Chapter 34: Maybe

Cassidy's POV:

It was now late in March and my worry has begun to increase. Ellie and Peter were hardly ever around and when they were they completely avoided us at all costs. It was Friday night and we were all getting ready to go home for Easter break while simultaneously picking out dresses for Alice and Franks wedding on Sunday.

"Don't wear black Marlene," I told her as she held up a dress. "It's a wedding not a funeral."

"So I should wear white?" she asked picking up a different dress in white.

"No," Lily said shaking her head. "Then you'll upstage Alice. Where this." Lily handed Marlene a pale blue sundress. It was supposed to be close to 60 degrees in Cambridge where the wedding was going to be held which was unusually warm for this time of year.

"What are you two wearing?" Marlene asked. Lily held up a navy blue dress with white polka dots and white sandals.

"Cute," Marlene and I both commented.

"What about you Cassidy," Lily said placing the dress and sandals into her trunk.

"Mines at home," I said heading into the bathroom to gather my things.

"Well we'll see it on Sunday," Marlene shrugged as she continued to pack.

"What will we be seeing on Sunday?" a voice said from the door. We all wiped around and froze when we saw Ellie standing in the doorway. She hadn't really spoken to any of us in a while so we were all shocked. I was the first one to regain my cool.

"Nothing of your concern," I said as I packed my toiletries away in my trunk.

"Shame," Ellie said smiling she went into her cupboard and pulled out a very red dress and black heels.

"Isn't it a bit late to be dressing up," Marlene asked.

"If you must know I have an…appointment with someone later," she said heading towards the loo. "Have to look my best."

"Good luck with that," Lily mumbled under her breath.

"What was that Lily," Ellie called over her shoulder.

"Just asking who you were seeing," Lily quickly covered.

"Slytherin boy," she called back. "Severus Snape, you know him right Lily. He said you two were great friends, but you had a bit of a falling out a few years ago."

"Falling out isn't the right term," Lily said her green eyes cold and hard. "More like I helped him and he threw me under the bus."

"Shame," she said once more before shutting the door. As soon as we heard the shower go on the Lily Evans firework display went off.

"The nerve of that girl!" she exclaimed. "How dare she use Severus like that? First she uses him to get at your brother and now she's trying to get under my skin! I can't believe-"

"Don't you see Lily," I said grabbing hold of her shoulders. "She's trying to get the best of you. Don't let that happen! You are better than her, prove it and don't act bothered by it."

"Cassidy's right Lil's," Marlene commented. "She's trying to isolate you. Don't you understand? You're her current target. She's trying to make you mad and upset. She wants you to crack and have someone dragging you off to the loony bin. Prove to her you're better than that. Okay?"

"Okay," Lily said nodding her head and wiping her face. "Sorry, she just makes me so furious!"

"We know Lily," I said capturing her in a hug. "It'll be okay. Go find James and take a walk or something."

She nodded and closed her trunk. "Okay, I'll be back. See you guys at dinner." She slipped on her shoes and left the room.

"Poor girl," I said shaking my head.

"You think she's actually hooking up with Snape?" Marlene asked closing her trunk and putting it at the base of her bed.

"Doubt it," I said doing the same. "Like I said she's just doing it to get under Lily's skin. It's probably some Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw."

"Your right," Marlene said. "Come with me and we'll find Remus and Sirius. We can hang in their room until dinner."

"Okay," I said lacing up my converse. "Let's go."

The next morning we dressed and made our way to the Great Hall for a small breakfast before heading down to Hogsmeade station. It was unseasonably warm so I took off my flannel shirt and wrapped it around my waist leaving me in a white t-shirt and jeans with black converse on my feet.

"Why has it been warm as of lately?" Marlene asked as we settled into a compartment.

"Global warming," I said not missing a beat. "Soon we'll be seeing polar bears outside our bedroom window."

Marlene's eyes widen in fear as she turned to Remus. "Is that true?"

