Super Mario Sunshine Adventure

Episode 4: Chain Chomp's Bath

Removing a lavender colored blanket from her bag, the burgundy haired lady unfolded it and let it flutter in the air for a moment before delicately laying it down on the green grass beneath their feet. A grin playing on her lips, she smoothed out the blanket until it was completely flat on the ground and then sat her bag down upon it. Through with that, she sat down another bag, but this was a picnic basket. Done with that, she lowered herself onto the blanket and took off her heels. The other individuals that were with her joined her on the blanket, silent for now. Soon enough she would start to take out everything from the picnic basket and show everyone what she brought.

"Wow," chatted Sonic as he crossed his legs on the blanket, arms folded over his chest in a very impatient manner. "A dandy picnic in Pianta Village. Sounds delightful!"

Mario brought his attention to his blue companion, raising an eyebrow. "I can't tell if you're using sarcasm or not, Sonic. Your choice of words is rather…well…out of place."

"Oh? So now I can't say those things?" asked Sonic, a little vexed.

"That's not what I'm saying at all," replied Mario. "Sorry Charlie."

Sonic huffed and looked away from him.

"Uh, anyway, what did you bring to eat, Pauline?" asked Silver, looking very eager to get his grub on. "I so hope that it's something scrumptious! I am SO famished right now! My stomach has been complaining all day!"

Blaze viewed him oddly. "Didn't you have breakfast?"

Stunned that the purple feline was actually speaking to him, the hedgehog from the future looked at her and then couldn't hold back his smile. He fiddled around with his fingers and lowered his gaze, all of a sudden shy. "Um…no. I didn't, Blaze. Um…didn't have time, I guess. Heh…"

"Breakfast is the most important meal of the day…" commented Blaze, her tone holding seriousness.

"Serving it up Gary's way!" blurted Sonic, chortling right afterwards.

The blue hedgehog received weird looks from everyone and he threw up his gloved hands, rolling his green eyes. "Oh, come on! That rhymed!"

"It didn't make sense, hedgehog…" stated the plumber. "Where did you even get that from?"

"I would like to know the same thing…" trailed FLUDD, sounding curious.

Pauline huffed loudly to grab their attention, removing the food from the picnic basket and placing it upon the blanket. "Enough about that! Let's just start eating! I'm hungry!"

Everyone instantly closed their mouths as the burgundy haired woman took out some sandwiches of various kinds, bags of chips, fruits, veggies, and other things that looked totally delicious. Once that was over, the quintet immediately started devouring the food that was there, enjoying their quaint little picnic. The idea had been Pauline's.

Anyway, when they were done stuffing their mouths with food, the five heroes cleaned up their mess and started walking along the bridge, heading to Pianta Village to see what was up this time, wanting to get their hands on the next Shine Sprite.

As they wended, Silver couldn't help but glance at Blaze several times, wondering what was going on through her mind. Was she still mad at him? How could she stay mad at him? Silver was very bewildered and he wasn't sure what to think. The hedgehog wanted to be cozy with her again and he wished that she would just look at him and give him one of her beautiful smiles. Yes, the hedgehog from the future thought that the cat's smiles were absolutely breathtaking. He never told her that though. Why? Well, simply because he thought that he would look silly conveying that kind of information to her.

"Blaze…?" Silver spoke, hesitant.

Blaze turned her head to look at him as they walked. "What is it, Silver?"

"Are you…still mad at me?"

"…no."

Silver's eyes got massive and he almost tripped over his own feet. The male got a hold of himself and repeated her words in his mind, smiling uncontrollably. She wasn't mad at him anymore! Now he could get cozy with her again! Without contemplating on it, Silver threw his arms around the purple feline and pulled her close to him, nuzzling her cheek in a very affectionate manner. Blaze's face turned a crimson color, but she didn't pull away from him.

"Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!" Pauline cooed, clasping her hands in front of her as she witnessed this. "They're so CUTE together! AWWW!"

