisp.

Silver chuckled at that, using his Hold Smash move to hold the Electro-Koopas in place. "Hey, why don't we all enjoy ourselves some BBQ Cataquack?" he cracked a joke.

"That was mildly funny…" trailed Mario.

Pauline, who was still watching the whole ordeal, couldn't help but laugh at the joke. "That was HILARIOUS, Silver!" she howled with laughter.

Silver smiled. "Yes!"

Anyway, Mario and Sonic worked together to finish off the Electro-Koopas that Silver had captured. King Boo was furious when he saw this happened and he growled like a delusional banshee ready to pounce.

"How is this even possible?!" King Boo hissed like a rattlesnake. "I can't believe this is happening! I will NOT lose to losers like you!"

"Losers?" Sonic folded his arms. "We're winners!"

"Couldn't have said it better myself, Sonic!" Mario remarked with a grin.

King Boo angrily moved his tongue along the slots on the slot machine for the third time, fury written all over his horrid face. The slots spun quickly before stopping on pineapples again! He groaned inwardly at this, wondering why this was happening to him.

Immediately, he spat out fruits at the heroes and they repeated the actions from before. When someone threw a fruit at him, he was knocked backwards and all he saw was darkness as everything faded around him. He spun around rapidly and screeched in agony before popping like a balloon.

A Shine Sprite sprung up from the ground, bathing everyone and everything in its brilliant light.

"You guys did it!" Pauline jumped up in the air, clasping her hands together with a large smile spread across her face. She appeared to be absolutely thrilled!

"PERFECT!" Silver cheered, happy that they accomplished something else.

Sonic whistled. "That was TIGHT!"

"Fine," Blaze grinned, thinking they did a fine job defeating King Boo and retrieving a Shine Sprite.

"You guys did an excellent job!" FLUDD praised in a jolly tone of voice.

Grinning from ear to ear, Mario grabbed the Shine Sprite with both hands and held it up, letting out a wordless cheer.