"No Marlene," Lily said hitting my shoulder. "She's kidding."

"Sorry Marlene," I giggled my body still shaking from laughter. "You're just so gullible sometimes!"

"I hate you," she huffed folding her arms across her chest.

"You love me," I stated opening my book rolling my eyes. We all settled into a comfortable silence for the time being. Lily, James, and Remus eventually had to head to a quick prefects meeting before lunch but they were back within half an hour.

"So is everyone meeting at the Potters before the wedding tomorrow?" I asked as the train was pulling up to the platform.

"Yeah," Lily said. "We're getting ready at home and then meeting there."

"Great," I smiled packing my book into my bag. "It's gonna be great tomorrow. I can't wait!" We all said our good-byes and found our luggage then made our way to our people.

"Hi Grace," I greeting her after we made our way through the crowd of people.

"Hello sweetheart," she smiled. "Have you been staying out of trouble?"

"I guess you could say that," I smiled cheekily. She laughed and kissed my cheek we chatted for a few more minutes before we all floo'd home.

"You all go and unpack I'll start making dinner," Grace told us as we appeared in the living room.

"Where's dad?" I heard James asked as I began to make my way upstairs.

"Finishing a few things at the office," Grace replied. "Should be home soon." I opened the door to my room and threw my things on the floor my by door and then plopped on my bed letting out a large sigh at the peace I was currently enduring. That peace was broken when I heard a noise coming from my bathroom. I shot up off my bed and looked over at the closed door. I grabbed my wand out of my bag quietly and made my way towards the bathroom door.

Suddenly the door knob began to turn and I tightened the grip on my wand. The door opened and I yelled a curse at the offending person. The curse missed and they screamed then I screamed and we both fell to the floor.

"Bloody hell Cassidy! Did you want me in the hospital again?" my brother's familiar voice shouted.

"Spencer!?" I exclaimed. "What on earth are you doing hiding in a girls bathroom?! That's creepy and stalkerish!"

"I was waiting for you to get home and I had to use the loo! What's so stalkerish about that?" he asked defensively.

"Well leaving a note or something would have certainly helped," I mumbled throwing my wand onto my bed. I looked back at my brother and smiled.

"Let's try this again ok?" I asked. He laughed and nodded. "You sit on the bed and I'll go outside."

"Got it boss," he winked. I grabbed my things and took them outside my room and closed the door. I waited a few seconds before opening the door again and saw my brother waiting patiently on the bed.

"Spencer!" I exclaimed in fake surprise. "What on earth are you doing here!?"

"Cute Cassidy," he smiled. "Really you should go into the acting business."

"Tell me about it," I joked tossing my hair over my shoulder. "How are you feeling?"

"Fine," he said. "Great actually."

"No Spencer," I seriously. "How are you feeling? You were in the hospital for over a month and this is the first time we are having a conversation in a while. How are you feeling?"

"Cassidy I am fine," he assured me. "Honestly, I couldn't be better."

"Ok," I said. "If you're positive."

"I've never been so sure about something in my life," he told me.

"Good," I smiled. "I missed you big brother." I wrapped my arms around his torso and hugged him close to me. We stayed like this for a while.

"Well," he said pulling away. "I better go say hi to the guys. Do I need to give Black the mean big brother speech?"

"No you don't," I said rolling my eyes. "There isn't really a me and Sirius going on at the moment."

"But you want there to be," he pointed out.

"Do not," I scoffed.

"Do too,"

"Do not!"

"Do too!"

"Just go Spencer," I finally exclaimed point at the door. He winked and left the room. I chortled to myself and began to unpack my things smiling stupidly to myself. Maybe Spencer was right. Maybe I did want there to be a me and Sirius. Maybe I'm finally ready to put everything behind me and be with the man I love.

Maybe….

So it wasn't a very intense or climactic chapter but it was something. Like I said chapter 35 will be a favorite if you know what I mean! Have a fabulous rest of your evening!