Sonic smirked at the two. "Before you know it, the two of them are going to be married with five kidlets running around!"

"HEY!" Silver was embarrassed now as he let go of his girlfriend and shook a fist at the blue hedgehog. "That is NOT going to happen any time soon!"

Sonic wagged a finger at him. "You didn't deny it though! Ha ha!"

"Can we cease this unneeded conversation?" questioned Blaze, an annoyed expression decorating her face.

Sonic rolled his green eyes, but agreed to drop the discussion as they finally reached the end of the wooden bridge. As soon as they did, one of the male Piantas rushed over to them.

"Hey, you five! We've got another problem over here!" yelled the Pianta, waving his hands in the air. "This thing's bigger than all those pups put together!"

"Mama mia…" trailed Mario, not liking the sound of that.

"When it's chained up there's no problem, of course, but…"

Pauline took a step forward. "But what?"

"When that thing's loose, we're in a heap of trouble. Oh, yes! That beast's owner always has burnt hands. It's pitiful…" Then the Pianta rambled on to himself, stalking away and making wild hand gestures.

"I have a feeling that we'll be dealing with a Chain Chomp this time," said Mario as he walked over to a wooden sign with some words scribbled on it.

Silver was right beside the red hero. "Wait, I thought we dealt with those Chain Chomps already?"

"Those were Chain Chomplets," answered Pauline, putting her hands on her hips as she looked at the hedgehog. "They were puppies, babies. We might be dealing with an actual grown Chain Chomp this time."

"That doesn't sound like fun…" commented Sonic, tapping his foot on the grassy ground.

Blaze breathed out a sigh. "I hope this won't be difficult."

"HEY!"

Startled, everyone put their attention on Silver who was frantically pointing at the wooden sign Mario had been peering at. There was a wild grin spread across the hedgehog's face and his eyes were bright with jovialness. "Look, guys! Pianta Hot Spring! It's open! Refresh body and spirit with a dip!"

"That's nice and all, Silver, but-"

"I'm the one who should be steamed!" That red Pianta woman from before screamed in a very choleric fashion as she jumped up and down in a huge fit. She was howling at a flaming red Chain Chomp that was spiked to the ground. "Bad Chain Chomp!"

Instantly, Sonic zoomed over to the female Pianta and eyed the Chain Chomp incredulously. "Everything okay over here?" he asked her, wanting to help out.

The woman huffed, aggravated. "This Chain Chomp is getting on my nerves! Oh! Maybe I should head over to the hot spring to calm myself…"

"That sounds like a good idea…hey!" Sonic snapped his fingers, motioning for his comrades to come over. "I have an idea!"

As the blue hedgehog said this, the red Pianta was already making her way to the hot spring to calm herself. She was muttering nasty things under her breath as she did. While that was happening, Mario, Pauline, Silver, and Blaze joined the blue hedgehog next to the giant Chain Chomp.

"Holy macaroni with extra cheese and bread on the side!" yowled Silver as he gazed up at the massive Chain Chomp. "That is one big Chain Chomp! It's nothing compared to the little ones we dealt with already!"

"Wow…" Blaze was just gazing at the thing, unable to move.

Pauline and Mario were not affected since they have seen a Chain Chomp before. "Well," said Mario, taking off his red cap and fanning himself with it because of the heat. "What was your idea, Sonic?"

"I want to help this lady out!" Sonic jabbed a thumb at the retreating Pianta woman. "We have to do something about her Chain Chomp, cool it down with something. I was thinking that we could take it to the hot spring!"

"Hold it right there!" exclaimed Silver, thrusting out a palm in the speedster's direction. "How are we going to move that thing to the hot spring? Don't expect me to try and move it! It looks like it would resist!"

Sonic snorted. "You could give it a try, Sil!"

"I don't wanna!" Silver whined.

Blaze grabbed his shoulder. "Silver, try!"

"Fine…anything for you, Blaze…!" Pouting, Silver folded his arms like an immature child who couldn't get dessert before dinner. "You have to put water on it first. I'm not doing anything with that Chain Chomp while it's heated!"

