DAY TWO ; 2:25 P.M.
He saw The Other just seconds before the other saw him. It should have given him an advantage, but The Other was prepared, and The Other shot at him without hesitation.
He threw himself to the side violently, rolling and skidding through bushes and even though he felt like he should be looking impeccable, he should look As Good As He Was Important, Which Was Very, he preferred thorns to bullets. The Other was still advancing, and he lifted the gun. The Other had, somehow, just managed to have a faster reaction time. But that didn't mean that he couldn't put a bullet in The Other's kneecap right now.
It meant that. He missed. So he shot again, and he missed again, but on the final shot he managed to catch The Other in the shoulder. The Other swore loudly, their voice higher-pitched than he'd thought, because The Other had short shaved hair and The Other had the Uzi.
But it slowed them down.
Syo's time bombs, his fingers fumbled a little but he set one up and he set it to a small time and then he ran. He had to make sure that he would run into a danger zone, because if he did then it would be Game Over. He heard the explosion behind him and he didn't know if The Other was dead or if he'd been caught at all, but he set another one just in case not.
He ran a bit more, and then tripped over nothing and his chin hit the ground. He bit down hard on his tongue and tasted blood, his teeth jarring and the tip of his tongue severed from the rest. He spit it out, and then he spit again to try and get rid of the taste of blood. He didn't know how many left. The other explosion went off.
He wiped off his mouth with his hand, blood smearing the dirt and grime on his fingers. He needed to wash his hands. He was dirty. He was dirty. He wasn't hurt, but he didn't look as good as he should, and that was almost worse. If he was hurt, he'd have an excuse.
He picked himself up and he kept running. He stopped when he found shelter, and he huddled behind a tree and he tried to put his mind back together. He tried to remember who was dead and who was alive – he had come to the decision that Naegi was, in fact, dead, and that was the most he was certain of – and he tried to remember how he was going to get back to how he should be when he got out of here and he tried to remember how he was supposed to win.
"My name is Byakuya Togami," he said, and those words managed to give him more strength than anything. Because, really, if Byakuya Togami couldn't do it, who could? "My name is Byakuya Togami. MynameisByakuyaTogamiByakuyaTogamiByakuyaTogami-"
3 STUDENTS REMAINING
Fun fact, the only reason this little plotline exists is because back when Togami was trying to remember who was dead I had him 'not remember if Naegi was dead or not' and I totally forgot that he totally walked right past Naegi's dead body. So. I decided to just run with it, really.
