"Tezz, I-"
Tezz wasn't in his lab like every morning. She needed to talk to him, it was an emergency. He could understand her. Where was he?
"Agura? You are lucky I'm still here."
"Why?"
The tall Russian was dressed in leather and his hair was not combed. It meant he was probably heading to Fearess to see his family. Wolves were...temperamental against strangers. Very temperamental. And dangerous.
Agura wrapped her arms around his neck, apologizing for what she had said two months ago. It had been mean and stupid. Worst, Tezz had been so nice and she had rejected him with cold eyes.
"I didn't meant what I said, okay?"
"I understand that. Listen, I might be late for my reunion so I have to go. And I must hurry."
She let go and she followed him. As he was about to climb in his car, she grabbed his arm.
"Please, bring me with you..."
Her eyes were empty. Her mind was dead. She saw light and darkness, flying all around her at the same damn time. She wanted to ask where she was, but she just couldn't.
"Sage!"
"Sage, answer me!"
Two voices... no four voices. Six voices? Eight, maybe. She didn't know! How could she know anyway? A sob, shout. Where was she, again? She didn't remember. The darkness felt so good. So peaceful.
"How is she?"
"How are they?"
"They won't survive so easily. If they do, it's a miracle of science."
Won't survive? What did it meant? What happened before that? Oh yes.
"What is he doing here?" Vert asked.
"I wanted him here, Vert."
Sol took another sip of his drink, a malicious smile creeping on his face.
"Actually, we were talking."
"About what?"
"The children, Vert. Who shall be considered their biological father, and who will not."
Sol posed his glass on the table. The way he spoke felt mean and malicious. Sage crossed her legs. This was awkward. Too awkward. Who knew what Sol or Vert could do? To confirm it, Vert grabbed Sol and pulled him off his chair.
"You better shut up. I'm their father, got it?" Vert paused to breath."Don't put anything in Sage's mind, psycho."
Sol nodded darkly. Vert was serious. Though Sage's mentor had agreed, Sol cleared his throat as he put the glass in the dishwasher.
"What will you do when you'll die?" He asked.
"What?"
"When you'll die before they are adults?"
Sage stood up.
"Sol, stop, please. Vert knows what will happen."
"Tell me, Crimson One, when your children will see an old man as their father, how will they react?"
Vert pushed Sol on the nearby wall. He was so dead... again! Sage was about to stop them when she stopped in her track. She couldn't breathe, she couldn't see or hear. She felt pain, deep inside her. She felt like she was suffering, but twice the strength of a cramp. Sage grabbed her stomach and fell on the floor. Blood climb up her mouth.
"You're saying they won't live?"
Vert couldn't believe it. He always thought he would die before Sage and her children, leaving them in jeopardy to Sol. Though when he drank the energy drink Sage offered to the team (except Tezz for an unknown reason) he felt like he was living, but better again. What did Sage do? THAT WASN'T IMPORTANT! Sage was probably going to die.
"The chances will grow if we have a premature donator. Do you know a premature that won't mind needles, public places, or us?"
Prematures hated public places, noise, doctors, therapists, hospitals, schools or social situation. They were frightened by the idea.
"And somebody from Sage's family could also give. The matter or anti-matter won't be an excuse. If you could just call... Krytus, to save her life?"
Vert wanted to laugh at this idea. Why would Krytus or Kytren come here? A knock at the door, woke him up. Sage's parents were there. Krystal was crying and Sargon was about to kill the doctors. Krytus was behind them. He was holding several papers and booklets.
"What can we do to save them?" Sargon asked.
"Krytus can give some of his anti-matter to Sage. Somebody can save the children by giving premature blood."
Krytus looked at his parents and called Kytren, promising he won't let the doctors do anything to him. Kytren was like all the prematures; shy, antisocial and for a reason unknown, was an excellent musician.
"He's coming. For the kids, not for any of you."
Krytus held out his arm.
"What is he doing?" Kyburi asked.
"Miss, please, don't stress." Desmond held out the tickets. He was her co-producer`a very special and strange Blue Sentient with a charisma very original. Krytus didn't really appreciate him. He found him very annoying, and since Kyburi's pregnancy, he was acting a bit... like a weirdo. More than usual.
"Did you call him?" Desmond asked.
"Yes, I fucking did!"
Kyburi grabbed his bowl of french fries and started eating them. She was always hungry! She even ate what she hated eating! She went to a party and ate whatever was greasy, sweet or salty. She even woke Krytus at three in the morning for a goddamn burger and fries! She was going crazy and they had to move to their new house and the last scene place, which meant eight hours of sitting in a train. She bought chips, candies and everything. Krytus insisted to go the hospital and get what they needed if she ever had to give birth. Desmond had INSISTED too and called his cousin, who was a midwife.
When her phone rang, she yelled.
"WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU?"
The driver seemed annoyed by her yelling so loud. Dogs barked, there was people looking near them. They noticed the big belly and understood that they shouldn't be arguing now. Desmond was embarrassed.
"You better get your fat ass over here before I-"
Kyburi stopped talking, listened and then barked more and more orders.
"I don't care about Sage's condition! I am going with or without you! LAST. FUCKING. CHANCE!"
She hung up and started crying. She was hungry, tired and just wanted all this over. Desmond gently rubbed her back to comfort her. He could understand how she felt, surprisingly.
"He knows how important it is to you. Don't worry, he will come."
Korosivash wasn't sure. Was she excited or terrified? Maybe both. The birth was coming soon. Sage was dangling above death. Borealis had been very secretive and wasn't at his apartment anymore. At the reunion, he remained sit and his clothes looked very large. What was he hiding?
"Babe, can you tell me how it's going to work? The window won't move away."
Karmakarys had never been this stressed before! He was moving left to right, verifying the cribs all over again. Paying the bills. Drinking coffee like a crazy man and making sure the bag was at a ready place. Korosivash found this very funny. What kind of father was he going to be? Was he going to be comfortable with raising a Blue child? She hoped so.
"Borealis?"
She ran to the front door and opened it before her brother could knock. She hugged him tightly and pushed him in. He sat on the couch and looked very uncomfortable.
"I'm sorry to be here unannounced." He said. "I have something important to tell you."
Korosivash laughed. "I don't mind you being attracted to the same gender."
It had been a shock when Sage and Sol told her this when they were younger. Now, she found this very amusing. A man who could understand you! So rare! And she always wanted him to be with Desmond.
"I am in a relationship." He said.
"Wonderful! Who's the lucky guy?"
"Kyrosys.."
Karmakarys, who was listening, coughed his coffee. Korosivash looked surprised. She thought Sage and Sol broke their relationship. And Kyrosys killed him in cold blood.
"And I am... pregnant."
"WHAT? IT'S IMPOSSIBLE!"
Karmakarys grabbed his brother-in-law by the shoulders. He inspected him and, yep, he was pregnant. He would get the children by caeseran. Borealis sighed when Karmakarys when let him go. Korosivash was surprised but knowing her children will have biological cousins made her too glad. She hugged her brother.
Spinner, Stanford, AJ and Sherman sat at the table of Zeke. The younger Cortez was analyzing the substance Sage made them drink. They knew something had been wrong with it. As Zoom came back with the drinks, Sherman gasped at gagged. He wanted to vomit, so disgusting and inhumane what they drank was coming back.
"What?"
"Sage just played with life and death."
