DAY TWO ; 2:11 A.M.
Sakura Oogami had the feeling that if she didn't go do something now, she would fall asleep. And considering how lightheaded she was feeling, how much blood she thought she must have lost from Syo's wound, and how her lower back throbbed, she didn't know if she'd wake up in any state to defend Asahina. That was, if she woke up at all.
She would go cut some firewood. She didn't know if they would end up using it, as it could be dangerous giving her current state of body, but it would help her stay awake, to do something. She'd leave the guns with Asahina, who was at this point fast asleep.
She shook Asahina's shoulder, and Asahina blinked open her eyes, still sleepy. "Asahina," she said. "I am going to go for a bit. I am leaving the guns with you."
Asahina muttered something and nodded. She looked as though she would wake up, so Sakura took her hatchet and headed into the trees. She managed to chop up a bit of firewood before she heard someone following her. Asahina? No, Asahina's steps wouldn't sound like that. Uneven, and strangely paced, it couldn't be-
A bag was wrapped around her face and she struck out behind her with her elbow, catching whoever it was in the stomach. They let out a fairly familiar squeak and the weight was off of her back. She ripped the bag off of her head and threw it to the side. She shined the flashlight in the face of Leon Kuwata.
He did not look very good. Blood caked his face around the bruises, Sakura was fairly certain that he could not see out of one eye and she was doubtful if he could see out of the other. He clutched his chest, holding his ribs tightly with his left arm. He was shaking harder than she thought that anyone could shake, as if simply being slightly upright was too much for him.
Hm. She had done a good job, then.
He gasped for air on the ground and struggled to his feet. He was clutching his own flashlight, shining it right in her eyes, and she held up the hand that held the flashlight to shield her eyes. When she did so, he leaped for her again. Normally, one-hundred-and-fifty-pound Leon Kuwata would not have shaken her in the slightest, but in her current state she topped over, somehow losing her grip on the hatchet and crashing to the ground. Leon wheezed out something and grabbed for it.
Sakura grabbed him by the neck and threw him as far as she could – but her strength left her, and he only landed about a foot away. He went straight for the hatchet again, panting, blood dripping from his nose and mouth.
She planted a foot in his chest and sent him backward again, and he let out a whine similar to a dying dog. He stayed back, and Sakura stood up to go grab the hatchet while he kneeled clutching his ribs.
Then something hit the back of her head going at least eighty miles per hour and she toppled forward, barely conscious, the majority of her working brain cursing herself for forgetting to break his damn arms when she'd had the chance. Baseball player, Sakura. Baseball player.
Kuwata scrambled past her, grabbed the hatchet, and then she felt a stabbing pain in her back. She resolved to keep her mouth shut, to not give this one any satisfaction whatsoever while he killed her. She could only hope that he wouldn't go for Asahina. That he wouldn't… hurt her… Asahina…
The blood loss and the hit to the back of the head was getting to her now, she had trouble putting together sentences in her head. The constant thudding of the hatchet in her back was the only consistent – consistent pain, consistent bleeding, consistent sound. Kuwata breathed erratically, a few whines coming out every other breath as his lungs contracting pushed his ribs into positions they shouldn't have been in.
As long as he didn't… get Asahina…
As long as that didn't happen…
Sakura Oogami would be glad to die.
Knowing that she had kept her honor enough to not kill, that she had protected Asahina for as long as she could and that Kuwata couldn't know where Asahina was, Sakura Oogami died with one last stroke of the hatchet separating her head most of the way from her body, neck held together by a few grisly strings of flesh.
18 STUDENTS REMAINING
And then next week we continue this story with what happens to Leon and Asahina! That'll be a lot of fun.