"Well, why don't we use those conveniently placed barrels of water over to the side to dowse the Chain Chomp with water?" suggested Mario as he pointed a gloved finger at three barrels that mysteriously appeared on the grass where they were standing.

The gang nodded and Pauline, Blaze, and Mario picked up a barrel each. Mario was the first one to throw his barrel of water at the Chain Chomp and the barrel immediately busted open and water sprayed all over the aggressive Chain Chomp. Instantly, the Chain Chomp returned to its black color, calming down.

"Now, Silver!" Sonic yapped.

"I'm on it, I'm on it. Sheesh!" Silver raised his hands and summoned his telekinesis. A light bluish light appeared around him and the Chain Chomp and the hedgehog tried to move the thing.

As soon as Silver grabbed a hold of the thing, the Chain Chomp began to struggle a little, snapping its sharp teeth in the air and looking around with its big eyes, unable to fathom what was occurring. Silver struggled with it for a moment.

Suddenly, the Chain Chomp flared up again and returned to that red color. It growled viciously and managed to spin around in Silver's telekinetic grip. A gasp came out of Silver's mouth as the Chain Chomp barked and headed straight for them!

"EEEK!" Pauline dived out of the way.

"WHOA!" Sonic dashed away.

"MAMA MIA!" Mario scrambled like scrambled eggs.

"AH!" Blaze spun out of the way.

"They seem to go mad with rage when they overheat!" cried FLUDD.

Poor Silver was left to get trampled over by the Chain Chomp. Silver yelped loudly and just laid there on the ground, groaning as the Chain Chomp bounded away from the quintet of heroes.

"Silver!" Blaze was at his side in seconds. "Silver, are you alright?"

Silver was seeing stars. "Blah…ha…ha…" He was totally out of it by now.

"Yo! Is he okay?" Sonic queried, speeding over to the two of them and gazing at Silver in worriment.

Mario was there too and so was Pauline. Both of them looked worried, but didn't say anything right away.

"He was knocked silly…" Blaze sighed, shaking her head.

"So? What are supposed to do now?" asked Sonic, pursing his lips and frowning.

"Looks like we have to pull the Chain Chomp by the tail, er, chain," responded Mario, sighing dramatically afterwards. "It's the only way."

Pauline started nodding her head. "Well, you guys can go do that. I'm staying here with Blaze to make sure Silver's okay. I'm worried about him."

"Wait, so just me and Mario then?!" Sonic blared.

"Yes…"

"Fiiiiiiineeeeuuuugggghhh!"

Pauline simpered at the blue hedgehog and at the red plumber before going back to tending to Silver with the help of Blaze the Cat.

Anyway, Sonic and Mario headed out to look for the Chain Chomp. They easily found it. The thing was still red and was bouncing about along the paths, Piantas screaming and yelling for their lives as they fled from the creature. The Chain Chomp had its mouth open, revealing its large and sharp teeth.

"Okay! So, I pull and you water it, mkay?" Sonic decided instantly.

Mario rolled his eyes. "Geez Louise! So demanding!"

Sonic only chuckled at his friend as Mario used FLUDD to spray the wandering Chain Chomp. Right after he did, the Chain Chomp calmed down and turned back to its normal color. Sonic grabbed its chain and rapidly took off. Since the Chain Chomp was so massive and ridiculously heavy, Sonic wasn't able to go his fastest as he pulled it to the hot spring. As the hedgehog pulled, Mario continuously sprayed the Chain Chomp to keep it from overheating.

When they reached the hot spring, Sonic pulled the creature into the round tub of water and the Chain Chomp released a whine of satisfaction as it closed its eyes and was sent into a slumber. In addition to that, it turned a golden color and a Shine Sprite floated up into the air above its head.

"Alright!" Sonic cheered, giving Mario a high five.

"Yes!" Mario climbed on top of the Chain Chomp and grabbed the Shine Sprite with both hands.
